    Iga also idolized Rafa and you can see pieces of his FH in hers. But regarding Sabalenka, she can sort of get away with her technique if she can dictate the point early. Her style is to attack first. Coco, on the other hand, is perfectly happy to chase down balls and extend points. She'd be a better counterpuncher if she didn't need such a long runway for her FH.

    I think you're missing something about most women's hip and arm anatomy that causes the swing to go behind; hence the name "WTA forehand."

      Ahem Emma Navarro has an atp forehand?

      @@Miguel.Garcia Probably doesn't have as wide of hips, same with Sabalenka. This has been discussed before, I'm not making it up lol

      "Men generally having greater upper body strength, allowing them to generate power through a more forceful arm action, while women tend to rely on more body rotation and leverage to hit their forehands due to their different muscle distribution and center of gravity"

    • @orangecoolius
      @orangecoolius День тому +1

      @@Miguel.Garcia It's worth noting some men have a WTA style forehand, therefore rely more on rotation than shoulder/arm strength.

      Fair point, and I think it holds merit. However, some women have demonstrated that this doesn't always need to be the case

    It is power vs control. Why should it be hard to shorten the swing path? Players do it all the time especially on return.

    Excellent video. Coco probably developed her forehand swing path from when she started playing tennis as a little girl. Too bad her Dad or any other coach didn’t catch this before it became ingrained in her muscle memory.

      Thanks. I would argue most pro players fail to evolve their strokes away from their junior quirks/habits. The very best are always evolving their strokes between the ages of 18-24 and the end result is very mature adult strokes. At 20 years of age, she still could do it, but will she!

    Sloane Stephens is one of my favorite players but her swing is huge too. Sometimes her racket head is so far behind her body, it hard to believe. It may not sound like much but if the racket head goes 2 feet farther back, you also have to recover those 2 feet coming forward so in total your racket head is moving 4 feet more than someone with a compact swing. That's a lot of extra movement.

      She is so smooth as well, but somehow in the most critical junctures of a match she typically falters. Mental or stroke mechanics breaking down, maybe both! 🤷‍♂️

    Sounds familiar. I am not surprised that you despite both next gen forehand and long takebacks.
    Well, they both face severe problems.
    So much that Coco already won a Major title, and Aryna finished this year as #1.
    My wife is a huge Coco fan, so I am to watch all of her matches. Many of her forehand goofs (If not most) happen when she does have enough time.
    And all of them are more than capable of returning serves, often enough with full swings on first serves.
    So yes, Coco does not have the best forehand imaginable, but what actually held her back this year was her second serve.
    And Aryna's forehand is even faster than any men's shot. Saw some numbers recently.

    Good video. To your point about Aryna. Her bigger swing is more evident when changing directions close to the baseline. She has a higher rate of mistakes in the net in that instance than players with more compact strokes.
    Coco is an exaggeration, and you know besides the inefficiency. She pushes the degrees of freedom of her shoulder. There had to be overcompensation in developing some muscles in the back and shoulder to protect her joint. It can't feel natural or smooth.

    • @TK-Tennis
      @TK-Tennis  15 годин тому +1

      Good points. Aryna's offensive at all costs game style may be a result of her simply not being equipped to counter punch due to her strokes 🤷‍♂️

    Coco’s forehand and her serve are disasters. She has delusions of being the best player in the world. Even if she gets hot and Iga stays in bad form like the tour championships, she could never maintain a ranking. Coco is the only player out there who misses standing forehands by 12’ and double faults halfway up the net. Look at coco’s face when she hits a clunker; she has no idea why and is bewildered. Coco thinks her losses to Emma Navarro are bad losses. In actual fact, it looks like Navarro is the better player, simply because Navarro can keep the ball in play until Coco blows up. Coco and her parents need to find a coach who can build these sits. I don’t say re-build because Coco has never had a serve or forehand.

      It's sport, everyone can be put under a microscope, winning or not.
      And I'm sure that for Coco to reach that level she wasn't surrounded by people labeled as haters because some parts of her game need improvements.
