Once the harpy appeared here in my neighborhood and terrorized the neighborhood. The birds went into a frenzy trying to lure the harpy away from their nests or something. Interesting that in Greek mythology Harpies lived in Crete. They are described as being human sized. Crete used to have a species of Giant Eagle in prehistoric times. Imagine what the first people to settle Crete thought when they first saw these birds. Or when they were first attacked by them!
We used to have an Eagle here in NZ known as the Haast Eagle. More reliable sources cite it as the largest known eagle, which ate 500lb Moa, and snacked on human children.
The word "harpy" comes from the same Greek word as "harp"-the musical instrument -that's because the strings are plucked and the mythological flying ugly women called harpies used to swoop down and pluck people up.
I came across 2 Harpie's about 5 years ago , not knowing what they were. I just seen 2 large birds with a huge nest. At first I was scarred. To shake off the fear I just spoke to them saying ," you stay there I am going down that way and we leave each other alone." They watched me walk away.

Harpy eagles have sort of become a "symbol" of our household. Incredible! Thank you for educating us about this magnificent bird !
2 feet 19 inches... somehow no one caught that.
Thank you. At least 1 person noticed it.
Awesome video! I'm also a huge fan of the shoebill! Next bird video?? They are so cool. Prehistoric looking and have cool, polite mannerisms.
We have a harpy at ft worth zoo. Such beautiful birds. When it looks at you it appears to be peering into you soul. I would love to see one in the wild doing what they do. The sounds they make is both savage and astounding at the same time.
kinda sad when its monogamous it doesnt have a partner
Such a beautiful bird, I didn't even know anything about them, great video 🦅🦅
Some animals like big cats and these birds have a look in their eyes..for sure intelligence and character.
We should do everything possible to save these Beautiful Birds of prey and teach our children to respect all creatures great and small.
❤❤❤❤
At the moment there is a giant eurasian owl not native to our country in the UK flying around norfolk where i live. It escaped from a Zoo. There are literally people travelling miles to the last known locations just to try and see it. So I can kinda see how large birds in general are quite majestic.
oh man it must be lonely. being used to people and now trying to find a mate. I hope it can bond with some people for some company, because what's the chance of another eurasian owl coming to your area
@@christinamasberg Well maybe It will find a nice little barn owl to make friends with lol.
That is the most beautiful bar may God protect that and blessed for the future. Thank you for showing it off.
Seen one for the first time at the zoo. Couldnt believe how tall they stand.
My dad took me to a lot of animal sanctuary when i was young,Ive seen our national bird the bald eagle, ive seena harpy eagle in person and ive seen the Philippine eagle, and the Philippine eagle was the most beautiful eagle and very threatening in its appearance. My dad said the Philippine eagle is his favourite eagle out of all eagles he saw, it is the biggest and the most majestic he said. Harpy wouldn’t stand a chance he said.
Harpy picked up my Buick once and carried it across town and dropped it off in the police impound yard.
Philippine Eagle is the most Beautiful, Big Eagle in the world👑👑👑. But i love all the kinds of eagles❤❤❤
Beautiful looking bird/raptor
Harpy Eagles are my favorite big bird. I think they are beautiful and would love to see them in person. ❤
2:49 that’s the coldest lookin bird I’ve ever seen
Looks Japanese lol. Like a samurai or a feudal lord.
@@raz2083 lol hell yea
Look like it say slat when he fly
Looks warm to me. 😂
Imagine meeting him at night and seeing a giant shadow with 2 horns and wings. Good God. Glad I watched this video and at least know they existed before meeting one
Fascinating, and yes, I’d like to see the Shoebill Stork coverage. Well, you asked, thank you !
I love this eagle, my favorite bird.
U are wrong bro
Makes you wonder if Harpy Eagle is really the Moth Man lol
HARPY EAGLE IS MY MOST FAVORITE ANIMAL ON THE PLANET
Stunning Bird.....Up there with my faves......Which include all Owls....And the Shoebill
Their talons are thick and massive as hell. Definitely a big upscale on any other raptor.
A harpy eagles are my favorite birds
Same size as a grizzly s
Super awesome
@@SoloSaga Uh, no.
@@classicgalactica5879 read something... Sometime.
The second you look at a Harpy you know it's a badass predator, damn what an animal!!
What could be better than observing birds 🤔
The harpy is such a beautiful bird
4:54: 197cm? Either something is very wrong or this bird is the size of a door
Their wingspans can measure up to 2.2 m (7.5 ft), while a Harpy Eagle's is roughly 1.8 m (6 feet)
@@laurensvanderveer8367 obviously they are not 1.8m height. They can get up to 1.05 meter height and 2.2 wing span
Length my dude
Yeah, that's a big bird. But I see the confusion, he quoted a max 3 1/2 ' , then 197 cm. Which is more like 6 1/2'. Regardless if he meant height or body length he said it wrong.
What a dumb narrator, not to catch this typo while reading.
Yes, Love the story, very educational !! Enjoyed 😉 Thank you so much !!
Beautiful … Never even know this creature existed…
Same
Man…at 2 feet 19 inches that’s a huge bird 🤯🤯🤯
Hey that chicken looks really big.
Have seen these magnificent birds hunt. They are amazing.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful images and footage of this majestic bird 😊👍🏼! This is one of my favourite animals. Another favourite animal is the lynx. Both these animals have a touch of having jumped out of another world 😊. So beautiful 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
So Beautiful . Nothing like them💓💖
“The continent of America” Uhhhh no
I revere this bird so much that I could never have one as a pet even if I had all the space and money in the world. No. I would treat this bird more like an ally.
Thank you for including centimeters. Much appreciated for us European subscribers =)
"LEGEND MIGHTY EAGLE" is the best one 😂
Thanks for sharing information without a gruesome prey attack as all other videos I’ve come across did (I didn’t watch those).
LoL, I know that's right
That's right, the lions should eat coconuts and the harpy eagles should feed on seeds and berries!
Beautiful thanks for sharing God Gifts❤🎉.
"The birds measure from 2 feet 19 inches - 3 feet 6 inches." So the birds can measure from 3 feet 7 inches - 3 feet 6 inches? There are only 12 inches in a foot sooo?...
What a magnificent animal.
My absolute favorite bird is the Shoebill Stork. They are so cool looking.
new subscriber.
loved this video! never knew harpy eagles existed until now!
my favorite big bird is the shoebill stork, could you do a video on them or perhaps the condor?
thanks!
If only human women tried as hard to keep their families together.
Sadly they would rather just leave and take half of your shit 😢😢😢
@@ActionJackson669 then maybe it's time we stop allowing that to happen.
Lol
Right
Perhaps, but these Eagles don't watch Disney or CNN, or The View...
had the fortune yet sad and conflicting honor of watching one of these birds alive and close, it was in caracas venezuela, there is a park called "Parque Miranda" (formerly Parque del Este) that had one of them in a cage, it was majestic and HUGE, but for all amazing it was to see it up close i was saddened by the fact that such animal was caged in such a small place, most animals are not made to live in those conditions, especially birds these big
Check out the Philippine eagle too. Not many knows about that it exists.
Those are extinct bro. 👍🏻
@@omarwilliams6729 nope!! Check it out again bro. We still have them.
