  • In this video a friend an I rebuild an entire engine (1MZ-FE) with no mechanical background or knowledge. We did this to learn the basics of refreshing an engine so we can apply our knowledge to future builds.
    What you see here was filmed over a year!
    Hope you all enjoy! :)

    i always find engine rebuilds so pleasing. i once watched one that was almost an hour long with a guy just placing and torqueing down new parts to a engine block and it was just so great to watch

    The 1MZ-FE is one of the automotive industry's great engines. It runs like a gem, so sweet sounding. The MR2 will be a well driving car with this swap, everything it should have been from the beginning in fact.

    My dad had a workshop for about 15 years and i spent some time there in my childhood and teen years. I also helped him out a couple times while working on customer and private cars. I got a midschool degree on metal and automotive technology. Now, i just followed my passion and i am working in an IT dept in a big company. I WOULD NEVER HAVE THE BALLS TO RIP AN ENGINE APART MYSELF! :D :D :D PROBS FROM GERMANY

      Haha 😂 we're just lucky we got this engine for free and didn't know the condition of it, if we ruined it there wouldn't have been much of a loss

    That's exactly how i learn back in the day with my mates. Rebuilt Ford Cleavland & Windsors, 1HD's, manual gearboxes and even a rotary Toyota diesel fuel pump. Never paid mechanics to work on any of my vehicles and certainly helps if you break down too. Well done boys.

    Thank you so much for showing the rebuild.
    You performed the "lift it out if the body" as I am contemplating for my 1999 3.0L Solara. I suppose that the only way to take it out from a MR2.
    I love the clutch/manual transmission!

    you did a great Job with the video no doubt; there was a sequence to follow when you tear down an engine (an example would be that you should have removed the harmonic balancer, then the bottom timing cover until you can see the entire timing section; made sure to find top dead center with the crankshaft and the camshaft before you remove the tensioner and timing belt (I get that you had to rebuild but still); I would have loved to see a bit more lengthy footage of different parts (As I am sure it took longer to clean and put back together); Subscribed and will watch more of your videos; great job guys, you remind me of some of my childhood friends (Never lose that!)

    It is MUCH easier on you and the engine to remove the camshaft timing gears with the timing belt on than after removing the timing belt tensioner and the belt.

  • @jozsefizsak

    I wonder if the snorkel is still on there. It's just a big parachute and if it's actually opening into the engine bay then it's also adding pressure where you don't want it and interfering with cooling, which is not a good idea by any means. The very rare original 3 piece kit connected directly to the air intake on the 3S-GE. The stock setup has the intake right at the side scoop to get cool outside air so if that can be accomplished with the V6 then it would be worth doing for sure. I do rather like the look of the thing but making the car worse would be a good pl;ace to draw the line. Say no to degradation!

    • @RexH
      @RexH  3 роки тому

      Oh man Jozef! I have told him countless times to eradicate that damn snorkel.... He's developed some strange attachment to it, I'm not sure why?! 😂
