I can tell you, you make this so easy for new soapers to have a recipe that actually works!!! It is also cheap to make. Far more so than the one I created as a skin care formulator, lol! However, mine is for use on faces really, not that you can't use the recipe you gave on your face, but is probably a better body scrub! I always love coming here to learn new things. I've never taken the time to think of using soap shreds for this purpose. I have a couple hundred different products to formulate with is my problem. So I don't always look at the simple way to get something done. I spend hours doing complicated crap that nobody gives a hoot about. Until they use a product, then they want to know, lol! Like I said I love to come here yo learn, and your a great, easy teacher! You don't fail anybody, and I love that! Have a good night Chantine! Jill
I have been here since day 1. I LOVE the your channel!! Sorry I can’t afford to join. I’m a maker but have had to put all that on hold to work 60+ hours a week so I can move. My savings was dismantled from my cancer bills. I hope to see you in the discord soon! Just thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and explanation of the chemistry behind it. You are an amazing person!!!❤
A HUGE Thank you ! to Mrs. Soap & Clay for sharing ALL your very intensive knowledge of Soap, various ingredients & especially how all the various ingredients work together . You are a treasure trove of valuable information. Your background in Chemistry definitely shines through in each video & helps to increase my knowledge around so many aspects of formulating not only soap but other products as well . Sharing all this information is truly kind of you . Best wishes & bubbles Naelah
I have to take time to say THANK YOU! I have been wanting to make the soap paste and then sugar scrub since you first showed us how. I never did. Today I decided why not try this soap shreds version and see how it turned out. It was easy, worked well and will be made again. I'm sorry that your process was questioned by others but also grateful that you took time to clarify. For me personally hands down best whipped sugar scrub I've made or used.💕👏
I’ve never had a problem with your recipes! You are so kind to shared your knowledge with us. I will definitely tried this because I have tons of shreds and will share the results ! God bless you!
YOU ARE GOD SENT💜 I have tons of soap shreds I didn't feel like rebatching. I love your channel, your personality and presentation is a rare commodity. Some others can be so boring 😴 thank you so much for your time and chemistry.
I have to say, for as long as I have watched you, I love your no bs kinda get to the point. I also feel everything in your intro is spot on. I have tried many many of your recipes and loved them all. Also if it isn't exactly what I want, I use GOOGLE key words that fit, rather than bash any tuber because I got my knickers in a knot. You are awesome.
Glycerin is a humectant for the skin but acts as a mixer or solvent in recipes. In whipped sugar soap scrubs for example, combines with the base and helps desolve the paste to make the whip. That's the way I understand it. 🤷♀️ Damn! I even answered that before I watched this video! 😂
I did it! Thank you so much for your great videos. I watched them before, during, and after. I used bars of soap that I made 3 weeks ago. They didn’t look great but I loved the smell of the lemon balm essential oil I used in it. So instead of rebar hung I made this sugar scrub and it is wonderful! I still have a lot of paste to use after making a test batch but I’m sure it will be fun finding uses for it other than sugar scrubs. Thanks again!
Hello! So if someone used some of their regular cold process soap they made for this recipe instead of the 100% ,would the amounts still be the same or would the composition of that soap change the amounts? Thank you in advance ☺️
Questions 1. if glycerin is a by product of cold process soap why do we need more?. Thank you for all u do. I've made 1 ugly batch of coconut oil soap At 25% sf and u gave me the courage 😭. I do formulate my whipped soap with cocoabetaine and sci but want 2 try ur recipe. 2. Shouldn't the recipe be reformulated for account for the preservative and sugar? for ex Ex. 20% shreds 20% h20 5% glycerin 4.5% stearic 50% sugar .5% preservative I work best in %s Based on ur recipe just whipped soap % Is 35% shreds 35% h20 17% glycerin 13%stearic 3. Is low sf soap= add higher amount glycerin and high sf = add lower amount glycerin? Can wait to try experimenting.
This may be a dumb question but I didn’t see it addressed. Do you ‘cook’ your shred paste similar times to the original double lye paste? Btw-I love this idea for using shreds differently!
Always killing it with the videos! I’ve learned so much from you. You mentioned turning the shreds into melt and pour. Is that really possible? How would I go about it? Melt the shreds with water, cook the water out and then add glycerin 🤔 or cooking the water is not necessary. Just melt, add glycerine and pour it out in a mold.
Oh my gosh, this is such a fantastic video! I just shredded up a couple of fugly batches and will be making some sugar scrubs! I also happen to have about 25lbs of M&P base that I inherited from another soaper. Not being a fan of M&P bar soaps, do you think it would work to add your recommended additives to the melted M&P base, without first having to let them harden into bars and then shred them? I realize the M&P base already includes those additives, so I'm not sure how all that would play out.
Thank you for all you do!!! Question: I want to create a scrub that holds its shape but is a little squishy. Same basic recipe with the shreds, glycerin, sugar.... I'm wanting like a cube that stays a cube until I squish it, sort of the same texture as a soft bubble gum, like bubblicious gum! And obviously once wet and squished it would spread on the skin like yours did😊 what are your thoughts??? What would I do to this recipe to tweek it for those results?? 🤔 Thanks for your help!!
As a not baker, I appreciate the struggle cause that's what it looks like when I do it 😅. I could just climb into the washing machine after and kill 2 birds, 1 stone
Absolutely! It’s a bit of a crap shoot as to what your end product IS if you use loads of different oils in your recipes, but if you use the same three or four oils exclusively then it makes it easier for labeling purposes.
@@MrsSoapAndClay Awesome! I use the same recipe for almost all of my soaps. I'm going to try it out. Also going to try adding clay and no sugar for a shaving soap.
Okay so you might have said this and I just missed it - can you use things other than water just like you would when making the base soap, or are they more prone to spoilage because you’re adding them after the saponification has already occurred? Things like aloe juice, plant milks, juices.

So using the formula from the video it would be up to 0.6 oz? And I think you said to adjust the glycerin and water if adding oil. What would the numbers look like? Do you like the consistency of the usage scrub more with the shreds or paste? Sorry for all the questions 🙈

Stretching the fatty acid chain making it easier to whip?
It acts as a surfactant, right? Also aids in binding the additional stuff with the soap.

I use 8oz containers for my big ones, and 2oz for my sample sizes.
