Burning Forest is actually named so because not of acid, but because your nerves will burn if you try to settle there without acid protection...

Your channel alone made me play the game for 2 months straight and made me go places where I thought were impossible to go to.
I tried this game thrice without suceeding in making a decent colony and quitting due to frustration. Thx to your guides and a lot of preparation it made possible for me to settle in the most backwater zones in Kenshi. I made one next to the crab village without knowing and I was relentlessly attacked for weeks, Beep was lost to fking skin bandits who came after one of the crab tournament fights and kidnapped him while he was down and I swore vengeance on them after allying with the crab raiders.
What a hell of a ride.
    Can't wait for kenshi 2

"Fun" fact about seasons. A year in Kenshi is 100 days. The seasons in Burning Forest are both 50 days long. So, 50 days of the year will be filled with on and off again duststorms and 50 days will be rain/acid rain.
Blood spider reach is pretty exaggerated tbh. (DO NOT USE THE SPIDER RANGE MOD, IT BUFFS SPIDER REACH NOW) It used to be absolutely insane but it was changed to 18 a while ago so it's more tolerable now a days. The issue is like you said the hitbox size. If you use a Crossbow or sometimes a melee weapon your attacks won't connect. Recommend using the "Adjusted Spider Hitbox" mod. I am a Vanilla only nerd in the end so I keep things as is but I will say without that mod a 100 all stat Crossbowman can miss around 80 to 85% of the time. Their "hull size Y" (Height) hitbox is far too low normally. A character aims at certain spots on a units body to hit them. It just so happens that the spot they aim at is not inside the hitbox of the spider which causes this issue.
3:58 Wear armour for real. High to Specialist quality Samurai armour will just delete a ton of the damage the spiders deal as a majority of it is piercing (Harpoon) damage.
I LOVE Assassins Rags but I keep Samurai Armour in my bag for anytime I fight animals.
4:54 Avoid using Jittes or blunt weapons in general :P
5:15 To quickly add Spiders do mostly pierce damage. In game mouse over a spider when it is in combat with you. If you go to where the weapon skill is normally shown you can see its total damage. I'll use a Blood spider from a run of mine recently as an example... It showed...
    75 damage.
Mousing over str said 7 of that damage is blunt.
Mousing over Dex said 21 of that damage is cut.
Which means the remaining 47 or so is pierce damage.
The way pierce damage works is imagine until an attack deals OVER the harpoon resist of the armour, you will take no cut damage from that damage type and only the stun damage from the CRE of the armour.
Let's say you have High quality Samurai armour. And let's use the Spider I clicked on in my run.
    39% Blunt resist.
    55% Cut resist.
    90% Cut Eff
    54 Harpoon resist.
If your High quality Samurai Armour protects you from a hit it'll turn...
7 blunt damage into 4.27 stun.
21 cut damage into 9.45 cut and 1.155 stun
47 pierce damage into 2.585 stun.
Turning the total damage of 75 damage into 9.45 + 8.01
If the pierce damage was instead cut damage you would have taken an additional 21.15 cut damage. But because it's pierce damage it is just removed.
Upside of Burning Forest is it was my main base back in the day. The Blood Spiders age up VERY VERY fast (1 day) and if you play with a small team many would-be raiders will encounter the spiders. In fact I had lights set up in front of my base so at night if raiders came by the spiders would see them from further away.
Nice review of my favorite looking zone :)

I settled the Burning Forest. Named my settlement Hash Pipe. The hardest part was setting up, settled in the middle right of the map between an iron ruin and a copper node. Had to cart all my materials in by Garru with my fastest engineer. Raided by blood spiders constantly. Then I put up the walls and we kept getting dust bandit raids but no spiders ever attacked the gate. I had no one manning turrets and that might be why. A lot of the times the dust bandits would get attacked by the spiders then get eaten. All my dudebros were clad in dustcoats and fogmasks. I actually missed the rain when it left. The wind is extremely loud.

I settled here just by chance. And I have not regretted it tbh. It's awesome. I've been sworn enemies w the holy nation since day 1 and the dust bandits since I moved and the acid rain is such a blessing bc they just about melt just standing around outside and breaking in whenever they try to come raid you.

I'm glad you finally made this one :)
There is a few flat spots around the zone that are not big but seem like they were leveled out specifically for putting a small base. The spot I like is near border to bonefields. Anybody working outside the walls should either be a skeleton or a master of stealth. If no walls then things can get messy. Great zone for mid game excitement. Spiders are actually pretty nice for training

been streaming kenshi for like a week straight now. Been living in the Hidden Forest and it’s been very peaceful, aside from the Cannibal hordes. Joining up with the Flotsam Ninjas could help with raids but will make enemies with Holy Nation. Most of the time during HN Assault, I run away to the Flotsam Village. So far so good, sitting between Tech Hunter’s Worlds End the Village. It’s a great place for new players.

There are two other good spots I know of. My favorite is center of east side by bonefields. Small plateau with large tree, copper and small hard to see iron node of excellent quality and another copper and Iron (same place I usually put a well) near by. Easy to wall off with the only drawback is you have to go off plateau for water when not raining. The second one is 1/3 down from top of zone and main road and 1/3 from east side. Fairly flat with buildable small plateau in center area near Iron ship and cliffs facing west.

I would like to recommend a pretty decent location in the northern Great Desert. It is the large beach north-east of the southern Distant Hive Village, or north-west of Port North.
+++ The main appeal is a large, pretty flat plain suitable for building a large city.
If you look at the map, you can even see how flat it is.
++ It has iron, tons of stone, some copper and a little bit of water.
+ Allows for easy trading in the eastern UC and has the hive village nearby. It also fits well into the existing territory, if you become a UC ally.
+ Skimmers and wild Garru as meat sources
+ Weak raids and enemies, never felt like I was in any true danger
-- Very far away from all the other cities, which makes trading more time-consuming
    - Requires hydroponics to fully enjoy
    - Taxes (if neutral to UC)
    - No natural defenses like acid or fire

If you have a plank and/or fragment axe, I think, you get AOE attacks too. I remember watching Chesan (I think) do a squad v squad of Samurai vs HN and the HN won, not because they had better armor or weapons, but because their weapons hit multiple targets with each swing.

Any chance you might make a video on the Grey Desert? I think it's an interesting place because if you become an ally of the Traders Guild you can position yourself so as to not get raided or taxed by anyone except Dust Bandits, and even then you are sheltered by acid and fire in every direction between you and them. But I haven't tried it yet.
