I'm kinda blown away by the above the belt carry... Ive flipped the clip on mine 200+ times and never thought of that. We have almost the same rig. Although I rotate knives alot the crkt minimalist keramin usually finds it's way to my belt more than others. Great video
This setup is good cuz people will think you only have a multi-tool & a flashlight if ever the clip attachment shows. They don't know you actually have more deadlier weapons with you hidden awaiting to be use.
I would recommend switching up your primary knife to a pocket knife with a decent steel. I'm sure the minimalist works okay, but I think you would appreciate a nicer steel in a more comfortable package. I have the karamin version of the minimalist that I wear as a defensive knife because the steel doesn't matter that much as long as it wont rust away. I suggest Cold Steel knives as they generally provide the best price for quality in my opinion. I have the Leatherman PS and the Surefire Titan as well, and they clip on to belt loops very well and don't get in the way. Just some suggestions based on my experience with some smaller gear.
you could double line your Shirt/t-shirt by buying two of the same and stitching them together if you're ok using a sowing machine... eliminates silhouette... cool video anyways, man..
When he said “I’m not wearing any pants” I wanted his mom too walk in and be like WHAT THE FUCK!” And then he would be like “GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY ROOM IM PLAYING MINECRAFT!”
can we still get that crkt minimalist with that particular horizontal above belt carry option pocket clip ? Though that set-up is good for cotton t-shirts but not for sport type fabric which is really thin & sort of see-thru type depending on the angle of the light. I just saw another video the belt-clip of that crk you actually need the belt go thru it unlike the sog snarl where you can remove the sheath without unbuckling the belt.
Bernard Tan yes you can still get the CRKT with this belt clip and configuration, but like you said, you do have to thread the belt through it making for a slower removal of the sheath.
Try the spyderco p'kal fixed blade, it's great steel at a great price for self defense. Klarus makes an excellent light with a crenellated bezel, look for the orange peel reflector. I have tried many lights (I'm a light whore) and this has been the best.
I love your setup, selection and fine tuned to you. The unconventional that works for you (and done well, quality custom accessories, not some Bud K and DIY paracord horseshit). Good thought process and application. Most likely you can't do any Better in your same situation and limits, than how you roll now. I'd rather attack a boomer with a 10mm 1911 and his head up his ass, than you and your steel. True story.
Brome Barium yes, quite well actually. It is friction retained but it will not come out no matter what so long as the sheath is upright. Even upside down it takes some effort to shake it loose
It is never a good idea to carry a combat knife for EDC unless you are deployed military. Should you ever use that knife in a self defense situation prepare to be arrested at a minimum. A utility purpose blade is best. One is a weapon the other is not.
Chris Clark I agree entirely with that point. It would be impossible for me to try and make that knife out to be anything other than a self defense knife.. fortunately I live in a very "self defense friendly" area where people commonly exercise their right to open carry and it isn't uncommon for a person to carry multiple blades
Chris is right; however, if by "utility" knife, he means a folder of some kind, very few of us will have the small motor skills to open a folding knife, even an automatic one, when we are fighting for our lives. You need a fixed blade knife which a DA can call a weapon no matter what its original purpose. Take the arrest! At least you'll be alive.
To JeffS. No, but I am aware of the NYC case against Bernard Goetz (sp.?) who defended his life against two armed assailants with an illegally owned/carried firearm. He was not convicted of a crime for shooting his attackers. He went to prison for owning/carrying an illegal handgun.
You are assuming a lot in your question. "Rightfully defended themselves"??? who determines that? You? Nope try again. Style of knife carried to the prosecutor anyway, can determine intent. Did you leave the house with intent to harm someone? Are you carrying a weapon or a tool? Was it self defense or not? This really gets murky. Maybe you are lucky and had witnesses, or like it typically happens, you were attached at night with no witnesses. So you stab the dude. Do you think the dude you stabbed is gonna play ball and admit that he attached you and then you rightfully poked him? No. He will lie and say it was a verbal altercation and you pulled a "tactical"/military blade and assailed him. Maybe his cousin is with him and also says you pulled a "scary knife" and went crazy. The prosecutor will then point to you and say, why did you have a fighting knife with you? Were you looking to fight? He will show the marketing materials for the knife in court saying it is "tough as hell and is a hard use tactical blade made from hi tech steel meant for fighting and or law enforcement military applications. He will hold the knife up in court so the jury can see it. Remark how sharp it is. He will say wow you put a lot of time into making this sharp didn't you? He will say that YOU left the house with intent. Intent to do harm,...intent to find someone to use your tactical knife on. If you were tho just carrying a box cutter or a wood carving knife then it takes the intent away and maybe helps you in long run. A wood carving knife or box cutter is much easier to frame as a tool you had on you for the task of doing work or chores, never intending to use it as a weapon but you were forced to put it to use as one to save your life. Never ever think everyone else will view things as you do. If you feel the need to carry a weapon then carry a gun and kill the person if your life is in danger of life ending force is needed to save your life. Guns and knives are two totally different animals in court. Although you better believe it better be justified. If you can not carry a gun for whatever reason then you better think long and hard about if you are carrying a weapon or a tool. Shit like this goes down in court 100 times a day every day in this country. Life is not Hollywood brother. Knives are a huge gray zone and AG's love to take knife cases to court.

Good video
what kind of belt setup do you have to make the knife sheath stay up like that
At the time of the video I was using the CRKT minimalist, which comes with a belt attachment that can be configured to hold the knife in that manner.

Clark TheTeenAgePrepper that's right you have to get used to it if you intend to carry the knife in that manner.

does the socp have retention in the sheath?
Brome Barium yes, quite well actually. It is friction retained but it will not come out no matter what so long as the sheath is upright. Even upside down it takes some effort to shake it loose
Where do you live? Fuckin Compton?

Can you name one court case when some one rightfully defended themselves and was convicted just because the style of knife used?
To JeffS. No, but I am aware of the NYC case against Bernard Goetz (sp.?) who defended his life against two armed assailants with an illegally owned/carried firearm. He was not convicted of a crime for shooting his attackers. He went to prison for owning/carrying an illegal handgun.
