Hiccup killed people because there is a dragon that eats lava and without it the village would burn and the people And the third sucked toothless sees a dragon and immediately left with not wile to go back
Guys give Dragons the nine realms a chance!!! That movie looks SOOO great though I rate httyd over it! It is really httyd just in the future!! I've never watched it but I've seen the trailer and it looks so beautiful! The designs the storyline! EVERYTHING! So give Dragons nine realms a chance before saying its gross or horrible... The fact people say they weren't even trying! THEY WERE SO GIVE IT A Chance though I don't mind peoples opinions of not liking it but the NO ONE likes it except me is just.... Sad... It makes me depressed to see people hating a good Movie!
Best comment I have ever seen lol and true I agree this 'nine realms' do not fit with the name, full of shit, made only for money and a complete rip off. I think it would have been better if they made a series for the adventures toothless has in the hidden world.
@@RiseStreamer I think there is a error in your sentence but I think you mean that if there was a series for toothless's adventures in the hidden world it would be 100 times better than this one? If yes then I truly agree.
personality: -white boy -black boy -someone with character development, and with actual originality -asian girl edit: i will like to thank you all for not having a war in the replies of this, it means a lot because this doesn’t often happen
What makes HTTYD so impactful to me is the fact that I grew up with hiccup. As I watched the movies, I was in the same stage of life as him. As I look back I can’t help but feel like these movies are part of who I am in a huge way. Thanks dream works (:
the bond between Thunder and the kid happened to fast for my taste ? I mean, sure Hiccup and Toothless only bonded for one half of the movie but you could actually see the growth. Toothless didn't trust Hiccup right off the bat, and Hiccup was still fearful of toothless and we watched that evolve throughout the movie(s).
Not to mention they also had a REASON to bond because Hiccup helped Toothless fly again. I haven't seen nine realms but i dont think thunder's injury would have been that bad considering he could still fly by himself
You know, wouldn't it be better to have the story focusing about the rediscovery of the dragons (mainly meaning hiccups legacy and what became of it through the ages). You know having the main characters finding hiccups old gear that is somewhat ragged and destroyed and going to find the hidden world through the "journals" of the original characters.
@@j2wonky718 Well i would say that after discovering the ending could be that dragons died out because of some catastrophe (like tectonic movement, because im not sure but i see much more land and less sea in this video then the first series) and the movie eneds with the scene where they find a sealed cave filled with hibernating dragon eggs.
I honestly wish we got a spin-off film or mini-series of Valka and Cloudjumper on what they were doing during those 20 years. Would have been better than Nine Realms.
Everyone thought she was dead. In all that time she was rescuing and protecting dragons. So while she was an absent parent, she was doing something worthwhile. Gaining information that she could give to hiccup, and the Berkians in order to expand their understanding. Also, new dragons!
@@ArbiterofTruth if my mother pretended she was dead for 20 YEARS and left me with a father who didn't understand me, to go rescue some endangered lizards, I'd be mad. Plus "let my husband think dragons killed me" probably made Stoick hate dragons more. And gaining information for Hiccup? How would she know if he lived to his next birthday if she was gone? Berk could have been wiped off the map by the Red Death and what could she have done to stop it from her dragon preserve? She left everyone to take their chances; she abandoned her responsibilities. Hiccup made friends with a dragon, stayed, and taught his people about them. Y'know, like a responsible member of the chief's family. Valka sucks, I wish she would have never been seen again.
Nine realms seems like a first draft for the original movies that was scrapped in favor of what we got but some corporate stooge one day stumbled upon it while looking into some old paperwork and plopped it in the writers room and said, "THIS IS GONNA BE REVOLUTIONARY!!!"
@@dg4545 toothless is the name of a terrible Terror. And there are no nightfuries in the script. Would have been a very different, low stakes flim. Tiny terrible Terror toothless was not intelligent or cute. This first draft was meant to be faithful to the books, but man it was lacking big story or excitement required to be the flim it was. They scrapped it because DreamWorks big boss saw the script and said the ending was great but where was the story? In the end, they had to make big changes to story, and keep only the location, names and characters. You know Astrid doesn't even exsit in the books?
@Amy Holland this person knows everything about the books, listen to them OP. As for what I was referring to, it's the nearly complete 1st draft animation and movie script, as you asked for the difference between draft movie and real movie.
@Amy Holland ah yes, another book connoiseur i do find it interesting though that in the rise of berk game, there was actually a windwalker dragon that more accurately represents windwalker from the books
Httyd is an absolute masterpiece. There’s something about the Vikings era, the unique characters, and soundtrack that is so captivating. There’s also the plot with the forbidden friendship and overstepping boundaries, making way for a whole new future that’s full of adventure with an archipelago that’s been unexplored. It makes you feel like you’re stepping into a different world for the period of the movie. It isn’t just nostalgia for me, it’s a part of my childhood that I’ll hold onto forever.
That's what is like to watch anime my guy but I grew up on how to train your dragon as well if was one of the least movies I rented from blockbuster before they died the 1st one of course but I ALWAYS feel that way with anime you should give it a try I can recommend you some if you want
I have stayed loyal to httyd ever since i watched the first movie i have been patiently waiting for the second one and after watching the second one i waited for the hidden world and the ending had me crying hard bruh Edit: you have to rewatch httyd, httyd2, httyd the hidden world 100 times or higher to be a real fan of it
Back then when I was younger, I always watched every httyd film with my best friend as soon as it came out and we turned his room in a cinema every year we made a marathon… the franchise means a lot to me, when I saw the nine realms I cried and vomited and died and resurrected just to die again because of this shit
Eh, no I get that. Even 12 years of industry advancement is offset by the difference in profit between series syndication and theater releases plus the need to stretch the animation budget across a longer runtime. Even with more than a decade series's aren't going to look better than their films in most cases and it's understandable. When you measure it next to comparable animated series's on the other hand...
i’m not allowing my children to like this bullshit, only the real HTTYD. i don’t give two shits about who they are and who they date, I’m nine realms-phobic.
probably won´t happen. It´s just so bad.. It´s so bad, when i saw the dragons and the characters in this video thought this is a completely different kids show
I saw a lot of comments under the trailer of people who actually like this show and I think they never saw a better animated show so they dont care about the animation.I also watched Animated movies when I was younger and found the animation and everything good but when I watched it a few years later again I was like: Oh god how bad is this animation
Honestly it feels weird that the modern version of HTTYD wouldn't know of dragons. Yeah they wouldn't know of modern, living dragons but surely there would be plenty of dragons in the fossil record or even burial sites found with dragons in them (I find it hard to believe that Berk didn't have at least one dragon pass away at some point before the Hidden World was discovered). We even have that one island from the show made up of a giant Bewilderbeast fossil! Modern paleontologists would be all over that thing!
I find it hard to believe every dragon was able to even get in because of size or lack of flight like the speedstingers who haven't evolved to have webbed feet but it's possible that there are more entrances in the world than just one or maybe even more hidden world like the one we know
I had no idea this existed. A story that takes place in the HTTYD universe in the modern era sounds _really_ cool, and it's such a shame to see that they really didn't try here. The first movie is so freaking special to me.
@@marchwoods8109 i can't remember any names, but if you filter the tags on AO3, they become pretty easy to find. Generally, they're tagged stuff like "post canon" or something to that extent.
Yeah i can agree on that, this series is very soulless honestly it feels more like Fast & Furious Spy racers mixed with Camp Cretaceous and they just slapped the Dragons title onto it.
I have to agree Camp Cretaceous had more heart in it than Nine Realms but hey it’s okay in my own opinion If Dragons: The Nine Realms was made and created by a fan of the original trilogy it could’ve been better
Camp Cretaceous shouldnt even be compared to Nine Realms. Camp answers plenty of guestions, explains plot holes and actually is very useful to the franchise and give some depth. Why Mosa didnt die from hunger? Explained. What happens to injured or sick dinos? Explained. Spino really have something personal against humans or his stalking was coincidence? Answered. Why Indominus rex is so perfectly created even tho she was the first hybrid? Answered. How good temperature of Island is kept for dinos? Explained. Overall I would go ahead and say it: Camp is needed. Also this show actually has good character development and cares about its story. But Nine realms? It literally doesn't give anything for the franchise. Absolutely anything.
It seems like all the newer animations have this sort of rounded out, simplistic designs that I suppose are meant to appeal to children( it’s mostly used in shows and fils directly for young children) but it really makes older viewers automatically view it as a child’s film/movie, no matter who it’s targeted for
Nine Realms made mepuked my whole breakfast, lunch and dinner on the day the trailer released It was such a bad memory that i remembered this reaction of mine
"Legend says that when the ground quakes or lava spews from the earth it’s the dragons. Letting us know they’re still here. Waiting for us to figure out how to get along. Yes, the world believes the dragons are gone, if they ever existed at all. But we, Berkians, we know otherwise. And we’ll guard this secret until the time comes when dragons can return in peace." A great quote from the hidden world movie to reflect on real life, an absolute inspiration Until the same studio decided to butcher it just from the nine realms existing alone, aside from all the rehash The franchise's did what it did, let it rest at least from my POV anyway
And if they DID reboot it,have it BE about the berkians. Have the dragons be tales, hiccups descendant wants to find one as he believes they're in danger, as they've been sighted recently. He searches for the lost world and finds an injured dragon.yes, its similar to the first movie. But it WORKS. far better than THIS
Didn't illumination buy DreamWorks in 2016? 6 years after the production on "HTTYD: THW" began? I bet your ass these spin offs are thanks to the business practices of Illumination. With DreamWorks, it was art. And it would have ended there. But with Illumination's ONLY goal being money, seeing the series make dough, decided to reanimate the well-rested corpse and bludgeon it in hopes for another loaf of bread. I know DreamWorks was a money-focused company, but at least some talented writers on there knew when to finish their masterpieces.
When I heard the title “the nine realms” I kinda thought that it was actually gonna involve the nine realms and the dragons unique to each realm and that would be an actually cool concept but instead we got this crap
The main problem I had with it was that the main dragon was like a grown up version of toothlesses and the light fury’s babys. Edit:how did I get almost 1000 likes?
@@alchemy5750 That is true, yeah. It wouldn't bother me so much if 'Thunder' was mostly white and just a bit from the nightfury genes remained, making him more of a lightfury, since there were still some lighfurys left, but being mostly a nightfury... just doesn't make any sense
@@HowdyMyDarlin Exactly... like peoplle said they could've mated with the other lighfuries, but that would imply the black spots slowly disappearing more and more with every generation.
This is just my opinion but I disagree . The story plays in an older time for a reason, dragons made more sense in the viking times, not in the modern days. It doesn't fit at all and it's poorly executed. Dragons, even if they existed, don't fit into our modern world.
I had an idea for a modern httyd spinoff which I personally think is much better than this show. An archeologist searching for remains in an old Viking settlement in unearths a stone engraved with dragons and clues to find something. The archeologist decodes the clues and follows them one by one, eventually finding an old dragon egg preserved for centuries, and instructions on how to hatch it. This would include lots of lore from the movies, tv shows, and books, as well as being more amusing to the adults who grew up watching the original movie.
Perfectly said. I think this could have been cool, in a lot of ways, but personally, I would have stayed in berk, so that the dragon tradition is never lost, or whatever happened here
That Fault Ripper is the must generic dragon I’ve ever seen in a HTTYD instalment. HTTYD is known for their unique and creative approaches in making dragons. Even the ones the kids get have some creativity... and then there’s that... what... the fuck?
@@Tomy_Lightning not defending this show at all mind you, but i just want to point out that hookfang is a pretty generic dragon/wyvern as well, if you look up wyvern on the internet you can find a lot of wyverns with kind off the same looks, that being said though they made the nightmare the kind of creature in httyd so even if you knew everything there is to know about dragon legends and mythology you would quickly forget he's more generic than the others and see past all that, so yes i agree, that being said though just about about everything in this show is bad imo so i just forget about it and move on as if it never happened
@@blackg8r20 while I do agree on the fact the monstrous nightmare is a wyvern it's not a generic one sure it looks like a generic wyvern at first glance and is fairly different from a one-to-one comparison but unlike the fault ripper who is straight up just a generic European dragon I'm not kidding I typed generic European dragon and the fault ripper looks exactly like those but he is gray. M. Nightmares are different from a generic wyvern the dragon doesn't look like the wyverns you see if you type in wyvern
They should have created a unique story about the kids discovering dragon fossils on an island formerly known as Vanaheim or whatever and then only Thunder (with a more creative name) showing up, but way more mysterious and cautious.
add a transformation to that, like the kids getting changed into dragons and talk with the dragons, in time they become ambassadors, since they are 2 species and there would be future generations like that, making dragon-human hybrids.
The worst part is that in the last part it doesn’t even look like their flying fast, which is a direct difference to the first movie, in the first, I was sitting on the edge of my seat when watching toothless and hiccup fly through the sky to escape the red death, then this knock off literally made me close it down half way through and watch the first one again.
I respectfully disagree with the thought of moving to the modern day, it wouldn't hit as hard as the originals, one of the things I love is that the everything clicks together perfectly and I think by moving the time period would ruin the feeling of all of it. The soundtrack, the relationships, and even character design would be too different
I believe almost any idea can work if executed well enough. But I do think the odds of pulling off a modern day series were very slim. Borderline non existent
@@mrpizzacat8273 I'd have to disagree that it's that hard, personally I think it would have been doable had they picked a completely different storyline, and actually given some personality to the robot characters, it wasn't all terrible you did have that one voice actor but meh it wasn't amazing.
The How To Train Your Dragon trilogy has and always will be some of the best movies ever made. Not to mention the shows that accompanied the movies were all top tier entertainment. Mad respect to the original bloodline. This rip-off crap can die painfully.
was impressed by and thoroughly enjoyed the spin off series and i loved that it progressed with the films. gave a really good sense of these characters growing up and becoming who we see at the end of the last film
YESS, THE SHOWS ARE TOP TIER TOO!!!! Im sad that now they are destroying the franchise but at least for me the only ones that count are the Movies, and Shows and the few tie-in comics they released (About 5)
I loved HTTYD 1 so much, that i kept on rewatching it everytime i could to the point where i memorized the entire dialogue from start to finish when i was a kid.
Ok. So you’re telling me. The team that made Hiccup create the most advanced weapon ever(talkin bout his swiss army sword) that modern scientist WISH they had and could replicate. And now the shows crew/team decided to just throw all the past weapons, experiences, knowledge, and history… OFF A CLIFF INTO THE ABYSS!?!?!? Great job Dreamworks. Really wanted to see that amazing sword make a return, and considering their “modern” equipment I’m sure the characters could’ve restored and added a few upgrades to it.
Btw the new night furry is probably a inbreed cuz it was shown that toothless is the last night furry and to make the black collor gene to survive 1300 years it means that toothless had to breed with his children aka the night lights ( the female one thats black idk the name) even then the result will probably be deceased. Mortifying And to add on that we want hiccups kids to ride the dragon right not a random teen 💀 They werent even trying
Now that the review is out, I can say that I was right to skip this. It looked even more lifeless then I originally thought. Why couldn’t they just make like a mini-series or specials between the second and third films (I saw mini series because we only have a year between films this time). At least that would help continue the story of our favorite characters and see how things changed. Anyone else wonder how Valka adjusted to everything? Hiccup adjusting to chiefdom? Toothless as a king? If you excuse me, I’m going to watch the good dragons series again
At least the original series were good. Also, since this series takes place after all the original characters have died, at least it doesn’t affect the original by that much.
The movies are set in the older age for a reason, more an age where dragon where more believable, setting it in the modern age just closes the door to fantasy with all the tings we might see everyday. The nine realms demonstrates why it would be hard and stupid to do something in the modern age, as well as being a disgrace to the three other movies. If a theme works, dont get rid of it, expand on it and end it when necessary
@@gallopingbrook7931 they are tho, most of them are lifeless cash grabs. Have you heard of the Patrick star show? I've heard from podcasts that it's dumb as bricks just like Patrick I guess
Not only that, the fans complain too much especially my favourite, insta artists complain aswell to the point that they decided to the reboot for themselves and even other artists doesn't like the Hidden World ending and they thought it was soulless but nope, its not. Sometimes I just wish the fans would please be accepting to the ending the franchise been going for instead to complaining and I heard some wanted another sequel.
@@gallopingbrook7931 nah bro. The owl house? She ra? Craig of the creek? The Loud House? Even Teen Titans Go has its moments. Unless you've actually gone out of your way to watch cartoons now adays, you don't know what you're talking about
I will say that combining a modern-esque world with a fantastical element and watching as they clash and interact has serious potential - underexplored, even. But you can't do something like that and half-ass it. The invalidation of physics, the restructuring of society, the clash of different powers as they seek to control the dragons, the sudden thrusting of the main characters to a global stage as uneasy wardens of a frightening new power - all of this has great potential. But you have to acknowledge that potential and actually use it, which this show categorically fails to.
The original httyd altered my brain chemistry. 12 years after watching it for the first time I still have dreams about it. It simultaneously filled and created a void in my soul my little kid self didn’t know they had, and it remained. I loved the series and the soundtrack is heavenly. This sad excuse of a series breaks my heart, it’s so ugly and seems to dull
Why didn't they just make Alexandria the main character then? She's got loads of character and has a cool background for an interesting story. (I know nothing about The Nine Realms so most of this is speculation based off this video.) Picture it: Alexandria, a shy agoraphobe who has a hard time making friends, is brought along on an expedition to scout out a potential demolition area. Maybe she's there because her parents are apart of the expedition team. She's deeply immersed in technology, maybe to the point that it's unhealthy. Alexandria refuses to socialize and shuts herself in her room to escape into her hobby. Then one day, her parents -- fed up with their daughter's habits -- take her with them on a brief sojourn outside into the forest. Nothing dangerous, just a sightseeing trip. All technology is banned as well. However, an accident occurs where the main villain (I suppose an investor kind of like Parker Selfridge from Avatar) ends up blowing up the area where Alexandria and her parents are hiking, out of impatience for visible results. Alexandria ends up falling into a sinkhole and is separated from her parents. She's injured her leg and can't move. This is her worst nightmare: being stuck outside in a dangerous spot without anything to help her. Alexandria starts to spiral into fear. But, who stumbles upon her but Feathers, the dragon? Dreamsworks could take the boy-takes-care-of-dragon trope from the first movie and turn it on its head. Instead, Feathers finds Alexandria and decides to take care of her. Alexandria is reasonably terrified, but eventually Feathers manages to coax her by giving her random food items like a dead fish and such, maybe chewing up some dragon herb and spitting it on her injured leg, and warming her at night when it gets really cold. Small comedic moments like that. Then she's returned to her home. But secretly, at night, she goes to visit her new friend. Feathers the dragon could also have a backstory that Alexandria finds out through the episodes. The dragon, due to its ability of invisibility, is maybe ostracized by the other dragons who prefer fight over flight. Feathers is rejected by the others and instead befriends a human who accepts Feathers for who they really are. In the end, Alexandria befriends the dragons, helps Feathers and the other dragons to become friends, ends up researching the dragons in secret, uses a combination of her new knowledge and her excellent abilities in modern technology to save the dragons and their secret, and also befriends the other kids who live on base with her. A girl who feels invisible finds a dragon who is invisible, and the two help each other to find their true place in the world. Anyways, I got way too excited and sappy about this concept. Unfortunately Dreamsworks only cares about pumping out repetitive garbage, so I have to make up more interesting ideas in my head.
I was about to write that dragon's are reptiles and therefore don't produce their own body heat, so feathers couldn't have warned her, but then I remembered I'm an idiot because dragons breathe fire.
Httyd 3 literally had the perfect ending and here they decide to make a series that takes place 1300 years in the future with modern technology which feels weird
How to train your Dragon saved my life. I'll start out by saying I was 16 when HTTYD came out, so I was way too cool to watch it. Fast forward 10 years. I'm now less of a moody teenager and more of a depressed alcoholic 26 year old. I've gotten myself into a rut for the last five years, working all day and partying all night. I'm stuck living in a trailer in my parents' backyard to have some sort of freedom without the drag of rent. I'm also working two jobs just to afford my shifty lifestyle. The location of my trailer home took me just outside of the wifi reach, but I've got an Xbox that can play blurays. I spent the first month borrowing movies, so I had something different to sleep to every night. I eventually picked up a copy of HTTYD 2, which I lost an entire weekend watching on repeat, I had fallen in love with the series immediately. I was always a nerd at heart but was mostly too afraid to show it. When I picked up a copy of the first movie, everything changed as it had the ability to replay itself after it went to the menu. After about two weeks, my "friends" had gotten worried about me as nobody had seen me out in a while. A group of people show up, each carrying a case of beer. I was completely enthralled in the world of Vikings and Dragons. This wasn't interesting to most of them, so they left. I was left with two friends, sitting there watching HTTYD. The summer goes by, as we straight up spent the next two months playing Pokémon GO and retiring to my trailer to watch HTTYD. I had found my people and myself. It wasn't too much longer before I had moved in with one of the friends in a house that he bought. We had almost completely dropped the alcohol together and were beginning to grow as adults. We got into the series on Netflix and actually just let ourselves be nerds. Flash forward two more years, and he has to move to stay close to his child. I had just moved in with my new girlfriend and gotten one job that made as much as the two I had previously. Now, here we are, we were each others best men when we both got married last summer. Both of us are now working toward advancing our careers and growing our families. None of this would have turned out the way it did. In fact, I likely wouldn't be alive anymore if it didn't. My life had been saved, by how to train your Dragon. Now, I watch the shows with my young neices and nephews, and life is good. Stay nerdy, my friends.
Forbidden friendship made sense with hiccup and Toothless it makes no sense with thunder and child. berk was at war with dragons if he didnt keep toothless a secret theyd try to kill hell the moment they learn about him they do try to kill him. ut no they humans are more misguided then at war. they literally just learned dragons exist it makes no sense for a Forbidden friendship narrative. if anything they should have done a friends from different worlds narrative
As much as I don't mind spiritual successors or next generations noq and then them trying to capture that nostalgia magic, but here this Isn't one of them, boss!
just if i hear the little music in a backroud - i got instandly in a happy-peacefull mood. This is my childhood. this, this is just amazing and i never gonna forget this movies. thanks for the little flashback to my childhood
Just a while ago I was thinking "The trilogy should be left alone. That's finished. But how cool would it be to have a series about the modern age? Have some scholarly type kid discover a journal written by Hiccup, amd chasing his cryptic clues to the Hidden World..." Then I heard about the supposed third series that flopped and here I am. Such a shame, because I still really like the concept
Just finished a HTTYD marathon (movies only) days ago and I can say: My life was better without knowing this existed. The took a whole leap back in every aspect.
The second I left the theater after HTTYD 3, I went home and wrote a fanfic with a similar premise to this where it takes place in the present day. The main difference was the characters, the main character being a descendant of Hiccup who lives in Europe and became obsessed with learning about his ancestry and Norse mythology when he was a kid because he's worried that there isn't anything that makes him special and he hopes by learning more about his ancestors he'll be able to learn more about himself as well, blah blah blah something happens where the hidden world's safety is compromised and dragons are spotted in various areas near the hidden world's entrance and by watching news broadcasts about it the kid realizes the dragons look exactly like the drawings his great grandfather left behind and goes and finds a dragon at a beach near his house and does the forbidden friendship scene accept there are other people there witnessing it, kid and dragon go on an adventure to fix whatever's wrong with the Hidden World and learn that tHe TrUE mAgiC wAs inSiDE THem aLL ALonG bleh. Anyways, even though I liked the characters and their arcs, and it was probably ten times better than Nine Realms, I took one look at it and realized something: This story sucked ass, and there was no way to make it not suck ass. HTTYD was a perfect series set in the perfect time period for the story to take place and there was absolutely no reason to tamper with a series that already had a perfect ending and there was especially no reason to take the story into the modern world. I deleted the word file the story was saved on and got rid of the laptop I used to write it shortly afterwards. After all that, I had only one comfort: "At least Dreamworks would never be stupid enough to write a story like that." ... ... ... it's 2 years later I've already been proven wrong I've seen enough I'm going back into my bunker for another decade or so
to be honest, i feel like yes the ''modern era'' is a good turn for the series, but i would've much rather had the great- grandaughters or grandsons of the original characters band together with the original dragons offspring to a new adventure, maybe rediscovering Berk after it was lost or, perhaps they would find their grandpas old journal of dragon logs and try and find them again, i feel like that wouldn't be too bad of a reboot right? but maybe not as an animated series, but as a movie if the original team add in the same animation style as the original trilogy instead, i feel like it would be amazing. So if they got the original writers of the trilogy back, as well as the animators/animation style of the original trology, i feel like it would be cool, plus the reviwes might be better if they actually listenined to their fans, and aiming the movie- if it were to become one, at an older audience, but at the same time attending to a younger audeince as well. i don't know, thats just my opinion.
This is sad to see. The How To Train Your Dragon shows always felt on par with the movies in terms of story and characters. I still remember how excited my siblings and I would get when Netflix would say that a new season of Race to the Edge was coming soon, and how sad we were when it ended. I still go back and watch the old show, and the movies frequently. This show managed to capture exactly zero of that magic, and I stopped watching after the third episode because I just didn't care.
I remember when I was still in elementary school came home to my family and the first time my father figure showed me the movie made me so happy so the first httyd makes me cry every single time
I love that the trilogy takes place in a mythical Viking world since it feels much more suitable for it, but taking place around the Modern World..... I have no words to describe it. Except the fact that taking place around the Modern day doesn't fit right with the trilogy.
I dont even feel the dragons would be alive during modern time probably all went extinct and if they didnt go extinct their existence is most likely unknown
i was terrified when this thing popped up into existence because it was obvious what they were trying to do, what they were gonna do instead, and what it meant for the originals. but i had an obligation to watch it to see just how bad it would be, and everything you said in this video is true. especially Alex cause she is the best character
they shoulda done How To Train Your Dragons anthology show of different time periods meeting the dragons briefly. i also think it woulda been cool if they picked any time period other than modern day. I woulda loved like an early 1900s explorers meeting the dragons.
As much as I love HTTYD and as sad as I was to see it end. Having this as the sequel? It just feels so..wrong? It feels like they’re just dragging it out, seeing how far they can go with it. It being in the modern world is also another…wrong?..thing for me, it doesn’t hit as much and doesn’t make me feel enticed to watch it, the animation also plays a part in this. Sure it’s more modern and all but the original way of the HTTYD movies and series just fits so much better. All in all, as much as I wish to have had the originals longer to stay within that small dragon-y world for a little bit more The Nine Realms was an utter disappointment.
This hurts me a little. I was born in 2005, I was a mere 5 years old when the first movie released. And I had that movie either on the year or within 3 years of release. It has been my favourite, most inspiring franchises. I loved HTTYD2 and T.H.W despite them being less great than the first- BUT THEY WERE STILL EXCELLENT. The films taking the idea of vikings was a great direction and them utilizing it in the three movies was great. When IU could watch snippets of Riders/defenders of berk when coming home I was ENTHRALLED. And RttE just filled me with joy. How every part of the show, despite some episodes clearly made for re-runs (think ATLA S1 episode that will NOT BE NAMED.), was truly respecting the original shows and the lore. I GREW UP with this franchise. And it changed me and made me cry more than any. Hiccup losing his leg BROKE ME even last week when revisiting. I related with Hiccup! I have been an outcast for the first 16yrs of my life due to unfortunate situations. I could sympathise with this kid who didn't fit in, like me, and was inspired how despite everything he became beloved for himself. And I was inspired by the sequels, enthralled by Hiccup's ingenuity and the advancements in the story. How To Train Your Dragon has been the most influential thing I had that would be around my full life. And my god, I am currently trying DESPERATELY to find riders/defenders of berk for free and in full so I can finally do what I couldn't as a kid: Learn about the full story. .... And then DreamWorks was bought by illumination. When I saw a glimpse of Dragon Riders, I knew I was in for deep shit. Something I loved most was the silent communication and how they could understand the dragons without words. (And as someone with ASD, even today I wish people could understand my intentions 100%.) And yet, they made them talk. I know that, apparently, because the kids grew up with them or something only THEY can understand them, but they still made the characters have VA's speaking human language. And Nine Realms being just a shitty rehash 1300 years later is EQUALLY annoying; Because they did nothing with it. They did NOTHING. You could have had the berkians either being a group that they are trying to discover along with the dragons (and some comments say find diaries of the OG cast) or learn about the downfall of their society. But no. It's just "HTTYD but 1300 years later and for BAAAABIIIEESS. Please DreamWorks, Illumination, do not turn this into fucking SPONGEBOB.
No because they ruined SpongeBob for me, that was literally my favorite cartoon until the most recent seasons came along. They made the show seem more goofier than it used to be like season five SpongeBob the facial expressions were so goofy yes they will be they’ll be funny but not a cringe, it’s so cringe for me to watch SpongeBob down because every little interaction they do that with each other Hass to be heavily animated for no apparent reason. So if I’m watching SpongeBob it’s not gonna be the recent seasons. Sorry for typing all of this but I really needed to vent and it’s great that there is somebody else who thinks the same way.
YES! HTTYD was my intire shildhood, seing this really destroyed me. I even cried. And I NEVER cry. It's so sad to see how this fascinating, original, beautiful movie turn into this. HTTYD always had a special place in heart. Though it would be very cool if they instead of this made a movie about the past. Toothless's past. Something light, not to heavy just to bring up shildhood memories. But this is awful. It's like they don't care about the happines it brings anymore, only the money. I can only pretend that the nine realms doesn't exist and go on with my life. This is to painful.
honestly feel it would've been more interesting to go to slightly older time period before modern day, have someone new stumble onto the dragons, not just a rehash of all the good characters but made more shallow. I mean, think of all the other time periods around the world after the vikings we could've gotten a look at and how they interact with dragons.
It's exactly the same with Spirit. I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched that movie, as to me, it stands as one of the best ever made. What isn't there to love about an amazing story depicting a journey to overcome the struggles and the challenging ordeals that life can bring, in a way that not only portray's one horses indomitable willpower, the inexhaustible resolve to regain his freedom and the unshakeable tenacity to return to the family he was taken from, but of those he shared that adventure with, after finding a kindred soul in the young native whose situation parallels his own, with the mutual troubles they experienced throughout eventuallly culminating into a bond that you know is hard fought for on the human's part, but well earned and beautiful to witness in the end, as even when they part, it's with a friendship that not only transcends species, but will last a lifetime in their hearts. And DreamWorks decided to turn that masterpiece into a my little pony rip-off, that not only includes a character with all the charisma of a piece of paper and the likability of a rash, but also insults the very essence of the film at its core and ruins spirit as a character, destroying the nature of what he stood for.
as a horse person, I cannot tell you how many of my classmates assume that show is my absolute favorite. the mention of that crapfest makes me gag. it's exhausting and I wish it would burn.
@@dogenboole I'm pretty sure the horse in spirit riding free is supposed to be Spirit's grandchild or something, but that's no excuse. you can't just ride a wild horse.
Race to the edge is my favorite because it connects the first and second movie It explained how hiccups father got a dragon. It also explained how gobber got a dragon
I wished they would just give us another season of Race To the Edge where they tell what happened before the start of the 3rd movie, like what they usually do with the series
HTTYD is the movie series that I’d watch for years and never hate it because of the story, characters, the visuals, and the amazing dragons. But the fact this exists hurts me to even sit down and watch the moment I saw the first episode and noticed the many rehash scenes in this show. If someone actually can stomach the show after watching the trilogy, then I want you to look back at them and rethink liking the show to begin with.
Remember when kid's shows/movies had good stories with real emotions? These companies just need to realize that kids are capable of more than a flat story with bad humor
When I came out of the cinema after hidden world, my eyes still red from tears, I knew in my heart that even though the movie trilogies ended that's not the end to the universe. That moment I also knew that whatever they are going to do next won't be for me, which is sad, but understandable, this on the other hand I did not anticipate.
I don’t know if the fact Toothless is clearly dead by the beginning of the show is better or worse. I don’t like how Thunder has replaced him (not to I question how so many of his species exist when Toothless and the Lightfury were the only ones left), but I'm also glad Toothless wasn’t around to be ruined by how this show would've portrayed him
Hng, hearing you rant about how amazing the HTTYD series was made me realize how genuinely important it was for me too, not sure how I went on for so long without really realizing it but it helped shaped the interests I hold today. If I hadn't watched the first movie as a child I would not be drawing my favorite characters as dragons basically weekly, I wouldn't make my own dragons, I wouldn't have the appreciation for fantasy and magical beasts, I'd be completely different if I had not watched the movies and original shows, now that I think of it, some of my own designs take inspiration from HTTYD, I also learned better dragon anatomy because of it too. The series also helped me in my writing skills, in a way, I have a lot to thank the people who made the shows, movies, and books for, huh? It makes me sad dreamworks is trying to milk every drop they can get out of this series well after it had an amazing conclusion, yeah I get it, kids like modern stuff, but is it so hard to just show those kids the original movies, and show them REAL content? This isn't just "keeping up with the modern world" it is erasing good representation of what growing up is like, what real personal development is like, even if it is set in a time thousands of years ago. One of the main messages of the last movie was literally learning to move on, learning that it is okay to let go even if it is sad, this show throws that lesson out the window completely. I hate that. I also dislike how they basically copied the movie, it's one thing to add similarities for the sake of nostalgia, it's another to be unoriginal. I'm not mad at this show, I'm disappointed.
I think the re-makes would be cooler if they were prequels from the movies, like how was stoiks life before, what was Valka doing in those 20 years, or even if we just got shorts from lives of the other characters on berk that were in the series and the movies. I would have more respect for that than this shizzy little re-make
For ages I’ve wanted them to make a show in between the second movie and the third cause I feel like so much happened in between the two films like the amount of dragons on Berk and the characters to and would have liked to see hiccup and his mother bond more and I would have liked to know more about all those villains in the third movie that are seen for like a total of five minutes but I guess we will probably be stuck with whatever the hell that shit is
@@firetrap6706 the series showed between movies 1 and 2, just after the first film ended and race to the edge being set 2 years later. we didn't get anything for between 2 and 3. can't really blame them tho. stoic left a massive void
@@whitemoonwolf13 We have a few comics about it like 2 of them IIRC. 1 and 2 had tie-in comics too but the one that takes the cake in the part are the shows even tho the comics are really great too!!
The original movies are one of the few case when being different to the books is a good thing and they did it well and it became it’s own thing. also I do highly recommend the audio books for them
The problem with all the how to train your dragon films is that they completely changed the story from the books. I loved the books. They were such a great story. But somehow they decided to go a completely different way with the films and that ruined it for me. I’ve never watched any of the films because of it
I haven’t even thought of how to train your dragon in a long time, yet it was something I absolutely used to love when I was younger. This video making me aware of THIS has just shot my childhood in such a weirdly depressing way since although I have very little attachment to the series now, it used to be like literally my favorite thing. I guess I’m just getting old enough to have things from my childhood go to shit, never really thought about how this would feel. It’s like reverse nostalgia
There’s one thing I find extremely laughable about Nine Realms, being that although shows like spy racers and Camp Cretaceous exist, it’s clear that this show had a decent amount of staff from either of them due to similar animation etc, yet somehow Camp Cretaceous (because I haven’t seen spy racers) is an actually decent show compared to this, and dreamworks wasn’t even involved in the Jurassic franchise before then yet they mucked up on continuing what is objectively their biggest property to date.
If they wanted to move to a different age, go to like a Renaissance Scandinavia. People are exploring lands at that time so why not have the Scandinavians go try and find some new lands that have dragons? Would be very cool to see a Renaissance society that was built with the inclusion of dragons for the last 400-ish years.
If I were to be completely honest if they wanted to make another series they should have done something to do with their kids and how they grow up and watch what happens to hiccup and Astrid + others)) but it would also be like just continuing on the movies. But still and series where the kids get there own adventure would be very cool
I’ve seen the original movie enough times to recognize the animations and movements of the kid eating the fish nugget are the exact same as Hiccup’s when he had to eat the fish. Shameless
I watched Race the the Edge as it came out and let me tell you I was on the edge of my seat to watch EVERY new season and was CRUSHED when we got that definite ending to it!!
My best friend had to watch this movie with me since we were nine because her brother had the dvd. I am so happy that I didn't miss out on such a great movie
That's how I felt about Toy store. All 3 movies wrapped it up so perfectly and we had a perfect ending. Same with How to train your Dragon. No idea why these studios cant just end really good movies... and just make a new IP.

I agree it was too fast, but maybe it was faster bc Hiccup tried to kill toothless, so he was obviously less trusting.
i feel like it got rushed
Not to mention they also had a REASON to bond because Hiccup helped Toothless fly again. I haven't seen nine realms but i dont think thunder's injury would have been that bad considering he could still fly by himself
Maybe bacause unlike Toothless, Thunder learn to like humans before...why I even defend this stupid show !?
maybe it in their genes now lol
You know, wouldn't it be better to have the story focusing about the rediscovery of the dragons (mainly meaning hiccups legacy and what became of it through the ages). You know having the main characters finding hiccups old gear that is somewhat ragged and destroyed and going to find the hidden world through the "journals" of the original characters.
Oh my god I would sob
That would be a perfect end to an end of a movie. I don't think I would've honestly seen a better ending ever

@@ArbiterofTruth if my mother pretended she was dead for 20 YEARS and left me with a father who didn't understand me, to go rescue some endangered lizards, I'd be mad. Nine realms seems like a first draft for the original movies that was scrapped in favor of what we got but some corporate stooge one day stumbled upon it while looking into some old paperwork and plopped it in the writers room and said, "THIS IS GONNA BE REVOLUTIONARY!!!"
first draft of the original movie was definitely worse

Would have been a very different, low stakes flim. Tiny terrible Terror toothless was not intelligent or cute.
This first draft was meant to be faithful to the books, but man it was lacking big story or excitement required to be the flim it was.
They scrapped it because DreamWorks big boss saw the script and said the ending was great but where was the story?
In the end, they had to make big changes to story, and keep only the location, names and characters.

It isn’t just nostalgia for me, it’s a part of my childhood that I’ll hold onto forever.

the fact that the first movie, which was made in 2010, has better animation than the most recent show really shows something about how much they care
The other shows look better than this one😅

Honestly it feels weird that the modern version of HTTYD wouldn't know of dragons.
Yeah they wouldn't know of modern, living dragons but surely there would be plenty of dragons in the fossil record or even burial sites found with dragons in them (I find it hard to believe that Berk didn't have at least one dragon pass away at some point before the Hidden World was discovered). We even have that one island from the show made up of a giant Bewilderbeast fossil! Modern paleontologists would be all over that thing!
Did really every wild dragon in the world choose to hide in the hidden world because I find that hard to believe and very silly.

I would argue that even Camp Cretaceous had more heart into it than this show, at least they got me to care about main characters
Camp cretaceous was pretty good. Cept for season 4. Actual caca
I have to agree Camp Cretaceous had more heart in it than Nine Realms but hey it’s okay in my own opinion
If Dragons: The Nine Realms was made and created by a fan of the original trilogy it could’ve been better
Blame illumination bc it’s there fault they forced dreamworks to make this
It seems like all the newer animations have this sort of rounded out, simplistic designs that I suppose are meant to appeal to children( it’s mostly used in shows and fils directly for young children) but it really makes older viewers automatically view it as a child’s film/movie, no matter who it’s targeted for
Appealing to young children is a lie. Young kids don’t complain if the animation is cheap and those designs are way cheaper to animate.
Nine Realms made mepuked my whole breakfast, lunch and dinner on the day the trailer released
It was such a bad memory that i remembered this reaction of mine
"Legend says that when the ground quakes or lava spews from the earth it’s the dragons. Letting us know they’re still here. Waiting for us to figure out how to get along. Yes, the world believes the dragons are gone, if they ever existed at all. But we, Berkians, we know otherwise. And we’ll guard this secret until the time comes when dragons can return in peace."
A great quote from the hidden world movie to reflect on real life, an absolute inspiration
Until the same studio decided to butcher it just from the nine realms existing alone, aside from all the rehash
The franchise's did what it did, let it rest
at least from my POV anyway
And if they DID reboot it,have it BE about the berkians. Have the dragons be tales, hiccups descendant wants to find one as he believes they're in danger, as they've been sighted recently. He searches for the lost world and finds an injured dragon.yes, its similar to the first movie. But it WORKS. far better than THIS

How about Reign of Fire and Dragon Pilot.
This is just my opinion but I disagree . The story plays in an older time for a reason, dragons made more sense in the viking times, not in the modern days. It doesn't fit at all and it's poorly executed. Dragons, even if they existed, don't fit into our modern world.
@@pumba12305 fair enough, I respect your opinion
I had an idea for a modern httyd spinoff which I personally think is much better than this show. An archeologist searching for remains in an old Viking settlement in unearths a stone engraved with dragons and clues to find something. The archeologist decodes the clues and follows them one by one, eventually finding an old dragon egg preserved for centuries, and instructions on how to hatch it. This would include lots of lore from the movies, tv shows, and books, as well as being more amusing to the adults who grew up watching the original movie.

“thunder” looks like the offspring of Toothless and the Lightfury
They should have created a unique story about the kids discovering dragon fossils on an island formerly known as Vanaheim or whatever and then only Thunder (with a more creative name) showing up, but way more mysterious and cautious.
This sounds perfect not gonna lie
Thunder is such a lame name, if they want a call-back at least name the thing Bright Fury or something
I'm sure they'll head that route eventually.
I really wanna watch it now that you have brought out that outcome. Damn I wish that was real.
add a transformation to that, like the kids getting changed into dragons and talk with the dragons, in time they become ambassadors, since they are 2 species and there would be future generations like that, making dragon-human hybrids.

Mortifying
And to add on that we want hiccups kids to ride the dragon right not a random teen 💀
They werent even trying
“great job” on the originality 😂
Now that the review is out, I can say that I was right to skip this. It looked even more lifeless then I originally thought.
Why couldn’t they just make like a mini-series or specials between the second and third films (I saw mini series because we only have a year between films this time). At least that would help continue the story of our favorite characters and see how things changed. Anyone else wonder how Valka adjusted to everything? Hiccup adjusting to chiefdom? The nine realms demonstrates why it would be hard and stupid to do something in the modern age, as well as being a disgrace to the three other movies.

Why didn't they just make Alexandria the main character then? She's got loads of character and has a cool background for an interesting story. (I know nothing about The Nine Realms so most of this is speculation based off this video.)
Picture it:
Alexandria, a shy agoraphobe who has a hard time making friends, is brought along on an expedition to scout out a potential demolition area.
This is surprisingly complete

After all that, I had only one comfort: "At least Dreamworks would never be stupid enough to write a story like that."

to be honest, i feel like yes the ''modern era'' is a good turn for the series, but i would've much rather had the great- grandaughters or grandsons of the original characters band together with the original dragons offspring to a new adventure, maybe rediscovering Berk after it was lost or, perhaps they would find their grandpas old journal of dragon logs and try and find them again, i feel like that wouldn't be too bad of a reboot right? but maybe not as an animated series, but as a movie
if the original team add in the same animation style as the original trilogy instead, i feel like it would be amazing.

I love that the trilogy takes place in a mythical Viking world since it feels much more suitable for it, but taking place around the Modern World..... I have no words to describe it. Except the fact that taking place around the Modern day doesn't fit right with the trilogy.
there is a severe lack of modern dragons. sadly they messed up here

they shoulda done How To Train Your Dragons anthology show of different time periods meeting the dragons briefly.
i also think it woulda been cool if they picked any time period other than modern day.
I have ASD too! If you’re looking for more httyd content that isn’t the one realms, there’s books! There’s also riders and defenders of berk.
Did you find a way to watch riders of berk? Bcs i am also looking for a way to watch it.
This is to painful.
holy shit that's long
I'm not reading that
honestly feel it would've been more interesting to go to slightly older time period before modern day, have someone new stumble onto the dragons, not just a rehash of all the good characters but made more shallow. I mean, think of all the other time periods around the world after the vikings we could've gotten a look at and how they interact with dragons.
It's exactly the same with Spirit.
I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched that movie, as to me, it stands as one of the best ever made.
What isn't there to love about an amazing story depicting a journey
to overcome the struggles and the challenging ordeals that life can bring, in a way that not only portray's one horses indomitable willpower, the inexhaustible resolve to regain his freedom and the unshakeable tenacity to return to the family he was taken from, but of those he shared that adventure with, after finding a kindred soul in the young native whose situation parallels his own, with the mutual troubles they experienced throughout eventuallly culminating into a bond that you know is hard fought for on the human's part, but well earned and beautiful to witness in the end, as even when they part, it's with a friendship that not only transcends species, but will last a lifetime in their hearts.
And DreamWorks decided to turn that masterpiece into a my little pony rip-off, that not only includes a character with all the charisma of a piece of paper and the likability of a rash, but also insults the very essence of the film at its core and ruins spirit as a character, destroying the nature of what he stood for.

I would have more respect for that than this shizzy little re-make
For ages I’ve wanted them to make a show in between the second movie and the third cause I feel like so much happened in between the two films like the amount of dragons on Berk and the characters to and would have liked to see hiccup and his mother bond more and I would have liked to know more about all those villains in the third movie that are seen for like a total of five minutes but I guess we will probably be stuck with whatever the hell that shit is
they did, the series did show everything between the show, and also some great villanes,
@@firetrap6706 the series showed between movies 1 and 2, just after the first film ended and race to the edge being set 2 years later. we didn't get anything for between 2 and 3. can't really blame them tho. stoic left a massive void
@@whitemoonwolf13 We have a few comics about it like 2 of them IIRC. 1 and 2 had tie-in comics too but the one that takes the cake in the part are the shows even tho the comics are really great too!!
The original movies are one of the few case when being different to the books is a good thing and they did it well and it became it’s own thing. also I do highly recommend the audio books for them
Indeed but then again, toxic degenerate stans still hate because....
The problem with all the how to train your dragon films is that they completely changed the story from the books. I loved the books. They were such a great story. But somehow they decided to go a completely different way with the films and that ruined it for me. I’ve never watched any of the films because of it
It’s funny that the animation for when Alexandria is on screen somehow gets noticeably better
I just want to say this too. They picked THE most AWKWARD markings that made the already awkward proportions of this dragon even WORSE
1300 years then how did toothless daughter survive
they had such a good run. i felt like they were really enforcing my childhood with hidden world and then they stuffed it all up with this... thing!
Mom can we have how to train a dragon?
Mom: No we have how to train a dragon at home.
How to train a dragon at home:
I want to forget that this series ever existed... I'm not the only one who cries at the end of the hidden world every time I watch it, right?
Nothing will ever be better than the httyd trilogy
I disagree
You literally have no idea what your talking about
HTTYD is great but I can make a decent list of better movies alone.
@@vergl569 Like Shrek.
@@mapleflag6518 Yeah. Also LotR and The Hobbit are both on a completely different level from HTTYD. Tho both are trilogies but still.
How to rehash your dragon!
honestly I thought toothless kids would be in the movie and I thought the main characters would be hiccups kids 😭😭😭
