    Great tips. I experienced this last year when I tried to seed with Princess 77 in September after killing off my crabgrass infested lawn in August. Most of the Princess 77 failed to even germinate in the cooler temperatures. I had much better luck seeding in May/June of this year.

    The hardest way to get bermuda to grow is from seed. One of the easiest ways is to plug bermuda. Now that can be expensive unless you use a tool called the Pro Plugger. It allows you to transplant your own bermuda from your own yard to places in your yard where you have patches or bare spots. Don't plug your yard until Late May June time frame or when Bermuda is actively growing. Pre Emergents is the friend of Bermuda Grass. Use it in FEB-MAY-AUG-NOV.

    I just hate Bermuda grass. I hate the dormant look. Ours never seems to really green up and no matter what lawn service we use we have bare spots and thin areas. I just hate it. Can I overseed with anything else to have a better Bermuda lawn? I'm seriously thinking of the ryegrass option for off-season. I hate Bermuda (did I mention that? ). Thanks for all the great information!

    How often can/should I aerate when it’s the appropriate time of the year? I live in North Florida and have a well and irrigation system so watering is not a concern. I have a pull aerator/drop spreader and am wondering if there is any benefit to aerating multiple times in the spring and summer.

    • @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral
      @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral  3 роки тому

      Once is really all you need. You guy in Florida have sandy soil so fertilizer shouldn’t have an issue getting absorbed. Some aerate in spring some in summer. So if fertilizing is important you may want to do it before the fert cut off ban. Remember aeration is not absolutely necessary but it helps a lot if you have soil issues or Clay soil like me. I aerate when my lawns is about 60 percent green from dormancy and again after the forth of July.

    • @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral
      @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral  3 роки тому +1

      I wouldn’t recommend doing both at the same time. Aeration good mowing practice and time with fertilizer will give you better results in the long run.

      @@BYDonBermudaGrassCentral Thank you Byd! So if I decide to dethatch, how soon should I wait to aerate? 2nd owners to a 12 year old home and the front yard is not that great and never done anything other than pre-em/fertilize.

      @@topcat5992 note. Aerating a lawn that has a lot of weeds is not recommended. But I’d only aerate while lawn is greening up or once before the heat in your area makes the soil hard.

    Where are you located? In Texas it still pretty hot until November. Could I still get an overseer in before winter pre-emergent?

    • @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral
      @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral  7 років тому +3

      Gray Lankford I still recommend you wait till May / June to over seed your Bermuda Lawn. Although it may be warm the soil temp will not be and you need sustained temps over 85. Plus your start fert is not gonna be affective on cooler soil and you’ll stress the grass that’s there because by nature it’s going to dormancy but when you add that start fert the grass is not asking for Nitrogen or the phosphorous at this time although the potassium can help. Plus the phosphorous will linger in the the soil and bind up other minerals and you may slow the green up process. When you put down seeds in May / June they need the phosphorous for development. I know you are excited to get the yard that Crushes all in you neighborhood but let’s wait till May / June so you can get the best results 👍🏾, make sure you subscribe and click notification and thanks for your question 😀

      Dietrick McKinney believe it or not, I have no irrigation system and I only water my yard 2 times the whole season. Once when I put down some fert ( organic ) and the second was when I watered in my 007 pre em. We did get plenty of rain last season. I think we only had a two week span with no rain. My yard did go back semi dormant but bounced back when the rain returned. Because my yard is on heavy clay it would not benefit me to water it during times of drought. Electric Cuts the Expert Gardner brand is decent, only sold at Walmart. If you have a moderate weed problem it’s ok . In the video you saw me do it in I also spot treat weeds along with that application to get those great results. It’s now August and that product is like 50 percent off at most Walmart’s. • @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral
      @BYDonBermudaGrassCentral  6 років тому +1

      Marcus Smith the first thing you need to do is buy a hose end spray weed kill for lawn and treat you whole yard. I’ll have a video up soon about that. Me personally I would not add fert until I see 70 percent of that lawn. You gotta get those weeds out of there before you really start trying to make that lawn pop. You can’t get a cheap one either. RoundUp weed kill for lawn in the white bottle is good but expensive. Bayer Advance, spectracide weed stop with the crabgrass killer is also good. It’s kinda of late but I’d also add a Pre M to this situation also. This will not turn an ugly lawn into a perfect lawn over night but you have to start ASAP. Another lawn treatment will most likely be needed but read the bottles instructions to see when it says you can apply again. Remember that Bermuda grass will recover from damages that may happen during this process. START ASAP!! Hope you hit the subscribe and notification button?, and join my Instagram account also. Go to my home page, look 👀 at lower right in the grass to subscribe. If this info helped you can also donate to channel through PayPal Link 👍🏾 , good luck 🍀
