    Serious drywallers would likely never use it but weekend carpenters may like it. It uses high-powered magnets. You get one locator and 3 back magnets per pack. It's also helpful for paneling beadboard.

    Just put a cut off screw in each receptacle hole, punch the drywall on.
    Put another box on top matching the screws, trace around it. Cut on the traced line.
    Works for any size box, and less clutter for little used tools.

      I saw that method that you speak of in another tutorial. The only issue I have is if you shift the drywall around getting it into place, potentially you could scrape the back, not that anyone will see it. However, you're doing a lot of these, it looks simple enough but I would be using one of those cut-out tools rotozip or an attachment for a drill rather than the hand saw.

    Tip: Never put fasteners near a cutout like an electrical box that sticks out past the face of the stud. Just as in your case it will blow out the drywall. Now the drywall will need to be repaired during the taping finishing prosses. The whole idea behind this gadget is to help the DIYer do good clean work and produce accurate cutouts without measuring. One screw next to the cutout ruined an otherwise accurate cut that now needs more and unnecessary work.

    By code the front of the box must be set flush with the front of the drywall; the box in this video is recessed therefore a box extender will be needed. They’re not cheap. Also, as a suggestion design some easier way to retrieve the base magnet from the box after the work is done. The video showed it being pried out with the end of the jab saw. How about a smaller magnet, located on the front and in the centre of the base magnet, to pull it out?

    I see how his could work. Awesome idea! Coulda used this 4 years ago when I finished my basement. So tell me, how does this work with metal framing instead of the traditional 2" x 4"s?

    I'm glad that you didn't pierce the vapor barrier. :) Nice time-saving tool.

    So box is designed to be flush with sheetrock and the way this device seems to work box has to be flush with 2 by 4 and that will leave box behind wall by 1/2"? do you use spacers on all electrical devices in boxes?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  9 років тому +3

      +Gordon Christensen No, you don't put in all the screws in the sheetrock. You hang it and get it started and then it will bulge at the box. Just don't put screws near the box till after you cut it out.

    What do you do if your electrical outlets are already installed in the box?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  9 років тому +1

      +Dale Hawerchuk Fan You can't use this with outlets. You would have to take them out.

      Great video! Use the Plug Mark tool for existing outlets - model 8120 buy on Amazon or other online tool dealers.

    It seems that it would be very easy to cut the blind Mark box inside the electrical box - because you cannot see what you cutting into - no?

    A power reciprocal saw would cut dry wall much cleaner.

  • @dffgsss
    @dffgsss 7 років тому +5

    You should first mark,
    Then take out the board,
    cut it
    Then connect the board.
    Do not cut when the plastic box is behind
