Thanks for the review. It’s worth to mention that if you are planning to use multiple cameras DJI has the time code sync, which saves time in post. If the quality matches action 2 I would not hesitate. Biking season starts soon and I think I will invest in action 3 ;)
I'm sure I will get called a DJI shill for this video but here it is: I used both the second action 3 I purchased and the one DJI sent me to make this video to make sure I didn't get a "special one". In my previous comparison I called out all the issues the action 3 had and got called a gopro shill then because I didn't go in-depth enough about the features of the action 3, so I definitely go in to more of the ways the action 3 beats out gopro in this one, If you plan to buy and action 3 look at the build date and test it. if you get one that doesn't have good focus return it and try and get one that has a recent build date (Jan 2023 or later). Whatever you think I hope this video helps you make a more informed decision about which camera might be better for you and your needs. Cheers
Hi Jake, You can’t make everyone happy. Makes me remember a decade ago, I build out a factory 20yrs out and company said “why the hell did you think so far.” After 10th year, we had huge demands and volume and the same boss and company said “why they hell didn’t you think 40yrs ahead!” Good video as always! I’m still on the GP camp not as a fan but for what you mentioned in 1st video, IQ and dynamic range. For battery life, DJI doesn’t have GPS so turning it off on GP and see if it has same run time. I prefer to use an integrated tripod + powerbank that can be used for any action cam to have continuous recording than swapping out batteries. I thought I saw some video somewhere someone mentioned that DJI will expose for the subject like vloggers but blow out the background but with GP, it will not do this as it exposes subject and background the same. If that’s true, then it depends on which use cases you need and go with what works for you. Seems like lots of people have been burned by GP on userbility, reliability, and pleasing colors to the eyes (without having to manually adjusting white balance) so DJI achieves this but overlook IQ and DR. So to each of its own. It would be good to have a buyer’s guide with criterias such as: - userbility and reliability: go with A3 - IQ and DR: go with GP11 - price: that’s a tough one as it’s not apples for apples - reusing accessories: go with GP11 since you can reuse the ones from GP9/10. With DJI A1 is completely different from A2 which is completely different from A3. No backward compatibility of accessories which is not mentioned much and adds up quickly. One of the reason why I stay away from Insta360 where I have so much accessories and when not organized, when I need them, can’t find what I need; - app: DJI allows to continue to be on while recording while GP turns it off but it has Quick app for mobile editing - fpv: GP has Reelsteady for buttery stabilization It really depends what the use cases you need and what experience you have with the brand, good or bad and if there are workarounds as it seems most are user errors that blame it on the brand. Partially true and false as some use action cams as a studio cam so all waterproof tiny form factor cameras will overheat when used indoor for long form. If that’s the case, turn off BT, GPS, wifi and shoot 4/5K 24/25/30, not 4/5K 60/120 and expect it not to overheat. And if so, use a cooling fan used on smartphones and it will not overheat even at 4k120. I tried to do it with the A2 and couldn’t get it to overheat. Keep up the good work!
I went with the action 3 myself. I had DJIs gimbal and the mini 2 so the action 3 was a no brainer for me especially with the 3 batteries and better cold weather performance. It is a 9/22 build but it seems to be focused to me. We will see how it holds up
At the end of the day, I'd choose an action camera that won't overheat fast and that will give me more recording time and footage. It's clearly the Osmo Action 3 for me. Plus the wider fov is a bonus!
Great comparison. GoPro maybe on the #1 spot but I chose the OA3 because it's cheaper compared to Hero 11 and the magnetic mount is just pure love when transferring the camera from my helmet to the selfie stick without stopping for a long time turning those locking screws.
Jake, great review but I feel your initial review was a bit better. Let's ask this way. I have a GoPro 10 which I am tired of its overheating and battery issue. I was thinking to get the GoPro 11 but after this, I am wondering if Action 3 is a better option. If you had to choose one of these cameras, which one would you choose? I mostly do outside, adventures, nature, discoveries. So Action stuff basically.
I think probably for what you are doing the action 3 will be slightly better. I have had way less issues with my gopro 11 than I did with the hero 10 but it definitely overheats faster than the action 3 does
Love the review. It's fun seeing places near me as I'm in Alaska as well. I've hated the battery life in the cold with GoPro. I was looking at the the DJI camera and will probably pick one up. Keep up the awesome work and maybe we will see each other out in Alaska.
Here’s the only problem I have with this video, DJI have been doing a huge marketing push. They’ve sent the action three out to a bunch of creators that they normally don’t just because they’re trying to push the action three after the whole focus issue. The focus issue has been 100% verified that it is a hardware issue. Now the action three is a great camera if and only if you get one without the hardware problem. They’re pushing out the updated versions where they fixed the problem at the factory to all these content creators and they’re saying hey look it’s fixed, it’s great. But the problem that I have ran into four times now is if you buy one at Best Buy or you order from DJI you’re going to more than likely get one of the old stock ones and it’s going to add a whole bunch of artificial Sharpening to try to fix the focus issue on these older cameras. You just can’t reliably know if you’re going to order one and get one that has been built recently that doesn’t have the out of focus issue or if you’re gonna get the good one. I have went through four of them and I have just given up on it until maybe another year or if they come out with an action four and they’ll have it fixed. I do prefer the user interface of DJI over GoPro. In fact, I don’t even like GoPro’s, but I’ve been forced to use my GoPro now and my action 2 because of all the problems with the action three. Anyone who watches a lot of UA-cam to try to figure out if they fixed the action three will see that DJI is pushing out free cameras with talking points to these creators and they’re all falling in line, saying hey, this is great. In your new review, you’re saying all good things about the DJI camera and you’re not really saying anything about the GoPro camera so you’re just basically listing talking points from DJI as they’ve sponsored the video. Which is kind of bothersome because all of the content creators are doing this. Me being a very small content creator, and having purchased a whole bunch of these action threes I have found the reality is you’re actually probably going to get one that’s not fixed.

So you expect an company to not take efforts to sell thier product, if they have fixed this focus issues then what's wrong in hiring all these content creators, nowadays many viewers are aware of these tactics, so many take reviews with pinch of salt. But yes, sometimes reference or word of mouth recommendation are dangerous, i have seen many riders in my group purchasing GP11 even after i informed them about flaws of GP11 such as overheating, abruptly shutting down, audio problems etc, they they bought it & now hating it. Atleast DJI & Insta360 are creating some options that GoPro banking on thier Brand Name
@@amitkrupal1234 I expect a company to say hey we messed up, recall all of the faulty units, then only sell fixed ones. But they are not doing that, they are still selling the faulty ones. I know that GoPro has issues. That’s why I use an action 2. It’s basically the action 3 in a different form factor.
Another great review Jake; based largely on functionality I would give the edge to the Action3. Your original review (and those of most others) gave an edge to the GoPro when it came to photo and video performance (focus issue aside - and now resolved). Not that the Action3 was bad; it’s just that the GP was slightly better often. Still the case? Suspect so. I think either would be great, but love how the DJI doesn’t require so much in the way of add ons, so it may also simply be better value.
Yeah I still think GoPro has the better image quality overall partly due to the 5.3k sensor and partly due to the way gopro handles artifacts and exposure. I definitely think DJi has the better value based on the initial price and the ability to use so many other audio input options
Thanks, you may have sold me... I have the Hero 9, and am quite happy with the resolution, but the Action 3 may add enough versatility to go for it. If you mentioned it, maybe I missed it, but can the Action 3 be used solidly with a finger mount, or is the magnetic the only option?
It's not just magnetic - there are two also "solid" locking clips there that you need to unlock in order to remove the camera from the mount. In the review it's suggested that "magnetic" mount may not be secure. But again - it's not just magnetic! This is what I'm wondering about in regard to riding motorcycles with an action camera, so please let's not confuse basic stuff in the reviews! If it hasn't fallen off - and I haven't heard even 1 reviewer saying that the mount would fail - then it means that it works as intended. The only watch out may be securing it properly. Apparently if you don't push the camera, the clips don't lock in and then it may be magnets all alone, but this is not how it should be installed. I hope this helps and clears the confusion.
Just an FYI for those who have one, the Rode VideoMic GO II will also work with the Action 3 using the USB-C port on the mic and a USB-C to USB-C cable when using the cold shoe on the PGY Tech or SmallRig cage. .The only downside is if you use the foam or fur windscreen it can show up in your frame.
It's a clear winner for me, DJI all the way. This is what I love about competition, it forces the once leading and complacent company to actually start innovating.
Great video 💪, just one correction. DJI OA 3 have a 360 horizont steady as the gopro, you just need to dial down to 2.7k 16:9 😉 up to 60fps in these settings.
for overall yes but the action is tuned to make sure faces stay brighter and so it will definitely over expose sky and sun if there is a face in the frame
GoPro 9 got same 1720mah battery as GoPro 11!!! But does GoPro 11 got too much advanced features than GoPro 9! Does it means that GoPro 11 gonna. Battery drain faster than GoPro 9?! And do you think it's better off to buy GoPro 9 in July 2023 or put out extra $150 and go for GoPro 11?! Your thoughts please?
You mentioned all the good stuff about osmo and the bad things about gopro :)) This is not fair, gopro has way better image quality and osmo has focus issues - this are 2 main things that I would say to anyone who's searching for a new action camera. You're biased in your review and I don't consider this as a fair one. Your previous videos were cool tho.
you should watch my other comparison between these two cameras where I did exactly that. In both recent versions of the action 3 I found the focus issue to be fixed and yes GoPro still has better image quality overall but it's very close and more a matter of flavor
I have watched about 10 or these DJI - GoPro comparison videos tonight but nobody has talked about the wind noise reduction comparison. That is the biggest piece of info I need to decide which one to buy. :(
I never considered audio but I can see where the Action 3 has a huge advantage. The entry level package for the Action 3 also seems like a great deal. I'm kind of surprised most people don't review the subscription deal from GoPro. I get that no one wants to be tied to a subscription, but given the price decrease, it seems like a good deal.
I have and do use the subscription plan from gopro and it definitely has it's benefit for sure, online footage storage is huge, I have only had to use the replacement once though
I suggested this over on Flytpath too but filming a how-to needing multiple takes, I used the voice command on the 11 and didn’t have to shut it off. Maybe that’s a workaround for now. Hopefully a firmware update corrects the issue you speak of when needing to change settings after starting to record.
You mean you think I didn’t test to see if the focus issue was fixed??? Watch the video. I tested between 2 cameras. The one DJI sent and a second one I bought both had the latest firmware and neither one was out of focus… I don’t really care if you buy one or the other. Likely one of them will work better for what you need it for. Cheers

Some of the things you said the gopro loses on you either got wrong, or ignored issues of the DJI action, or were totally ignorant to gopro's competitive features (ie zoom) 1. you stated you like the default colors of the DJI action more, fine, but why do you not mention that it also blows out the highlights much more and the image quality of the gopro is still better (as you mentioned in your last review)? For example you went into detail about the importance of higher fps and resolution for gopro's slo-mo for the image quality... this didnt change so why do you not spend the same amount of time talking about GoPros better image in almost all aspects when compared to the Dji? 2. The gimmicky modes the action 3 has really does not do much unless you are not super knowledgeable on how to set the right settings for an action sports video etc etc. 3. The gopro HAS ZOOM. I am not sure how you got this information incorrect, but you did, it has a digital zoom. Also you mention its field of view on the linear + horizon lock setting (its most FOV restricted one) and compared it to the DJI camera's setting that technically does not even compete with the gopro here. Gopro included this for when you need horizon lock, not for when you need a wide FOV, so of course on the horizon lock setting the resulting video will be heavily cropped... why don't you compare the "hyperview" setting vs DJI's largest FOV? Why do you select only the GoPro's most narrow (designed without maximum FOV in mind) and what I assume is DJI's most narrow (however lacking full 360 degree horizon lock) settings to compare and state in general that the gopro loses here? 4. I feel like you went over a lot of the DJI's unique design features, but ignored everything the GoPro has to offer in its unique "nice to haves," why? 5. previous video you went into detail about the focus issue, here you did not mention it directly, and just said it was "fixed" well people who get unlucky and buy one of the DJI's with the hardware focus issue cant "fix" it without getting a replacement, so this MUST be mentioned to inform your viewers of this issue and the only way to deal with it I am not calling you a shill or anything, but I do find it weird you are markedly more positive when DJI sponsors the video, and you fail to mention some of the "wins" gopro had in your previous review, and how you plainly got some of the information about gopro's stuff incorrect/mischaracterized edit: clarified point 1 a little bit and added point 5
It's important to me that the device has a HDMI output so I can view it on an external monitor during recording. I don't think the DJI has an HDMI output. And the GoPro Hero 11 requires a module that (according to some Amazon reviews) can be flaky. Any suggestions on a GoPro type camera with a built-in HDMI output? Thanks, Rowby
I don't think there are any on the market currently that have that option years ago Sony had an X3000 action camera that had a mini HDMI out, you could also look at the sony RX0 II

Have been disappointed with GOPRO in not being able to get the endura batteries if you live off the road system in Alaska.They sold us a subscription and then found out they don't ship to Alaska.
Hey can you please tell me which memory card you are using for Osmo action 3? I am using SanDisk extreme 128gb UHS-1 micro sd card. But everytime I start the camera, it says "memory card speed slow. Shooting may stop." And the shooting stops after 20seconds or so. I am not sure what should solve this issue. Can you please advise?

Eh 0A3 can't do external mic and power bank at same time, sent mine back for that and the focus is soft compared to the hero 11. They should have just updated the 0A1 instead of sticking the guts of the OA2 In a new case.
I will only use an action camera for when I go freediving... So a waterproof case that has the underwater filters is essential for good footage... Extra batteries is gonna be a must have in this situation... It is really great that DJI offers a competition to price and always keep rivals upping specs... Gopro knows exactly what the ppl want they just go about it in a way which will milk the most out of customers
Osmo Action 3 is a great camera but I hope that soon there will be an update to improve video quality, dynamic range , gyro stabilization, vertical mode like in gopro, some extra enhancement features. This is now a real competition for gopro as soon as they release with a larger sensor and at the current price, I'm looking forward to it. Go pro had no competitor they release a new model every year and every year each of these models has the same issues so i am with dji i hope they don't disappoint.
The truth is that DJI are taking over the market. Everyone went to Go pro because they were pretty much the first company to make quality action cameras and there really was no competition but while I'm sure they will up their game to match many of the features that DJI have, it may be too late as DJI just seem to be one step ahead. However, I will throw another camera into the reckoning and that's the insta 360 which not only has brilliant image quality (would like to see a comparison against the Go pro and DJI) but also saves a LOT of time in post edit, as it records 360 footage and you just choose what you like. I think if anyone is going to be strong competition against DJI it's the insta 360.
I am sending my Osmo Action 3 back. My gopro hero 9 looks better. I just bought it and the soft focus is crazy, looked at the manufacture date 9-22.. they are still sending the bad batches as of april 1
Great video Jake. I wish that the 2 Action 3's I got were not out of focus as I really wanted to love this camera. I "might" swing by my local BestBuy and see what date ranges they have, as they say, 3rd time is the charm 😀
yeah I saw your video and was kind of surprised, the later builds definitely seem to have been "fixed" by DJI, maybe they needed to re-align some of their assembly machines or something. I hope you get a good one because it is definitely a good action camera when it works

Erm....It's still out of focus! Look at your 4k 60hz with your gortex jacket check closely, there's a real lack of definition over the go pro. Shame really
@@JakeSloan No way mate, the OA3's focus is soft. I can understand if it was 1080p I was watching but its clear as day! the go pro is pin sharp and the OA is soft, not a huge amount but embarrassing against the go pro. Reference check your beard out in the 4k 60hz clip
Great video!! But...... I have to agree with some of the other comments!! I'm have now been sent 3 bad Osmo Action 3 cameras. 2 from Amazon and one directly from DJI. I've contacted DJI directly and they can't guarantee that I would receive a camera from the good batches of cameras if I ordered through their website. They keep selling bad cameras and it's extremely frustrating since I'm a big supporter of DJI. I currently own the Osmo Action 1, mini 2 drone, and the Ronin sc gimbal(which I loved your video on btw). I will get one someday!!

I have both, use both. User experience? DJI wins hands down. GPH11 needs serious work. Quality - 5.7k ? not any better on quality, just able to crop more. MOST people will go, "cinepro"? not a point. Confession, I only have the pro because it was a gift, so I use it, but wouldn't buy it.
Hello, I’m sorry, but I have set a dislike to this video for one major issue on the dji tools that seems never mentioned! It concerns the dji app that is not available through the app store for android, apperently due to potential security/confidentiality issues. This is the first huge and major flow of dji tools. The second flow is that the dji app, even if you install them from there web site, is not compatible with most of recent phones of major brands and some functionalities like controlling the camera from the phone won’t work.
Great video! I like the un-biased review of both cameras. The reason I chose the GoPro Hero 11 Black over the DJI Oslo Action 3, is that DJI already has my business when it comes to drones. I have had 9 of them dating back to the original Phantom 1. In my opinion, they make the best drones for my needs. GoPro on the other hand is an American company, and supporting an American company is good business in my opinion. Helps keep our economy strong. Plus, they make great action cameras. I have owned 8 of them dating back to the original Hero 960. Thank you for this honest, in depth review.
Thanks Ted, GoPro still reigns supreme when it comes to image quality in my opinion. but I am glad there are options on the market that also challenge gopro to innovate and push the edge of what their cameras can do
I've been interested in the Action 3 since I heard it was announced. I may impulse buy one in time but not until all the out of focus one's are recalled or sold to people that are fine with it.
I have osmo pocket and action since their release ..use them both alot..so i can say couple of times my Action froze completely and didn't recover for some minutes ..this never happend to Pocket tho ..till today i still want to get gopro11 for one reason..sharpness /Dont know how much Action 3 is different from 1 in this regard /but i would love to see an astro video comparison between gp11 and Action 3 ..cheers mate

Nice video. My requirement is using camera as my POV recorder when having a half day event, and I chose GoPro 11. Action 3's battery life is really impressive when you shot timelapse (10s interval, 90% battery, last longer than 24 hours), while GoPro would always just about 2 hours run time even you choose 60s interval. But I find I am more impressed by GoPro's image quality and menu settings. Would be great if they can fix the timelapse power consumption, and preview when recording.
7:27 I still see soft focus or out of focus shot on the subjects face. I have a great OA1, but I upgraded to the 11 knowing that out there, up to this day, the defective ones are still being sold.
unfortunately they are but this one isnt out of focus if you look at the hat there is plenty of detail, its just how it tries to process my beard against my skin color

At the end of the day, I'd choose an action camera that won't overheat fast and that will give me more recording time and footage. It's clearly the Osmo Action 3 for me. Plus the wider fov is a bonus!

Great comparison. GoPro maybe on the #1 spot but I chose the OA3 because it's cheaper compared to Hero 11 and the magnetic mount is just pure love when transferring the camera from my helmet to the selfie stick without stopping for a long time turning those locking screws.

Jake, great review but I feel your initial review was a bit better. Let's ask this way. I have a GoPro 10 which I am tired of its overheating and battery issue. I was thinking to get the GoPro 11 but after this, I am wondering if Action 3 is a better option.
If you had to choose one of these cameras, which one would you choose? I mostly do outside, adventures, nature, discoveries. So Action stuff basically.
I think probably for what you are doing the action 3 will be slightly better. I have had way less issues with my gopro 11 than I did with the hero 10 but it definitely overheats faster than the action 3 does
Love the review. It's fun seeing places near me as I'm in Alaska as well. I've hated the battery life in the cold with GoPro. I was looking at the the DJI camera and will probably pick one up. Keep up the awesome work and maybe we will see each other out in Alaska.

Here’s the only problem I have with this video, DJI have been doing a huge marketing push. They’ve sent the action three out to a bunch of creators that they normally don’t just because they’re trying to push the action three after the whole focus issue. The focus issue has been 100% verified that it is a hardware issue. Now the action three is a great camera if and only if you get one without the hardware problem. They’re pushing out the updated versions where they fixed the problem at the factory to all these content creators and they’re saying hey look it’s fixed, it’s great. But the problem that I have ran into four times now is if you buy one at Best Buy or you order from DJI you’re going to more than likely get one of the old stock ones and it’s going to add a whole bunch of artificial Sharpening to try to fix the focus issue on these older cameras. You just can’t reliably know if you’re going to order one and get one that has been built recently that doesn’t have the out of focus issue or if you’re gonna get the good one. I have went through four of them and I have just given up on it until maybe another year or if they come out with an action four and they’ll have it fixed. I do prefer the user interface of DJI over GoPro. In fact, I don’t even like GoPro’s, but I’ve been forced to use my GoPro now and my action 2 because of all the problems with the action three. Anyone who watches a lot of UA-cam to try to figure out if they fixed the action three will see that DJI is pushing out free cameras with talking points to these creators and they’re all falling in line, saying hey, this is great. In your new review, you’re saying all good things about the DJI camera and you’re not really saying anything about the GoPro camera so you’re just basically listing talking points from DJI as they’ve sponsored the video. Which is kind of bothersome because all of the content creators are doing this. Me being a very small content creator, and having purchased a whole bunch of these action threes I have found the reality is you’re actually probably going to get one that’s not fixed.

So you expect an company to not take efforts to sell thier product, if they have fixed this focus issues then what's wrong in hiring all these content creators, nowadays many viewers are aware of these tactics, so many take reviews with pinch of salt. But yes, sometimes reference or word of mouth recommendation are dangerous, i have seen many riders in my group purchasing GP11 even after i informed them about flaws of GP11 such as overheating, abruptly shutting down, audio problems etc, they they bought it & now hating it. Atleast DJI & Insta360 are creating some options that GoPro banking on thier Brand Name
@@amitkrupal1234 I expect a company to say hey we messed up, recall all of the faulty units, then only sell fixed ones. But they are not doing that, they are still selling the faulty ones. I know that GoPro has issues. That’s why I use an action 2. It’s basically the action 3 in a different form factor.

Another great review Jake; based largely on functionality I would give the edge to the Action3. Your original review (and those of most others) gave an edge to the GoPro when it came to photo and video performance (focus issue aside - and now resolved). Not that the Action3 was bad; it’s just that the GP was slightly better often. Still the case? Suspect so. I think either would be great, but love how the DJI doesn’t require so much in the way of add ons, so it may also simply be better value.
Yeah I still think GoPro has the better image quality overall partly due to the 5.3k sensor and partly due to the way gopro handles artifacts and exposure. I definitely think DJi has the better value based on the initial price and the ability to use so many other audio input options
Thanks, you may have sold me... I have the Hero 9, and am quite happy with the resolution, but the Action 3 may add enough versatility to go for it. If you mentioned it, maybe I missed it, but can the Action 3 be used solidly with a finger mount, or is the magnetic the only option?
Magnetic is the option from DJI however smallrig ulanzi and others make a full cage for it with fingers if you plan on doing something crazy!

It's not just magnetic - there are two also "solid" locking clips there that you need to unlock in order to remove the camera from the mount. In the review it's suggested that "magnetic" mount may not be secure. But again - it's not just magnetic! This is what I'm wondering about in regard to riding motorcycles with an action camera, so please let's not confuse basic stuff in the reviews! If it hasn't fallen off - and I haven't heard even 1 reviewer saying that the mount would fail - then it means that it works as intended. The only watch out may be securing it properly. Apparently if you don't push the camera, the clips don't lock in and then it may be magnets all alone, but this is not how it should be installed. I hope this helps and clears the confusion.

Just an FYI for those who have one, the Rode VideoMic GO II will also work with the Action 3 using the USB-C port on the mic and a USB-C to USB-C cable when using the cold shoe on the PGY Tech or SmallRig cage. .The only downside is if you use the foam or fur windscreen it can show up in your frame.

Great video 💪, just one correction. DJI OA 3 have a 360 horizont steady as the gopro, you just need to dial down to 2.7k 16:9 😉 up to 60fps in these settings.

for overall yes but the action is tuned to make sure faces stay brighter and so it will definitely over expose sky and sun if there is a face in the frame

for me the gopro 11 had very few bugs and issues the 9 had lots, I didn't notice a difference in battery life
You mentioned all the good stuff about osmo and the bad things about gopro :)) This is not fair, gopro has way better image quality and osmo has focus issues - this are 2 main things that I would say to anyone who's searching for a new action camera. You're biased in your review and I don't consider this as a fair one.

you should watch my other comparison between these two cameras where I did exactly that. In both recent versions of the action 3 I found the focus issue to be fixed and yes GoPro still has better image quality overall but it's very close and more a matter of flavor

I never considered audio but I can see where the Action 3 has a huge advantage. The entry level package for the Action 3 also seems like a great deal. I'm kind of surprised most people don't review the subscription deal from GoPro. I get that no one wants to be tied to a subscription, but given the price decrease, it seems like a good deal.
I have and do use the subscription plan from gopro and it definitely has it's benefit for sure, online footage storage is huge, I have only had to use the replacement once though
I suggested this over on Flytpath too but filming a how-to needing multiple takes, I used the voice command on the 11 and didn’t have to shut it off. Maybe that’s a workaround for now.
Hopefully a firmware update corrects the issue you speak of when needing to change settings after starting to record.

The one DJI sent and a second one I bought both had the latest firmware and neither one was out of focus… I don’t really care if you buy one or the other. Some of the things you said the gopro loses on you either got wrong, or ignored issues of the DJI action, or were totally ignorant to gopro's competitive features (ie zoom)
1. you stated you like the default colors of the DJI action more, fine, but why do you not mention that it also blows out the highlights much more and the image quality of the gopro is still better (as you mentioned in your last review)? For example you went into detail about the importance of higher fps and resolution for gopro's slo-mo for the image quality... this didnt change so why do you not spend the same amount of time talking about GoPros better image in almost all aspects when compared to the Dji?
2. The gimmicky modes the action 3 has really does not do much unless you are not super knowledgeable on how to set the right settings for an action sports video etc etc.
3. The gopro HAS ZOOM. I am not sure how you got this information incorrect, but you did, it has a digital zoom. Also you mention its field of view on the linear + horizon lock setting (its most FOV restricted one) and compared it to the DJI camera's setting that technically does not even compete with the gopro here. Gopro included this for when you need horizon lock, not for when you need a wide FOV, so of course on the horizon lock setting the resulting video will be heavily cropped... why don't you compare the "hyperview" setting vs DJI's largest FOV? Why do you select only the GoPro's most narrow (designed without maximum FOV in mind) and what I assume is DJI's most narrow (however lacking full 360 degree horizon lock) settings to compare and state in general that the gopro loses here?
4. I feel like you went over a lot of the DJI's unique design features, but ignored everything the GoPro has to offer in its unique "nice to haves," why?
5. previous video you went into detail about the focus issue, here you did not mention it directly, and just said it was "fixed" well people who get unlucky and buy one of the DJI's with the hardware focus issue cant "fix" it without getting a replacement, so this MUST be mentioned to inform your viewers of this issue and the only way to deal with it
I am not calling you a shill or anything, but I do find it weird you are markedly more positive when DJI sponsors the video, and you fail to mention some of the "wins" gopro had in your previous review, and how you plainly got some of the information about gopro's stuff incorrect/mischaracterized

It's important to me that the device has a HDMI output so I can view it on an external monitor during recording. I don't think the DJI has an HDMI output. And the GoPro Hero 11 requires a module that (according to some Amazon reviews) can be flaky. Any suggestions on a GoPro type camera with a built-in HDMI output? Thanks, Rowby
I don't think there are any on the market currently that have that option years ago Sony had an X3000 action camera that had a mini HDMI out, you could also look at the sony RX0 II

Hey can you please tell me which memory card you are using for Osmo action 3? I am using SanDisk extreme 128gb UHS-1 micro sd card. But everytime I start the camera, it says "memory card speed slow. Shooting may stop." And the shooting stops after 20seconds or so. I am not sure what should solve this issue. Can you please advise?

Eh 0A3 can't do external mic and power bank at same time, sent mine back for that and the focus is soft compared to the hero 11.
They should have just updated the 0A1 instead of sticking the guts of the OA2 In a new case.
I sent my original back due to the focus issue but the last two I have had worked well, it seems later builds (January 2023 and later) are fixed
My only gripe of the action 3 is there isn't much accessories and I can't get extra batteries quite readily as go pro stuff

I will only use an action camera for when I go freediving... So a waterproof case that has the underwater filters is essential for good footage... Extra batteries is gonna be a must have in this situation... It is really great that DJI offers a competition to price and always keep rivals upping specs... Gopro knows exactly what the ppl want they just go about it in a way which will milk the most out of customers
Osmo Action 3 is a great camera but I hope that soon there will be an update to improve video quality, dynamic range , gyro stabilization, vertical mode like in gopro, some extra enhancement features. This is now a real competition for gopro as soon as they release with a larger sensor and at the current price, I'm looking forward to it. Go pro had no competitor they release a new model every year and every year each of these models has the same issues so i am with dji i hope they don't disappoint.

The truth is that DJI are taking over the market. Everyone went to Go pro because they were pretty much the first company to make quality action cameras and there really was no competition but while I'm sure they will up their game to match many of the features that DJI have, it may be too late as DJI just seem to be one step ahead. However, I will throw another camera into the reckoning and that's the insta 360 which not only has brilliant image quality (would like to see a comparison against the Go pro and DJI) but also saves a LOT of time in post edit, as it records 360 footage and you just choose what you like. I think if anyone is going to be strong competition against DJI it's the insta 360.

I just bought it and the soft focus is crazy, looked at the manufacture date
9-22.. they are still sending the bad batches as of april 1
I had focus issues with the first camera I purchased as well but units made after Jan 2023 seem to be better

yeah I saw your video and was kind of surprised, the later builds definitely seem to have been "fixed" by DJI, maybe they needed to re-align some of their assembly machines or something. I hope you get a good one because it is definitely a good action camera when it works

As far as I can see, the background on DJI is not really good it is like an image that is 90% rendered. It is incomplete and does not look real.

Not out of focus but it’s the difference between filming on a 5.3k sensor which will always look sharper than a 4K sensor

Great video!! But...... I have to agree with some of the other comments!! I'm have now been sent 3 bad Osmo Action 3 cameras. 2 from Amazon and one directly from DJI. I've contacted DJI directly and they can't guarantee that I would receive a camera from the good batches of cameras if I ordered through their website. They keep selling bad cameras and it's extremely frustrating since I'm a big supporter of DJI. I currently own the Osmo Action 1, mini 2 drone, and the Ronin sc gimbal(which I loved your video on btw). I will get one someday!!

Hello, I’m sorry, but I have set a dislike to this video for one major issue on the dji tools that seems never mentioned! It concerns the dji app that is not available through the app store for android, apperently due to potential security/confidentiality issues. This is the first huge and major flow of dji tools. The second flow is that the dji app, even if you install them from there web site, is not compatible with most of recent phones of major brands and some functionalities like controlling the camera from the phone won’t work.

Great video! I like the un-biased review of both cameras. The reason I chose the GoPro Hero 11 Black over the DJI Oslo Action 3, is that DJI already has my business when it comes to drones. I have had 9 of them dating back to the original Phantom 1. In my opinion, they make the best drones for my needs. GoPro on the other hand is an American company, and supporting an American company is good business in my opinion. Helps keep our economy strong. Plus, they make great action cameras. I have owned 8 of them dating back to the original Hero 960. Thank you for this honest, in depth review.

Nice video. My requirement is using camera as my POV recorder when having a half day event, and I chose GoPro 11. Action 3's battery life is really impressive when you shot timelapse (10s interval, 90% battery, last longer than 24 hours), while GoPro would always just about 2 hours run time even you choose 60s interval. But I find I am more impressed by GoPro's image quality and menu settings. Would be great if they can fix the timelapse power consumption, and preview when recording.

7:27 I still see soft focus or out of focus shot on the subjects face. I have a great OA1, but I upgraded to the 11 knowing that out there, up to this day, the defective ones are still being sold.
