Fun Facts: Its a blink and you'll miss it moment, but Kai actually has Tai Lung on his chains, he's the only jade zombie he doesn't summon I've seen the theory of Kai's turning was because of his fear of losing Oogway, he felt too weak to keep him alive so he tried to get stronger (through questionable methods) to protect him, only for Oogway to "betray" him Kai's eyes glow green not because he's undead, its because of Jade, he made his blades out of Jade and his zombies jade because Chinese mythology believed that Jade had supernatural properties
I think the reason why Kai became the way he is is because oogway was actually one evil bastard himself before. Then after the pandas saved his life he decided to put down his weapons and become a monk. Kai who only saw the “war version “ of oogway didn’t like the idea and thus felt betrayed
"What is better - to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?" -Paarthurnax I like your theory regarding Oogway because it has a similar ring to Paarthurnax's story.
What I love is that Kai's hunger for Chi is essentially an addiction. It doesn't matter if he exhausts the resource he needs to get Chi, he just needs it.
Kai is underrated and has one of the best theme songs and JK Simmons puts all his voice into his characterization! I wish they could explored more of his past/relationship with him and Oogway a bit. He may not be good as Shen or Tai Lung, but he is not as bad as some people portray him to be.
Fun fact: I heard somewhere a while ago that the 3rd Kung Fu Panda was actually going to be WAY more brutal than our current version. But due to complaints from parents on the 2nd film, they backed down on the brutality, which sadly made people think that it was the worst of the 3. But now that there's a 4th movie that is way worse, I hope people realize that the 3rd movie was still pretty good.
Okay, i want to get some things straight, also because the third film is my favorite. Kai is not an evil character just for the sake of evilness, his background is all about vengeance. This all began when Oogway was healed by the pandas, as before that, Oogway could also have been considered an evil character. As mentioned, Oogway and Kai considered each other brothers in arms, but because Oogway left that life of war after being healed, Kai felt betrayed by him, as he felt as if he‘d lost his brother. In trying to regain that important person, he tried to get stronger by consuming others’ chi, as he had feared Oogway would consider him weak, and that that was the reason for him leaving Kai‘s side. The final mortal fight between Oogway and Kai was the moment Kai realized he could never reach the strength of Oogway, which was a thought that spread so much fear in him, that he wanted to prove Oogway wrong. As we know, he failed in doing so, and because he felt so betrayed, lost, weak and exposed that he swore to prove his superiority. With the years, his power grew, and with it his hate against Oogway. Because of that, after he returned to the mortal realm, and because of his hatred against Oogway and chi itself, he wanted to destroy everything Oogway had ever created and take all chi to himself, trying to prove his worth not to Oogway or the world, but simply to himself. So yes, while he is an evil character, i think he is still deeply misunderstood, not in that he isn‘t evil, but that he isn‘t an evil person. Thats btw also a large aspect, i think, because while in the beginning he only wanted to match Oogway‘s strength, everyone saw him as an evil person, which might‘ve caused him to get exactly what everyone saw in him. Some deeper explanations, for which i don’t have evidence but which would make sense in my opinion, are: He might not‘ve been able to learn chi for himself, for some reason, which might‘ve caused him to search for other ways in the first place, as he, again, felt exposed of his weaknesses. Kai might‘ve developed some kind of addiction to stealing chi (as we don’t know what it causes in people), which could be another explanation for him continuing after reaching his original goal of overcoming Oogway.
I think that you have made a mistake. In the first part of the movie, when Kai was battling Oogway, he didn't have the chi of master crocodile and master storming ox at all. He gained their chi later along with mantis and crane. Also, I think that Kai wanted to erase all of Oogway's memories by taking the chi of all of his living students, not just to get powerful.😅
I like Kai. He's my favorite KFP villain because of his lust for power and his strength and attitude. He's the only villain who gives respect to Po and was the nearest to defeat him.
You know, seeing KFP didn’t register as Kung Fu Panda in my head at first despite the video this is but instead registered immediately as Kentucky Fried Phoenix
I think the main problem with Kai isn't Kai himself, but the fact they make a gag out of no one knowing who he is, it turns his introduction from menacing to funny and thus far more light hearted than the introduction of Tai Lung or Lord Shen
I’m so happy to find literally anyone who enjoys this third movie. I don’t particularly think that the third movie was better than the second or first. But I’m sure that it’s still a great movie with an incredible villain.
TRUE ! iT JUZT NEEDED MORE FLESH OUT & A DiFFERENT ENDiNG, SOME TALK NO JUTSU BETWEEN KAi &, OOGWAY, PO, MAY B EVEN SOME OTHERZ PROBABLY WOULD'VE WORKED GREAT HERE ! [NOT YELLiNG, JUZT LiKE TYPiNG iN CAPZ]
I think Kai should've won in the 3rd so there'd be a sequel where po can really shine after dealing with the lost. 4th movie would be about Po getting serious not being goofy, learning chi and raising up an army to stop Kai (The Jade Emperor) and then having some epic fight that would have to work with Po's Body, Mind, and Spirit all within unison inorder to beat Kai. And after all that? KUNG FU PANDA 5 BABY, new dragon warrior? Maybe? Idk
The third movie is the weakest in my opinion, not because of Kai, but just Po's journey. The whole ending where Po just becomes all powerful just doesn't feel.. earned. It doesn't help that I just heavily dislike the trope of a character spouting BS and lying to trick the main character, at least when it's supposed to be a side, good aligned, character doing it. Kai himself is pretty nice, I do love Kai
Honestly I always enjoyed Kai. He had a simple motive but his unrelenting greed and dangerous presences made him a villain I enjoyed. Personally I’d say he’s the most powerful Ku g Fu Panda villain
Kai treated like a joke by master shifu is definitely where his momentum fell. While I absolutely love humour in KFP3, Kai getting roasted by oogway, the five and Po doesn't help in elevating his villianism like that of Tai Lung. Had Kai's backstory got just some more context (or) made some atrocities similar to Shen, the third edition would have been much better.
Problem is, Kai was a warlord from five centuries ago in the KFP timeline. Shen was a current booming threat. Kai was dead by that point so nobody knew who he was or what he did. Oogway proceeded to spread his teachings of healing throughout the Valley of Peace so of course many know him. Tai Lung was also an infamous threat by that point during KFP 1. Imagine if Genghis Khan started wreaking havoc again in Asia in 2024. Nobody would recognize him.
Kai is not nearly as interesting as Tai Lung and Shen, and I'm not a fan of his voice. But his design is great, and he is a really threatening villain. My main problem isn't that he's simple, I just wish there were a little more to him. I also wish they made less jokes about him.
Something you missed is that the additional reason for Kai claiming living masters was to basically wipe out Oogway's legacy and anyone with ANY connection to him.
In my Personal Opinion Kai in Kung Fu Panda 3 had Vast Amounts of Potential as a Main Villain I dare say that he could have been Much More Compelling as a Villain.
Now that we have the three villains from the three movies from Kung Fu Panda I challenge this guy to make a video about the villain from the fourth movie, also congratulate for your videos, really good content of characters.
Oogway’s betrayal, which I talked about in Schaffrillas’s video on KFP 3 was a theory of interest. I always saw it as this: Oogway began to mellow out and became more humble with his teaching/learning of chi from the pandas. While Kai was grateful for them for healing his friend, but the power of chi pondered his mind. Chi was the life force of all living beings, as shown by Oogway and the pandas. In his eyes, chi was power, power that he lacked… power that was unable to protect his friend. Kai would also learn chi, but unlike his brother and the pandas, he learned to rob the chi from others and use it to empower himself (how he’s able to create the jombies is up to debate, maybe he figured it out while in the Spirit Realm) With Kai’s new found worldview and appetite for power, Oogway saw that his brother was falling down a dark path, and as much as it hurt him… Kai had to be stopped. Even when Oogway bested him, it filled him with sorrow… he was forced to fight against his brother and seal him away.
I really love your videos, they’re very entertaining and interesting. I’m curious, could you do a video on a Well-Intentioned Extremist villain or other types of Anti Villains. Like the villains in Legend of Korra or Kingpin or Miguel from Spider-verse?
Excellent video as always, love what you do!! I'd love to see a video where you tackle the writing behind D-16/Megatron from Transformers One!! "How to Write a Descent Into Villainy" perhaps??? :0
I always thought his motivation in the film was just pure Revenge. It was never once mentioned in the film he wanted world domination so idk why Toon thought he wanted to take over the world. Toon if you're reading this let me know how that thought came to you. From my point of view i always saw it like this : Kai and oogway lead an army not sure if it was for liberation like an rebel army or if it was a army of conquest, but either way they got ambushed one day and i assumed it might have been an assination attempt probably from within their own army. Why do i think that? I mean why was it just Kai that was carrying oogway to the mountains alone if the assination was unsuccessfull?i think the ambush was planned within their own ranks which is why Kai and oogway couldn't just go back to their army after they survived the ambush. Oogway's own army had turned against him and Kai was the only one who was loyal to him and stood by his side despite knowing death was at door. So he carried an fatally injured oogway deep in the mountains for help and found the panda village. After the panda healed oogway and taught them to use chi, Kai saw this forgotten art of chi manipulation as a way to take back control, it was meant to be their way to turn the tides of the war. But i guess oogway had an effiphany after a near death experience by the hands of his own allies, that war was not the way. But Kai was already set in his decision so after oogway stopped Kai, he saw this as an ultimate betrayal. He almost died protecting oogway but when they found a potential way to take everything back, oogway didn't stand by his choice. And so, they fought, he lost and spent the next 500 years thinking about revenge. Taking oogways chi was simply not enough. He had wronged Kai, so his taking revenge by taking out all his students, destroying the jade palace, oogways legacy, and the only thing left was Po, the dragon warrior, oogway's successor and also to finish what he had started, to take the chi of all the pandas. He wants to right what was wronged of him, the glory that was robbed of him. Okay i guess now i can kinda of see why he might've wanted world domination now.
As someone pointed out probably in the comments a jade pendent we see and never gets used is everyone's favorite big bad from the first movie Tai Lung. I always found it out that he kept a powerhouse like Tai from swinging on Po, specially if he did think about it, Po was probably the reason Tai ended up in the spirit world anyway so a run back from the first movie would of been perfect for Kai. I remember someone making a theory that the reason Tai Lung never gets summoned is because if Tai remembers being bested by Po from when he was alive, he might actually break free of Kai's control and not only want revenge on Po for sending him off but also on Kai as well for turning him into a pendent, and it's because of that possibility that he's never summoned
Also the fact that Tai Lung's chi would probably be massively powerful. He was the only one to overpower his opponents by kungfu alone. Even Shen had to resort to misdirection and cannonrym
While Kai is a great villain i just think Shen is a more intimidating and evil like he is basically the reason anything happened and lets be honest if Kai was still a mortal Shen would probably make him into a beef burger in five seconds
You did not address Master Shibu said to Kia I will not let you destroy ohgway memories KIA said in retaliation why not he destroyed mine you forgot to explain the details about that
I have a theory: What if the Wuxi fingerhold (WXF) was first used by Oogway to banish Kai to the Spirit Realm? We know their battle ‘shook the earth’, something similar happened after Po fought Tai Lung, released energy blast was so powerful refugees few hunderd meters away felt it. Kai is aware of WXF, he knows what’s going on when Po tries to skadoosh him. The WXF has to be at least 500-600yo. What if Oogway after turning into a monk, discovered kung fu, fought Kai. To put the end to an intense battle Oogway used WXF on surprised Kai. Oogway after loosing his ex-friend thought WXF is so brutal it doesn’t deserve to be considered a real thing. To avoid WXF being connected to him, Oogway created a fake persona of master Wuxi and covered the story with mystery and fear (just like with Kai's origins). Oogway thought of a new ‘more humane’ last-resort move - the nerve attack he didn’t use untill Tai Lung. Oogway continued his life as mentor and kung fu teacher. From time to time he used to scare undisciplined students with the ‘WXH myth’ so after hundreds of years everyone considered it an actual myth. After many years Tai Lung tried to get the Scroll by force, Oogway stopped him using the nerve attack. This one time it was shown to him even after 20 years in prison with no practice was enough for Tai Lung to learn the nerve attack as he was very talented. Tai Lung was surprised Po actually figured out WXF before disappearing into oblivion. In the Spirit Realm Tai Lung got captured by Kai. Kai didn’t knew about master Wuxi being the ‘creator’ of WXF as he went straight up with ‘’Oogway thaught you this little trick?’’ after Po tried using WXF on him as it was Kai’s last memory of ‘the mortal realm’ - Oogway using WXF on Kai.
The fact you can send YOURSELF to the spirit realm using the finger hold makes me wonder if Oogway did it to himself in KFP 1 because of all the cherry blossoms and stuff. did he just want to go to the spirit realm for his ultimate inner peace?
im intrested about the spirit realm, it looked destroyed, but what if that happen because kai wreck it? what if centuries ago its just a chill and peaceful place and suddenly a bison come and fighting all the kungfu master around wrecking all spirit realm in the process.

I think they are both psychopaths. Shen too is unable to feel real remorse for his crimes, he didn't really regret the genocide nor the pain he inflicted on Po. They both only care that they have been wronged by people they actually still truly care for.

4:20 a duck and a rabbit, not a pair of duck, but a pair of a duck and a rabbit, maybe!
Yo, he not a fckin yak. African Buffalo, beeyich.
He should make a video about how not to make a hero or how to make a hero, just a suggestion.
While Kai is a great villain i just think Shen is a more intimidating and evil like he is basically the reason anything happened and lets be honest if Kai was still a mortal Shen would probably make him into a beef burger in five seconds
he has green kratos swords and chains neat
You should do a villain breakdown of David Xanatos from Gargoyles.
Ah yes the true conclusion to the series
You did not address Master Shibu said to Kia I will not let you destroy ohgway memories KIA said in retaliation why not he destroyed mine you forgot to explain the details about that
I have a theory:
What if the Wuxi fingerhold (WXF) was first used by Oogway to banish Kai to the Spirit Realm?
The fact you can send YOURSELF to the spirit realm using the finger hold makes me wonder if Oogway did it to himself in KFP 1
because of all the cherry blossoms and stuff. did he just want to go to the spirit realm for his ultimate inner peace?
First of all, I thought Kai was a buffalo. And didn’t Po’s dad wear Master Flying Rhino’s armour?
0:10 - 0:25 Are we Talking about Mordekaiser today or what?
srry totally playing to mutch lol lately
*Kung Fu Panda 3*
I think death and Kai are on the same scary level.
Yeah but Kai is a more comedic and bulky villain than Death but their character designs are definitely intimidating
Tai Lung: Best Vengeful Villain
Lord Shen: Best Genocidal Villain
General Kai: Best Supernatural Villain
The Chameleon: Best... umm... villain?
3/4 for W villains in king fu panda, sucks cuz we didn’t even need a 4
I loved Tai Lung and Kai
Fun fact: Kai is Kai!
im intrested about the spirit realm, it looked destroyed, but what if that happen because kai wreck it? what if centuries ago its just a chill and peaceful place and suddenly a bison come and fighting all the kungfu master around wrecking all spirit realm in the process.
I still still think kai is an extremely underrated villain in kung fu panda
Uhh no he's fairly rated along with Tai Lung and Shen there are no underrated KFP villains
Some talk of Alexander,
and some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander,
and such great names as these
But of all the world’s great heroes
There’s none that can compare
With a tow, row row row , row row row
To the British GrenadiersNone of these ancient heroes
ne’er saw a cannon ball
Nor knew the force of powder
to slay their foes withal
But our brave boys do know it
and banish all their fears
Sing tow, row row row , row row row
For the British Grenadiers
When e’er we are commanded
To storm the palisades
Our leaders march with fuses,
and we with hand grenades;
We throw them from the glacis
about the enemies’ ears
Sing tow, row row row , row row row
For the British GrenadiersAnd when the siege is over,
We to the town repair
The townsmen cry ‘Hurrah, boys,
Here comes a Grenadier’
Here come the Grenadiers, my boys,
Who know no doubts or fears
Sing tow, row row row , row row row
For the British GrenadiersSo let us fill a bumper,
And drink a health to those
Who carry caps and pouches,
And wear the louped clouthes
May they and their commanders
Live happy all their years
Sing tow, row row row , row row row
For the British Grenadiers
I wonder if we’re going to learn how to write either an authority figure villain or a corrupt villain?
Authority villain?
Hunchback of Notre Dame.
@ Do your research
Fun Fact it wasnt kai who changed it was master oogway
i was JUST watching kun gfu panda 3

Now do Maleficent in your next video.
Sooo can we expect an episode about world's best dad Bondrewd?
4:19 I don't think those are ducks
IF u watching these videos just know. This is pure review of the character only. It wont really teach you. Plus most often u also get full movie recap for free if you dont want to watch it. SPOILERS XD
Gotta stop calling these videos "how to" when the vid is a 22 minute summary of the movie.
kia i a bit like drath nihilus if you thick about it
you repeated a point a little too many times
You really, really, REALLY liked to repeat yourself in this vid to stretch it out. MAde it pretty hard to listen to.
I’m sorry, this video feels so AI generated. From irrelevant points, to blatant mistakes (such as 4:19).
He’s a bad villain tho
Who?
No matter what people say to me. Their is only 3 kung fu panda films. The new one was trash in its story telling, characters, and its visuals
Tai Lung and Shen were much better villains than he and the Chameleon.
I’d say all the first three villains are better than the Chameleon imo
you got one thing wrong , in the story itself they explain that master oogway and kai were evil , they waged wars and killed a lot , but once oogway get injured but after getting healed oogway learns kindness and care and justice but when he tried to convince kai , but kai went on being evil which led to the banishment of kai
they fucking ruined this franchise with kung fu panda 4
Still only the third best KFP villain. Amazing, but not nearly as good as Tai Lung or Shen.(blows the Chameleon out of the water)
In my opinion Shen is a sociopath. While Kai strikes me as more of a psychopath
I think they are both psychopaths. Shen too is unable to feel real remorse for his crimes, he didn't really regret the genocide nor the pain he inflicted on Po. They both only care that they have been wronged by people they actually still truly care for.
ngl this movie was mid
This guy is just kinda yapping. Get to the point bro
