    It is such a great honor to have Jack Norris of VeganHealth.org and VeganOutreach.org in the mix, a true gift to this world. This was a long drive, sleepless night, and just the first stop in the beginning of a long journey last year before having to drive into Ft Lauderdale's historic rainfall in 2023. I was suppose to do a follow up in route with Paul Chatlin but that fell through. Next thing my Airbnb is flooded, I'm at a last choice bnb next to a screaming loud train track running 24/7, the event I was going to do interviews at in Ft Lauderdale of vegan bodybuilders got all thrown in a shuffle mess with less than ideal corners and hallways to shoot in, trying to sleep in my car in Miami for a 6 am interview, etc.... One of the most intense runs I've done for this channel. I still have more content to release from that year ago run, and I'm super excited about all I'll be releasing next.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 місяці тому +6

       @BloodyRosie Honey is not vegan. Jack is vegan. I do know some vegans though that have honey from their hives that they had before they went vegan. Everything about them is vegan and probably more vegan than most vegans. I'm talking about large-scale veganic farmers. And these people are doing more for the vegan community and world than vegans criticizing people about honey. We don't want to normalize this so I don't try to talk about it too much. But obviously there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting excess honey (*some systems allow to access excess without disturbing the hives) from a hive and allowing the bees to come and go and even leave if they want away from the veganic farm. I'm trying to stop 200 million animals from being forced into existence and slaughtered everyday. So I'm trying to normalize veganism. And this interview does that very well. Watch the interview and I'm sure you'll enjoy 🙂

      @@BloodyRosie I hope you don't mind my elaborate response. I appreciate your comments very much, you seem genuinely open minded unlike some of the other comments I've been getting lately lol. I may have been projecting a bit in being so verbose because of how controversial this video came to be. I had NO idea anyone would disapprove of me doing this video in anyway and had no idea there was even any drama. I am nonetheless as grateful and maybe even more now because perhaps this can be a chance to clear things up for good people doing great things. So, my response was speaking beyond here. There are many heroes in the movement and most of them have something on their social rap sheet. This channel isn't about that really. So, I don't seek that kind of information.

    I track on Chronometer and find that I get all the nutrition that I need every day - actually way more than I need. So, my question is about excess on a Vegan diet: I get about 10 mg of manganese almost every day! Have you found anyone who has had problems with too much manganese?

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 місяці тому +2

      If you go to his website he pretty much covers every single nutrient veganhealth.org/manganese/#:~:text=Bibliography-,Summary,manganese%20found%20in%20the%20diet.
      It looks like there's never been any reports of vegans having too much manganese that we are aware of and it hasn't really been studied very well in vegans either but you're right that it is easier to get more than you need on a vegan diet. Apparently making sure you get enough vitamin c at meals to increase iron helps offset that.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  2 місяці тому +2

      Years ago I used to micromanage my nutrient intake, at least I did it long enough to kind of see how I was doing overall. I got real neurotic about it for a second, started asking doctor who is plant-based questions about rdas, she told me to rest assured that as long as I'm eating a whole food plant-based diet that is varied like I have been I shouldn't have any problems. She didn't encourage me to micromanage my nutrient intake. She explained that the rdas are two standard deviations above what the average healthy person needs. And the more I explored the more I found the less I need to worry about being neurotic about my nutrient intake.
      I do often say a well-planned vegan diet. And I suppose a well-planned one would consider nutrient intake. For me that just meant realizing oh I need to include certain foods occasionally for things like vitamin e. So now I have sunflower seeds when I can find them raw and unsalted. And some b vitamins looked a little tricky so I just make sure I consume nooch from time to time. But because we are busy people, most of us anyways, it's probably a good idea to take a supplement like something maybe Dr Fuhrman sells that's specific for vegans and just has a little bit of iodine and a little bit of zinc and so on just to make sure in your hectic life you're getting some of these things if you're not eating a proper variety or enough for example because maybe you're just too busy. I have just been taking B12 and vitamin D though personally. But I do often think it would be cool to start taking a multivitamin that's very honed in on just a few nutrients that may be of concern in the very long run. :)

    Of all the vegan diet experts out there, Jack Norris is one I respect more than almost anyone! Good get!
    Disappointed to hear he's associated with the "effective altruism" movement though. And he was disappointingly utilitarian in some ways. The ambivalence about consumerism also indicates a certain pro-capitalist, low empathy approach to policy that feels a bit utopian and technocratic. Many activists don't see the food companies as an aberration, but as a permanent feature of the system with a permanent, in-built incentive that's ambivalent to human health.
    So, weirdly, I find his deep analysis (what little I could glean from a 2-hour interview) flawed, while his credibility on the topic at hand is nearly unmatched. I wish we'd hear more from him.
