That was the proper way to commit seppuku.
You will always have a second (assistant) who is usually a trusted vassal to cut off your head, due to the pain it brings.
As depicted on the show, you don’t just stab yourself but pull the knife to draw a “Z” letter on your stomach, so the intestine spills.
The quicker the second cuts off the head the better, because I’ve heard it was often the case that it took several swings until it finally fell.
I’m wondering if the enemy (at the beginning of the show) asked Toranaga to be his second on purpose, to give him trauma-because it would be almost impossible for a 12 year old boy to do this task.
No, she doesn't "have the key" or any plan. What she is doing, is telling Toranaga that "hey, I have these plans for the future" But Toranaga answers that this is his fate.. Then she says that it would be so very easy to have a spy/scout in the forest, to alert Toranaga that a large army is moving towards his surprisingly poorly defended garrison, so why did it happen so easy? winkwinkwink. Toranaga isn't stupid, so why did it happen without any visible preparation. Toranaga himself warned about trusting anyone other than yourself, so why does he suddenly seem to trust his half-brother.

The brother and Toranaga are playing the council. The Uncle tried to cryptically tell his nephew the calm down. He said they were family. And that dying was not beautiful. The look on his face when the boy dies tells it. Gin saw through Toranaga and knows this is all a farce. I bet that this is the way Osaka falls, because the enemy will spring into action from inside.

If Toronaga lays siege to Osaka Castle, he loses, Crimson Sky only works from the inside, how better to get inbthe castle than to be escorted in, tjen bring the cannon to bear and lay waste to the walls and gates
I guess you guys forgot some of the conversations.
First one was the conversation between Torunaga and Mariko arranging to book one week service of Kiku and even lowering the price.
And second the conversation between Fuji and her grandfather when he gave the ashes of her husband and child. She said "now i can die and join them" and her grandfather said "why not live?"
How do they forget the conversations while watching the same episode..? Is it a medical issue?
Saeki was to give the council's order to Nagakado to commit seppuku, and in a way, Nagakado did commit seppuku in front of Saeki 😒

I'm not a fan of all this hate that Buntaro is getting. The man is a hard ass sure, but he's a strong, loyal, perceptive warrior and he doesn't deserve this treatment. Mariko is the true villain in this series. She courts an outsider who has no sense of loyalty to anyone or anything and she seriously believes that will make her happy
The depiction and perception can go both ways. After hearing both sides of the story from Mariko's point of view in the show and comments stating Buntaro's point of view from the original novel, I believe in for both sides that one perspective is just as truthful as the other

@theultimatewarlord69420 I can see your perspective, and I respect and agree. I'm of the opinion that Buntaro deserves someone who understands and can reciprocate his emotions. The guy is a man of war and that comes with mental stress. Mariko does nothing to even make this guy comfortable because she has approached the relationship is a worthless position. She created the environment herself

I can understand blackthorne’s anger at the end

YOU GUYS SHOUDK WATCH IMAGINARY!
Im grasping at straws here but I feel like this episode is a total misdirect, hearkening back to the switcherooo on episode 3.
1. why the heck was Buntaro and Mariko asking their "Last request" to Toranaga? Especially after the reveal of the last episode, it seems dissonant.
2. Then there's the part where Blackthorne speaks rudely to the war assembly in the end but was allowed to just walk even with his titles, probably because he is a barbarian... There must be an exit strategy, as before walking out, Blackthorne names Yabushige, and Nagakado (both trained to handle the cannon regiments).
3. Looking at everyone's expression, Mariko does not seem to surprised, or more importantly, too concerned about the outburst.
4. And also there's the convo with Gin. If they were really about to be wiped out, why did she make those requests, unless she knows something that everyone else don't know.
5. Also, no way Nagakado could just barge his way in into the willow-world like that. Either he was acting independently, or he acted on orders, but his or his uncle's death bought some time.
1) Of course they need permission from Toranaga, because he is the master and meaning to their existence. (This is feudal Japan- you don’t live for yourself) Moreover, at this point, killing the Anjin/Mariko taking her own life would both mean a huge loss to the camp as they are valued assets.
2) I thought this was a good depiction of the contrast between east and west. I can understand Blackthornes frustration against “losing without fighting” and the probable death of everybody in the clan.. another hard-to-understand Japanese suicide.
3) Mariko is just sitting behind the eight-fold-fence. There must be a lot going on inside her head.
4) Gin is betting and hoping for Toranaga to win, because as she says, she’s seen a world of able men and is not convinced that a strategist like him will simply surrender. Even if she doesn’t know anything going on behind the scenes, it’s better to claim herself rather than be silent right?
5) …and that’s the reason why Gin opened the gates for Nagakado. Even if it wasn’t explained in the show, you can tell that the whole tea house was in it with Nagakado as Kiku disappeared just in time for him and his men to step in.

I was merely remarking on how some things that were already addressed in the previous episodes somehow gets brought up again this time, and considering how good the show have paced itself so far, that it seems to drag itself on in this one. So it got me thinking that most of this is a huge misdirection.
Again, if you have read the book or watched the 85 miniseries, I appreciate that you did not spoil me.
