      Using smudging as an example, I agree the teachings should not be sold. (Pay me & I'll explain what smudging is.) Also, the practice itself should not be sold. (Pay me & I'll come and smudge your home.) I have no issue w/someone selling materials that can be used for such a practice, someone who treats such spiritual practices with dignity and respect; and who, furthermore, is open to teaching all who wish to learn, no less clarifying that one need not buy anything but can practice smudging with materials found locally.

      @@MalloryRoseCo I responded thinking of both you and also someone I know who had a summer camp where certain traditional skills and rituals were practiced with campers, and he caught flak from tribes in the state because this was a for-profit camp and not even run by native Americans (even though he actually does have native blood himself, going back, although not raised on a reservation or anything; and even though he had made it known to campers who chose to participate in certain activities that those were not an official part of the curriculum but his gift/ and even though he did have a relationship with some elders in that state). I'm glad that my children were among he earliest campers and got the chance to experience what they did. I have friend, now in his 80's, a rather talented potter. (I'm looking at two of his bowls as we speak!) He was traveling out West one time and met an Indian elder. They asked him to come and teach what he knew because his people themselves had lost that knowledge. What's more important? That we're all purists about such things? Or that genuinely interested souls created by the same God who are willing to teach and wanting to learn find "win win" ways to do so. :)

    I've heard a lot of stories of secret ceremonies. No cameras or audio recording allowed. Some of the people I know that have attended these ceremonies, well I don't blame them for not sharing with everyone. Some things that happen at these ceremonies defy logic. Anyone not ready to understand what's happening in front of them would be a really bad thing. I feel a lot of our secret teachings are secret for a lot peoples own good.

      It seems to me that, in regard to secrets, there is a potential for problems either way - whether kept or revealed. In being kept, they may be being kept both from those who would do well in knowing them, as well as from those who would do harm in knowing them. Likewise, in being revealed, they may be being revealed both to those who would do harm in knowing them, but also to those who would do well in knowing them. As it seems to me, it is therefore taking a chance either way - whether any secret is kept from, or is instead revealed to any one or more individual(s), whether indigenous or otherwise.

    I understand secrets. Some things between myself and Spirit are not for public knowledge. It is sacred, just between us. But if it is medicine, and the plant itself has medicinal qualities, well thats not anything that can or should be held secret. Also, my question os this...everyone I meet seems to be under the impression that white sage has always been the most sacred plant for smudging. But if you walk outside and take a look around, I’m fairly certain many of us do not have this plant growing naturally anywhere in our vicinity. Why doesn’t anyone ever seem to acknowledge this fact and talk about how a person needs to use what is naturally on hand? I doubt there was any mail order way of acquiring sage back in the day if it didn’t grow in your area.

    I feel like Indigenous teachings i.e smudging is a trend right now. I don't think that's okay. I feel like more people should be allies and advocates for Indigenous people and respect the wisdom instead of exploiting it in the name of consumerism. Thank you so much for this video, each of your videos motivates me to be a better ally and learn more on different tribes and the history as well!

      Yes this is true too , although I dont know anyone currently who smudges for trend reasons. I think a lot of practices go threw this cycle or trend/entertainment/disrespect until it is realized that it is ancient and spiritual. I'm just patient with people till they find themselves but they should watch this video to educate themselves.

    I have a question though, one of the comments was about "witchcraft" and I was just curious at the context of that. I know that there are those who practice witchcraft that are respectful to the earth and work with nature. They do not wish harm to the earth and find balance amongst all its creations flora & fona alike. They treat it with respect like it should be. Most of what witchraft is carries some form of this in one way or another. However, I do know that there are those who try to carry the term witchcraft that play into the stereotypical "evil" overview that society has given witchcraft which only serves to hurt and blind others to what witchcraft actually is. I was just curious as to if this is what that context was directed to or if it was to witchcraft in general as a whole. Thank you for reading

    • @MalloryRoseCo
      @MalloryRoseCo  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking, we unfortunately do not have much knowledge about witchcraft! I would research some things on the internet and find some experts on this topic! Thank you for watching our video :)

    • @hollystahl5527
      @hollystahl5527 3 роки тому +1

      This is actually why I came to the comments section, because the witchcraft comment caught me off guard. Kitchen witches, as well as druidry, umbrella paganism, and hedge witches work closely with nature in an effort to be better stewards to the animals and plants the Creator has blessed us all with. In modern media like The Hobbit, Radaghast was a "brown wizard", as his ties were directly focused to the stewardship of the earth and it's animals. Also, witchcraft practitioners use these sacred medicines in the exact ways I've seen described in many of the smudging videos on this channel. As a witch, I would be beyond blessed to learn about more indigenous cultures and their beliefs in a hands-on way. We were created together and learning about how we're so alike would bring greater healing to the earth and our own spirit to celebrate what we thought were different approaches.

    I have some questions related to what you've stated. You use the phrase "indigenous culture", but my understanding is that there are and have been differences, as well as similarities, between the various indigenous tribes. The various differences might even be characterized as being cultural differences, the similarities as being cultural similarities. I am wondering, therefore, whether it might be the case that - rather than there being an indigenous culture that is "the indigenous culture", as you've put it - there are, in fact, multiple indigenous cultures, instead. My second question is compound in nature. Part of that next question is whether each and every one of those that you have identified as being among the sacred medicines necessarily is considered by all of the various indigenous tribes as being a sacred medicine. So, for example, do all indigenous tribes consider sweetgrass as being sacred? The other part is whether there are also other considered as being sacred medicines, but that are only considered as being sacred medicines by one or more indigenous tribe(s), without also being considered as that by all other indigenous tribes, as well. Likewise, mightn't what is considered as being a secret medicine by one or more indigenous tribes (or even among different individuals included within the various tribes), not also be considered by one or more other indigenous tribes (or individuals) as being a secret medicine, even if it is - nevertheless - considered as being a sacred medicine?

    • @MalloryRoseCo
      @MalloryRoseCo  2 роки тому

      Hi there thanks for your question ,yes many indigenous tribes are different and have their own ways, teachings and customs. We're typically speaking about the Anishinaabek nation. Most indigenous groups here in Canada all see the 4 sacred medicines as sacred.

    I red "Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions", and the "sacred circle" from Archie Fire Lame Deer, the son of John Fire and also "Spiritual Legacy of the American Indian" (as told to Joseph Epes Brown) from Hehaka sapa (Black Elk) they told about sacred medecine and indigenous sacred rituals, and share it with the reader in order that the knowledge of their tradition don't be extinct. They didn't say all, I guess, because i think that what the spirits told them , a prt of it at least, have to be secret or that's concerned only the way they have to managed their role as "medecin maen" (wičháša wakȟáŋ as the lakota prefred said) or more exactly holy men. i am very curious about nativ way of life and your different tradition, i think you are in the truth in your relationship to the world.

    We shouldnt promote or “suggest” tribalism in this way. It’s negative almost. The ancients are dying. I’m also wondering what you consider yourself as? I’m sure you could possible have the ancestry. But everyone with indigenous blood and/or melanin/or sacred roots are one not separate no matter the continent. During displacement a lot of ppl lost their culture and it’s okay if they want to learn if they carry it with respect. (I also speak with my ancestors often! I’m psychic. I see, hear, and dream of them like most ppl in my frequency) And yes although my hair grows to the sun like thee Africans in my ancestry I have Native American + more roots too. The secrets call me and reveal themselves to me often. I’m not saying this was the most terrible video it’s not. But we should empower grouping and not separating thats very colonizer like thinking and the energy was first induced when the natives friendly ways were taken for granted and they loss (every indigenous that was integrated into white society has it in many forms and suffer from the indoctrination and cruelty) Even if someones aged relative told them not to share secrecy based on affiliation with the blood line is not helpful to the ones tracing themselves and are meant to go down the path genuinely. Again I’m not knocking your lineage for how you look I have many amazing friends and spiritual teachers that look like you. But you should always remember that you sharing information at this Angle while your flesh looks like that will come off not the best to Most and I think you should touch on it and your lineage in your videos like I do because I am “bLaCk” things should not fall into the wrong hands tho! It’s a time where “Witchcraft” like things are becoming acceptable. Here’s the chance to help without being murdered. You should gate keep based on bloodline some ppl don’t know their bloodlines but are pulled to it because of their spirit guides. Don’t do it unless they are low vibration and plan to disrupt or misrepresent the culture.

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. Mallory, who is the founder of Tribal Trade Co, is Ojibwe from Curve Lake First Nation. We embrace and support all tribal people - regardless of what their background is OR what they look like. It can be extremely damaging to denounce someone's lineage based on the colour of their skin.
