i am an artist from Greece, the first 2 pots that i made after i saw this video were sold within the first day i got them to a garden shop. Tommorrow i might have an order of 80 pots. Thank you so much
Lordy, I could listen to you talk all day. I'm from Georgia (U.S.) and I just love your voice quality and accent. I also like your work here in the video. I have never heard of putting in peat, and appreciate that tip!
Hey, hello, I from Trinidad and Tobago, I on my son's chat, presently I am in a landscaping class, those are some of the pots we are making. Must say you style of creating the pots and the explanation is so clear, keep up the good work, respect.
I've never seen such a care with plants, as you do! It looks like a mother taking care of a baby beautiful and amazing instructions! I'ts good touching the ingredients feel smelling and and then is easy go washing hands! Taking cares as someone takes care with a baby! Congtratulations!!!
I really enjoyed this video...I found a magazine article that explained how to do this...I lost interest. but now I know how to do this the right way. Thank you for sharing. love it !!
Well, I see I'm 4 years late in commenting, but tonight is the first time that I've ever seen this video & I just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoyed it. Thanks for being so thorough. As for the gloves & mask thing, I made some draped hypertufa pots last week for the first time ever & did NOT use gloves - no one warned me & NO, I didn't know, so let's just say I learned my lesson the hard way, but all is good. I put straight coconut oil on it daily & its working great. Thanks again!!!
+Kathy Mainor now I am getting curious, Did you use portland cement??? didnt it have warnings on the packaging??? remember America is only one continent. our cement is not dangerous, nor is Europes and maybe its the same in South Africa.... Maybe it is only PORTLAND CEMENT. I have never worn gloves in 50 years, but I dont use Portland Cement because that is a USA only product,, we cant import it, and I can find out why, but my guess is from the comments, we dont import poisions unless they are clearly marked. this is getting intriguing..... :)
@@janinasimons8533, I used cement available in South Africa when I played around with it, also did the same with Plaster of Paris - my hands never got burns but the did look a bit odd - as though you had been soaking your hands in water for days (looked a bit like pale prunes) so I just put hand cream on them. I think the newer cement just sucks all the moisture and oils out of your skin as does PoP.
I really enjoyed your video . I'm going to try this out. I have a lot of space in my backyard so it should look quite nice. Thanks from Lynn Lewis , Dartmouth, N.S.
I cannot tell you how happy I was to see your video~~~I guess you can put leaves on the outside of the pots as well like Maple Leaves?? along with Sphagnum Moss?? Stones ahhh Crystals??
Putting a paper coffee filter in the bottom helps the potting soil not to drain out of the pot. P.S. You may need to layer two or three paper coffee filters.
Thank you for the video, just what I was looking for...I can believe that most comments were about not wearing gloves and such instead of giving a thumb up! leave the safety rules to yourselves! to each it's own man! one dude 's enough! we got it!
Absolutely fantastic. Thank You. This is the 1st SA gardener I have seen doing this. Everything I've watched is from the US. This was made so easy and with very little fuss. I've also seen people using table cloths or bath towels and then draping it over a table to dry. I want to plant flowers in them, something that doesn't need deep root stability. Would you recommend this?
Hi all! We agree 100% with everybody re the gloves and masks. At the time of filming these videos, it didn't even dawn on us to use gloves. Us gardeners here in South Africa can be a little oblivious when it comes to such things. So please, do use some gloves, even if it is a pair of surgical gloves as well as a dust mask. In South Africa, both these items are available from your local hardware store. Perhaps some of our International viewers could recommend outlets in your area? Kind Regards
TheGardenerMag You mean you live in the real world where most of us wind up with pickled fingers after a concrete project bc we don't bother with gloves. I will however use gloves when working with expanding foam until the day I die. 😯
I do agree 100% with Lee Travathan. The Gardener mag has a creative mind and I like her videos, but protective gear is important part for these projects.
Yes I would love to make some for my bonsai trees . Can I say I love this show host she seems so approachable and enthusiastic. Keep up !! What's her name ?
Every other recipe for this calls for perlite. I was wondering why you don't? It also says to wear gloves and face protection. So I bought some to be on the safe side. However I love watching your videos. I have watched others and you make it so much easier. Thanks so much!!!
You are so fun to watch! Thanks for sharjng your enthusiasm throughout your video! I will be getting my supplies to make some of the very funky and awesome pots...gloves and mask too...lol...thanks:)
Thank for sharing, a unique different way to make a pot. Using elements that gives your pot a different look. Using some organic materials as well; I have seen pots that were made of only cement, some using sand, cement and rocks. This is fantastic! I use my hands when I work as well; my minor is art. The hands are what gives the personality to your art, your signature. Yes, some people need to work with gloves, mask and eye protection, I do use when I work with wood or other materials but, when I am molding I like to use my hands without gloves. Thank you for sharing your technique.
The pots are beautiful. Do you use a certain cement (fine grain) or will any cement do? Where do you get the moss? I sure hope you answer your fans because I really want to make some for my garden. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous... don't know what the peat is here in Holland, do you know? Would like to try making my own pot (s) .. Will they crack when outside in winter?
It's crazy but I got quite excited thinking I could play with cement without bothering with gloves (done it before but my fingers got a pinch wrinkly and squinched up) then I see that you are supposed to wear gloves. Sigh. By the time you've masked and gloved up, strapped on your safety belt and put on your steel capped boots, the theatre sister has gone home and you have to do it all on your own. Love the look of the mossed pot. A tip from the cement manufacturer is to keep your cement damp for 7 days (especially if you are plastering walls) - it makes the cement much stronger and helps prevent cracking from too fast drying. You use a very fine spray to dampen the walls or even drape damp cloths on the walls, and you could just cover your pot, in the mould, with a damp cloth - don't put it in a bath of water.
Hi, thank you for this awsom video. I am going to make my first sement flower pot ever, and you use peat together with the sement... maybe a stupid question :-) but... can i use flower soil insted of peat...?
Hi Tanya.. I am from India.. I loved your video.. By the way, I have question. ..what exactly do you mean by Dry Cement mix ? Is it only a dry cement or mixture of Cement and fine Sand or something else (in some ratio/proportion) ?.. before watching your video, I have tried making couple of pots with normal cement+sand mix (1:3 ratio), but never heard of peat being used.... I will try this method, but need to know about cement mix... thanks.
Thank you for your video; agree, you must wear gloves when working with cement though :) Do you soak or rinse the pots before planting so as to leach lime out, or some find it not necessary?
Hi Sheerin, yes you can paint them using acrylics or even spray paint. I would recommend using white as a base layer first tho. Saves on the amount of colored paint needed. Happy coloring. 😎😉👍
Do have magic it's strange you mix cement mortar without gloves unbleaveable I am builder my mason when start fixing of bath tiles without gloves thay don't start their work amazing you are a great artist I appreciate your work.

Vissie, this is genius! I am going to have a bash at making these they are so beautiful.
Great tutorial and you have the perfect personality to do videos. I can’t wait to try making these.

Thank you for sharing. love it !!

+Carol Dempsey that sounds like a great idea...using leaves, and other garden/kitchen 'bits' would look different...thank you. Anna

love your accent & thanks for the simplest approach ever!
Great demonstration making such a good lightweight pot. Am inspired to try my hand at making one. Thanks for the tip. 😊
Your explanation is very good. It is very nice and easy to make and i think so help to grow to plant in early 💐
Thanks for this, and I really enjoyed how much fun you seem to have making the pot.
This is a cool video and i have made my first pot.Its perfect and i love it..thank u

agreed, one acidic approach set the tone but seems like the message may be altered by now. (honey approach works nicely)

Nice video. Question: Will the pots take freezing and thawing, since you mentioned it is porous? Thank you.

I have been watching ur videos all summer!! Love ur creativity!! Prayers from America to you in South Africa !!!!
I do agree 100% with Lee Travathan. The Gardener mag has a creative mind and I like her videos, but protective gear is important part for these projects.
You could also sieve the peat first to remove the unwanted lumps, just a thought.

شكرا على هذه الطريقة السهلة
Awesome vid! Simple and practical. I will try this. I would be a bit dubious about the background music though, lol!
wonderful, absolutely love it.
Does the mossy pot go green? Can I use my own moss, you know, like the roof moss for instance? Thanks for shearing!
Will adding peat moss to cement also work when making taller pots?
Thank you sooo Much Dear, God Bless You :)

Tanya - Builders Warehouse in PE is offering me the Block peat - can this be used please?
Thanks for your ongoing interesting items and inspiration!
MERCI beaucoup madam .jusqu'à maintenant je croyais que le ciment ne peut être mélanger que le sable.
Parimala Baste
Tu peut aussi ajouter du vermiculite (disponible chez Le Roy merlin) ou autres Bricolages
Brilliant. Keeping it simple!
Can we use cocopeat in place of peat? Thanks. Would love to try your pots.
Lovely, made it lighter, like that, don’t want them so heavy !
Very informative
Thank you for your video; agree, you must wear gloves when working with cement though :) Do you soak or rinse the pots before planting so as to leach lime out, or some find it not necessary?
