- One of the most common questions asked of Martin is if he ever gets bit by the critters he helps and works with. In this video he will address that issue and tell the story of when he worked at Busch Gardens and one eagle "playfully" put all four of his talons through Martin's hand.

Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини

Holy Molly! "Oh sweetie." Patience with these eagles is astonishing and wonderful to see. But this is a necessary warning for those who may one day work with them.
Agreed, definitely need to know what those talons can do!
Thank you for everything you do. These birds are awe inspiring. ⭐
I was wondering why you haven't returned Scout to the wild also ?? Is there a reason why you keep him ??
@8:12 this eagle has his claws on your pants. How is that different from having them on a hand?
I'm glad you have two arms with hands on each of them!
Thank you Teri!
“You have 4 holes in your hand” uh ... “Yes I know that.” 🤣🤣
Doctors catch everything, don't they? ;-)
Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah 😂😂😂😂
Doc was real quick with his assesment of yr hand 😁. Classic
🤣🤣
I am glad your hand and arm are okay now. You and Scout look great together. He truly has respect for you as you do him.
So are we!
The relationship that Scout allows you to have with him is amazing I love to watch how patient and kind you are with even the most bad tempered animal. I best you are a wonderful dad and grandfather, your kids probably just understand with a certain look. You are true hero for others to try to emulate, thanks so much.
Thank you we appreciate your interest and kind words, faclonry is a 24/7 commitment!
Thank God your hand recovered. 👌👌👌
Agreed!
Well that is a life lesson. Thank you for sharing this one. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good to see you back!
@@GowildlifeOrg : Yeah, next 4 weeks will be also stuffed with services but then the periode is slowly coming to an end. Then finally do a week vacation and necessary repairs for our garden and house animals. My finch hen is currently in molting too, so there are lots of feathers in her cage, she will need her winter renovated cage soon too.
I once had a Red Tailed Hawk grab my hand whilst changing anklets. It was so painful. My hand swelled up almost instantly, and I still had to finish the job. It was a very sobering experience. The thought of shaking hands with a Golden Eagle gives me the fear.
Glad you are okay, take care!
Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah gyy
Fantastic story! So glad u still have a right arm!😀 Scout looks good to me!
Scout always looks good!
Ouchie!!!!! Poor YOU. You are so brave.
Big ouch for sure!
It’s amazing you have build up against bacteria against these beautiful animals.Thank you for saving all the wildlife.....
Love the sounds that Scout makes...Thanks for the video, and great story...stay awesome!
He's awfully vocal sometimes!
All I did was write 'How strong are the talons of a Golden Eagle?' into the UA-cam search engine and your video came up. I've always had a great love of these wonderful creatures! They have always fascinated, almost mystified me! You do some wonderful (and no doubt, very hard) work. Thank you.
Glad you found us!
I love the little noises they make...
Holy smokes! What an adventure.
And the building is really nice. You deserve the best for all that you do.
Thank you Maurine, we appreciate your interest!
Martin is an American hero and is a very brave man!!!
What a seriously beautiful relationship those 2 have. That is one lucky dude.
Scout is all that
You definitely have the best friends in the world. So much love for this animals.
He's definitely a critter guy!
Beautiful eagle and I thoroughly enjoy watching and learning at all you do. Next time we are out that way I’d love to stop and visit. I ordered your book this morning and can’t wait to read it. Love the work you do.
Thanks Tom, that is great to hear! We hope you enjoy the book! Please do let us know if you come to town. You can contact us directly at info@gowildlife.org
Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah you’re very welcome and sure will.
I am so thankful for people like you who are stewards of Raptors.
The love and dedication really shows with every Raptor who is brought in to receive the wonderful care.
With every Raptor returned to the wild is a testament to your success. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your interest and kind words
Beautiful Eagle and great story!
Thanks for watching
Yikes, so glad you didn't lose that arm.
Such beautiful creatures. Thank you for your love and dedication
We're glad he didn't too! Thanks for your interest and concern!
Love it when he calls a big birds "sweetie". Lol
Great story! Overuse of antibiotics is so common they aren't working very well anymore, so it is really interesting you strengthened your own immunity.
Thanks for watching!
God is our amazing creator. He has so perfectly designed our bodies! I love that you have learned that the antibodies God has given you are far better than any man can come up with. Thank you for so many years of dedication! I am a subscriber and love watching your videos.
Martin's Hawks and Falcons are Majestic Creatures, 4 holes in his hand, thinking about it is making me queasy, I found a sparrow in my house, my father died 2 days later, it was flying around the house, I was terrified, I am very superstitious about birds, or paintings or ornaments of birds, I would be too scared of Martin's creatures, not through superstition, the brute strength , the talons, beaks and the massive wings flapping would scare the hell out of me...
Your vids are the best. Thanks so much for all you guys do. Everyone please donate to this amazing rescue.
Thank you Sharon, glad you are enjoying
Wow, Martin! That's intense. I'm glad you kept your arm. I'm always fascinated by bird feet. They are amazing. I love the webs on ducks and the raptor feet of course.
We're glad he's still got his arm too! Scout's got great feet!
@@GowildlifeOrg I agree. He does have awesome feets. Feets that kill prey.
Thank you Martin. I really enjoy watching your videos. Congratulations on the new Rehab shed. You will now be able to save even more wildlife!❤🦅❤
Thank you Joanne, we sure hope so! And hope for much more!
Oh my, you are such a brave person! I am so glad that you rehab this fabulous birds!!
Brave and scarred!
Im glad that your ok and you still have your arm coz you really need your arms to do the amazing work that you do. You are such an amazing person Martin. Im always in awe watching all your vids. Lots of love from Auckland New Zealand 😊❤
Us too! Greetings back to New Zealand!
When I worked in a machine shop, after wearing my work boots for 8 sweaty hours my feet could kill, too.
😂
LMFAO 😂💀
🤣
Martin you are the best. Please know that your deeds helps restoring my pale, faint faith in humanity.
Thank you Nadine, that is very nice of you to say. There are whole lot of kind and generous people who help us help critters!
Bless you both 🕊️🪷🦅
what an incredible story
Thank you.
Dangggggg! Well, glad your hand turned out OK. Thanks for sharing!
So are we!
this vid deserves more views!! courageous
We appreciate every view!
Love the foot print from scout !!! So cute !!
He's got a big one!
Thank you for sharing your story, especially the part that informs us that you develop resistance to those specific bacterial infactions, and that you don't take antibiotics 'cause they also kill the good bacteria that offsets the bad. It mean a lot to me as a nurse.
I can't decide which is bigger, his kind & caring heart or his balls of bravery & courage. His unselfish love and compassion he has for all wildlife is phenomenal!
In my honest opinion, he and his wife are gifted angels serving God and the community!
God bless you for your service, hardwork and dedication!
So much admiration & respect, I can't express it with mere words, but I tried!
Thank you for such kind words, we appreciate your interest.
Great story! (better you than me!) Scout is absolutely beautiful!! Thanks!
Thanks Fran! Scout always looks good!
Amazing story. Thank you for telling it.
Happy holidays Martin and Susan! You are role models!!
Thank you Emma! We wish you best holiday too!
it is SO BIG! When he jumped from your glove to your leg my heart nearly stopped. I highly doubt blue jeans could stop a talon from the likes of a Scout from going through!!! 😱😬💕
Yeah no. Jeans are absolutely no protection
Oh my Lord, this story is scary. Cannot believe you went through that. I also agree about antibiotics. Good for you.👍🏽
That one eagle gave what looked like a painful kiss..yikes
Definitely need to take care around them!
Ouch! That sounds horrific! I am so glad you didn't lose your arm or your love for eagles.
So are we! Thanks for your concern!
What a painfull kiss of an eagle.. I like scout very much...
Scout is amazing!
Wow, eagle talons are sure impressive!
And such GORGEOUS birds they are too!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO.
Sending love out of Salt Lake City 💕💕💕
Agreed, gorgeous birds! Thanks for watching!
I wish you a Health to your hands 🙌.
What an Amazing job you have, GOD Bless you for the work that you do with these beautiful creatures of GOD thank you for all you do
Your a awesome man ! Thanks for keeping the eagles 🦅 healthy
Thank you Juan
Lovely video of Martin sharing stories of him and Scout. Amazing!
You are there for look after eagles. God bless you sir..
Your Living your God gifted destiny taking care of All of His Majestic birds 🦅 Truly Amazing n mind blowing to watch these videos ♥️ Thank You for sharing 👍
"Wow well done sweety, you've just bitten my finger off. I'm so damn proud of you you know that! Well, wanna go for the next one right now?? Sure, no prob girl give it all you got, maybe this time you might even get 2 fingers off at once!" Well if this isn't caring about your animals then I really don't know what is...
Fortunately Martin still has all his fingers. Over his 50 years of working with critters he's found keeping a steady tone and attitude is helpful, even if he has to quietly endure some pain.
Well that's good to hear at least hehe ;) Most wild animals can sense if a human is there to help or not, and in those cases they will more likely give 'warning' bites or scratches when you handle them instead of using full force like when somebody is about to harm them or something so that makes a huge difference as well of course.
Them trying to bite and claw him is a good sign, a wild bird that doesn't try to fight or resist in any way is usually in really bad shape.
Them trying to bite and claw shows there's still life and fight left in them.
I've loved birds and had a fascination and love for Eagles as long as I can remember. So I'm really glad to have found your channel. Ive been bitten by pet Parrots more times than I can count, and it hurts like hell every time. I can't imagine getting tagged by a bird that size.Your a true American hero my friend.... battle scars and everything.
We're glad you found us too! Thanks for your interest!
That’s a big eagle 🦅 wow
Scout is on the big side for a male.
Seriously? Did you know that the largest eagle is a harpy? Out in the jungle, Harpies hunt sloths, grown sloths. They can even glide and fly with prey almost their size. In mongolia, there are subspecies of golden eagle witch are used by falconers in a tradition amd will usually hunt wolves with their golden eagles. The first golden eagle flys up to scout, then it hunts the wolf down whilst trying to kill it, then comes the other eagle and secures the prey though not often is the prey alive
@@viktorbihar5384 I thought the Great Philippine Eagle was the largest?
@@cobalt3738 your're right Philippine eagle is the largest (length), while stellar sea eagle is the biggest (weight). Harpy eagle is the 2nd largest and 2nd biggest eagle in terms of maximum weight while philipine eagle is the 2nd biggest in terms of average weight
You sir are a great man!
When we lived in Las Vegas thirty some years ago, we had a neighbor who was a wildlife expert, working mostly with bats. He routinely kept his rabies shots current, and had himself tested to be sure his immunity was up, etc. I don't know if you'd need something like that for this work. What you do is very interesting to everybody!!!
Great story, glad it caused no lasting damage. I avoid antibiotics too after overuse when I was younger. Scout is beautiful.
We're glad too!
I love your web admin’s sense of humour!
We don't let her out much...
I really like and enjoy this man.
So do we!
Great Videos. God bless You
Thank you for your interest
You guys are awesome. Scout is beautiful.
Agreed, Scout is all that!
wow , what a story! I often wondered why you do not always wear protective gear over all exposed skin, but your story helps a bit. God bless you and your good work. I often follow the eagle nesting cams and the peregrine falcons , then I fly over to the hummingbirds, whose images raised funds for tiny preemie baby care. Life - it's about life. It MUST be about life. Shocked to have to say so out loud - I thought everyone felt so, but no. Maybe covid will help people to appreciate and engage in life in better and helpful ways more and more. Happy New Year!
Thank you for your interest
What a great story.
Congratulations
just bought your book i love watching your vids very inspiring and it's sad when you loose one
Thanks Lisa, that's great to hear! We hope you will enjoy the book!
Great story, it just goes to show that these birds have instinctive mechanisms but we have tamed them. You are running a great program for these beautiful birds - I hope you sell a lot of books and receive funding so you could better care for them.
Thank you for your interest but none of the animals we handle are tame. Our wildlife ambassadors are trained, but still wild. Generally, any wild animal that acts "tame" is very sick.
Majestic!
Scout is something for sure!
I really enjoy the videos and his stories
Good to hear, thank you!
Martin you are so lucky, watching you with that bird, the way you care for it. I would love to have an eagle on my arm and be able to pet it lovingly like you do 💙💜❤️💚
Scout is definitely a good part of Martin's work. It's a 24/7 commitment to care for him properly.
He is a great man!
Hi from Scotland. I have a friend who is a falconer and he tells the tale of a friend of his who was cleaning out the mews where he kept his Buzzard and got careless. Something spooked his bird and it jumped onto his bare arm with both sets of talons going right through. In great pain, he managed to release one foot and was trying to manoeuvre the Buzzard into a perch when it grabbed onto his free wrist, effectively handcuffing him. Dripping blood, all he could do was sit and gently talk to his bird to calm it. It took 30 minutes for the bird to release him and he lost quite a bit of blood but he said it was his own fault, not his Buzzard's. My friend would never let me help out unless I had a gauntlet on.
There is risk for sure
That sounds like agonizing pain! Idk how you could sit still while those wooden sticks were being shoved into those holes in your hand! I'm glad you still have your arm!
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
That was fantastic information.
Good to hear
What a bone chilling story to hear. Definitely makes you feel like you're gonna throw up when you can imagine what it looked like as it's being told.
We hope you are okay!
@@GowildlifeOrg I'm fine. Takes more than a grueling story to make me sick lol.
Nice talons, little scary, good to have right arm back, what a tough day!
Two arms are very nice for sure!
Great videos love you guys
Scout is a gorgeous creature & Martin is a VERY VERY wise human. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and your beautiful friendships with these magnificent creatures.
PS - Scout didn't look scroungey to me, in fact he still doesn't look scroungey to me even after Martin said it. LOL
I love Scout. Perfect name for him.
We love him too!
Oh you ate one of my fingers,... VERY GOOD!
Always a risk...
Wow so cute 😍😍😍😍💓
Very interesting information about antibiotics! I’ve had 10 spinal surgeries, most of them within the last 6 years. About 5 surgeries ago I developed two antibiotic resistant infections in my spine. The infectious disease doctors had me on multiple antibiotics, both orally and via IV. I was never off of antibiotics. During the last few years I’ve just had all sorts of weird complications, all from the antibiotics. In March of this year, every joint in my body swelled up, I started bleeding profusely and I was hospitalized. I developed a severe infection in my colon. I needed a different antibiotic! The infectious disease doctor has now taken me off all antibiotics and I’m feeling so much better. I’ve only been off antibiotics for 3 months and I hope I don’t have a reoccurrence of my spinal infection. The antibiotic resistant infections came about because doctors over prescribed antibiotics. More people need to know not to take antibiotics without very good cause. Thank you!
We're glad you are feeling better. It is interesting, and sometimes scary, how each person may react differently to various treatments.
Thank you!
I got the book, and I got Scout's print as well as autographs. It's a nice easy read, and breaks up nicely while in a waiting room of a doctor's office, not to mention the interesting animal stories. If there is one word for the book it is Determination - from the git go, when parents thought he was just playing w/birds.
Great to hear! Glad you enjoyed!
That is awesome, i shared your video too.

First off, Thank you, thank for sharing your experiences and love for these majestic creatures, Which method for procurement of the book benefits you most, direct through your site or through the Amazon store you have?
Hi Ric, thanks for your interest. From the site, you get it signed by Martin, Susan and Scout, we ship it personally. From Amazon, you pay a lot less! More for critters from our site for sure.
@@GowildlifeOrg thank you so much, heading to your site now.
@@GowildlifeOrg Grandmas Cookies were awesome! love the book! thank you
Look how he went for the neck! 1:13 😬
These eagles know just where to aim.😳
❤️
This would be a very effective story to share with the people you invite to release the birds. Stating 600 psi of crushing pressure is definitely impressive but and account of ‘four holes through your hand along with an nearly incurable infection ‘ would certainly get my attention even more. Love watching your work.
Eagles definitely have many intimidating qualities for sure!
They can hurt you beyond belief even with the gloves on via crush pressure I heard.
With the educational birds, do you trim their talons for safety measures? I noticed Scout on your leg/blue jeans. Thank you.
No, they need their talons sharp for eating and hunting. Most of our Wildlife Ambassadors are also falconry birds.
Hi Martin. I hope u dont mind answering this for me. A few buzzards have been coming to my neighborhood for a couple mos now, bc neighbor attracted them by leaving out canned cat food. They land on my roof and even my car!!! I chase them away n try to make myself look big n scary, but they come back. Im only 5’ tall. Lol. Should I call DNR or a different organization? Im hoping they will trap them and relocate the wake. I hear them every day now, so I believe they have moved nearby.
I used to throw out stale bread for the little birds, but Ive stopped it. Do u know if the vultures would eat the bread?
Anyway, you handle these birds so lovingly, it is really a beautiful thing to see.

I absolutely agree with your immune system experience.
If you expose yourself to those types of bacteria regularly, your body builds up immunities to the bacteria that you've been regularly exposed to.
The way he holds it so close to his face, I'm just waiting for it to take a nice little peck. lol
Could happen...
Fascinating story and information about the anti biotic and your body immune system. Reminds me a little about how people become immune to snake poison.
It is curious the way individuals react differently sometimes.
