The Beatles have something for everyone, The Beatles at their worst wrote some of the catchiest pop songs, and at their best wrote some of the most significant songs for a generation that still remain timeless
Well said.
Definitely -- they definitely matured/changed over the years too. I always say I like the Beatles once they started smoking pot lol -- Love their later stuff!
So succinctly put! :) ❤️
@@kierstenridgway4634 without a doubt!
And The Beatles have "Something" one of the greatest songs ever written, I believe :)
George was the hidden gem of The Beatles.
One of my all time favourite Beatles songs...it's just a hauntingly beautiful song with powerful lyrics from George Harrrison and a terrific lead guitar performance from Eric Clapton.
At a tribute to George Harrison, Tom Petty and others played this song. Prince was invited to do the end solo and killed it. One of his best guitar solos.
I REALLY want to see them react to that video!!!! I mentioned it in a comment on the Purple Rain video.
The “Others” included Dhani Harrison (spitting image of his dad,) Jeff Lynne, Steve Cropper, GE Smith, Ray Cooper, Phil Collins, Paul Schaffer…
BTW. Prince wasn’t invited. Look for the interview with Dhani Harrison where he says Prince crashed the jam on a borrowed Telecaster and, when Dhani motions to Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, they both shrug as if to say “Let Prince be Prince!”
Yeah Prince invited himself to participate. He really didn't belong there. Sure, his performance was superb, but his egotism really detracted from my appreciation of it.
I agree. That performance is fantastic.
The great Eric Clapton on lead guitar 🔥🔥🎸
Clapton the creep cheated with Harrison’s wife
He fell in love with her
@@josephjohnson7256 George and Eric stayed good friends
George explained it as His dismay at the world's unrealized potential for universal love, which he refers to as "the love there that's sleeping"
Typical Dream world logic. When has the world ever been that way? It's not in mans Makeup to be good, at least not in the way he's talking about.
@@827dusty But wouldn't it be nice?
@@827dusty You sound like the type to criticize a song like imagine for being unrealistic. Yes it’s unrealistic and yes it’ll probably never happen but it’s a good dream it’s something to hope for isn’t it?
@@827dusty you're thinking in absolutes. The world can get better. It doesn't mean EVERYTHING in the world will be 100% better, but even a small part would be great.
@@FreeMTrider exactly, just because it isn't now doesn't mean it can't be. 🤔
I can't tell you how nice it is to have such young people getting what they did. These guys literally changed the world. That's not what they set out to do but it is what they did. They were a cataclysmic event that I am so happy I got to live through. I remember the world before the Beatles and I know the world after the Beatles and they are not the same worlds. Thank God for those guys. They made us all better even if that's not what they were trying to do. They did. Love you guys.
You are so right! The world before and the world after were so different. I was and still am a fan right from Love Me Do.
What a lovely comment. I was born and grew up in a post-Beatles world so it's hard to imagine the scale of the impact they had.

That's some of the best playing Eric Clapton ever did.
Definitely great but don't think you've heard much Clapton! Should have seen him live in those days!
One of the most hauntingly serious songs the Beatles have done
It was a Harrison/Clapton collaberation
@@gmatt200 Ya. What’s depressing is that we are still killing children.
60 years later and it’s gotten worse.
No Gary. George wrote it by himself and Clapton played lead. They did co-write Badge for Cream though.

This song is fire. George Harrison was a genius singer/songwriter. Eric Clapton was guest guitarist and took no credit on the album but you know it’s him. Brilliant, just Brillant song. Still gives me chills since 1970.❤love it! It sounds simple but is a musically complex song.
I was 11 when rhe Beatles came to America. They were on the Ed Sullivan show. U have been a fan since. I am bow 71
Yep it was Eric Clapton.
George Harrison also wrote “Something” which according to Frank Sinatra (I think) and others said it was the greatest love song ever written! And it is absolutely beautiful.
It's the only Beatles song covered by both Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley...
Yes , and Frank was funny since he said it was the greatest 'Beatle' song he'd ever heard ---- leaving quiet George out of the recognition he deserved.
You're correct. Mr. Sinatra was not a fan of rock and roll at all, but among many other talents he was great at recognizing great songs.speaking of great Beatles songs check out Here there everywhere
Such a beautiful affecting song.
Smaller body of work, but wrote the best Beatles titles.
RIP George Harrison. He had an amazing career in and out of the Beatles. Other George songs you would love, My sweet lord and Here comes the sun. So good!
I always felt one of the best pieces George ever wrote (even though I've never heard him sing a version of it) was "Isn't It A Pity". I love Nina Simone's cover of it, and I have no problem listening to Eric Clapton's version either.

So simple yet so utterly divine…
Only the lead guitarist for the Beatles would have the stones to invite Eric Clapton to play lead on an iconic track
50 years on it is still difficult to express what this group achieved and the world it changed.
As great a lead guitarist that GEORGE was, the lead in this studio version is actually Eric Clapton.
Years later Eric Clapton did the song, and George Harrisson did the slide guitar
George played lead. Clapton only played the solo.

The live performance of this song at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is awesome! They have an ensemble group of musicians and Prince steals the show with his guitar solo
They would need to go down the Tom Petty rabbit hole so they knows who's in the ensemble!

Thank you for your comments!! I got the bug back in the early 70th. Welcome to the club!!! Thank you guys ❤
You hit the nail on the head Amber in your commentary about the difference between todays music scene versus that of the 60's and 70's. Back then, commercial success and fame were the result of the artistic output, creativity and passion. It was art first. Now it seems that celebrity, fame and money, are the goals, artistry just seems accidental. Today's "artists" hide their lack of talent with "production values", 25 dancers, light shows and fireworks
It's hard to impart the magnitude of how much mastery is in this song, when engineering tricks and studio digitizing make today's music sound polished - but this stuff towers over today's sound by hundreds of feet.
People don,t realize that almost all of the Beatles songs were recorded on only 4 tracks,,Amazing what they put down in the studio!!
Very well said. Your so right, the more time passes the more I turn back to the 60s and 70s for my music. Todays stuff is without soul.
The Beatles songs that sounded “different “ were by George Harrison. He knew what’s up with the world... very spiritual man. His first solo album,”All Things Must Pass”is amazing. I got it in high school, but didn’t really get into the lyrics until I was older. George has become my favorite Beatle. George wrote and performed the biggest love song ever”Something “...also great is “Here Comes the Sun”,and “Think For Yourself “from Rubber Soul album. My 2 favorite Beatles albums are “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver”. One of their BEST songs is “Rain”, which was the “B” side of “Paperback Writer”. When I was about 9 yrs old I purchased “Paperback Writer”, and once I played “Rain” my allegiance changed. “Rain” is a very overlooked song... unbelievable bass, and the first time backward masking was used.
George was my favorite Beatle too.
While The Beatles were great across the board, My 2 favorite Beatle albums are also Rubber Soul and Revolver!
All Things Must Pass is one of my very favorite albums EVER.
George was working on a higher plain than everyone else. I’ve got “all things must pass” surrounding a wheel of life (the wheel on the flag of India 🇮🇳) tattooed on my feet
What is life! ❤️
The most pleasurable part of growing up with the Beatles was listening to them over and over again, along with the excitement, anticipation, musical adventure and inward growth that came with each new album.
George is so powerful. A whole 'nuther level. 💜
You want mellow (groovy) Beatles? Within You and Without You, The Long and Winding Road, If I Fell, Girl, Norwegian Wood, In My Life... some of my favorites.
Love Eric Clapton guitar solo work in this song w/Beatles. Weeps is right. Glad you are enjoying your musical journey. Keep it up. I grew up in the 60's/70's and music was the best.

The bass tone on this song shouldn’t be overlooked. It sounds so chunky and fantastic. Tube preamps for the win.
Paul played piano in this song.

Actually, I think that’s George overdubbing Fender Bass VI.
@@paw9213 Paul played bass, Lennon wasn't there the day when most of this song was recorded and it was a slight that Harrison never fully forgave him for.
"...yeah, yeah, yeah..." 06:20 This is a nod to the first Beatles hit "She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)" Those 3 words became a catchphrase for the entire generation from that point. Yeah Yeah Yeah was the supreme affirmative that gave youth, and in particular young teen girls, the licence to express unbridled bliss! Yeah Yeah Yeah! They will return to toss "she loves you, yeah yeah yeah" into the fade out of Hey Jude too. Beatle fans automatically bliss out every time we hear it, like an acid flashback. Yeah Yeah Yeah
I think a greater power brought these 4 lads from England together. No other explanation. I've loved the Beatles since I was 5 in 1963. I was a John girl. ✌🌻🌻
That’s Eric Clapton on lead guitar he was best friends with George Harrison who is doing the lead vocal on the song.
Clapton repaid him by STEALING HIS GIRL! Seriously though Pattie Boyd was the muse behind Something by the Beatles (another George song) and both Layla and Wonderful Tonight by Clapton.

@@oneilprovost2287 Ahh yes, the good ole "stole his wife" story. Patti was married to George 1966 - 1977. Patti was married to Eric 1979 - 1989. In any case, while Patti was married to Eric, George referred to himself as the "husband-in-law".
George Harrison wrote this and Eric Clapton played the guitar (the only outside guitarist to ever play on a Beatles record, one song). Listen to "Something" by the Beatles, Another Harrison song.
That's because Eric was the man at that time, George and Eric were great friends obviously.. jus too bad patti caught Eric's eye.
Something is my favorite Beatles song so simple so complex
Blackbird is my favorite Beatles song!
Eric was also having an affair with George’s wife, model Patti Boyd.
I did not know that story about Eric Clapton playing guitar on this because Harrison was a freaking guitarist but that's kind of cool. My favorite track is Eleanor Rigby but that's just me. Few weeks ago I asked my pop what Beatles song did he think was my favorite? When I told him Eleanor Rigby was very surprised. Those guys were pumping out so many freaking hits. I'll admit it was long long before my time but my pop was a kid. Eleanor Rigby because I like the lyrics and the double meanings. Thanks for helping me out with that do trivia that I can do it somebody about Eric Clapton on guitar on this track. If they do not have a Beatles board trivia game, they should. Sometimes it's just cool to play something like Monopoly and the old school way. If they do have a Beatles trivia board game that is cool, but if they don't one of you guys use the idea and get the patent because I'm pretty freaking sure that it would sell just because of the Nostalgia of a board game but then of course the Beatles and that Nostalgia and and everybody like trivia usually. Then me 10% in the mail LOL
When George first presented this the rest of the guys realised it was special. George was even allowed to bring in an extra lead guitarist, Eric Clapton, to get the sound that he wanted. The bass line is duplexed, probably John on the 6 string bass playing with Paul on the 4 string. I think this was the first use of 8 track recording as well.
You should play some early stuff too. "I wanna Hold Your Hand," "Twist & Shout," "Ticket to Ride," "Help," etc.
One of George Harrison’s masterpieces. People finally started to pay attention to his songwriting after always being overshadowed by Lennon/McCartney in that department. He knocked this one out of the park. Such a beautiful song. Love your reaction. There’s a lot more for you to discover. Keep em coming. 🥰
This is my favorite Beatles song. Great reaction from you both.
You need to know, each member wrote songs and they sang the lead on their own songs. While my guitar weeps was all George at his best.RIP George and John.
This shows how *GREAT* the Beatles were: this song was made when the band, by their *OWN* standards, were coming apart and going downhill!!
But their 2 best albums were made during their last 2 years.

i'm not really into cover versions, no matter how well done or spectacular or in other peoples opinion 'better' the cover is, i always feel a cover loses a little bit of soul.
Joe Cockers version of WALHFMF is, however, IMO, the greatest cover version of all time.
Paul told him that the song was his now.
The Beatles songs ‘Eleanor Rigby’ heavy on the violins, violas, and cellos; and ‘Got to Get you Into my Life’, awesome trumpets and sax. These songs will make your day.
You both remind me of how lucky I am to be a child of the 60’s. The radio brought hit after amazing hit to us every single hour of every single day. The solo here from Georges friend Eric Clapton is quite possibly Eric's best ever guitar solo, and I mean I'm keeping this right up there with White Room and Crossroads, the string bending and finger vibrato are incomparable .. my god it's as good as Dave Gilmour may have done if he was offered the job.. Well done George and Eric and all Beatles concerned, this is a classic!!!
The guitar weeping is the music coming from the guitar. The love sleeping was Paul's wife Linda sleeping in the studio as they were recording day & night 24/7.
Another stellar George Harrison composition (along with this song, “Something”, and many others is the song “Beware Of Darkness” from his first solo album “All Things Must Pass”If I’m not mistaken, “All Things Must Pass” is also the very first triple album ever recorded for commercial sale.

This is my favorite George Harrison song. Every time a great musician passes on, I think of this song. I remember when Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in the helicopter crash, this was the song I requested. To my thinking you can hear George's guitar weeping throughout the song.

Clapton fits this song perfectly. I don’t know another guitarist that could have played this solo better(aside from Prince).
Neither could George. He felt only one person could do it perfectly - his friend Eric Clapton. And I’m sure George was looking down and smiling when Prince took it to another level.
I just went back to Prince's solo and gave it a good listen. I have heard it several times before and thought I should listen to it more carefully this time to see if I still fest the same way about it. It didn't change my mind, his guitar solo just doesn't impress me that much. The technical skills he used any good 2nd or 3rd year guitarist could do. It was his many ears of experience and knowledge of the fret board that allowed for a somewhat impressive solo.

The Beatles are one of the two arguably most important rock bands in music history (the other being The Beach Boys), not necessarily for their popularity but for their contributions to composition and production and musical styles. John Lennon is the rhythm guitarist, who plays the song's primary melody. He also occasionally plays piano and, I think, bass. Paul McCartney is the bass guitar player, which is also part of the rhythm section, playing the deeper notes of the melody. He's also a pianist and occasional drummer on Beatles songs. George Harrison is the lead guitarist, who plays the flourishes and guitar solos. Ringo Starr is the drummer. Most of The Beatles songs were co-written by Lennon and McCartney, and they alternate on lead singing on most of the songs. But all, or most, of The Beatles albums feature songs written and sung by Harrison or Starr. This one was written and performed by George Harrison, for instance. Neither were considered great singers, so songs were usually written especially for their vocal range.
The importance of The Beatles comes in the sheer number of musical styles they employed, from boy band style pop songs, to psychedelic rock, progressive rock, and even heavy metal (Helter Skelter is widely considered the first heavy metal song, but has also been described as Punk or even Grunge). They also employed innovative production techniques for mixing tracks, and utilized non-traditional (often Indian) instrumentation and even non-musical sound effects. In America The Beach Boys were sort of a mirror for The Beatles, also employing complex compositions and arrangements and production, and they're associated with a wide range of genres as well, from pop rock dance music to progressive rock. Between The Beatles and The Beach Boys they pretty much invented every major genre of rock and roll music that later evolved throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Definitely a worthy deep dive to get into both of these bands, a super deep rabbit hole. And yeah, there really isn't a "sound" you can associate broadly with either of them, since their musical styles varied so widely. No two songs sound alike, just like you said.
Why are the Beach boys one of the best groups historically, I only know one song by them which was mediocre
@@robanks3895 True.
The Beach Boys ?
The lead guitar in "Weeps" was done by George Harrison's friend, Eric Clapton. This song's lead vocal is George Harrison, who is also the songwriter.
The lead guitar is played by Eric Clapton, a close friend of George Harrison who wrote and sang the song. It was the only time a guest guitarist played on a Beatles song.
Bravo. I’m 73 . I was in high school when the Beatles started the so called British Invasion and I have always felt I was a young man during the golden age of popular music and the Beatles were the apex of that era. I am delighted to see you perceive that the music is different than anything on the pop charts today. Melodically, harmonically and lyrically it is of a higher standard and I have listened to a good sampling of contemporary popular music. I was also a young man before the music video began to dominate the pop music field, a development many people at the time predicted would be the death of popular music. When the video I.e. what Aristotle called the spectacle , for the eyes becomes more important than the music itself you have a problem. I used to tell my. music history classes that you will need to accept 3 aesthetic ideas to progress in your understanding of music in all it’s forms. 1) popularity is rarely a measure of artistic merit 2) what you like or dislike is , by itself , no measure of artistic merit . 3) you can like a work of art (song, painting, movie, sculpture book etc. without enjoying it. Keep stretching you ear.
Frank Sinatra was particularly impressed with "Something", calling it "the greatest love song of the past 50 years".
Keep listening 👂🏼
he called its the best Lennon/McCartney track he heard....and its funny because they never wrote it showing how far george came as a musisian in his own write
George at his finest.
The overlooked Lennon classic off Revolver-She Said, She Said.Brilliant
George has credited Clapton as playing lead on this recording. He said they were in a rut and needed some fresh sounds to inspire them.
♥ this song! I suggest the following Beatles songs: Norwegian Wood, Yesterday, In My Life, Revolution #1, Let It Be, Get Back, Eleanor Rigby, Something, Here Comes The Sun, Help, Nowhere Man, I'm A Loser, Across The Universe, Strawberry Fields Forever & Helter Skelter
Best feedback. Best suggestions of songs!
Agreed with all. Norwegian Wood is so underrated and beautiful. Tomorrow Never Knows is oddly one of my favorites, which is weird and no one ever agrees.
Get Back
@@amouseaderful thanks!
The Beatles, "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" …you'll have fun with that one!
Not only do I prefer George Harrison's voice over John and Paul's, but his accent was also different from the others. I used to love/looked forward to listening to him speak!
George's and Paul's voices always mesh together so well.
A beautiful song written and sung by George Harrison (bottom left on photo). The Beatles were a BIG part of the soundtrack of my youth.
Just a bit of trivia, the Beatles never recorded on anything bigger than an 8 track recorder! Which makes it more obvious how talented they were!
Beatles White Album. good night
George really did a great job catching the emotion of the song with his guitar. Side note: Eric Clapton (best friend) fell in love with George’s wife and wrote the song Layla about her.
That's Eric Clapton on the lead.
The name Layla (not Pattie, who was married to George) comes from an Arabic love poem.
Eric was best man at George and Patty’s wedding. Then later after George and Patti split. George was the best man at Eric and Patty’s wedding.
Layla is so great . i must have listened to it ten thousand times. i love ths solo in it i hope J and Amber listen to it .
and it's 'Lucy' Eric is playing in the song. He later gave George the guitar called 'Lucy' as an gesture after sleeping with his wife. John Sebastian bought it new in '63 I guess, later sold it to Rick Derringer who painted it Red, the decided he didn't like the color and sold it. Eric bought it then later gave it to George. George loved that guitar.
"A Day In The Life" is one of the greatest Beatles songs. A very early hit, "She Loves You" is very different but iconic of that era of the band.
YES!!!!!! Love all the changes in that song.
Clapton killed the weeping guitar
This was the music of spiritual enlightenment.
The great Eric Clapton adds his confident guitar to this Beatles classic, written by George Harrison, who was his friend. This one of the few of his songs by George that helped define the Beatles late period studio prowess. Another composition by George does it again with measured elegance of his song called, 'Something'. Look into each others eyes when listening to this.
‘Clapton is god’
There was a tremendous amount of turmoil in the world at the time... Vietnam..assassinations... protests...etc....so yes Rob you are correct. His guitar is weeping in tandem with a broken world...
Jordan says this is the Beatles song he's been waiting for and I say this is my favorite Beatles song of all time having come out on my 19th birthday! Yes, he's bemoaning the state of humanity.
closed my eyes and followed the vibe is exactly right! Relaxing and emotional. Current music is very dull..a few good ones out their but hard to find. 100 years from now people will still be listening to the Beatles.
You've definitely got to check out Eleanor Rigby from them, it's one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs they ever wrote.
Eleanor Rigby is my very favorite song by the Beatles. It's a little rare because most people would not choose Eleanor Rigby as their favorite Beatles track like I
@@choice12ozborne It's my favorite too. Even when I did not understand english and did not know what the lyrics were about, the music was incredible to my ears.
It's also the only song on which none of The Beatles played any instruments.
It's definitely in my top 5 Beatles songs.
Tony, haunting hits the nail right on the head. The songs probably only 60 years or so old but hangs in there with the best of them as do the Beatles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhh, The Beatles had a special knack of making the simplest of songs sound sooooo nice! Your body language says it all. That's George Harrison on lead vocals. He wrote some of their best songs, like "Here Comes the Sun" and "I Need You". Great reaction! P.S. The next Beatles song you experience will become your new FAVORITE Beatles song LOL.☮☮☮
Quite possibly the best Beatles song of all Beatles songs by the greatest band of all time. ( Clapton on lead guitar here)
The Beatles wrote so many tunes that are beyond their years and are iconic and no one will ever step up to their level.
Try some solo George Harrison (this is one of George's songs). "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)," "My Sweet Lord," "All Things Must Pass." Many to choose from.
Dark Horse is great, too!
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Healy performed "while my guitar gently weeps" is really great too
The Beatles were one big hype because they were out of this world.
I have to say that the best version of this was played at the 'Concert For George' 2001. Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney together was sensational but Eric played out of his skin, you could feel his love for George.
Yeah, everyone talks about the Prince solo version, but this tribute was much more tasteful in my opinion while still being masterful in it's own way. Not to mention so touching when thinking about all the musicians on that stage just absolutely jamming to celebrate George's memory. When his son Dhani came over and thanked Clapton at the end it just made me finally break down in tears.
Completely agree with you.
I was there! Amazing night.
