Lets not forget the fact that DJI offered Gopro a contract using Gopro's camera on their drones but they didnt accept it, remember when Gopro released the karma? It backfired right? And now, dji is catching up on the action camera field(which is CURRENTLY ruled by Gopro), if only Gopro accepted that offer, PERFECT COMBINATION!
Same like when Yahoo rejected Google's offer at the very beginning.

I own the Action 2, and last year I remember most reviewers felt it created SLIGHTLY more detailed 4k than the hero 10 (which seems to be as detailed as the 11). But everyone has noted the detail in the action 3 is far worse than the hero 10/11. Can you confirm the action 2 is actually sharper than the action 3? Or am I missing something here? Thanks for the video, you do probably the best device to device comparison videos.

Do you recommend the GoPro as a good option for recording videos of people moving very rapidly in the same place, from a distance similar to that of people who dance on TikTok? (I would make more elaborate videos where maybe I'll be a bit further away from the camera).

One thing that nobody seems to care about but it's a huge advantage for the DJI is that it has a constant white balance feature for underwater shots. 10m or 16m is mostly the same because you can use a case, but the auto whitebalance is a game changer if you are a diver and want to use one of these cameras for real action.
What do you mean by constant white balance? That you can also set the white balance manually and thus fix it? That's also possible on the GoPro. On the GoPro, with Native, there is even a feature that allows the camera to capture more information in order to be able to correct the white balance better later. But it's true that you can set the white balance manually on the Action 3 much more precisely.

@@tcvideosennistexas That doesn't make sense...I have a 7, 9, and the 11, and they all work just fine...sometimes the 9 is a little glitchy and freezes, but I just remove the batterty and try again. Hope you get your 10 sorted out. Thanks buddy!

Not needing that stupid media mod or external mic adapter for the DJI is huge, it just needs a usb c to 3.5mm that’s a huge win in my book

Wow thanks for this video. The image quality of the GoPros are impressive. And even though you like the softness of the DJI when taking a selfie video… I just thought it was impressive how well the GoPro picks up all the details of your skin texture.
Kinda neat how the DJI has longer battery runtime… but I prefer the superior image quality of the GoPro and don’t mind carrying extra batteries. Batteries are rather inexpensive after all.

I would say that the DJI has the more user friendly and intuitive menus in most cases.
The DJI is also supposed to get 10 bit colour in a firmware upgrade.
But I understand you can only test what is available at the time.🙂
10bit is only if you color grade. It will be d-cinerlike mode. But yes, on a tripod, it will give nice footage.

Thanks for the excellent review. I upgraded yesterday, before seeing your review, to the Hero 11, with much hesitation, because I heard only everywhere that the Action 3 would be the better camera. However, I own the Action 2 as well as the Hero 10 and I found out that, despite glorifying reviews of the Action 2, the Hero 10 is a much more reliable camera for me, I can pick it up after weeks of non-use and it is ready to shoot whereas with the Action 2 I have the problem that I first have to charge the battery. Also, I had found in the past that many of the settings I want to set on the Action 2, are simply not available, whereas they were clearly available and easy to set up on the Hero 10. Equally I found the picture quality of the GoPro Hero 10 to be very good. Also, every time I set the Action 2 up for recording outside my car (while driving) I found that the Action 2 shut off after about 5 to 10 minutes for no explainable reason, something that the Hero 10 never did, it recorded until the battery ran out, every time, reliably. After viewing your review today I feel much better about having purchased yesterday the Hero 11. Thank you very much!
PS. I also didn’t appreciate that the Action 2 has lost more than 50% of its value and is being sold extremely cheaply right now.

Thank you. An excellent comparison. I was sent both an Action 2 and 3 to look at and I just can’t get on with the focus/detail that I’m getting from them both. They lack a little sharpness and pop less than GoPro footage. At first I thought, ‘Great, less in camera sharpening’, but in post, I couldn’t get the Actions to the same level as the GoPros. That and the horrible looking softness on selfies (as you show here) has had me returning to my Pockets!
Hi Ian, thanks for your feedback. Yes, I think the same - initially you get the impression that the Action 3 takes great shots. But the problem with the minimum focusing distance is significant. Also, as I said, the shots often look muddy and there is just a lack of detail.
@@MountMediaChannel This Action 3 in the video is total out of focus. you can see that in the skin tones shots 6:57 ! This is due to the Lens screwed to near to the sensor. you can screw the lens around 10° to 15° more out and this will solved it. not the firmware update, this ist just a post sensor processing to a already bad focus image with artificial sharpness. i really like this camera, but i had to send it back and wait almost 2 months to get a real good one with perfect focus. with the new firmware i´m happy now. i dont miss my gopro 8. it is maybe behind the 11, but i like the special features and the snap on machanism, which is ver good on drones. you have always the same angle. esxcahning cam is done in 2 seconds.

Hi Werner, thanks a lot for your test. I change to the Action 3 because of the many errors of the GoPro. I have a GoPro 8 Black with klicking in the tone, sometimes the camera didn't start and sometimes the camera didn't shut down. As I find in UA-cam from other users the problem is also in Action 11. I'm very angry about this - why did GoPro not solve this problems?

The OA3 can essentially use any USB C external mic , only issue is using a external mic with a external battery bank at same time.
Can the gopro use an external mic and external battery bank at the same time?

Great review, thanks, but the merits of 11 are questionable. The extended dynamic range resembles phone-HDR and synthetics in the image even more than in 10, the increased intensity of the red channel adds a shade of magenta to neutral colors. I wanted to buy 11, but in every videoreview the pink shade is noticeable and it's a little annoying + skinton defects... now I'm leaning towards 10 (

I’ve watched it because Hero 10 just got on discount where I live (240€) and it’s hard to justify Hero 11 (400€) in this case.
I know I am losing some things like 10 bit color & the Enduro battery, but the battery I can buy out of the saved money, and since I barely have any idea of color grading, I guess for starters Hero 10 is enough!

saya punya keduanya dji action3 10 bit dan gopro hero 10 . jujur kualitas gambar dari gopro hero 10 tidak bisa untuk di tandingi oleh dji action 3. gopro lebih tajam dan detail terlihat alami.., saya berada asia tenggara di negara dimana banyak sekali pohon warna hijau dan ketika menggunakan dji action 3 semua warna daun jadi terlihat palsu dan saturasinya berlebihan dan tidak tajam. sedangkan gopro bisa menangani warna hijau dengan baik karna ada profil flat yang tidak terlalu flat. salah satu kelebihan dji action3 hanyalah baterai sedikit lebih tahan lama. tapi pilihan baterai gopro ada banyak dan murah..saya rasa baterai tidak pernah jadi masalah. kesimpulanya gopro masih menjadi raja kamera portable bukan hanya untuk aksi untuk vlog pun sangat bisa di andalkan.., jika kamu sudah membeli dji action3 itu juga tidak salah hanya sedikit kurang di kualitas gambar tapi bukan yang seperti kamera murahan.
Great video! I know your test did not have them overheating, but literally nothing matters if they have a tendency to overheat (GoPro). I'd rather have slightly inferior video quality which nobody will notice and have the camera work. I've been so let down over the years buying overheating junk gopros. For their over inflated price for what they are in the first place, the overheating is not acceptable.

Great review, I still think the Dji is way better with the menu system. For me the action 3 is the best camera, and with 10 bit coming soon is gonna be a easy choice. Only wish Dji could film in 5K.

Overheating test with a fan to cool them down? Are you nuts? Maybe put them into a fridge and see if they don't overheat? No wonder you have no issues with overheating if you're action filming/vlogging, pulling a large 230V powered fan alongside.

Both are really good cameras - the Action 3 had a focusing issue - but it should be solved with newer cameras

not bad for the OA3 considering that its cheaper than the H10 and was releases at the same time, though the H11 is newer I think the OA3 would be a good choice if you dont care much abt video quality in dark and bright areas even though that is still important

I trust dji in terms of drones, but i trust go pro in terms of action camera. Gopro action cam is tested both quality and durability. I still have my hero 7 until now which had been thru a lot of challenging situations and weathers and recently just acquired hero 10.
Such a pitty that DJI has used the same Ambarella H2 series chip in the action 3 as in their previous two actions cams. Gopro's GP2 chip is simply better.
Not one single review has tried to use a USB C splitter to see if a mic and power bank can be used at the same time.
why? skin tone plus 2 for osmo, i think you will plus for gopro, osmo blurred, gopro real
great review.. but i must say that in other gopro 11 videos the quality of video is much better then in this video. it's almost like SD quality here.

For mountain biking, id go with dji for better overheating and battery rating.

so,,,for those of 'us' who paid a high price for a go pro 10,,,,and now a year later it overheats in any situation and will film for no more that 8 minutes on 4k-30 settings , do you know or have heard of any way to get it to 'work normally ' or any place that than 'repair' it?

Overall I find this test pretty throughout and unbiased. Not without issues however. I think the battery life is quite an important topic, on par with image quality yet your pointing scheme does not do any justice for Action 3. You give Hero 11 +1 point over the Hero 10 for lasting 7 minutes more, yet only another +1 point for the Action 3 for its extra God knows how many minutes ("over 2 hours"). That is at least 35-40% more, which deserves at least 2 or 3 points extra over Hero 11. Same goes to the no-fan overheating test: 23 min vs more than 55? That is more than double the time! It does not seem fair to give points that way, especially compared to other, less minor topics with smaller differences. Still, the outcome would be the same, I guess...
What about FW stability? GoPros are not regarded to be very stable. I do not have any of them, just asking...
Image quality - based on this video - is better on the GoPros though. Even if it is a bit over sharpened, it can be corrected in post. It is harder to get details back from a smudgy image. Also I do not really care, but the focus distance issue of the Action 3 can be a no go for many, because of vlogging. The compression quality of the Action 3 is also a bit of a letdown.
Still I likely to go with Action 3 as my first action cam (for biking). Not completely made up my mind yet. Other candidates could be InstaOne (preferably the 1" version) and Sony RX0 II, but both of them are pricey with the Sony being a bit outdated and lacking in the "action" part (focus, stabilization).
Hi Adam, thanks for your detailed feedback. Yes, of course the awarding of points is very subjective - it's just to make the video a bit more interesting. The focus problem of the Osmo 3 is quite annoying me at the moment and I feel it worse now than at the beginning. I will clarify this again with DJI and address it in another video.

I tested a November 2022 batch, yes it is definitely not focused close up or in the distance, the image is not just soft, but not clear at all. No matter what other reviewers said. I tested it for 2 days, and I returned it. Which means quality control issue, some good some bad, that's it. I do not want to go back and forth with DJI Customer Support, which would means weeks if not months.
@@domTT i went trough it and have a perfect one. fpv friend had fixed the lens diy because he went to holiday with his quad. he has the same picture like my new one. its not cool, but if you dont have two left hands, its fixed in 20 minutes or less. but i agree, its not a move you expect from DJI at ALL. 🙂
Im selling my Hero 10, all 5 batteries, 3rd party battery charger and other GoPro stuff and buying the OA3 combo for $429. I really disliked the media mod, in fact to me it almost felt like a money grab from GoPro. It made using the camera for me overly complicated with little improvement in the sound quality. Removing the battery with the MM on is simply a PITA, much more than it should be. Sold it a few months ago. I plan to use my DJI wireless mic system plugged straight into the camera. DJI knows how to design a much better user interface, menu system, etc., in my opinion. Some aspects of the video quality might be ever so slightly better with the H11 but im willing to give that up for all the other things the OA3 offers.
If you want to use the Action 3 for vlogging, I would think twice - mimimum focusing distance is a problem.

Regarding the skin tones : i think it's a matter of personal taste and giving the osmi more points for blurring the face doesn't seem so objective. Just my opinion.
I think you should do another video with the Action 3's new update. And you should get an exchange from DJI for a camera with the focus issue fixed. I'd love to see how it matches up with all the issues fixed.
The camera was replaced after lengthy discussions. Probably another comparison will come

I think your side by side comparison of the 2 cameras is one of the best I've seen, so I'd love to see an unbiased opinion now that most issues have been resolved. Have you had issues with overheating on your GoPro?
Extremely great comparison, awesome video. I was using Hero 9 and just ordered Hero 11. I was double minded while ordering Hero 11 as I wanted Action 3 initially. But As I had Hero 9, so I thought I know the settings of GoPro so I should go with the Hero 11. After watching this video, glad I placed order for Hero 11 :D

I bought the DJI hoping I could just save to the phones SD card turns out the dji editing app doesn't allow using a sd card just the phones internal storage so unless I buy a laptop the camera is useless

Ottimo test, completo ed esaustivo; unica cosa al min 5:08 sembra che la hero 11 abbia un FOV maggiore in Hyperview in orizzontale ma cosi a tutti gli effetti non è...in hyperview con stabilizzatore spento entrambe hero 10 e 11 sono rispettivamente 121° e 122° quindi praticamente identiche. Con stabilizzatore acceso entrambe 113° in orizzontale. A parte questa precisazione ottima recensione come sempre :)

Hero 11 is cheaper for me (I have gopro subscription) the bundle price for the Action 3 is $40. more than the Hero 11 Bundle.
Hahaha funny cause before the dijo osmo 3 came out the regular price for the go 11 was $499 just for the camera right now withe the subscription and lest said a bundle you cans buy it for $399 with a 1 year of GoPro subscription.. that's the fear for a. Big camera company when something good product coming out for a big competition. Needs to lower the prices.. 🤣🤣
You are wrong mate ... the rubber ring is to unscrew the lens, its not meant to be kept on the dji osmo 3.
all the moving images of the gopro are unrealistic. its not what the eye sees. what you complete have wrong is the shooting in changing light conditions and bad weather the action 3 does a really decent job with the new light sensor. d cinelike profile has colors spot on.. and sharpness common we all change it in post production. plus the cycling you do can barely be called an action shot. go on a moto, the dji kicks gopros ass as to how realistic the footage is. image quality is good on all those cameras.. honestly this review is for camera purist not for actual action camera users... i still use the action 1's more on 1080p then i do the gopro10 image quality causes issues in post production gopro footage renders for hours and hours that makes the better image quality almost unusable
No, you are wrong mate. Halfway down page 6 of the manual, Osmo state that the rubber ring is to dissipate heat.
Also, if you take selfie shots during your ‘realistic’ activities, you’ll find that the GoPro focus close up and the Action 3 doesn’t. The close focus is not good.
Distance shots are less focused than the GoPro as well. It can’t be sharpened in post either. For instance, still shots of trees gives you square blocks of green on the Osmo where the GoPro shows more of the shape.
The Action 3 is essentially a camera, so camera specific criteria must be looked at in order to evaluate it. Not throw it around and state, it’s an action cam and is more realistic! I beg to differ.
A good action cam has a good, sharp picture, good stabilisation and essentially, all the good things that the better cameras have… colour, contrast etc. so it is basically a camera!

@@iancraig yeah no shit and a complaint was it was hard to get the lens off the first time.. the rubber ring wont stay on mate.. but you will find that out soon enough. the lens also doesnt get hot, and rubber wont conduct heat

these functions of the cameras are insignificant functions of Oliva when I use editing. as long as the stabilizer works well. I have a Hero 10 and have been very satisfied.
6:56 Im sorry but the action 3 skin tones looked washed out and flat to me. additionally the action 3 could not even focus on him. However the action 3's stabilization in low light is very impressive.
