Cheers for the advice! I‘ve never thought about using makeup brushes before, but I have plenty so I’m definitely going to incorporate that in to my future cleaning routine. Also, in terms of cleaning, I’ve always found my Hot Toys figures the most intimidating to do for fear of damaging them. At least loose action figures are significantly less intimidating. 😂

Great video! Maybe interesting thought on the yellowed blister you showed. One of my (too) many other hobbies is model building. Often when you get a vintage kit, the clear film of the decals have yellowed. I've read many times in modelling magazines and books that you should put the decal sheet in a sunny window and the sunlight will fade the yellowness. Have never tried it myself and kind of doubt it would work since in my experience, sunlight is generally no bueno. However, it might be an interesting experiment to try it on a yellowed out blister.

    • @Nerdzoic
      @Nerdzoic  3 роки тому

Thank you! Maybe I'll try the experiment with a moc that I don't as much about in case it doesn't work. I agree with you that normally sunlight I thought would fade the colors in general not just the yellow price tag.

Just found this video thanks! Also not sure if you ever got around to it but I highly recommend an air purifier and id say to get a pretty decent one because a cheap one will just not be effective when it comes to these. Dust your collection room first so that when you add the air purifier you have something measurable as you can wait and see how long it takes until you really need to dust again. You'll be amazed at just how much dust it removes from the air as long as you change the filters every 3 months or so. I recommend something from Winnix or a brand such as Coway. Levoit does a decent job as well.

It might, I'd suggest running an air purifier and also getting some baking soda and putting the loose figures in a large container with a lid and place the bag of baking soda in it. Obviously, don't dump the baking soda on or under the figures, but an air tight container with the open bag of baking soda should help. Maybe check on the smell in a couple days and if it's still there try a week. Let me know how it turned out.

Hydrogen peroxide works great on figures that have yellowed over time. I used a typical cereal bowl. Added four storm troopers and filled it with hydrogen peroxide and let them sit in the sun for two hours. They came out bright white. I couldn't believe it. Plastic if any variety will eventually oxidize and become brittle depending on the environment that it's kept in. Regardless, time will turn clear plastic yellow. It was never made to last. Now there is a unique way of getting rid of it. But it only be for non-packaging plastic. I've seen a lot of luck with hydrogen peroxide and UV light on getting it the yellow tinge out of plastic

so yellowing for figures comes from oxygen exposure...its a chemical reaction causing breakdown of the plastic, or more specifically the Bromine that is a flame retardent chemical added to the plastics to stabilize them in their liquid form, and this may or may not happen to new on card toys its a bit of a matter of luck, but storage conditions can also impact the chance too

I know I'm late to the party, but you can ckean the yellow from the bluster packs and from figures.
Not just smoke will yellow some plastics, some plastics will just absorb pollutants from the air.
    So, how to clean.
First you'll want to go to a beauty store (get some makeup brushes while you're there and stop pissing off the wife. 😉 )
You want to find a Hydrogen Peroxide based hair bleching cream... not liquid, but cream.
The higher the percentage the better. 15 - 20% is easy to find, 40% is hard to find but will make it go faster.
Paint the creme onto the yellowed plast and then subject it to UV light either with a high power black light or just leave it in the sun (Powerful Black Lights are much faster than the sun), cover anything that could fade like the card board backing. Don't get the cream on the cardboard.
For full plastic figures, get a large glass jar, mason jars are cheap and easy to find. (Walmart has a selection of larger single mason jars that can fit most anything)
Now either mic cream with water and fill jar or just use liquid hydrogen peroxide (3% will take days in the sun or 24 hours in blacklight) and again, subject to UV light.
Hope this helps some of you out.

Would you be interested in my collection of G.I. Joe action figures? Out of the package but still in really good shape.

Don't fuck with Barbie. The first one based on the German character pulls decent money on auction.
