Yes, they are quickly heading in that direction. They sold the Book of Mormon manuscript because they could not pay their retired appointees through their retirement fund. They have sold over 50% of their church buildings. For a few months before they sold the Kirtland temple and other properties, we heard from a C of C friend that they were taking up collections for their retirement fund. When they started calling women to the priesthood in 1984, most of their most ardent tithing payers left to form restoration churches. Many people left when they started calling homosexuals to the ministry. They even have openly gay pastors. It will only be a matter of time before they burn through the 192 million and have to sell other properties. Before long, they will have nothing left to sell. It is a recipe for disaster. Their membership count has been frozen in place for years. They never update it. There is no way of knowing how many C of C members even exist. Yesterday when I was on their website, they are still listing closed churches as being open and active. Again, no updating.

Former RLDS/C of Christ member. I was an elected delegate forty years ago at the 1984 RLDS World Conference at which Section 156 was approved by a slight plurality of delegates which provided for females in priesthood offices and the building of the spiraling tower temple which was dedicated to peace in 1994. In 2013 homosexual marriage and ordination were approved.
As a result since 1984 the restorationist conservatives left and established their own independent restoration branches and took their contributions with them. There are not enough flaming liberals to fund the entire denomination. They have closing many churches then sell off the church buildings and keep the proceeds. I expect that the final payment of $192.5 million will not last the Community of Christ hierarchy very long. They have nothing more to sell off to the LDS Church!

According to the sales agreement, keeping the Kirtland Temple open to the CofC and others, is only a 15 year contract.

Here’s what happened to their outfit. They went woke and they went broke. That’s why I hope the Salt Lake City LDS # always remember to not go woke because when they do, I will quit being a tiding member which wouldn’t affect anybody anyway but I would probably have to cancel my membership and just become a spiritual person. #GoWokeGoBroke.

      I keep hearing this argument.
It’s confusing to me because the LDS church caved on interracial marriage, the LDS church caved on prohibitions against contraception, the church caved against bans on oral sex the church recently came out in favor of the marriage for all act, the LDS church has authorized the transgender baptism in the last year, I could go on
it seems like going woke, has nothing to do with going broke
Instead, it seems like the community of Christ dedicated a huge amount of its resources to alleviating human suffering and fulfilling its admirable mission initiatives
this is in contrast to the LDS church who has shamefully hoarded $300 billion

Absolutely correct. The flaming liberalism began around 1967 with the writing of a new church school curriculum. The major apostasy began in 1984 World Conference with the ordinations of females to the priesthood. In 1994 the spiraling tower temple dedicated to peace was dedicated.
That liberalism was not enough! The institution had to pander to the homosexual agenda. Homosexual marriage was approved in 2013, two years before the US Supreme Court! All of these changes have appalled restorationist conservatives who departed and established their own independent churches.

@MormonNewsRoundup if you are bragging about the Community of Christ helping the poor, etc, they may have helped the poor somewhere but their contributions are so small on a world scale to notice, qnd they are broke. The lds church is very well known for b3ing on the ready to help whereever natural disasters have occurred. One person in charge of cleanup and humanitarian efforts after Hurricane Katrina noted that the two most helpful churches were the Mormons and Latter Day Saints.

      bragging? I would say lauding.
whatever the LDS church has done in the humanitarian realm, is a TINY fraction of what it could have done. The same is not true for the community of Christ.

I am LDS. Here is why we have prospered in membership numbers and finances unlike the others: 1) we believe in eternal families sealed in temples by the actual priesthood authority and keys restored in the Kirkland Temple by Elijah which promotes large families. Our youth programs don’t keep them all onboard, but enough to keep us above water 2) we have an active missionary force to replace those aging and dying with new converts. The authority to do this was restored in the Kirkland Temple by Moses 3)we attached tithing to temple recommend status so you have to pay to play. This requirement has made the church rich 4)if it is not clear enough, we are the actual rightful successors to Joseph’s church and the fruit is in the pudding. I ask you, which of all the Latter Day Saint movements is favored of God while the rest are on life support? If you abandon the “one true church” doctrine like the Community of Christ, what do you have to offer by your religion. You have become one of the Protestant religions that made the restoration necessary in the first place.

The LDS church has primarily become a rich corporation by hoarding the widows mite (through both deceitful and fraudulent means) an appalling lack of philanthropic activities (when compared to its total valuation), and the amazing generosity of the members.
