- Tension in the Scandinavian region continues to grow every year, and the Nordic countries are looking for ways to strengthen their national security.
This is where the JAS-39 Gripen fighters come into play, these being one of the most important components of the region’s defense strategy.
In today’ video, we’ll be telling you why this Swedish aircraft makes Russian generals nervous, especially with Sweden and Finland joining NATO!
sweden has extremely strong engineering talent. I should know, having worked with ericsson for 12 years in their R&D division
I'll back that up! I'm retired, but worked @Ericsson Canada 16+ years!😃
that's false. everyone has equal talent in engineering.
😂😂😂😂😂.

@@waynetom9022 there you go. ericsson canada did some good work on CDMA maintenance after they purchased those assets from Nortel Networks.
I love the ability to takeoff & land from roads. Also the cost of maintenance.
The Pentagon should be taking notes especially the damn Navy And they're cracking battleships.
@@serronserron1320 IMO, the Pentagon should consider phasing out the Hornet in favor of US-made Sea Gripen. That way, they'll be able to have a low-high mix on their carriers.
What imprssed me the most was the improvement in the ammounts of weaponry , carring capacity, sustaneability and crew unteroperabilities- all keys to success for defence of the nation.
Nothing has been said in the video about the almost unmatched information sharing and network capability of this fighter which can be linked with several air, land and sea units and use their data and information. For example a formation of four Gripens can link their radars together to cover a vast area of sky. Now add the surface radars and AWACS radars ...
The real power of these aircraft is in the software, and from a security standpoint I'm happy they didn't mention that.
Norway has F35, Finland has F18 (soon F35)., Denmark has F16, (soon F35 as well) Sweden... does it's own thing. And they are damned good at it. Good luck hitting the newly forged combined Nordic air force. :)
CM that is the best conercial
Keep dreaming Sweden can't shoot a bullet towards Russia and get away.
As a Dutchman I was always surprised what kind of military stuff, cars and trucks Sweden builds. A country with 10 mil. Inhabitants make extraordinary quality stuff.
F35 is Draken (Dragon) which has been manufactured since 1955.
It laughable how proud people are to be a vassal state of the United States. Well, Lockheed-Martin and Boing will take Euros. Suckers!
I'm am an admirer of SAAB and I'm also a former employee of BaeSystems manufacturing,I enjoy these down load s and the sense of familiarity they bring ,good job!
The trade in killing people is always good business.
30 seconds, huh, pretty impressive; I hear the next model will do it in 28!

@@ollienilson1644 but why usa did not stop the sweden nuclear weapon ability? based on usa suggested "Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons", can you tell me why?
@@andwisestupid7465 Easy, because Sweden officially can't.
A smaller aircraft with a large payload, and having longer range is more ideal. When an aircraft is smaller and faster it becomes a more difficult target to shoot down. Being able to take a larger payload makes it more useful for getting the job done.
Clearly you have no ideea about military aviation.Su35 F18 heavy and big airplane are good
@@alfaromeo1819 So say's the Expert.
The bigger and heavier planes are still in service in USA, Russia, and many other countries.
These countries haven't replaced their bigger and heavier planes with smaller and more agile planes. I'm no expert, but I think it's obvious that the larger platforms have advantages which make them worth keeping around, preferable for most operations.
@@alfaromeo1819 Easier to shoot down for their size. The bigger the easier it is to reach the target.
@@pwnmeisterage The main advantage of larger aircraft is range. If you really have a need to fly long distances, then you walso want to carry more payload, as the cost and time of returning to refuel and reload will be much higher. Without those contraints, smaller is clearly better.
I HEARD IT WAS CLOSER TO 42 SECONDS. 😂 🤣 😂
Good luck I don't think anyone can destroy a country with one aircraft.
They meant one *type* of aircraft, not one single plane.
If it was a very small country and the aircraft dropped a nuclear bomb?
Vietnam or Afghanistan? USA wins never!
Would be very irresponsible to underestimate Russia
Right?! Very well put. Besides subs, aircraft carriers, ICBM's, ground troops, drones, ect. - no single weapon or plane is a 'silver bullet' to conquest.
Russians are thinking "It will destroy Russia in 30 seconds? I am excited. Let see it in combat"
i wish Canada had chosen this over f35
Wow! The whole Russia? In 30 seconds? Really?

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! JUST KEEP DREAMING, IS FREE TOO!!!
The avionics system is not only modular, but even very fast upgradable, as the only in the world. "upgrade in the morning and fly in the afternoon" is possible in most causes. This give Gripen the capability to carry nearly all weapons and pods for combat aircrafts in the world. Including targeting pods, EW pods and RECCE pods. The built in very powerful EW system with spherical coverage usually make extra EW pods unneccesary though.
Engine replacement is made in less than 1 hous at a forward base with 1 shipping container with equipment, 1 proffesional technichian and 5 conscrips. Mostly only a modul of the engine need to be replaced though, which is faster. Full rearming and fuelling take max 20 min. Rearming and fuelling for AA-mission take max 10 min.
As long as I was working, I had a collegue who was classed to do soldering work on JAS Gripen.
This fighter must have one big bomb if it can "Destroy Russia In 30 Seconds"! I think it may be so called Klickbait!
They mean that it would destroy Moscow and the entire government not all of russia
Why waiting if that is so good? Go for it, get it over and done and Sweden will never worry about it ever again.
Wow. I'm from Sweden and didn't know that we had a plane that could beat Russia in 30 seconds. 😁 It's so hilarious with those titles. And still what they present is just old news. But I love the plane on the picture. Looks badass.

Well, I was most fascinated by the bit that told you, as per the headline, how this plane was capable of destroying Russia in 30 seconds.......
I heard a story about German fighter pilots making fun out of Swedish pilots after beating them in simulations, so the Swedish pilots had enough and said:
"One more time?"
All of a sudden the Germans noticed Gripen next to them and had no clue they were even close, they got silent very fast after that.
Russian pilot: "They used all, no need to worry about them no more, they went home!"
Russian Generals: "DAVAI!!!"
*15min later*
Russian pilot: "Wait a minute..."
If you are a large nation the gripen can be a saturation style, air combat, and low-cost deterrence air power progection aircraft system

The light weight and manuvarability qualifys more experinced pilots. I'M NOW 92, but as a younger man, I remember it well...
Being able to cruise at super-sonic speeds without after burners is a very nice feature on this plane.
@c_1092 Until the day it self-destructed😨
@C _ It's impressive as not all fighters can do it. Gripen's competitors, F-16 and F-35 can't.
@c_1092 Concorde was a fantastic aircraft, especially since it was effectively designed without computers. When they designed it, there were no suitable engines, so Rolls-Royce simply had to create something suitable. When you think about it, quite amazing that an aircraft carrying 100+ people, all drinking Champagne and eating caviar, was flyting faster and over far longer distances than any ordinary fighter jet could, and still can. But the Concorde was unsuitable as a fighter aircraft.
@c_1092 Concorde used HUGE fuel tanks, a small fighter jet doesn't have that. And the competition can't do that.
And the Concorde can't start or land on an ordinary road, in less then 800 m. Gripen can. And it can shoot down other planes, like a Concorde, if it still operated.
You are comparing Pears with Mushrooms, so please continue embarrass yourself.
How can a 4.5 generation non-stealth fighter destroy "Russia" in 30 seconds? Do you mean it can destroy next generation Russian fighters in 30 seconds? No it cannot. Finland made a deliberate decision to purchase F-35's and not Gripens. The new generation Gripen is not really a "new" fighter, it is the latest derivation of a fighter that first flew 35 years ago in 1988. What the Gripen is is a low-coast alternative to competitors such as the Rafale, F-35, and new derivations of the F-16.
This is a very well rounded airplane that will be heard of for sometime to come.
It's great the way people on the other side of the Atlantic like to stir the pot in wars that are far away from their own country 😢
Very great aircraft, from a tiny population. Something to be very proud of!
Yet embarrassing to a Canadian, who since Diefanbaker axed the Avro Arrow we've become a joke. Don't get me wrong, our soldiers are fantastic. The government is stupid.
The Bombardier RJ-200 Regional Jet is no joke by any means. I made parts for that aircraft for some 15 years (in the USA) and it was my "bread and butter" so they say. Well respected by aircrews and ground personnel. I have flown on a couple of them too and being 6'3" tall I was very comfortable and would fly one again... Great job Canada !

As I see it:
Yes, Sweden has time after time shown they can punch way above what could be expected of a country of its size. 😀❗
I could think of another country with double the population and significantly more natural resources which - in spite of that, lack the ambition to emulate Swedens impressive achievements on many levels, including significant self- sufficiency with domestically developed and manufactured military equipment.😀👍
Yet on the opposite side of mother Earth we have Australia that semingly find the self-suficiency concept just too hard to contemplate, yet alone achieve.
That attitude has resulted in "significant foreign debt over many decades" and no sign this strategy is about to change anytime soon.
So, instead of the Australian people designing and making their own gear while creating employement and developing valuable skills locally, they order their fighter planes and overpriced submarines etc, from abroard and create employement elsewhere whilr creating a huge foreign debt for current and future generations to repay, if indeed they ever manage that.!!! 😩
It is a sad travesty that great oppotunities are squandred due to systemic apathy and lack of vision by those elected to make "good decisions" on behalf of the people they represent.💤
Stay safe. Niels 💖💕

The success of a platform depends on its success in the market, and Gripen did not show much. His sales are going very poorly. 28 in the CD version leased them in the Czech Republic 14 and Hungary 14, they are the only European users along with Sweden as a producer country. Brazil, when they are all fully delivered, will have 40 of them. South Africa has 26, Thailand 8 and that's where the story ends. The story of some supremacy over Russian planes is ridiculous!
The competition is very hard against Lockheed Martin and others that can offer so much more in terms of investments so it is not only the skills of the aircraft that makes it sell much.
@@NUMMEHARBEN The problem is also in The Swedish politics, which through the sale of aircraft wants to make an impact in a country interested in buying. Some of the potential byer's swedes themselves refused and most interested parties refused to buy because of such conditions.
The business of military aircraft is very complex. Technical and "fit for purpose" considerations are one thing. Another thing is financing. Military aircraft are generally co-funded or entirely funded by the countries that first request and specify them. All sales have to go through them. This means a lot of political considerations, trade deal negotiations ("we buy X planes from you in exchange for Y"), and other considerations ("let us bring you on a four-week trip to Z, all costs paid, with your families, for us to show you W").
Also, what SAAB is producing is effectively a software and hardware framework sufficiently modular to integrate specific products from other manufacturers, often in other countries. That makes Gripen highly flexible as they can pick and choose the best and most appropriate subsystem from any manufacturer in the world, but also vulnerable to political decisions. Any country where an important subsystem is made can block a deal because they, too, want to sell a competing product to the same potential buyer.
Mike from Elk Grove CA. Im impressed on the Advanced technology on the current aircraft that can adapt to various fighting conditions, computer technology to block aircraft and ground radars and able to fly at an impressive Mach speed, frankly the Mach eventually may need to be increased as other countries will adapt and adjust accordingly, to bad they they can't improve the skin of the aircraft to with stand gun fire to protect the pilot to help buy them time to live another day.
The modular design of the motor make increase in power easier. As the said, change the motor in one day. Or one module in 1 h.
It’s sad that countries feel the need to have and spend money on all these weapons instead of working together to make this planet a better world .
Some day...

Will we ever see an even more upgraded version the E/F, with turbo charged twin engine configuration, draped with stealth tech?
No. That is another aircraft, designed from ground up.
As it is a defence weapon, stealth isn't as useful as in an attack weapon. Only making the construction more complicated and delayed.
They dropped twin engine because of increased complexity, and not good enough that it is worth it back in Draken and Viggen. Doesn't fit into the operation it is supposed to do.
Apparently Sweden only has two of these aircraft serviceable at any on time

Further in the video it is stated what Sweden's intention is with the plane as well as why the industrial project was as it was and why the final design is as it is today.
Further questions about this public information, forward them to SAAB.
Let's summarize: built for a 50 year lifespan, systems such as the engine are designed in repairable segments that can make for faster repairs at lower costs, low operating costs, requires only a small ground crew to fuel and load weapons, can operate from short runways, flexible capability to conduct different missions using one single jet, capable of carrying multiple current weapons as weal as future weapons systems, advanced avionics, flight characteristics, and on and on. You can certainly tell this jet was not designed by American aerospace companies! Imagine how much the US could cut its military budgets with jets that are built to operate long term at lower costs. Maybe we need to be purchasing from Sweden.

The Su-57 carrying hypersonic R-37s says hi. And good luck if you happen to merge with one. Who knows how many Russia actually has battle ready, but I'm fairly certain it would take a miracle for a Gripen to win, unless they score a Meteor lock from BVR. So no, Sweden would not destroy Russia in 30 seconds....They would need the F-22 to have a chance, and the US isn't in any rush to make it available to other countries.

Agree. The R37M is virtually unmatched. Unless the plane too is hypersonic more than Mach 5, it will get 'killed' from 200 kms away. It's virtually certain that the Russians are holding back weaponry we have never seen before, so a statement like, 'destroy Russia in 30 seconds' is a big pork pie.

Thanks for your comments Mr. Putin😊
Two features interest me: low operation and maintenance cost, and ability to operate in cold winters. Canada has a major air force base in Cold Lake, Alberta. Winters are even colder than Kiruna in northern Sweden. And Canada used to have an air force station in Resolute; if relations between NATO and Russia continue to deteriorate, Canada may have to re-commission that air force station. As a "station", fighter jets would not be permanently based there, but could be temporarily assigned there during an incident or a period of tension. That would require fighter jets to operate there any time, 12 months per year. So cold weather operation is a concern.
Swedes are freaking smart with a 10 million population, and they've done all that. It's not like they depend on their immigrants for their success on the contrary. Unfortunately, I would bet that their educational system is probably changing for the worst.
