I have been using Photoshop CS6 for quite some time and recently discovered Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo blows CS6 out of the water. In this video your result is great, and this is far and away the best instructional video I have seen. Thank you, I am definitely subscribing.

Wow what a great effect. Thanks for uploading this tutorial. I'm bookmarking your video for future reference. Just a thought, but is it possible to save what you've done as a custom effect, (or filter) to use as a kind of shortcut to add on to other images, in Affinity Photo.
Pleased to hear you enjoyed the tutorial MrBooojangles and you've bookmarked my videos :) You can record steps as a Macro (Actions in PS) but where brush strokes are used it's a little more difficult. My latest video ua-cam.com/video/6xIpWkmn_A4/v-deo.html would be ideal as a Macro and I may well do a tutorial on this soon, David

Can you do one that extracts a complex foreground (say, a tree) from a complex background (say, a forest)?

Great video-Thanks- Could you tell me what it is about the painted layer ( dodge and burn ) that allows the bottom layer to show through ( like a mask )? It works great but just wondering how.
Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video Ken Raymond. The reason that you could see the underlying layer is because the blend mode is set to colour dodge, you are looking through the Painted layer to the Background. Hope that helps, cheers David

Very difficult to follow without the picture to see the detail of, especially trying to translate to the ipad version.
Sorry to hear that you found it difficult to follow Paul Elliott. This technique does work on many types of images so well worth trying and as ever experimenting. Unfortunately I don't have an iPad otherwise I would produce videos where I would use it. Cheers David
