Your work is excellent. I mean both your woodworking and the way you make your videos. You see a man is working, gives exact information one needs. Nothing is too lengthy or too fast, not possible to follow. Not too much talks and no stupid music. Thank you.
Thank You for showing how to build this. A recently bought a ShopSmith. Go ahead and laugh. I only have a small work area. This is just the right size I need. I enjoy all of your videos. I hope you don’t get discouraged and quit. I am waiting for your table saw build. I want to buy the plans as soon as you finish.
I came across this video by accident. sure am glad I did. I made the sled and I am really impressed. it was an easy, fun build that I will use all the time. many thanks for posting it.
That is such a good idea to sharpen a saw blade. I bought a few mini stones to sharpen my router bits once but never used them because I'm lazy. They'd work great and be easy too if I made that little jig for the table saw though. Thanks John.
Wish I had found this 2 months ago. Before I built a more complicated "simple" sled. I love the idea of using a single piece of solid timber and will be making one this weekend. Thanks for video, I'm aaway to look at your others.
Hi John Great idea and something that I am going to go and make today because I have a Festool CS-50 Table saw and it does not have a traditional 3/4" mitre slot. Instead it has two slots either side of the blade and the are not open ended so your jig provides a solution. I like your idea of putting a block over where the saw blade comes through, however I will make mine cover the blade completely plus add at least 3/4" above the blade's full cutting height. This Festool CS-50 has two cutting modes, a stationary blade which is the common method but also it can be a pull saw. For the pull saw you literally do that, there is a handle which incorporates the ON/OFF Switch so everything is to hand when operating in this mode. I also liked your Blade Sharpening Jig , an excellent video to start my Monday morning off with helps to make retirement worthwhile. Cheers
I have build a similar sled already but wasn't happy with the stability and precision. Your tip of assembling the sled in place while maintaining an even surface using the sliding pieces looks very much like it could be the solution to my problem! Thank you very much :-)
Lovely thing¡ I built my own but watching the yours I've noticed that simplicity is just great. Thank you for sharing your work. Cheers from Algarrobo, Valparaíso, Chile
Hey John, that's such a good idea. I'm new to using a table saw (for years I did without), and your videos are really helpful. I wish I'd seen this one earlier. Thanks from Down Under.
Thanks John! Wish I watched this video a week ago... I was cutting a bunch of 1/2" dowels to 3/4" long. The sled would have been excellent. Going to make my mini sled tomorrow.
I have been wanting to make one for cutting pen blanks. Thanks for show how you did that. I have to go back and look at that sharpening jig for the table saw blade. You keep making videos and I appreciate you work and time. Thanks John.
Completely Awesome Sled, Making one today ! Great Job. A little worried about your left hand acting like a featherboard. I hate safety trolls so please don't take it wrong. I actually nipped the top of 2 fingers that way when for absolutely no reason (new blade and stable wood) I had a piece bind just enough to kick the wood back just far enough for my hand to edge the blade. And I was not even applying pressure from the side but the instinct of jerking my hand away from the unexpected kick somehow sent my fingers close to the blade. I really enjoy your videos and have been watching them for years. Anyways, I made a solution because I hate slowing down and setting up the featherboard too! I call it my sidewinder. I cut a 45 on a 12" x 1 x 1 and superglued a silicone foot on the angle. There is a notch at the back like a push stick. A rare earth magnet holds it to the front of my saw. Just a thought I wanted to share.
Thanks for the video. I am just about done applying finish to my own. During set and testing I was very pleased with how well it worked. Probably a tool I will use alot in the future.
I made a sled similar to this one after viewing this and I absolutely love it! I was wondering why the runners are so long though? I made mine only a few inches longer than the sled base and it seems to work fine. I enjoy your videos and look forward to more of your projects.
Yet another gem for the 2do list. Never ceases to amaze me that some folk find cause to thumbs down the most non-controversial videos (of course, IMO). Must be the accent (eh)? ...
I have that exact same shirt.. first concert I went to when I was 16 I stopped in here because I seen you sharpening the blade I'm a sucker for getting extra life out of a blade I build guitars and just spent 140$ for a fret slots blade .023kerf from Stewmac so I will be using your sharpening technique thanks a ton my man
I love it! Been looking at all the sled videos online and they all seem huge! This is exactly what I need! Plan to start working on it tonight :) Thanks!
This was an awesome build video. I made a cross cut sled a couple of years ago. Eh ! It is okay,,, just ok, .. this video gives me hope.. to build two of this type, one small one larger. I like the way you utilize both miter slots. As well, they would store much easier hanging on the side of the table saw. I also like the fact that your build John, does not make you use up saw blade diameter, it sets flat on the actual saw table.
Seeing you move the fence over the miter slot at 3:50 reminded me of one time in woodshop when the teachers pencil somehow ended up in the slot and then he moved the fence over it to make a cut and started going crazy trying to figure out where his pencil went.
Elevator music!! Kidding. Nice sled, but the part i like the most has to be the fact that it came out of a single piece of wood. You could make a ton of these out of scraps. Heck, figure out the formula for the lightest/accuracy and it's essentially a disposable item, for various jigs and such.
Great instruction. I am unfortunately stuck with one of those Ryobi BT3000 table saws. I'm sure you know that these relics have no t-track in the table of the saw. In fact the table is actually in 3 or more parts which is a recipe for disaster when it comes to making square cuts period. I'm wondering if you could suggest some way to make a crosscut sled for one of these things. I have tried several different methods of building sleds for this saw but so far nothing has worked that will allow me to produce repeatable square crosscuts with this thing. Just wondering. Thanks for all the great content!
Great idea. If I had room for a table saw I would do this. I might even add one of those swivel type stop block levers. The kind that swivel out of the way before you cut.
nice build john. just curious about the sharpener you use on the video. did you make it? what type of sandpaper you use there and what grit? can it be store bought?
Hey John. A great little jig... I'll be making one. Quick Q... would you have been better off resawing that timber with your bandsaw in one cut rather than table saw in two?
Works great on the thin kerf "disposable" blades like the one I sharpened. Only takes about 5 minutes for a 24 tooth blade and the best part is that it can stay on the saw.
+John Heisz you ever thought of maybe making a groove to fit a small ruler or adhering measuring tape to the sled? I'm sure it would save some time since you made this sled so accurate to the blade and runners
I have to say I don't care if this is any good or not. I believe it will be fabulous. Anyone with a Smashing Pumpkins Zero t shirt is fine by me and worthy of a subscription. I will watch the rest of your video now. 👍👍👍👍
That is really cool 😎 , I myself have found that I to am always cutting little pieces to, the wife got me or us, the the little craftsman table saw, that will come in handy, thanks!

Hi John, love the simplicity of the blade sharpening. The sled is small and compact. Easy to handle. Greetings from South Africa.
That is such a good idea to sharpen a saw blade. I bought a few mini stones to sharpen my router bits once but never used them because I'm lazy. They'd work great and be easy too if I made that little jig for the table saw though. Thanks John.

Exactly what I need to do with my new, replacement table saw! Thanks for a sled so simple & easy to make.
As well as the small cross cut sled, you get a pretty cool sharpening jig thrown in at the beginning, nice! 👍👍
It is great to see a craftsman at work. Very impressed
I've just bought a cheap table saw and this is a great idea, I will be making one tomorrow! Thanks for the vid 👍
I have build a similar sled already but wasn't happy with the stability and precision.

So simple yet efficient. I will be making one of these for my portable table saw! Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the coolest ideas I've seen and have built my own version, crediting you for the inspiration.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks John! Wish I watched this video a week ago... I was cutting a bunch of 1/2" dowels to 3/4" long. The sled would have been excellent. Going to make my mini sled tomorrow.
Broke down an old pallet this week and there's one single hard maple slat... I think I just worked out what it's going to get used for!
Nice one John!
NICE I really like that neat and easy! Your videos are GREAT don’t give up on it. I watch them all ( for years).

I could see myself using this a lot in my shop. Thanks for sharing this with everyone!!
That mini sled looks really handy. I need to make one of those. Great job John.
I really like your design you get a handy sled with maximum cutting depth.
Nice simple but effective design. Thanks.
Very nice. Definitely better than a miter gage when using to cut small parts. Also, that blade guard is a great idea. Nice work.
i love these mini sleds, have seen a few. They are great because you get the full height of the blade if you need it , but also for small things
I love this little sled. And that shirt! I had that same shirt back in 97!
Thanks for the video. I am just about done applying finish to my own. During set and testing I was very pleased with how well it worked. Probably a tool I will use alot in the future.
That's great John. I'm going to make one today. Thanks for sharing!

This small sled is a great idea. I've been using mine a lot, ever since you made your first video on it. I use it way more than my larger sled.
Making my first cross cut sled this weekend. It will be this! Thanks so much.
I have a tendency to over-complicate things, and your videos are very sobering :-) Thanks for sharing this, you're awesome!
Great jig John! I made one each for my tablesaw and bandsaw and use them regularly, especially so on the bandsaw.
Nice and simple, and makes cutting small things so much safer. Great job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great sled. Easy and quick to make. Very useful and practical. Thanks John!
Loved the draw slide technique - simple and effective
Yet another gem for the 2do list. Never ceases to amaze me that some folk find cause to thumbs down the most non-controversial videos (of course, IMO). Must be the accent (eh)? ...
Awesome. Just read the article Thursday, was hoping for a build video. Love this channel - cheers!
Great video, you are a good teacher! As a newbie I need all the help I can get. Thank you so much.
Superb just what I need and like to see, just do it and explaining well and no messing around going on and on about other sh*t
Thankyou !
Great thing about this is that you get full depth of cut as well, unlike a larger sled. If you've only got 200-205mm TS, this is great.
Another video! Keep em coming I watch every one. Also It may sound weird but I'm a fan of your minimalist commentary and explanation
Nice sled. Thinking of making one this weekend for small dowels. Thanks.

My biggest concern was how to square it to the saw blade. You had a simple and accurate way to do it. I wouldn’t have ever thought of it.
Great vid - I've been looking at some sled designs and most are too big for the table top of my saw. Something like this could be perfect
10 years as a journeyman and I'm still fumbling with those stupid tiny factory sleds - got to smarten up and make one of these. Thanks for sharing
Love it. Great for small trim cuts.
Great stuff John thanks for sharing. I need to build a sled for my saw so I can cut my wood up for knife scales better
Seeing you move the fence over the miter slot at 3:50 reminded me of one time in woodshop when the teachers pencil somehow ended up in the slot and then he moved the fence over it to make a cut and started going crazy trying to figure out where his pencil went.
A very nice, convenient sled. Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Thanks for posting! I definitely plan on making one like this. Very simple. Love it.
Brilliant timing John... this is exactly what I am about to make to cut pen blanks on my table saw. (The more I use, the more I love it) Thank you.
Love it....going to make one tomorrow....i made a very simple larger sled today...
Elevator music!! Kidding.
Nice sled, but the part i like the most has to be the fact that it came out of a single piece of wood. You could make a ton of these out of scraps. Heck, figure out the formula for the lightest/accuracy and it's essentially a disposable item, for various jigs and such.
Great video for us beginners, John, thanks!
Simple and to the point. Thank you.
Great instruction. I am unfortunately stuck with one of those Ryobi BT3000 table saws. I'm sure you know that these relics have no t-track in the table of the saw. I built one last weekend thanks for sharing, I used it loads.
Great idea. If I had room for a table saw I would do this. I might even add one of those swivel type stop block levers. The kind that swivel out of the way before you cut.
John, I made one with Russian plywood, it works great. Thanks for the video, I'm new at this and your video helped me a lot.
Andre
nice build john. just curious about the sharpener you use on the video. did you make it? what type of sandpaper you use there and what grit? can it be store bought?
Great build for those small pieces. Good design
Just finished mine - a godsend in no mistake.
John, would you have plans for your modified table saw?? I am looking at upgrading my cheaper Skil Table Saw and yours looks great!! Thanks!!
Thanks. Good video, short but detailed enough and done well.
Interesting way of sharpening the saw. Like!
Hey John. A great little jig... I'll be making one. Quick Q... would you have been better off resawing that timber with your bandsaw in one cut rather than table saw in two?
Excellent video. Love the mini sled!
A simple but effective jig, thanks for sharing !
Liked and subbed.
I like your saw sharpening method, John. I don't have the knowhow to build a powered one like Matthias did.
Works great on the thin kerf "disposable" blades like the one I sharpened. Only takes about 5 minutes for a 24 tooth blade and the best part is that it can stay on the saw.
Exactly what I needed, thanks!
love it. small and handy, does the job well!
Thanks Paul!
+John Heisz you ever thought of maybe making a groove to fit a small ruler or adhering measuring tape to the sled? I'm sure it would save some time since you made this sled so accurate to the blade and runners
Nice idea & build
There's another project on my "to do" list now....Thanks John!
This is exactly what I need. I will make one today.
What are good indicators that it's time to sharpen a table saw blade?
Gracias maestro.saludos desde Mérida Yucatán México.
Very cool trick this for the sharpening blade
Beatifull work and video.
congratulations from Barranquilla Colombia
Cool, I like it! Will make one. My big shed is way to big so I use it very little.
Thanks John, brilliant as always.
Thanks John! Amazing how much I use the sled you designed. Blue ribbon design.
Love your Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt!
I have to say I don't care if this is any good or not. I believe it will be fabulous.
Anyone with a Smashing Pumpkins Zero t shirt is fine by me and worthy of a subscription.
I will watch the rest of your video now.
👍👍👍👍
Great video, what is your table saw model?
Very nice. I'll be making one of these very soon.
Great little jig! Thanks
very useful and easy to do! Thank you!
nice one john.like the blade sharpener.
Very,very good! 👍
This is 'Today's' Project. My wife wants some very small boxes and trying to cut the parts on the mitre saw are just too risky. Thanks John
Did I miss something. Where's the video for the sharpening jig? Thanks for all your videos. Found the sharpening video.
That is really cool 😎 , I myself have found that I to am always cutting little pieces to, the wife got me or us, the the little craftsman table saw, that will come in handy, thanks!
