And do you like to plan out what you draw? Or does it happen spontaneously, taking on a life of its own?
Yes I do love to draw people! :) But recently I'm getting into still life and environmental drawings as well. I did make sure that there are character pages once in every while, but other than that, I just carried the sketchbook around and drew what intrigued me.

When you are out drawing people in public try to be close enough to draw them but not so close it is obvious. People sitting around on trains and buses etc. - they actually don't move that much. Sometimes they are napping or staring at cell phones. if someone moves, wait a few seconds they will move right back to the original position. Also, if you start several small figures on a page, as one moves you can go back to another which was half finished and work on that and so forth. Try to have some fun looking for interesting people wearing interesting clothes or carrying all kinds of backpacks and carry bags.

It's rare to find a piece of artwork that takes you into it and surrounds you making you feel it's real this way, but your whole sketchbook is filled with them! I can see it's like a printed compilation of your sketches? I didn't know it was possible to submmit a sketchbook that way. That's why they're so clean and well placed, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I need to ask about the café/library piece, how do you do that? I mean, what's the process behind? do you take a picture and draw away? because I'm sure that if I tried to do that otherwise I would go crazy with all the pleople moving, but I can see you've got a lot of practice on drawing from life... however you did it, it's amazing. Seriously, I can almost hear people talking and laughing around and smell the coffee. PS. Huge shoutout to your hands, enviroment and building drawings. so. freacking. detailed. Stunning.
Thank you! this is the original sketchbook, they don't really let you do a compilation I think -- only a whole sketchbook. They discourage you from drawing from picture, so I just went to places and drew sitting there. I realized that some people leave while others stay for a while, so I chose to draw those who stayed and didn't bother to draw those who left :) Wishing you luck with your sketchbook!

How many hours of work would this be? I'm wondering about how many I should invest into my portfolio. With my current speed I'd need around 500 hours for a decent one.
Some pages were way quicker than others, and overall I just tried to carry it everywhere. As of portfolio other than the sketchbook, I recommend trying as hard as you can and then choosing your best ones :) Wishing you luck!
It's the Moleskine (the art series, not the regular one) -- but the marker still bleeds through. I've either glued a marker paper on the top or have put another textured paper on the next page so that the bleed wouldn't be obvious. :)
