    I like how we can understand why Butaro is so pissed about the situation with Blackthorne because, from the samurai ideology, Butaro is everything a badass samurai should be, but for all of his strength, he can’t conquer his wife’s heart. Then in walks a “barbarian monkey” who doesn’t even know how to hold a fucking sword and wins her kindness and affection. He just can’t comprehend it from his worldview

      100%. I still feel bad for him, because after seemingly sacrificing himself by fighting a hundred opposing warriors, and surviving, he returns and is shown what appears to be barely any recognition or respect, all while watching his wife get cozy with the outsider. I dont back the guy in this story but I feel his pain

    I think that Toragana is using this "surrender" to position his troops in the heart of Osaka. This way he doesnt have to fight his way there and will take minimal losses and activate Crimson Sky when he's there. Nagakado once again kinda fucking up the plan tho.

      This is exactly what I thought of. I was even thinking that his brother was on board with the plan and that he was using this surrender plan as a cover to hit Osaka from the heart. The last scene makes me doubt it though. When he reacted to his nephew's death.

    I don't think the problem is that Nagakado isn't about the life, its that he is too about it, to a point he's reckless. The kid was so eager to make a name for himself and with samurai idealogy being that even death can be beatiful/ legendary, The guy has aboslutely no risk aversion. If he was really trying to get the job done with his uncle he could've! But instead he wanted to also have the single head stroke that made his father such a legend, he took time prepping the strike just to be unaware of his footing and died because of it. I found it tragic more than frustrasting or funny to be honest.

    Nagakado is so pity but he played a role in unwittingly helping Toranaga's strategy twice.
    If rumors spread in Osaka that "Nagakado died trying to kill his uncle," what could be more advantageous than not exposing the strategy of his uncle Saeki and Toranaga?!

    This script does not portray Japan correctly. Maybe the original story is, but it is also not the historical fact, and the way the samurai are portrayed is wrong. As an example, samurai do not draw their swords easily. The only thing we can appreciate is that it is played by a Japanese. The scale is small and uninteresting.

    • @Rabbithole8
      @Rabbithole8 2 місяці тому

      How are the samurai portrayed as wrong? What do you mean about them not drawing their swords easily? What do you mean that the scale is small and uninteresting? This an adaption of a novel which is based on Willam Adams, Tokugawa Tokugawa Ieyasu and Akechi Tama. All the showrunners made it a point to follow historical accuracy as much as possible as far as having a team of historical specialists for even depicting small details accurately. Perhaps, you have romanticized the Sengoku and samurai and reality says otherwise. I also wonder if your claim of samurai using their swords is also applied to Japanese movies such as Masaki Kobayashi's "Harakiri," Youjirou' Takita's "When the Last Sword is Drawn," etc.

      @@Yo-ff5tv Simply stating that this series of Shogun is far from historical facts doesn't' make the claim true. Yes, James Clavell got things wrong in his novel. He also purposely changed the names of the mentioned historical figures because he didn't want readers to mistake his novel as being a history book. He wasn't an historian. What does the fact that he is non-Japanese have to do with anything? A non-historian who is Japanese will also get things wrong. There are highly regarded historians of Japanese history that are not Japanese, for example Stephen Turnbull who has written many book about the Samurai. Fact are facts no matter who states them. So, what does being a foreigner have to do with anything as far as historical accuracy is concerned? I give you the correct answer: it doesn't. This series is actually a recreation of the Sengoku and much of it is accurate. You haven't addressed any of my questions such as how are the samurai being depicted inaccurately. The claim that they are using katana a lot is just silly, in my opinion. That is why I mentioned at least two Japanese movies with samurai who use the katana a lot as well.
