Got my acceptance letter on March 9th!!
This was my second time applying. I submitted two sketchbooks to Calarts. Started from Oct.1st. Finished in mid December.
Music: Try - by Patrick Brasca & Jay Chou
Have fun and stay happy!
oh my god! congrats on getting in ;____;!!! i remember meeting you at national portfolio day and its really uplifting knowing that you got accepted!
Hey just letting you know for your safety you might want to re-edit the first part where you cover your address, because it's really easy to pause before the box comes up and someone with bad intentions could have access to your location. Great Video though your drawings are really amazing, and if you want I can edit the first part more thoroughly for you.
Bad intentions like take away this magnificent sketch book? **pops partypopper**
Sunrise Sketch
I agree
Now you brought attention to that, everyones gonna start pausing there and looking at the address 😂
lol i bet shes been getting a lot of calls
there's a drawing of me in there!! :'^) so happy for you phoebe!!
the sketchbook and the music in the background makes me so motivated i cant explain the feeling this video gives me- great job youre a fantastic artist!!
I've been searching up accepted calarts sketchbooks, and been observing them. Calarts is my dreamschool. But I doubt I'll be able to go there. I don't live in america, I live in the philippines. It's a dream and it'll stay as one.ha, I don't think I shouldn't really take this seriously, tho. I'm only 12 years old. College is still far....
Oh, and nice sketchbook btw.
Bobby Chiu talks a lot about students in other countries wanting an art career! In fact, he interviewed Fawn Veerasunthorn from Thailand who's now at Pixar and Tuna Bora from Turkey who worked on the first Oscar-awarded VR film! Schoolism and Bobby's own youtube channel are great inspiration and information. you've got a huge advantage just by realizing your art dreams so early :)
wow. Thanks😊
Oh my we're very alike!! i am 12 too and i feel so discouraged about how expensive calsart is plus i dont think my art is good enough..
crazy fish Yeah...we're not that rich. So, even *if* my future works will be good enough to get to the school, I still don't think I'll get in...
Oh, and if you think your art is bad, then don't worry. You'll eventually improve. I don't think my works are the best, but I definitely saw a huge contrast with my old ones. It improved. So, yours eventually will too.
You should probably learn anatomy, colors, and basics in general. You should also try to draw things that aren't from your comfort zone.
I do all of those things some of the time. Not all the time, tho.
thanks!! i hope to see ur art more often just checked ur utube videos and yeah you're improving!!
omg Pheobe congratulations!!!! I'm really into your work. I know you will do so well in Calarts
Hey, I recognize your work from SVA's Drawing Tutorials Online, your art is amazing! Keep up the good work and congrats!
i look back at this sketchbook video whenever i need inspiration for character designs esp for variation in body types
you have some really fantastic work < 3
Real nice sketchbook! I've seen several here on youtube and yours for sure is one of the best! Very good job.
never tired to see your fantastic sketchbook.
WAIT arn't you from SVA NYU drawing tutorials online Sketchbook? You wanted to do character design if iam not mistaken...
1:37 Ahh, you did rough colored boards of The Prince of Egypt. I thought it looked familiar. ^^
I saw that someone already posted this, but that box to cover your info doesn't come up soon enough. I can see all of your personal information, be safe!!
I can't compete with people like this....
Love your art though!
No wonder you got accepted, your art is stunning!!
Congrats to you! beautiful sketchbook!!!
Congrats, these CalArts sketchbooks are fantastic! So beautiful and inspiring. What's the sketchbook brand? Do you have any favorite tools?
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!
agh im so happy for you!
Omg so good i wonder how your lines are super flowyyy
your bnw art is amazing but the colored ones are exceptional!!!
laru mey I
what was your prior school?
Hello!!! Your sketchbook is a huge inspiration for me, i love how colorful and filled with environment your submission is!! Are there maybe any tips you can give for drawing enviroments around you? I know thats a requirement for applications, urban drawing, but I honestly get really confused/unsure where to even start... do you maybe have any tips or advice for drawing locations around you/fitting it in the page...?
your art is so amazing!
I want to go to Calarts one day but I'm 13 so it'll have to wait
draw like craaazy! good luck. it's great you're aware of your art dreams so early, much earlier than most people.
Im 11 and can draw a realistic face idk If I can make it lol
i think calarts sketchbooks and animations on vimeo and youtube can show that it takes a lot more than being able to draw realistic faces.. but good start! By the way Loomis is so awesome for learning how to draw & construct faces! I wasted so much time before studying Loomis (drawing the head and hands), now it takes me half of the time than I used to! Bridgman is awesome too. All their books are free for pdf download online
im 13 too and same i wanna get into Calarts no matter what
I’m turning 16 and I still need to learn to draw observations and like nude people because I am shit at humans and proportions
Omg I was listening to the music and all in the sudden this muddled rap showed up XD I knew it was Jay Chou lmao
Lovely!
I love your art 💖
holy crud wait... did you get excepted submitting two different sketchbook? thats dope!
i know im commenting a year later but what was the application process like? i want to apply but im super scared..
When doing room drawings do you take a picture and draw from the pic??
Your character designs are amazing. Could you give me some tips?
This is great!
Omg I loved your sketchbook so much and lol sorry if this is weird but I’m 17 and I’m interested in calarts but I’m probably going to go to a 2 year college first. How old were you when you got accepted? I’m just wondering because I feel like because I’m not going right away I’ll be falling behind and I’ll be older than everyone else
whoa, did you get in right after high school??? I'm trying to learn more on my own since the art classes in Canadian high schools aren't so great. How did you get to this level? love your watercolors btw
Augustine C. Hey cmon give canadian HS a little credit T_T
she went to sva for two years before switching to calarts! not to discredit her she is an amazing artist but dont be too hard on yourself
sorry. It could be the art classes in Winsdor or just my high school that makes me feel this way... like it's so random. No one even mentioned Loomis or Bridgman to me, all we ever look at are the greats like Gustav Klimt or Van Gogh. Seems like a pretty bad structure to learn how to draw properly
thanks for the info! SVA sounds cool. Just wishing I could be like Mabel Ye :')
I don't know, I went to high school in Canada and boy, my art class was not very beneficial. The teacher was a good artist, but he just failed to realise what his students needed to succeed. It was a lot of free, draw-whatever classes with no real information on basics, like light/shadow, form and anatomy, etc. I was always into illustration, animation, character design and stuff like that, but he just kept telling me how it's all nonsense and not going to take me anywhere. He wanted me to draw fruit on the table, or flowers in a vase, even though I had no real interest in fine art. This was early 2000's, before internet became such a great resource for young artists, so I took him at his word and thought my style was impractical. The worst thing, I stopped drawing altogether after high school and went into college on a completely different path. My life could have been much different.
That's really cool!!
that is really incredible, I love your drawing and idea. what is the name of background song
Aaaa I love your work!!! what type of materials do you use? it looks like watercolor but idk
How do you usually proceed to make one of your drawing? by making a sketch in the momento and then complete it with a picture or just references..? I've been trying to improve my perspective/ anatomy and its quite difficult (impossible for me) to get all the angles/poses straight out of your brain. Great work btw!! you are very talented!
ArsBlue Im sorry im not her/him, but try looking at a pose and then sketching out the pose from memory. That way you just make the same pose, but its remembered better?? idk how to explain hah.
Thank you so much for answering! I will try to do that!
your sketchbook is so lovely!!! do you mind me asking how long it approximately takes you to finish a life drawing? :D
2:08 is that Pewdiepie??
Amazing sketchbook! Really inspiring!
LOVE IT! AMAZING!!!
Is this for illustration?
Which book got you accepted?
Nice work!!! :D
It might just be me but I think it's a bit lacking in the creative side,, it shines through with a ton of potential and this was overall incredibly impressive and different !! Congratulations and good luck !!!!
Mayra Soria I actually thought it lacked that good human form / anatomy that I thought calarts really looked for, but was swapped with loads of creativity which made it very likeable
What program did u apply for?
what does it mean to have a sketchbook accepted or rejected from CalArts?
Hanna Stocks the sketchbook is part of the application process and the accepted ones mean that the artist got in and the rejected ones mean that they didn't get in
Calarts is an art school, and to apply to go there you need to submit a sketchbook. If it was rejected, the school did not accept you to possibly go to that school, and if you were accepted, you can go to that school.
Did you use marker to draw this or just watercolor??
scholarships?
So many domestic me...god
