It's interesting that you brought up about family members selling a collection after we pass away, because this is something I have been in great concern. Since I do not have any children (and I personally don't trust what my cousin's kids would do with my collection) I have been working on creating my will with who gets my collection and what they will do with it. Imagine that, but it's true for us collectors because there is a high value to the Star Wars collection. Putting it in the last will as part of the estates. It is part of our estates, just like other collections and vintage and antique items.

Hey Jedi! Yes I have been putting together my will as well and inventory of these items. It’s definitely something that’s real.

I don't see vintage/Kenner Star Wars toys ever losing value. The brand has survived for so long, even new fans will value those original toys.

Hey Shawn, I think you are right. They historical significance in Americana will always have these retaining some value in the toys that are closer to mint condition.

Nice educational video 👌 That's why I try to have everything already graded, so if I do pass on, all someone has to do is list it and it's already explained easier. The original Kenner figures are always going to have some high value because they will always be the golden age of Star Wars. Just like comic books. I don't like anything repo for the original line. Thanks for the video👍

Hey Scott! Yes grading helps seal the deal on authentication when we have to pass on our estates. Great point.

Just started collecting vintage Star wars figures about 2 years ago. Had a lot of ROTJ figures when I was young. I've purchased 13 figures MOC. This sure is an expensive hobby. Thanks for posting this video!

I know that many around me laugh at the values of toys and action figures, but that is because we are still close to the 1970s. There are people who are starting to understand the value of toys as we the collectors grow and grow. I do agree with you that the toys of the 1970s (actually going back to 1959 to be honest) were made and marketed so differently that they are true collector items. I say 1959 because of one reason. Hear me out because some action figure collectors don't like what I have to say, but we have Barbie and Ruth Handler to thank for starting the concept of toys that now are classic and vintage. Barbie was the very first doll that is in the image of a person. This then went on to Hasbro creating GI Joe a few years later as the first action figure. The chain of events and development until we got to Kenner creating the Star Wars action figures at a new size. There are Barbie collectors (my sister included) who feel the same as we do about collecting. And. I now this is funny, but we have Ruth Handler to thank to be the stem of what we now have is a true and amazing toy collection.

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  10 місяців тому +1

Yes I fully agree that Barbie and GI Joe were the first action figures to be highly collectible. Those are great toy lines who really set the stage as Uber popular collecting lines

Love this new series! Great questions & well researched answers. I wasn't able to provide a question this time around but hopefully will have something to contribute in the future.
The question about repro stickers was a good one. I collect in-box complete sets & absolutely love unused sticker sheets, but I'd never pull stickers off to put on a toy (they are just too hard to come by). But it is a personal issue/choice for sure. As you mentioned, the biggest consideration is if you're trying to pass these off as complete with original stickers when they are only completed by using repro stickers. And good point about your loved ones not knowing for sure what's real and what's not when they go to sell your collection should you pass. I hadn't considered that before. So it's good food for thought.
    Fantastic content as always Joey.

Elvis memorabilia prices have tanked. Star Wars prices will go the same way in 20-30 years when the market is flooded with collections from sadly passed away collectors.

Thanks for the info Jay! That’s an interesting positioning. I just went to a collectors show and the only items that resellers wanted was Elvis and Marylin items, but it was the authentic high ticket items. So maybe the loose Star Wars items will loose value, but the boxed or mint on card items will hold a value. We shall see. It’s all speculation until it happens

The 1960s barbies are consistently worth the most. I agree star wars started the modern toy collecting trends. Ps. I was 10 in 1977 and got the vinyl Jawa cape figure in 78. Sheesh!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial

Yes you are most correct! Barbies and GI Joe were the most popular action figures / toys for collectors before Star Wars brought in the modern era of action figures.

for value and if they will last, you also have to consider changing economic conditions or models.
We are in the midst of an AI revolution. I would even venture a guess that within our lifetime, we will see a decline in jobs unlike anything we have ever seen before. Hundreds of millions of people will be out of work due to AI and robotics taking over the job industry. I see some of this already in my area where we have two Pizza joints with robots that make the pizzas. Each store now has only one employee, where they used to provide jobs for 4-5 people.
Now the government is already planning a stipend of sorts where people will just be given a certain amount per month to help during this transition, but it won’t be anything near what people are used to getting. Plus if u think about it logically, if they give you $10 and then you hand that $10 to someone for a toy, then why not just skip the middle process and have them just give you the toy?? so eventually the economy has to change. I think money will just go away and we will see some kind of voucher system take it’s place. Like a digital voucher for necessities or whatever. If we hold onto a monetary system and a majority of the people are just no longer working, then we are in for a major crash in society. so change is inevitable with the AI and robotic revolution. We have to adapt or die.
So once we have a society without money, what will these collections be worth? That depends on what we place a value on in this post monetary society. Maybe our reputation and integrity will be what is of value instead of how much money we make. -and then how do you put that into a value for trading an action figure collection? or any collection?
So I say collect what you love and don’t worry about it’s value. heheh

    • @thepadawancollectorofficial
      @thepadawancollectorofficial  11 місяців тому +2

Wel said John. I do think eventually (maybe three generations after we are long gone) these toys won’t have the economic appeal to a broad audience and the audience will get smaller, and only the very rare items and carded and sealed items will retail the most value, if any. There will always be the faction of the elite that will have enough money to spend on items like these, but I think, as you are suggesting, the middle class will become exponentially larger, making items like these less desirable because people will focus spending their “money” on life essentials and NOT luxury items like this, even for an investment. Great take, John.

I'm in total agreement about the stickers.
    I'm a purist also.
I have a TIE Intercepter that came to me without stickers and I don't think I would even use vintage stickers to complete it.
I would do the exact same thing, set it aside, frame it, whatever.
Over this past summer, I set some Stormtroopers in a jar of hydrogen peroxide and set them out in the bright sun to whiten.
The water got pretty warm and loosened in the joints and water got trapped in the torso when the limbs returned to their original size, ..
should I do the same thing to reverse it??
I wasn't sure what to do.
I certainly didn't want them rotting from the inside.
    Thanks for the video

Hey T, I haven’t tried the peroxide thing, and it’s hard for graders to tell if it’s been hit with whitening agents, but I don’t think I would ever do that to one of my figures.

I understand and agree, but tried it with some pretty beat up figures first.
I looked it up to make sure it was safe for figures before I tried it.
      I'm the same way.
The joints returned to their tightness.
If you if you do try it, DON'T put an AT-AT driver or the Imperial insignias will fade to an orange or yellow.
It NEEDS to BRIGHT, not hot. :)

You ever regret not getting a figure? Twenty five years ago i was pondering getting tig fromm and sise fromm. Passed because they were from a dumb cartoon. Also passed on a mint carded droids boba fett for $50 because, "dont need another boba". So angry at myself! Also agree with you on the sticker thing.

As a kid, I was 14-15 at the time, I remember seeing POTF figures in a clothes basket in a Kay-Bee toy aisle, not even peg worthy at that time… they all had $1.00 stickers on them. I kick myself even to this day about that. Why do I remember? Because I knew even then I should have picked em all up. 😢
