Homesteading off the grid and on the mountain certainly has its challenges but there's no place we'd rather live. We restored the old camp and transformed it into a cozy home for ourselves, then we cleared more land, built a workshop and greenhouse and spent the late part of the winter starting seeds and now we're busy planting our first garden on the mountain. Little by little we're reaching our goals of having a self sufficient homestead.

Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

My dad got sent home by the doctors to die and going into remission he grew un health and lived 27 more years. My mom's in last words became overjoyed. At almost 102 she exclaimed look look He is so beautiful so beautiful. Remember our life or death isnt determined by circumstances. It aint over until God says its over and when that day comes if we are a child of God in joy and peace He will come to take us home.

Had 5 heart attacks 8 years ago. They are what they call widow makers. Going strong no damage to my heart. Doctor was thuorly amazed. I'm 58 now. Wife is 64 and waiting on results on biopsy. I'm scared more than i have ever been in my life. Your absolutely right. Life can change in a minute. God bless yall. Your videos are a great inspiration to us all. Take care and be safe.

Boy do I understand where you are coming from. I went through an emergency quintuple by-pass last August at 57 years of age. When you are confronted with your mortality your outlook on life can change in a flash. Take care and heal quickly Boss.

It is so good to see your video and to hear that you are back gaining ground every day. We never know what life is going to give us. I believe that it is better that way. When things come along we handle them better. When I was in the hospital for 15 days a year ago I remember very well the shots that they gave me in the stomach to ward off blood clots. Not Fun! ,but they did the job! I was in bad shape when they took me in, but I made it. I told my husband that the creator was not ready for me yet. That he still had work for me to do. Keeping him straight! (Just kidding because he is the love of my life.) As a person of faith when I say my prayers each morning I always ask for mercy and grace and wisdom. I also ask for safety and good health for my loved ones and friends. This life moves by so quickly and we need to give it our best and leave to God the rest. My faith has never let me down. The answer to my prayers may not always be yes, but I have found if it isn't there is always a reason why! Hearing the birds singing and seeing Frankie and Tildy( some of the wonderful creatures he gave fir our comfort is wonderful to see and hear. Hello from Pennsylvania! 😊 It's good to hear from you again. I've had my own private pain and health struggle so I haven't been on for a bit.
God definitely is on your side or you wouldn't be here. That's a lot to go through. I can say for myself that my life has been spared twice from prayers. My father prayed for me when I almost died from appendicitis at 8 and lots of people prayed for me after a motorcycle accident and severe concussion at 19 and now I'm almost 62. I'm grateful for all of those people praying for me. I find myself kinda stuck at the moment with shingles in my left eye and chronic pain from degenerative disc and joint disease. I think we all come to a time in our lives when our life flashes before us to what we've done in the past to what lies in our future or possibly what we need to change. I love my children and grandchildren and want to be here to enjoy them as long as God allows me. If you have a Bible look up PROVERBS 3:5,6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path. I have a favorite which is PSALMS 91. Sending continued prayers for you both.

I think Our Lord has made a mistake in the laws of life. He takes away our mobility when we get old so we cannot enjoy the things we have worked so hard for. I too have heart and lung issues. It sucks I know have an Oxygen unit portable but it’s not the same cant work or walk the same and it’s depressing but not as much as my hunting!! I feel like a child having my son and brother help me. I sure hope you do better I think that’s why I’m drawn you cabin posts and enjoy you all doing what I cant anymore.

With multiple pulmonary clots, it takes a strong person to survive. A friend of mine had clots in both lungs for about a week, before he finally went to the hospital. He was a BIG man, which they said helped him survive. About a year later, the same thing happened and that time he went to the hospital immediately. They inserted a Greenfield filter to prevent further pulmonary clots.
As a retired nurse, I know how quickly life can change when you least expect it. I'm pulling for you - just keep on getting healthy, take your time, don't push it. Stay safe. Best wishes.
