Interesting stuff Joe. You are my nephew. If I am not mistaken, your mother Sharon is my half-sister. I am currently working on my autobiography and just might be interested in appearing on Gospel Tangents.
I served in the Montana Billings Mission 17-19. I served in Stevensville (same stake that Pinesdale is in) and I heard about Jessop’s presentations to missionaries, wanted to go so bad but wasn’t able to. Glad I was finally able to hear the breakdown 😅. And I’m doing a research paper on Fundamentalist culture this semester so it is very timely! Thanks Rick for another great interview.
Great interview, just stopping by for the Russian orthodox in Montana comment. ☦️ I am Russian orthodox and a big fan of Gospel tangents and lds history
Thank you so much for this video. It’s direct explanation for things that seem to get incredibly convoluted by the many different plogamist organizations that seem to try and smear any other plural marriage group.
No name. The "group" was a large extended family that would worship together, but each family was independent. No council. It split from the AUB I think because of something with Joe Thompson. This group split, then split again.
@@atphoenix2020 I'd love to get more details. Email me at gospel tangents at gmail dot com if you have anything more to share. I'm always interested in the different restoration groups.
This was fascinating. I think that you may not have gotten the guest you wanted but rather the guest you needed. My experience with seeing Kody Brown speaking on any topic is a lot of word salad and tangents.
On priesthood ban Please read Joseph Smith on history of the church vol 2 page 438 and Abraham 1:21-27 What are your guys (GT and Joe Jessop) thoughts?
And the history of events during 1950-1978 especially of the efforts of Hugh B. Brown. I don't see how anyone can believe the lifting of the ban on blacks was inspired.
I don't have the first book but with regards to Abraham, I think this blog post explains things well. mormonheretic.org/2011/04/11/using-scriptures-to-debunk-the-priesthood-ban/
The 1886 John Taylor revelation says nothing about setting up any organization. We have 10 Taylor revelations and the 1886 one was the last one. Read those revelations here: 2bc.info/pdf/4books.pdf
you are correct...So even though the Taylor revelations mention no outside organization, the polygamists claim authority through the Sept 86 revelation anyway because according to them the alleged 8 hour meeting that follows the next day gives them their basis for the outside- the-church-priesthood-organization.

Fascinating discussion! Joe Jessup is a great speaker and was really able to explain foreign concepts clearly.

You'll have to send me your paper when you're done!
I live in Billings, born and raised. Was in Rexburg when you were in MT though.

Glad it was helpful!
So you should try going to a general LDS meeting and give a talk titled “The Alleged First Vision”. See how that goes over.
Not sure what you're getting at. This was a while ago, and I don't remember whatever point you're trying to make.
Exactly. It's an intentionally subversive thing to say. Or go to any Christian congregation and talk about Christ's alleged "returning from the dead".
Growing up not far from Pinesdale and knowing a number of the residents this has been enlightening and helped fill in my knowledge of our neighbors.
Glad it's helpful!
George Q Cannons own journal corroborates the "8 hour meeting." Record can be found in the minutes of the Quorum of the 12 as well.
Do you have any quick links you can share or where to find this?
Hi. What is the source on this? Accounts of that day from the secretaries of the Church have no record of it.
Based on your story, It seems that Joseph Musser did the same thing as Owen Allred By appointing a successor
Is Joe related to Christine (Brown), now Woolley… and is David any relation to the other Woolley you spoke of?
In polygamy, isn't everybody related to everybody? :) I'll have to ask.
Did this question ever get answered?
She is related to David Jessop, Robyn’s ex husband. I do believe an article said David W. has ties to the “Mormon faith”.
We were part of a group that left the AUB and is in Concho, AZ. Jessops and Sullivans and Thompsons. We are not related to any of the families.
Do you have an official name? Is it the 2nd Ward or something else?

Wait you actually know this user?
Thank you that was interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it

Is Joe a brother in law to Brady Williams? I love hearing how everyone is related, there are some really good people from these groups ♥️
No. Some of Brady’s wives are related to Joe, but none are siblings.
Interesting
Thanks!

Are you defending the ban?
Tune in Monday and check out my discussion with Paul reeve. I don't think anyone can argue that God was involved in the ban.

Hi Joe. I’d like to get in touch with you to set up an interview on fundamentalist origins. What’s the best way to contact you?
