As someone with ADHD, you have done the impossible.
You manage to keep me focused on your tutorial without the needs
for my medication. Signs of a good teacher in my opinion.
Thank you bro. Subbed!
Sowatee yay! The screen shots should be a great help for you as well. Be sure to use them to follow along! There in the description. They make following along super easy for you to create everything in the tutorial
Oh man, same here! This is the first time I've seen a blender tutorial that's been this helpful for me. Usually I can follow along with tutorials w/o meds but it's very difficult and I have to watch the video over 2 or 3 times, but this was just fine.
🙏🏿🙏🏿
SAME LOL.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS. KEPT ME FOCUSED
Without getting too corny, I am so appreciative that people like you exist, in a world where money seems to be all that matters, and most people think their time is too good to waste on other people unless they're selling their advice, here you are helping people all over the world, to get their foot in the door of something that could change their lives. Credit where credit is due, you are a legend.
That intro almost made me cry, it's so well done and I needed it so much. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to do this and for absolutely free. I've been trying to get into blender more and more, especially now that 2.8 is out but all the other beginner tutorials that have been released so far, while really really good and useful, don't seem to shake the feeling, at least in my opinion, that you're still learning very specific stuff. With you, it seems like the other way around, we'll go from broad aspects like the interface, menus, testing lighting and such to the specific project that is the sword in the cave.
Again, thank you so much.

...
It made you cry?

@@jacknation1141 dont lie man, we all did ;(
For a min I thought I was going cray cray cuz I started to 😢 up a little on the intro lol . I think he just made me fall in love with CG animation 😍. I now know what I want to do in life.
Hey bro. Just want to let you know I appreciate the knowledge your putting out into the world. 🙏🏽
@@CGFastTrack Good Job dude, keep up the amazing work, just know its not being wasted.
Yes! Thank you. Its good just to watch people go through thier own thinking and approaches. I really appreciate your take on the blender beginner tutorial and the unique scene that it finishes on.
i agree we all appreciate you CG
I can honestly say I haven't skipped or fast forwarded through anything because you are SO succinct and direct. I appreciate the other tutorials and courses out there, but my ADHD brain can only handle so much slow rambling. Everything is simply explained, and you let us know in advance not to worry about certain things because we're just messing with things at the moment and will get to them later in depth. You also checked off everything for the screenshare!
-Display what keys you're pressing
-Circling *exactly* which tab to find (instead of us have to track your mouse or rewatch a few times to find it)
-Extra diagrams for hotkeys and explanations
-The entire blender interface visible
Thanks so much!
Thank you!! The way I feel too. The donut guy just tires me out with so many shortcuts and so much rambling I can't remember what my last step was.
Everytime he says "if you don't have a fast computer" I feel like he's talking to me
Definitely not talking to me. My rig is so powerful I won't outgrow it for 10 years. All I need now is some talent!

Oh my god, the screenshots. Thank you so much. It is so endlessly frustrating to have to go through tutorials pausing and replaying to find the right button to click. Why must all video related software only be taught through purely video tutorials????
emma watters you totally get it :)
@@CGFastTrack You are awesome
Alright, if comparisons are worth anything, here goes. Disclaimer this based on partial viewing. I haven't completed any tutorials yet, but the difference between yours and the now notorious "Donut" tutorial is that, while that one is great obviously, you seem to spend far more time into explaining what each individual function and step is doing, which is fantastic, whereas in the other case, you sort of get the feeling that you're just copying steps without really understanding the underlying concepts.
Thank you for this.
Ive been bouncing around blender tutorials in the past few weeks wanting to learn. This has to be the best I've found. I'm only half way through the first video but I've already learned so much more than all the rest combined. Straight forward, no random chat and off topics, (so far) no "do this step... but before you do that...", Just here's the information! this middle aged illustrator trying to expand his knowledge base is well and truly thankful.
SHIFT R to repeat last action
(I know that you know this, of course, and obviously you can't include every single thing in a tutorial, but if it helps anyone, once you've duplicated one of those cubes and raised it into position, SHIFT R will do the next one for you, and the next, ...)
Great content. Many Thanks for making this available.
Holy Cow ... The right time , the right place , the right moment to leave 3DS MAX once for good after 11 years wasted of my life .
I thought max was good for modeling, or is it the other stuff u don't like about max
Ya man I just made the jump from 3DS Max and Im loving it. It just feels more intuitive and the tutorials just make more sense. I think its cause the screen is less cluttered
yeah, it's not bloated with buggy UI nor does it take a decade to boot.
I left XSI Softimage (at last !) a week ago ;)

I've been learning Blender for the past 3 weeks but learnt only little. When I bumped into your tutorials in one day I learnt so much and you teach them into details where are the buttons and what they do. other people they just show you how to design things but knowing the buttons are more important.
"If you feel like you are a bit lost ... there is still a mountain in front of you, a long way to go. "
- best motivational speech ever
Bro, I just have to say thank you so much. I'm about 15 min into your first video and just the way you structure everything and explain it literally blows every other video out of the water. I have spent the last 3 days watching 101 blender videos trying to figure out how to start using this program and i have gotten nowhere. I even have a paid subscription service with online classes that I am using and they all pale in comparison. Thanks man!!!
I must have downloaded and uninstalled Blender at least a dozen times in the past week because I felt overwhelmed and frustrated when trying to follow tutorials. This is the first one that made sense to me. The end result wasn't perfect but it was fun to make and it gave me the confidence to keep trying. Thanks so much for making this :)
I am with you! I have tried the donut tutorial a few times, never really got in the groove (nothing against Blender Guru) but we all learn in different ways. Keep going and FYI if you are on reddit they have a good blender subreddit.
yep tried to draw a line on the cube....
I am an intermediate blender user, I'm watching your tutorial to see your eevee lighting workflow, and to be FRANK this is the best beginner tutorial i have seen so far, even a dummy can understand. When ever i see you doing an action am like, "you could have just used a shortcut key" but you refrained from it and used the buttons and this is great for those who are starting and can't memorize the shortcut keys in the beginning. Great job my man! I'm subscribing.
Jonah Arthur thanks for the kind words. It’s a tough thing leaving out short cuts from the get go but it’s much easier to get going with out them and getting up and running is the hardest part.
So first, I'm just going to say that this is the best tutorial I have ever seen. As somebody who has been a games developer for years and already familiar with models, this was a great tutorial that taught me how to use Blender, without waffling on about concepts I already know about.
So, you know at the end of the tutorial, where you said "hey, put an object inside each other"? Turns out that I accidentally CTRL+D'd the first pillar on top of itself, resulting in ALL of the boxes overlapping. It's kinda hilarious to just watch my pillars completely explode into a pile of junk on the floor (and of course, I even put the base boxes as active rigidbodies because... why not!).
Anyway - Onward to part 2!
You are like a God to me. I watched so many videos but no one explained like this! I am really grateful to you.
That intro showed me all I need to see. I can’t wait to learn how to use this program. The intro had realistic cloth physics, camera depth perception, lighting, reflective and Matt surfaces (the sword and boulders respectively) as well as water physics. Incredible! I feel like I’m watching a movie trailer. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I'm a film composer by trade of more than a decade. I desperately needed a hobby to get me out of the studio, and with a love for narrative, I of course wanted a way to tell new stories. Having scanned the web for some time looking for learning resources in hopes of overcoming the steep CG learning curve, I finally discovered this tutorial series. What a great balance of valuable information and fun. Bravo, bravo!!!
Awesome. I'm new to blender and thank you and others for the tutorials. Blender community is awesome!
Robby this was fantastic. You didn't go to fast. The use of graphics was phenomenal. The support materials were fantastic. I'm looking forward to where Blender Fast Track takes me.
This is so cool. Very nice explaining and nice calm voice to listen to.
I did the Blender Guru Donut and I felt so overwhelmed it made me not wanting to do Blender anymore so I stopped for weeks before trying again.
It feels like I can do these steps on my own afterwards without following along mechanically 1:1.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. You are a really good teacher.
We are now in version 3.2.1 Will I find a problem with this tutorial because the tutorial is kinda old
I was in my about to fall asleep, I watched this video on my mobile and I was like here we go again. I didn't sleep tonigt and it is worth it. thank you so much for this amazing video
Had no idea who you were, saw your Reddit post about this tutorial, now here I am happily following along. I want to thank you for making it all free as Blender was meant to be. I'll share this as much as possible as you definitely deserve more subs.
Right on!
I have started blender every year for the past 3 years only to quit after about 1 month due to a lack of motivation. I usually never really make it to the end of the tutorial but that intro..................... that motivated me enough to stay to the end As an Instructional Designer I can truly say that your method of engagement and instruction is excellent. Subscribed and hooked now.
You can do it! Taking advantage of the screen shots will make it much much easier as well. The trick is not try to follow along with the video, but rather watch the chapter, pause the video, open the screen shots and follow along with them. It makes it much much more effortless and intuitive!
I think this is the best tutorial so far on blender 2.8
I feel the same
I took up blender - Dropped it! After watching this - Took up the blender, my notebook, and pen to follow along! I just want to say thank you and for the amount of work you put in those screenshots. Very useful!!!
Great beginners tutorial. At the end when I started the simulation everything exploded, much more fun than having just the top bits drop.
thank you so much for creating this. I've been trying to learn Blender with other tutorials and they were either way too slow and going through every single button (which confused the heck out of me and was so boring I couldn't follow along) or they were way too advance and I couldn't keep up (also way confusing).
This is so clear and easy to follow along to. And breaking it up into chapters like that helps me process the information so much better and I feel engaged throughout the entire video even though it's long. And including the breaks makes me feel like I'm taking the perfect moment for a short break without feeling like I'm lost when I jump back into the video. So well done. Seriously this could be a class taught at a university. Huge thank you
The dislikes are the ones who gave up bro. Your helping people achieve wonders!! Thank you bro
i bought a 3d printer and start learning blender to model my prints. i am a total beginner, best tutorial i stumbled across so far. thank you, amazing work!

I think I speak for all of us when I say:
We fucking love you.
The best beginner's tutorial I have seen. Thanks and Congrats!
I have finally graduated after 3 days of trying to make my sad little donut and get into this stuff. Time will tell if I can train my old brain into learning a new trick. I should have started 3D when I was 15 not 36! I wish I had found this at the beginning of the pandemic, I haven't worked out on the road since then, Just sitting at home running the company from the desk. Could have put all that extra time to good use! I find the most awesome thing I have encountered so far in my short time in Blender is the awesome community. Very supportive bunch! Strong communities like this is what I gravitate to. Maybe I found myself a new home? Thank you so much for the work put in for us. Without people just like you many of us would get lost in time.

I have tried countless blender tutorials and this one is the best as it takes things slowly and at a good pace.
I've used Blender for the last ten or so years, I can do lots of stuff but I fall flat at lighting. Never managed to figure out how to get it right. Looking forward to learning what I can from you mate!
This.
I've been looking for someone with experience to ask how can u lock the object movement to certain points as he does in the video. Thank you.

Paul Seaton you will love the screen shots method! Here are some tips 1. Watch a chapter 2. Pause the video 3. Open the screen shots and follow along there 4. Repeat for next chapter! It’s a much easier method of learning vs standard tutorials
I usually don't comment on youtube... but this was a really good tutorial for the new blender 2.8 :)
Blender is getting better and more people are using it it has everything you need to do some wonderful art work I have the 2.09.1 and I ‘must getting my head around it so thanks for your videos
I already work with 3d, but I do not consider myself an advanced 3d artist. So thanks for this serie of tutorials, I already think I'll learn a lot from it!

Why do the tutorial intro feel like I'm watching a trailer for a movie xD
Because it's designed to get you excited about doing the tutorial. If it felt like a movie intro - it worked ;)

l have been learning blender for few months . l have seen many tutorials on youtube. there is always something missing in those tutorials that we dont undrstand. but u hav briefly explained every part of your vdeo. among all the vdeos l hav seen, l must say you hav made the perfect vdeos for the beginners. this vdeo is absolutely perfect. excellent work!!!
Why go to school when you have blessed me with this....
For the paper...
First off, these videos are above and beyond in the expansion of knowledge regarding blender for anyone starting out.
Also, another little trick I would add to ease duplication processes like the building of those columns is using Orthographic view. If you hold ALT + middle mouse button and drag in a direction, you can view the objects perfectly from the side, below or above. In this view, once you’ve selected the object for duplication, shift + D will duplicate and then holding CTRL while dragging will snap along the grid and it can only move along the plane instead of the directions you don’t want. This is faster and more precise than trying to angle your view in an optimal position to achieve the same thing or having to place the object after duplication and then move it using the move tool. Once you’re done in orthographic simply press middle mouse button and drag as if rotating your view and you’ll be back to normal.
I’ve found this ability useful in many situations and when working I’m frequently switching between the two views.
Thanks so much, Robby; this is great! I'm a beginner who was having a tough time trying to follow another Blender tutorial, but your clear instructions have made using Blender achievable for me. I will definitely be following along and taking your advice, and I look forward to your other video tutorials. Very well done!
Thank you for creating a step by step methods for noobs like me. Really appreciate it.
Just came here after a lot of other Blender Tutorial Videos, watched the first 3 minutes and im already impressed. Subscribed of course as well ;)
Amazing tutorial! An extra tip would be in the material panel. If you have a duplicated object but you want it to have different say color to it, but you have an image texture and you want the duplicated object to retain that texture, you can click on the little number in the name of the material. It will seperate the duplicated material from the original material, so you can change the material without changing the original objects material.
Hey.... My god this is what I want... Thank you... This is awesome.... I would pay you for this work... This is great!!
Hey Robby, great stuff! Finally some high end blender content from someone who knows what they're doing.
This tutorial was very much needed as many great Blender artist sorta forget about the you tuber and basically show you how great they are at creating their works, but they go so fast, don't give any tips or reasons why they did or do certain things. All you get is a beginning and a very quick end to a project that left you even more clueless than when you started watching it. Which in the end causes you to wonder if you'll ever be able to get the jest of Blender at all.
Thanks for taking the time to explain certain aspects of the workings of Blender. This at least gives interested Blender users a good crutch to begin learning the intricate road map of this awesome program.
Cant wait for the part 2 next Thursday!!
thankyou for all your help. I was quite fluent in blender during the first part of my Video Game Design and technologies course in 2019/20 but went to Autodesk 3ds Max and was taught on that software. But now I've been reacquainted with blender and it's wonderful to be able with your guidance to be able to model again. thanks again.
I'm not new to blender. But I subscribed anyways. You won't know what you don't know until you look for it.

One cool tip to make navigation easier if you don't have a mouse with MMB for some reason, without needing to go to the top right gizmos every time like at 11:38, enabling "Emulate 3-Button Mouse" in Preferences>Input will make it more intuitive and quicker. That way, you can hold Alt+LMB for rotate, Ctrl+LMB for zoom/dolly and Shift+LMB for Pan. This setting can also help if you don't want to use the buttons on your tablet stylus or if you don't have them to begin with.
But one change that shall happen due to this is loop selection which was Alt+LMB now shifts to double click LMB.
PS this channel might already become one of the go-to top quality channels for Blender and 3D in general! Instant like and sub :)
