Thank you! I’m actually in the process of getting cases for about 40+ figures that are needing them lol. I couldn’t decide and found your video very helpful and right on time.
Just said it on another video too! These foldable cases are another level! Especially for the low cost! I've just bought about 50 of the star action figures foldable cases for my vtg starwars mocs, they are really nice, feel great, look great, crystal clear! The very high uv protection is bonus! Best bit for me is that they sit really well that flaps are flat, so my figures no longer wobble & can actually be stacked. They've put my wobbly dcreflector ones I paid nearly twice as much for to shame If I'm honest.
I store all of my TVC in foldable cases exactly like this and as soon as I recieved my sample from SAF I was so impressed with the rigidity that I jumped on the site and placed an order. I have heard other people say that they can't find the listing so I wonder if they've sold out already or taken the listing down temporarily 🤷♂️ Also, I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but you can arrange the case in such a way that the top of the cardback is supported by the overlapping tab (mean it can't move) 👊👍
That’s an awesome insight video! They look amazing for the new SAF cases.I have tons of star cases but I might change up to those if they are cheaper. but definitely at last something for the deluxe boxes. for some reason I always thought the retro and TVC were the same size collecting both for years and just noticed lol
I don’t have much space, so when I rotate I put those on display into acrylic and the ones in storage into foldable. Acrylic looks better to display, but foldable work great for both storage and display. I’ve found the best of both worlds.
Really interesting Tim, I started off using the foldable protective cases from DC Deflector, I’m now slowly moving to acrylic cases as they look much better on display . I would definitely be interested in the SAF version considering the uv protection is so much higher than others, however, what I will say is the self adhesive hanging tabs tend to come off over time, especially if the room is warm, they unstick themselves and eventually I had figures falling off the wall with the hanger tab still on the hook on the wall, something for people to consider if they go that way. I’ve never used star cases as I always felt it made it difficult to hang figures straight as the hanger is central on the case so figures hung at an angle rather than straight, so the one advantage to self adhesive hanging tabs is you can attach them off centre so the figure hangs straight with no need for any assistace such as blue tac on the back etc. But very interesting insight Tim, I may use SAF cases going forward, cheaper than competitors too 👍 Thanks for sharing this 👌
Thats interesting about the hanger tabs falling off. Not good! I have always been ok with Star Cases, they can swing every now and then but for the most part mine are straight.
I actually have some of these new cases Tim. I recently bought some retro prototype stormtrooper figures with these cases & also afew with some TVC cardbacks & cases. And there so much thicker & stronger. Alot stronger. I recently had them in a pile ontop of each other & had a box fall on them I thought that's it there go my new figures there squashed, but no there really decently strong! Well stronger them those previously flimsy version!! Was shocked to see how much better the UV protection is that's excellent!! I'll definitely get afew more of these as I like they have a stack of different sizes. I'll be grabbing afew more! Really awesome comparison video Tim that UV protection tester was a brilliant touch!! LOL Nice one, thanks mate!!
I'm not a carded collector/displayer, but I do have some carded figures that I keep in boxes - the SAF cases would seem to be the best and cheapest option just to keep them damage free while in storage. Great video.
I use something similar for my Retro Collection figures that are the low profile figures like the first wave of A New Hope characters and the colorful prototype retros. I also use these kind of cases for my carded Black Series Archive collection figures. Like you point out, the key is to find cases that are at least 40-50mm thick and have the UV protection. In the states I get mine from a company called Retroprotection. As for my TVC figures, it’s FigureShields and Protech Star Cases all day long. For Black Series, FigureShield makes by far the best case for angled Galaxy style boxes. Once PFP arrives, however, my days of casing backup MIB black series figures will be over. I’ll be buying openers only going forward.
Nailed it Tim. I’m interested in these but not sure they suit me. I don’t have everything on display so what I do have I want in acrylic for most protection. The rest is in storage and I’m not sure the foldable or cam cases in storage are as good as keeping everything compact and secure in shipper boxes inside really useful boxes.
Awesome Bossk, I might have to look into getting a few of these myself. Not many as I open my VC, but certainly for the Retro collection. I hope you do a 'running commentary' on your new room (similar to channel 4's Grand Design?)
The ones I have outside of boxes and plastic tubs I hang on the wall without any protective case and others I set on big multi-leveled shelves without protective cases.
I don't really display my carded figures since most of them are in storage lockers, but I have been wanting to buy those Protech Star Cases, but I'll take a look at those Star Action cases, Thanks Tim for the review
@@BossksBounty £1.50 is excellent. I paid around £3 each for 50 star cases. That’s as many as I can fit on my wall. They are great for hanging and swapping out easily.
I actually keep my TVC in Figureshield clamshells. I just think they display a bit nicer than Star cases and they have way better UV protection. They used to not fit the cardbacks perfectly (they would sometimes be a bit cramped at the corners) but they have fixed that issue with the latest version.
@@BossksBounty yeah I hear ya. They serve as both branding and they are tabs that help fasten the 2 pieces securely together. Funny thing is the reason I first bought Figureshields for my TVC is because I used to display them alongside the VOTC and Vintage Saga figures and Figureshield were the only ones that somewhat matched the look of the Star Wars clamshells that came with those line of figures. Then I just stuck with Figureshield for consistency.
Hi BB, I'm looking at the Star Action Figure site for the SAF Display Cases, and I was wondering how many come in an order, because looking and it doesn't say how many come in an order? do you might know by any chance, awesome video as always, take care BB
I use the Ultimate Guard display cases. They are pretty similar to the Star Cases, and they are good, even though I don't know if they are better or worse than Star Cases. What I would love is to see some display cases for bigger bubbles (Like Saga Collection, Clone Wars, ROTS, etc) available in Europe
Would there be a difference in the front or back of the case? If the UV protection is applied certainly it’s only on the front? Great review as always Bossky!!!
Interesting subject this, I got UV film on my window which is 98% protection and I have all my Cardbacks no matter how cheap or expensive they are in GW acrylics. Just the way I have done it :) the UV film on the windows is a no brainer to me
I think it’s semantics on the UV protection. It’s like watches, some are water resistant and some are water proof. I’ve been using Star Cases the whole time myself. Do you know if the cases you get back from AFA or CAS have UV protection or resistance?
Any idea how the AFA acrylic cases measure up on your UV meter? Considering how they are supposed to be premium cases, you would expect then to measure higher than 97.
Probably mentioned by now (32 comments already), but I’m too lazy to look. “Figure Shield” makes a UV resistant case, similar to a Star Case. High quality manufacturing. Very sturdy. Must be serious UV action, because the plastic is HAZY and not even close to clear. Absolutely obscures the card and figure, in my opinion. USA based. Don’t know if they ship overseas. Too lazy to look for that information too 😂.
@@BossksBounty Funny, I kind of do like that. What I like the most are your vintage OTC and TSC protectors that have the Alliance and Empire logos in the top corners
Is there a cap on how many of these figures can be made..... I don't think they will ever stop producing them say any rogue one figure if they went up in value say in 40 year's.......they need a cap
Not sure what you mean. Figures have a production run and that’s it. If it’s super successful like ROTJ Boba Fett then another run gets made. But that’s it
Even if the case was fully UV PROTECTED it's not really fully protected as the UV rays can still get through and damage the cardbacks if you were to display it near a window for along period of time, the sun will still damage the cardbacks, just takes a little bit longer.
Dont put figures in plastic cases. The plastic is cheap and full of plasticises that can imprint on your cards if stored in places with dramatic temperature changes. Acrylic all day.
Great video!!! Wasn’t expecting the UV gauge, an authentic thorough review! Excellent work.
