Between this, Infamous, Mercenaries 2, Saints Row 3, just cause 2, etc. I feel like the ps3/x360 generation had tons of these open world fun fests that elevated gameplay to the forefront and wanted nothing more than to make the player smile. Boy did we have it good back then

Funny you mention the “Prototype Guy vs Infamous Guy” thing, because when my mom was getting me a PS3 for Christmas, she said 2 of the workers were trying to sell her on one or the other as the game to get for me 😂 She ended up going with Prototype, and honestly it was the right choice for me. I got Infamous later on, and while I do love that game, the freedom of movement and the story was way cooler to me. I wish Prototype 2 had continued with some of the plot threads of the first game with the whole military conspiracy thing, as that was one of my favorite parts of the first game.
I remember exactly the parkour zeitgest yu’re talking about. That was a big reason why the first two Assassin’s Creed games were so big too, as well as Infamous.
Went this character climb into building and doing parkour is kinda give me vibes of spiderman PS4 you run around in the city doing stunt that so satisfying love this I think I should try this game looks fun
Hands down one of my absolute most favorite games of all time. Wish this would get a remake. Lol I used to grab a gun and become a soldier and shoot zombies while acting like it was a survival shooter. I didn’t allow myself to use melee attacks only guns
The best thing about this game is you think you're a good guy from the start. A guy that lost his memory and thinks he's the victim of a crazy government conspiracy that turned him into a monster. As you unravel the web of mystery and get back your memories, you find out what you really are and that you're really at the center of the entire web.
Replayed this game a few months ago and it’s still awesome. Still the best superpower game to this day in my opinion. The movement and combat are so satisfying and addicting. Only issues i have with it are that the boss battles aren’t the greatest and the story leaves a lot to be desired. Also this game can be so hard at times, sometimes unfairly but usually it’s a great challenge. It requires a lot of concentration and you can get your ass beat super easily for this being a power fantasy type of game.

Most people don't mention this but 1 has also great soundtracks, it's not like doom metal badass but more like being in time to stop the apocalypse while taking down awful, mind breaking conspiracies
One of the other things I liked about this game was the stealth. It wasn't all over but for some places you could be completely stealthy and not fight at all. If suspicions were on you you could draw their attention to someone else and get them eliminated instead which I thought was hilarious. I can't remember when I got these games but I did play the Infamous games and Prototype and loved them both. The passage of time has a tendency to either solidify or wear away at greatness. Truly great things often become even more great, while many things we can look back on and admit it was more about the time period of release than the actual product in a vacuum.
While I agree with the general sentiment of your statement, there are some games that don't age that well over the years, which is in contrast to movies, books, or films. There are some games IMO that aren't as great as they used to be due to their age, like GTA 3 or the original Super Mario Bros. Like, if these two games released as indie titles with different names in the exact same state today, no one would care about them and these games wouldn't get much critical-acclaim whatsoever. But back in the early 2000s and 1980s, these games were mind-blowing, revolutionary masterpieces. Not so much the case today. However, I feel like all good games from the 2010s and onwords will truly be timeless as I don't think the gameplay of modern games will age so poorly that they'll be regarded as bad in the future.

I used to choose a random pedestrian and follow him around, create all this backstory within the game's story. I never played prototype 2 tho and I think im gonna pick it up on next steam sale
I played Prototype for 10 minutes 1 time at a friend's house when i was like 12. For some reason, the bad assery of it stayed in my mind forever, and i truly played the games for the first time last week. And oh my God, i deprived myself far too long. The games have this undeniable "2000s trying too hard to be cool" vibe, but somehow still felt right. I loved most of the time I spent with them. They do have some glaring issues in both gameplay and plot, but i didnt mind too much. Its a unique experience to have nostalgia for a game you never fully experienced, and then get to play it foelr the first time while also having nostalgia goggles for it.
For some reason old games just hit different despite the clunky controls they are still enjoyable. I played Assassin's Creed 2 and 3, Brotherhood and now I'm playing Revelations. I might get Prototype 1 and 2.
I finally picked it up in the recent sale. I’ve always wanted to play it. I really liked Prototype 2 as a kid but never got around to the first one for whatever reason. Wish this series would return
I still play this game on the regular am currently at 60somthing million gallons of blood spilled. This is such a great game, the sheer amount of godliness you get to achieve in this game is excellent. Also If I recall Infamous launched a week or two before Prototype, I remember beating that game four times before trading it in to get PROTOTYPE and well.. I still have my copys of that.
A friend of mine played this game on his PC at the time and I remember being in awe with the graphics and movement. For a good while I thought Prototype was the most advanced game of its time (might have been an overstatement but I was a kid, what can I say). Had a ton of fun just watching him play.

I loved Prototype way back when it came out. It's been sooo long since I've heard about this game and I'm so glad to see you showing it some love! On a side note, are you considering doing a review of Nier Replicant at some point? I know you liked Automata so I was curious about your thoughts on Replicant too :)
I have immense nostalgia for Hulk Ultimate Destruction and Prototype 1 & 2. This style of sandbox game is so underutilized. Now imagine if *Insomniac* got to make a Prototype 3… which is honestly impossible now considering Activision owns the IP
Love prototype 1. And I love your content. When you started mentioning xbox games at the beginning and mentioned samurai warriors 2 my head just exploded. Really need to go back and revisit that
[PROTOTYPE] Is the only reason why I'm hyped for the Activision-Blizzard Microsoft to go through... Because a Modern Proto game on current gen or next gen consoles would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Sony gotta bring back the inFAMOUS games.
Am I the only one who's a fan of both Prototype and inFAMOUS?!?? I may favor inFAMOUS more but bruh both games are awesome. Played Prototype on my uncle's 360 and was hooked on Prototype 2 once I got a PS3 🔥 also the similarities between this an hulk ultimate destruction is awesome 🤣 just actually finally got that game and playing it now at long last. Was one of the kids who's mom wouldn't let me play hulk games, but I got to still experience Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Nemesis 😂🙏🏽
I’ve played both Prototype games, and they’re one of the good games ever made by Radical Interactive. They use the gameplay mechanic from Hulk Ultimate Destruction, and made it something unique like Prototype. Looking at this game now, makes me want to revisit this game on my PS3.
i don't fall in love with games instantly, but i did with Prototype, as well as Batman Arkham and AC Origins to name a few. i remember my brother watching a review of the game and i came down from my room for whatever. he called me over and said i'm gonna love this one. and i did, as soon as i saw few seconds of it. wanted it instantly. still replay it to this day whenever mood hits. tried the sequel, hated it instantly. Alex is my man. a villain? have you truly played the game or are you basing that because of the sequel where they turned him into a villain just because? Alex is an anti-hero. nothing he does is evil for the sake of being evil. his goal isn't to inflict pain because he wants to or likes it, all he wants is to find out what happened to him and to make whoever's responsible pay. sure he kills people to regain health, but that's the only way to regen and it's not his fault he was made to regen this way. plus the game wouldn't be nearly as fun if instead you cooked and ate and drank and were mindful of civilians, so there had to be a compromise between realism and gameplay mechanic. you keep saying you didn't get the story which is probably why you think Alex is a villain, but the story can't be any simpler if you paid attention and bothered playing the game as you're supposed to, meaning collecting memories because A) that's what Alex wants you to do since he doesn't have any and B) because you should want to, since you are playing a story-driven game. no, the game doesn't take away your powers, be mindful of phrasing. the beginning is near the end of the game, when Alex is talking to... not gonna spoil it, but the game takes us back to when Alex died so he can, on that roof, retell the full story of what happened. we never lose the powers he unlocks playing the game from start to finish, that start being like a prequel, a snippet, a trailer of what to expect, a hook to draw us in, as if the game needed anything to draw anyone who started the game in. if we started playing with all powers unlocked it would've been a shallow game lacking story and discovery. you don't start watching a movie from midway through and continue till the end, skipping the beginning, but you do watch a trailer and that's what the beginning of Prototype is, a trailer for what's to come and what's gonna eventually happen playing the game in its entirety. as for Infamous i had and still have zero want to play it. the powers, protagonist, story and world don't do anything to me as Prototype still does. there's just no comparison between the two, none whatsoever. whoever likes Infamous you can have it and i'll have my bad boy Alex instead.
My favourite thing was to body surf people in mid air, hilarious every time. P2 expanded on everything gameplay wise and was so underrated despite its lackluster story. Biohazard is on Xbox specials on offer so maybe that’s a hint for what’s to come such as OG cod!
I was an inFamous kid. I loved it from the start, something didnt really click with prototype but then prototype 2 came out and i fell completely in love and went back to the first game. Still loved infamous, but man i loved protoype as well.
My favourite bit abt this game is that at one point it was going to be a promo game for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 before it got cancelled, you can feel the Spider-Man influence in a lot of places
I remember finding this in a game informer from 2003 when it was the cover story. And since that time on the cover story when they covered the synopsis of the game and what you could do I followed it until it came out all the way until 2009 when I bought the special edition and got it shipped from gamestop to my house. Spent over $100 on this game. I member beating it and playing it a lot, now that being said I know it wasn't that great it was okay at best but alot of fun
Sometimes I still play this game just to run around with some music jamming. I like running on the road with the shield, launching a few cars up in the air then spamming slow motion and trying to hop on each of them before they hit the ground. Max I've ever managed is three cars in a row. Epic shit. Wish they added co op like they originally planned. Would have been perfect.
It's been a very long time but I don't remember being a straight up villain during this game. I thought the military group was super corrupt and bad themselves. Regardless this was an amazing game 😂
Prototype was the first real m rated game I was aloud to play rented it while we were staying in Colorado it was an awesome week playing my ps3 with Av cables diden even know what hdmi was at the time on a 1960s tv his basement was like from the 70s but then during the days I would explore the mountains with the family then I’d get home and bust down on this game it blew my mind and it felt like I was growing up!
When I was like 11 my big sister's bf from the time bought me this game, instantly fell in love with this game I was obssesed with both prototype 1 and 2, when I heard that the studio was shut down I was super dissapointed 😢
Prototype I remember that game. I loved it so much over Infamous second son. I got stuck on a boss fight in Prototype and I never went back to try and beat it. I moved on to playing Crysis.
Just went through a playthrough of Ultimate Destruction on the og xbox and besides some early missions once you get to the city its still so damn fun and feels good to control, still holds up : D
* I gotta say this Game Prototype is absolutely Legendary like growing up in the community and Also I like the character Shadow the hedgehog from Sonic yeah I notice they’re both edgy and Emo between Alex Mercer and Shadow the hedgehog cause they’re both Ultimate beings, I don’t know if Sega heard Prototype game from Activision I’m sure they noticed or not… well thank you!

Retro rebound is fucking life ❤
I was an early adopter (red ring of death and I missed this 1:( )
My favourite bit abt this game is that at one point it was going to be a promo game for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 before it got cancelled, you can feel the Spider-Man influence in a lot of places
Yess dude. HOW DO YOU ALWAYS MAKE VIDEOS AT THE PERFECT TIME?!?! I was just thinkinf about how much i miss prototype cuz of the merger
Without question one of the most underrated game series to date, I was shocked to find that the sequel did badly even though it's such a fun game
What do you mean "this month we have no big games coming out" what about pikmin 4? Why dont you do a video on the old pikmin games? That would be cool
I’m the inbetween with infamous and prototype. I love them both for different reasons
I’ve always liked infamous and prototype equally.
One of my favorite titles period. Would love to see it revived.
Prototype is a fun ass game.. really enjoyed it when i finally played it last year.. the combat and movement system felt pretty amazing..
Prototype was always better than infamous to me. It made you feel like more powerful then infamous
My Xbox 360 nostalgia is Skate 2 😂 not sure if that’s weirder or not.
The story is pretty easy to understand.
Extremely underrated game! Sweet video.
It's been a very long time but I don't remember being a straight up villain during this game. I thought the military group was super corrupt and bad themselves. Regardless this was an amazing game 😂
This series deserved better if the devs were able to do prototype 3 I’m convinced it would have been a masterpiece
Bro I had no clue about the ultimate destruction connection. I love that game. I'm an infamous fan boy but I may have to actually try prototype now
If a M rated Venom or Carnage game gets made it needs to be like the prototype game
You know a game is epic when someone who has never played it (me) knows the protagonist's name by heart
Started thinking about this game a few years ago when watching Vemon
Prototype was the first real m rated game I was aloud to play rented it while we were staying in Colorado it was an awesome week playing my ps3 with Av cables diden even know what hdmi was at the time on a 1960s tv his basement was like from the 70s but then during the days I would explore the mountains with the family then I’d get home and bust down on this game it blew my mind and it felt like I was growing up!
Wanna talk about a retro game: Custom Robo. Very niche Game Cube game that was probably one of my favorite games on the system.
You can easily find copies of this game used
They're both on sale, just bought them can't believe I'm finally about to play them for the first time after all these years
Colin sent me here 😂
Literally the coolest and underrated game I know.
When I was like 11 my big sister's bf from the time bought me this game, instantly fell in love with this game I was obssesed with both prototype 1 and 2, when I heard that the studio was shut down I was super dissapointed 😢
In my country we hadn't that discussion because Prototype was forbidden...
Prototype I remember that game. I loved it so much over Infamous second son. I got stuck on a boss fight in Prototype and I never went back to try and beat it. I moved on to playing Crysis.
ProJared and Maximilion dood had a child?
I played this game and missed out on it's rival; Infamous.
Dang, you gotta play infamous
I found infamous very boring actually, you ain’t missing much ;-)
Such a great video Matty!!!
8:13 idk if its exactly what you have in mind for a villian game but there i LEGO DC Super villains.
In my personal opinion I think Alex was more of an anti hero. But I loved watching this game. Hopefully later I am able to play on the PS5 this year 😁
We need a sacred symbols plus of Infamous Vs prototype
Prototype 1 and 2 are awesome. I really wish we got to see a movie out of these games
Loved the Prototype games so much I got the Platinum Trophy (100% Completion) for both of them on both PS3 & PS4 😬
I hope you have that framed on your wall, tough platinum
I have heard about this game, but never played it. Love the look of the gameplay style though. Cool video.😎
