Wow! that explains a lot. Now I know why my leaves have been dying around the edges while waiting for roots to appear. Thanks for the explanation, I’ll be moving all the leaves under the light asap.
@@paultheplantparent2702 so after messaging you got a migraine which put me out of commode for two days! 😭 this am ran to greenhouse and found one begonia with leaves just melted… a new angelwing just fell apart when I touched it… I think my hubby tried to water them 🥹 I think I have enough good nodes on the angelwing to root but can you root them from leaves? Also with a Rex that has nothing but the base of the plant, will it come back?
@@majashelley1249 Oh no. 😞. Well Angel wing begonia leaves will root, but generally they won’t grow new plants. There are some exceptions with certain hybrids but usually you’d need a stem/node for a new plant. It’s possible for Rex stems to regrow, as long as the roots are healthy and the stems are firm. Give them really bright light (not direct sun) and there’s a good chance they’ll return. I had some rhizomes regrow in Sphagnum covered in a bag under LED grow lights. They’re still doing great. Let me know how it works out. 😃👍🏼
Hello. Surprisingly I have t had luck with escargot in anything other than the acrylic yarn. In water they’ve rotted multiple times- same with soil and leca. Not sure why, but the yarn does the best for me. I was even able to propagate leaf sections of escargot directly in yarn. I was surprised.
But you do put them in soil when rooted? I am new at this .I am not doing very well but I keep doing research and try different ways. The materials you use I never heard of is there more info on this method could you explain a bit more for me pls. 😊
Yup yup. 😃. It’s something I created that has saved so many of my plants. There are lots of videos I put up on it, but do you have a specific question?
@@chantalmassin1756 It’s acrylic yarn. I used to have a lot of problems with indoor plants in soil. Root rot, fungus gnats, etc. I learned about hydroponics but wanted to find a cheaper medium. I’ve used Leca and lava rock but it can get expensive. Through experimentation, I realized that certain yarns can be used as a medium. It holds water, traps air pockets, is inorganic and is cheap and easy to find. After a couple of years of fine tuning, this is now what I use for a lot of my plants. 😃🌱
i have 3 rex begonia cuttngs rn, 2 arent sprouting much new growth but the roots look really healthy, the other has more new leaves/bigger growth but the roots kinda have a brown tint to them especially towards the ends, idk if thats normal or if i have root rot but im confused cuz it seems to be doing the best
I’ve had that happen before too. As long as you’re keeping the water clean, new roots branch off the older ones. Sounds like things are moving along for you. 😃😃😃
Could you tell me what LED light levels are correct to improve the color of the leaves? footcandles ppfd hours per day? etc..I have read but there are many different opinions. thank you.
Hello. Honestly, I'm not really sure. I use regular LED bulbs from the hardware store... 40 or 60 WATT. The only thing I noticed is some plants need to be closer to the light bulb to color up. Other plants don't need to be that close. Each genus may require a different degree of closeness to the light, but it's more experimentation than a science for a lot of plants.
I’m finding that the lighting does make a difference. Thanks for the video.

I am so glad I’ve found your videos! I love love Rex for years but I can’t keep them alive 🥹 I’m so excited to try these prop and growing methods!
Yay!!!! I was in the same boat!!! Always died on me. Would love to go on this journey along with you!!! 😃😃😃

Great. Thanks for sharing!!
My pleasure!
how many hours of light do you give your propagations per day? thanks for another great video!
It really depends since my timers aren’t working. Usually it’s about 15-16 hours.
My rex was wilting.. I simply put it under oven light overnight and it's standing again. So beautiful. I'm afraid to move it from he stove lol
I know the feeling. I wonder if she was just cold. Did you also water her? 🌱👍🏼
@@paultheplantparent2702 I did water her. Gave her a shot. I wonder if she was cold. She is definitely standing
May I ask if you've ever had success with the Escargot in the yarn or LECA?
