She did an amazing duet with John Denver (leaving on a jet plane) and she also sang with Joni Mitchell and Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul and Mary) which is the nearest I have ever heard to perfection and what I believe angels sound like and beyond beautiful.
She had the most successful (albeit brief) post Mamas & Papas career. She had another even bigger solo hit with the song "Make Your Own Kind of Music" a wonderful tune about forging your own path despite what others may be doing.
She had a lovely voice, I was all set to see her at a Sheffield Night Club (UK) in the early 70’s and unfortunately she died the night before in London. RIP Mama Cass Elliott😢
This was written in 1931, Cass among other brought it to the attention of a new generation. We sang it to my 97 year old father in his last moment on this earth a bit over a year ago, and I'm pretty sure he was trying to hum along.
awww that is SO SWEET that you sang it to your father just before he passed. SO SORRY for the loss of your dad. My Dad was a musician and he played this song many times in his musical career. He was 102 when he passed away. We were both fortunate to have our fathers with us for longer than most people
I have listened to this so many times!!!!! Beautiful. I agree about her stage presence, and she was so light on her feet. A pleasure to visit your channel, as always. All the best.
Mama Cass has always been one of my favourite singers. Another singer who emerged beautifully, having had a successful career before, is Alison Moyet. She had been with Vince Clarke in Yazoo. Then, made such quality songs such as All Cried Out and That Ole Devil Called Love. And one of my favourite performances by her was a few years later when she sang Only You . "Alison Moyet live at the Burberry show 2016"
One of my favorite songs by Cass this a great cover ,the song was done first by Ozzie Nelson in 1931, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day and Bing Crosby.
There will never ever be another Mama Cass Elliott, ever! Her voice (and others such as Linda Ronstadt and Karen Carpenter) can never ever be replicated or duplicated. I feel so honored to have lived in that era of music and had been able to listen to such artistry and beauty in the voices of music back then.
She did such a wonderful version of this. I think she was with The Mamas and Papas when she did this. They had so many good ones and Mama's voice really stands out. One song that just popped into my head that is well worth listening to is 'Strange Young Girls' by The Mamas and Papas. You'll love Mama's voice in that one.
Her voice is a beam of sunshine on clear blue day. Wouldn’t you love to be in a piano bar with her singing this on stage and accompanied by just a piano and a cello.
@@ShawnandMel4Life ~ Cool huh. I'm from Baltimore myself. Fells Point, Highlandtown, Canton area. Graduated from Patterson High school on Kane Street, in 1986...
This is modern old school music at its finest, sung by the one and only Cass Elliott. Gone waaayyy toooo soon. What a talent. I have never understood the fixation on her weight. Beautiful and talented both on the inside and outside. I would give anything to be able to have to told her that. Same with my angel, Karen Carpenter.❤❤❤❤
Mama Cass! She was with the Mama's and Papa's and was great, but this solo of an old school song was fantastic. She was trained to sing sing classically and had options to sing on Broadway.
My fave of hers was California Dreamin with the Mamas and Papas. Please react to Blood Sweat and Tears songs Spinning Wheel & And When I Die (they were back in the 60s and 70s). You guys are an awesome couple, a breath of fresh air
"It's Getting Better" by Cass, & "Leaving On A Jet Plane" by Cass and John Denver next please. ( I LOVE the 1st one btw.) She had a beautiful voice. ❤🎶
So fitting that you're wearing that Oriole hat/shirt. Cass is from Baltimore. She went to the same high school as my mom (but a few yrs later) I was just listening to a podcast recorded a few yrs ago today with John Sebastian from a group called the Lovin' Spoonful. They were talking about Cass. She was quite a fascinating person. She also factored into a lot of musical artists lives back in the 60s. She introduced a lot of artists to each other and I believe is responsible for getting Crosby, Stills & Nash together. She sure could sing too.❤
"Dream A Little Dream Of Me" was actually a big hit for Mama Cass Elliot when she went solo. The Mamas & the Papas were a great folk rock group in the 60's. They were known for their smooth harmonies. You've done a few of their songs. They had lots of great hits such as "Words Of Love", "Dancing In The Street", "Look Through My Window", "Creeque Alley", "Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)", "Safe In My Garden", "I Saw Her Again" etc.
It wasn't really a Cass solo song. John Phillips of the Mamas & Papas chose this & produced this for a M&P album. But then the record company promoted it as a Cass solo song which John wasn't happy about - even tho the M&P were just about to break up. Still - a great cover version by Cass.
Yall got to watch, It's just a dream with the video version by Carrie Underwood and Two Black Cadillacs in the video version by Carrie Underwood warning Christine car from the scary movie is in it.
If you want to hear how powerful her voice was, then you need to listen to “Words of Love” and “Sing for your Supper”….(mamas and the papas)! Very powerful!!
She had the most beautiful voice that was just suited to this kind of song. I think she actually was born a bit too late. She would have been such an incredible success as a Big Band singer. She did have the most solo musical success of any of the Mamas and Papas, and I’m sure she would have gone on to a lot of acclaim. People loved her a lot. She left us way too soon.
My dad generation is the 1960's. I watched her story on the Reel Network. The Music industry was so cruel to her. They focused more on weight rather her talent. They literally broke her down mentally.
Like Cass Elliot, but - you need to listen to the REAL GREAT version of this done by Ella Fitzgerald. Ella is the queen of scat and is flat amazing. My fav ella is Cry Me A River, many like her Summertime version better than any. Do tive her a look. you'll love it.
This studio version sounds better in my opinion. The instruments here on this live seem to loud here or something. However here vocals are perfection on here just as in the studio.
I just thought of a song that I'd love to see you two react to (which has nothing to do with this song, BTW): Betty Everett, "It's in His Kiss" (the "Shoop Shoop" song).
This lady had a beautiful voice! We lost her too soon! ❤❤❤
One of the warmest, richest smoothest voices of the 20th century.
Any Century
And how could you not smile and glow listening to this!
Love her singing Go where u want to go❤awesome harmonies
This song is almost 100 years old and I have heard dozens of versions, but nobody does it better than Cass!
We agree
I prefer the album version.
B J M, I agree, nobody sings it like Cass! ✌️💙🎶
Have you forgotten the best and classic Doris Day?
Agreed
Loved Mama Cass. She was made to sing.
And she had a perfect voice… loved her TV show. Yes, I’m that old.
Cass was an amazing talent gone way too soon. She was the Godmother of Laurel Canyon.
Indeed. She was the Gertrude Stein of the Canyon.
Cass had a velvety butter voice . Rich , smooth and comforting. Such a loss
She did an amazing duet with John Denver (leaving on a jet plane) and she also sang with Joni Mitchell and Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul and Mary) which is the nearest I have ever heard to perfection and what I believe angels sound like and beyond beautiful.
I love her reaction sitting in the front row watching Janis Joplin doing ball and chain
She also sang back up for John Denver’s almost heaven West Virginia ❤
Country roads❤❤❤❤
Her voice was so beautiful. Such a shame she died so young. Great reaction as ever guys❤
I love, Mama Cass Elliot. She had a wonderful beautiful voice. May she rest in peace 🙏🏾
She had the most successful (albeit brief) post Mamas & Papas career. She had another even bigger solo hit with the song "Make Your Own Kind of Music" a wonderful tune about forging your own path despite what others may be doing.

So sorry to hear this. RIP Cass
@@ShawnandMel4Life As Michelle Phillip (the other Mama) said 'she died a very happy woman' ;)
“Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you”. My favorite line
😇RIP CASS😇 😍😍😍😍😍
She was a class act, wonderful singer and beautiful.

Sometimes in the shadow of Michelle, but she was always the standout imo 🎶🎵💚
One of my all-time favorite singers. Cass Elliot was one of the greats.
My mom used to sing this song to me before bed when I was a little girl. I've always lived Mama Cass.❤
Shawn ::: Now next time you hear the Mamas and Papas listen to her voice, she ALWAYS sounds like this.
Another insanely angelic voice! First y’all did Roberta Flack, now the most amazing Mama Cass.
I have listened to this so many times!!!!! Beautiful. I agree about her stage presence, and she was so light on her feet. A pleasure to visit your channel, as always. All the best.
Mamma Cass was so fun, great talent. ❤
I just noticed that I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat..what a nice song...
She did (at least) a couple of other great songs, Make Your Own Kind of Music and It's Getting Better (both used in the LOST TV Series)
Mama Cass has always been one of my favourite singers. Another singer who emerged beautifully, having had a successful career before, is Alison Moyet. She had been with Vince Clarke in Yazoo. Had to be a treasure for Owen her daughter to have this song for her. Cass just recently got her walk of fame star. Her grand daughter looks like her.
Make Your Own Kind Of Music was a big hit for her too. Great song.
Voice of an Angel.
Her voice brings tears to my heart. Rest In Peace Mama Cass
Cass was wonderful solo. She worked alot on her own.
Her voice was just amazing.
You should checkout her singing with John Denver Leaving in a jet airplane if you haven’t already I think you will enjoy it.
Cass singing "It's getting better" was my wife's favourite song.....unfortunately it didn't get better and we got divorced 😉
She had such a beautiful voice!
This is my favorite Cass Elliot song. It's a sexy, sultry, hauntingly beautiful adult lullaby!
Love 💞 mama Cass ❤️ I love this song 💓 this woman was what made Mama and papas 💕
I love love cass this song is Awsome miss her
Her voice is a beam of sunshine on clear blue day. Wouldn’t you love to be in a piano bar with her singing this on stage and accompanied by just a piano and a cello.
She knocked this song out of the park. May she rest in peace.
I’ve always liked The Mamas and Papas, each of the members. But I think it was Mama Cass that made them!! 😉
one of the finest voices of my generation....like a angel
Very nice song, beautiful voice. Good idea to check out more from Mamas & Papas. The 60s,had sooooo many good and great singers.
Cass had a voice on her! She was great!
Mama Cass was born in Baltimore, Maryland...
Wow that's our home town
@@ShawnandMel4Life ~ Cool huh. I'm from Baltimore myself. Fells Point, Highlandtown, Canton area. Graduated from Patterson High school on Kane Street, in 1986...
Cass and Bette Midler are two of my favorite singers- a blend of contemporary and old school.
Her beautiful voice still lives on. What a beautiful woman and soul.
The way she could play with those notes. If she'd lived, she would be on Broadway.
Mama Cass had a great voice and we lost her way too young
Loved Mama Cass Elliot, and the mama and papa’s

This is one of very few times I recommend listening to the studio recording of this song. It really shows off Cass's vocal ability
Mama Cass is from Maryland!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mama Cass has such a great soulful voice. Miss her. ❤❤
Honestly yall are the best. 🎉
Mama Cass! I first learned about her after the TV show LOST used one of her songs a lot.
I love how you described her voice. Your the best. Cass Elliot was an Angle on earth for sure.
Mama Cass! She was with the Mama's and Papa's and was great, but this solo of an old school song was fantastic. She was trained to sing sing classically and had options to sing on Broadway.
Love you two. I can't help myself.
I grew up with this and I used to sing it to my babies as I rocked them. Twenty years later.
She seemed so cool to talk to. I’d hang around her. ✌️❤️🎸
Now you two should hear the studio version from the Mamas and Papas!
Lawd I'm following yall around to much and I got house work. 😂
perfection
My fave of hers was California Dreamin with the Mamas and Papas. Please react to Blood Sweat and Tears songs Spinning Wheel & And When I Die (they were back in the 60s and 70s). You guys are an awesome couple, a breath of fresh air
Cass was from Baltimore. Go Orioles.
I grew up with this song I loved then and now ❤

React to “I’m Already There” by Lonestar! It’s a beautiful song

I like her dress.
