      Why does veganism need to be pushed? It isn't anything other than a choice of what you want to eat, no one should be brow beaten to eat a certain way, it definitely shouldn't be pushed and it shouldn't be encouraged for children and young people due to nourishment and developmental problems.

      Thanks so much for watching and sharing. Most of these are run and gun and I don't really know what I'm getting into. I wasn't planning on interviewing anyone in the beginning it just fell in my lap. + In the beginning I thought I was just going to be doing compilation so I didn't really think I needed to be in these at all. But I gradually worked myself in when I realized I needed to keep doing this, this way for now at least. This interview is actually a couple of years old. I just held on to it like many of the others I'm going to be releasing moving forward so that I can release it strategically based on what's coming next. A lot of times I'm in a rush doing these as well for various reasons usually outside of me. And doing this alone there's a lot to juggle, everything from scheduling, getting gear ready, traveling, setting up in the best location based on where they are at, being as accommodating as possible, making sure the audio, framing, exposure etc were all good while figuring out what I'm going to ask next while also listening, while also being extremely exhausted because I usually don't sleep when I do this, while also being an emotional wreck because something invariably happens to make things even more challenging, to be ecstatic the entire time until I have to come back home where I don't want to be ultimately, to then having to edit all of this which takes like three to five times as long as whatever I captured, And then finally rendering and uploading and packaging to schedule for publishing, then dealing with comments, then the website development which is even harder, I don't have much of a life anymore to be honest but I can't think of anything better to do with my life so I'm just rolling with it LOL. And to make it all astronomically insane, someone else can just stand in front of their phone and get a million subscribers rattling off whatever or zooming with someone. And they can produce like 30 videos and the amount of time it takes me to do one of these. But I just want to do the best I can so we put our best foot forward and showcase how awesome all this is and the most inspiring way that hopefully encourages others to tag along with us... Thanks for the feedback! I wish I had a team or at least one more person helping. I could do so much more which I just had somebody on the regular in the mix. Anyways back to the grind! Have a great day 🙂 💚

    Good interview, but I don’t think she is correct about the claim that Japan was a vegan country for 800 years. I just looked this up online, and the references I was able to find said that in the time period she is talking about, fish was still a part of their diet. Hence, they weren't even a vegetarian country.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      I understand what you're saying. I think what she meant is that based on the information people had and their access to food this was the best they could do and the most vegan they could be. I think she was also saying they ate predominantly vegan, which really is a weird thing to say, more accurately they were plant based. But, the point is they were for the most part sustaining on plants. People may not have killed needlessly, that would be wasteful and it wasn't as easy to do, and of course they had to do it directly so it may have appeared more violent making it only something done out of necessity. And it is that presumed effort to only consume animals out of necessity that made them vegan forward at heart. And even the definition works with this. I like thinking of the past in this way because even vegetarians were trying to be vegan I think. I think they truly felt like they weren't hurting the animal just using their secretions. As for fish they may not have understood that fish are sentient. Some people don't even call fish meat. I've heard some call fish a vegetable.
      Nonetheless you're correct but at the same time I feel like so is she. On the spectrum going from vegan to carnivore those she is referring to were far more vegan than carnivore. And it is a beautiful thing to frame things in this way.
      It's also like when someone says everyone is vegan they're just brought up to be different, against their nature.
      What people are doing now Is needlessly exploiting animals, harming them, and harming their self as well. In the past it was probably more out of necessity. People are so separated from the source now they're being conditioned over generations to becoming indifferent to exploitation and abuse and that is not vegan at all. The people she is referring to were not this way during the times she referring to. At least that's how I interpreted what she was saying...

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      also, if you look at a vegan today compared to someone eating fish to survive then, the vegan today is probably causing more harm accidently than a person occasionally eating a fish for a very small portion of their diet back then. The vegan today is still of course vegan. But, death is inevitable. Vegans have the smallest bloody footprint. But, I imagine the bloody footprint during the time she was talking about was probably smaller. The vegan today may inadvertently or indirectly killing animals via a wide range of lifestyle choices. 800 years from now someone is going to say we weren't vegan then because we drove cars, went on cruises, flew in planes, ate invasive resource heavy processed foods, used toilet paper and cleaning supplies, lived in invasive spaces beyond our needs, used devices and appliances that probably caused harm somewhere along the production chain, and so on. As vegans we do the best we can. Vegans kill, we just genuinely try not to as much as possible and as a result we kill significantly less and live more contiguous with our ethics doing as much as practicable.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      @@EugeneKhutoryansky Considering that she is from Japan and lived there and that is her culture I imagine she might know more about it than a mere Google search. Perhaps the amount of fish they were eating was not enough for her to come to the conclusion that it was necessary for their health. When I have looked into this before, It may not be as easy right now but 7 years ago I looked into this, There are public military records from when we Occupied Japan and documented their diets. It was predominantly things like sweet potatoes and straight up plant based to the point of only having about a very nominal single digit percent of animal. so perhaps it was not enough to come to the conclusion that it was necessary for health and therefore consistent with it being in the context of what she said...

    For anyone interested in the history of Japanese food culture & relationship with animals, I found this introduction in English; 'Henceforth fishermen and hunters are to be restrained: towards a political ecology of animal usage in premodern Japan' by Mark Hudson & Irene M. Muñoz Fernández, from Asian Archaeology Volume 7, pages 183-201, (2023).
    There's also updates such as; 'Digesting modernity, healing with nature: The birth of a 'natural' food movement in Meiji Japan, 1905-1910' or 'Food as medicine: the cultural politics of "eating right" in modern japan, 1905-1945' both by Sookyeong Hong.
    Given the timing of heer experiences on both the West Coast & in Japan, does anyone know if Miyoko had any interest in shokuyokai, aka Zen Macrobiotics?

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      Awesome can you elaborate on this more? I might even pin this post 🙂

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      Something I would like to pin to this. When people think about veganism prior to it being coined they can apply the vegan principles just as well. And that is to not exploit animals as much as practicable. Prior to veganism being coined the only way practicable it seemed based on the limited information and access to food was being vegetarian. Especially when this was intentional And on the premise of presumed necessity And on the assumption that the animal wasn't being hurt. That clearly is vegan intent And obvious sign that we have been moving forward in veganism that far back. Veganism was coined and developed during a time where food was in excess and exploitation has become vastly out of control to the point it's demonic. To be vegan in this Day and time is to take advantage of these times of access to information and food industry efficiency. Now more than ever we can be vegan to the extent of not eating animals at all And this is probably why the term was coined when it was. We needed a word for it more then and now within advent of all this increased accessibility. We needed it at this Crux of all this change to remind us of our true nature as we became more separated from the source, separated from the kill, desensitized from the process, and rendered oblivious to the unnecessary excess, violence, and invasive nature of exploiting animals. As vulnerable people habituate to this separation they are no longer considering their innate tendency toward empathy in making a decision because they are so separated and conditioned. So we need veganism to wake people up now in this time where people are veering away from it's incredible potential as humans evolve.
      Unfortunately billions of people are eating mindlessly. They are not killing animals out of necessity. The industry has gotten out of hand. The cultural mores are vanishing. Veganism brings us back to Earth, it restores our humanity, it works to create the most non-violent lifestyle and future possible. People really always wanted this and we see reflections of this throughout history. But it wasn't until now that we needed to define this in the face of inadvertently losing our hearts most notably because of a careless industry and government + perpetuated by ignorance and indifferent. But the truth is often faced with resistance and opposition until it is finally accepted.

      @@VeganLinked I am sorry you found my comment offensive, I was born in a vegetarian family and when at University in the 80's I became a vegan and have been on wholefood plant based diet for over ten years. The content you produce is commendable.
      I was once challenged by a colleague That I was a vegan because I did not like to kill, and he put to me that plants are also living, so my premises was wrong. It took me sometime to realise that indeed that something has to die for me to live. If I do not eat I will certainly perish. From this standpoint one has to make a choice , and I was hoping I would get some answers. Never mind a rebuke is ok...my choice for being plant based is simple, when I harvest a plant/fruit I can disperse the seed, take a cutting, etc and help in propagating that which died for me. Whereas, when I kill an animal I can do nothing for it, none of the animal remains can be used to propagate that being which died for me to live. Of course I do not have the high technology which claims to do that now, even so I am happy with my choice and live in harmony with nature. May you be happy.

      @@harvinderubhi5540 You're not going to certainly perish eating legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices. And by eating plants directly you're contributing to probably 20 times less death. So hopefully you didn't start eating animals to only kill animals intentionally on top of twentyfold more accidentally while also killing more humans as you increase the likelihood of deadly pathogens and zoonotic disease spreading. Not to mention the horrible violent jobs that you're paying people to have to do. Not to mention increasing your risk for chronic disease because you never learned how to eat properly.

This kind of logic is what animal eaters use sometimes so it's hard to understand where you're going with this. Plants lack the anatomical and physiological characteristic of sentience. Before trying to formulate an opinion about whether or not something is vegan you might want to first figure out what it means. Vegan is not a diet philosophy. It just so happens to be that diet has the biggest impact. It is a philosophy to not exploit animals as much as practicable. In this day and time with unprecedented and unfettered access to information and food we now can be Vegan more than ever. But in the past veganism, while it was not coined yet, strides were being made in the form of being vegan forward in their efforts. What she is saying is people didn't needlessly exploit, abuse, and ingest animals body parts, organs and secretions like they do now at all. Their diets were overwhelmingly predominantly plant based.

      "In Denmark, we're mainly talking about a diet without much meat. Only the richest nobles could afford to eat meat dishes every day, and for the vast majority of the population, meat-focused dishes was a luxury, largely reserved the major holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. The only widely available meat, was fish. Cabbage was so important in medieval Danish cuisine, that the oldest Danish word for garden is kålgård, meaning "cabbage plot." Peas were also extremely important to Danish cuisine, in multiple forms, but not the modern green ones, most people think of... Mainly the hard yellow and grey ones, that were dried and needed to be boiled or stewed for a long time to be edible.
      Ofc. there was also things like bread and such.
      Onion and garlic were known to be used as sources of flavour, since spices weren't a thing most people had access to.
      Various fruits, apples and plums and such, were also popular, particularly the apple, with many of even the poorest farms having an apple tree."
      "Cereals remained the most important staple during the Early Middle Ages as rice was introduced to Europe late, with the potato first used in the 16th century, and much later for the wider population. Barley, oats, and rye were eaten by the poor while wheat was generally more expensive" .
      "Strawberries are actually native to Europe. The modern variaties are based on hybrids from South America. The native European species were edible though and were eaten. Many fruits were present in Europe. The Romans spread grapes and likely apples and pears. Brambles and raspberries, currants and many more are naturally found in European woods. Quinces, medlars etc. also grew. Many of these can be stored or dried quite well.
      Cabbage, onions, peas and broadbeans, beets, many radish like plants, other greens, carrots and relatives of them are also all native and were eaten in some capacity. Many common garden weeds are native to Europe and edible. Dandelions, stinging nettles etc."
      "There are tons of beans native to Eurasia. Peas (pisum sativum), chickpeas (cicer arietinum), broad bean (vicia faba), lentil (lens culinaris), lupin (lupinus albus). These are european/middle eastern/north african ones, and still eaten today. I am not counting plants from China.
      Of course gruels from barley, oats, rye, emmer, millet, spelt were a staple food for poor people. Cereals provide carbs, beans provide proteins. For fats, flax, hemp, sesame, olive (whenever possible) was used.
      And of course genus Brassica was widely used: not only cabbage, but also turnip (brassica rapa) and rutabaga (brassica napobrassica)."
      "We know a lot about cuisines before that. People ate lots of bread and grain porridges and vegetables that people today have barely heard of, like turnips"

    I'm plant based, not vegan yet, I just find it's very costly to buy everything vegan. Dairy products is something I love so much, yes I do enjoy some vegan none dairy products, the issue is I'm on a fixed income at this time so buying vegan products, is quite expensive you get a small 60z or 8oz bag for the same or more cost of dairy products. I'll be happy when vegan products cost less or at least the same amount as none vegan items with the same or greater quantity. It's sad in order to eat healthy you must spend so much more.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому +3

      I am really confused by what you're saying. There is literally zero requirement to consume Dairy. And you do not need an alternative to Dairy at all. So if you're worried about cost then why are you buying dairy when you don't need it? Also, the healthiest foods on the planet are the least expensive. Those are legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices. Many of these you can grow on your own, you can buy them in bulk dry or frozen, you can get them canned and that's more expensive but still super cheap, If broccoli is too expensive get broccoli seeds and do sprouts, things like red cabbage last a long time and are extremely healthy, the only reason why Dairy may seem affordable is because it's subsidized. But there's zero requirement for dairy. Drink water instead. Grow some herbs And make your own teas, that's extremely inexpensive and very enjoyable and far more healthier than bovine secretions. Miyoko's products are not a requirement to be vegan. They're just excessive really. And completely unnecessary. But they are definitely an appropriate alternative since I would rather spend a little more on something compassionate than spend less on something as violent and horrific as Dairy.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      In short animal agriculture results in more animals intentionally being killed than accidental deaths from plant agriculture. Not just more, astronomically more! And animal agriculture only results in 20% global Food intake. Yet plant agriculture results in 80% global food intake with less accidental death than the intentional death from animal agriculture. Plus animal agriculture also has more accidental death since it takes more animals than there are people to feed people those animals, like 20 times at least more animals. So that's 20 times more crop deaths in addition to intentional deaths. That's how gravely inefficient and unsustainable eating animals is.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      You might want to look into trophic levels to see how energy is lost further up the food chain. This is probably the main reason why eating animals will never be as efficient or sustainable or even healthy.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  Місяць тому

      But if you go to a veganic farm like I have been to several, I've even got them on video, it's easy to see that no animals are being killed. Go to a slaughterhouse though and all day long thousands are being killed, 200 million globally every single day are being slaughtered. Meanwhile plant agriculture has enough opportunity cost and waste alone to feed 20-fold more people. So instead of eating animals you could be eating plants and not even increasing demand and have a net death print of zero essentially because plants are so fruitful and already overproduced.
