Great questions and great answers! - In an emergency, I will get my Yak Face coin and Boba Fett figure. I hope and wish nothing like that will ever happen to any collector. - That's why you call it ''your collection''. You are the one who has it and the one who sets the rules about what to have or not in your collection. - I paint miniature figures and many times, I look at my louse figures, thinking I can restore all of them. What keeps me back is the fact that even beaten-up they have a story to tell and I have no right to erase that.
I recommend checking out SS figures. I have his Oola, Rebel Fleet Trooper, Garindan, Slave Leia, glow in the dark Jedi Spirits (Yoda, Anakin, Ben), Bantha and Ubrikkian 9000 vehicle. All amazing! 🍻
Love this Q&A series. Some interesting questions this week. Not sure what I'd grab in an emergency, but one thing is for sure, insurance or not, I'd be shedding some serious tears. I love the fan created custom figures - the offerings from Stan Solo in particular, but really anything that blends well with the vintage Kenner stuff. I've had the full vintage run of loose figures for 25+ years, so the next step for me in regards to figures was going with customs. I will say too, much like the new Hasbro retro line, Stan Solo did the community a great service by putting out the more rare figures like the blue snag and the last 17, so they're virtually identical to the originals, but are stamped SS so they can easily be identified and not mistaken for them. This allows for collectors to have these in their collections at a fraction of the price of what the originals would cost, while keeping the exact same look and feel. It may not be for everyone, but then again some folks have very limited budgets as well. I'm like you, I don't really care what other people say in regards to how I collect or what I collect, or even why I collect what I do. But I can understand why some people feel that there is gatekeeping in the community. There's always people that you look up to and try to emulate, and sometimes their opinions do have some sway on you and how you feel. It's a shame when people are so cut and dry that they won't allow for different types of collectors to be out there. That never made sense to me. As for repro, it all depends on what your goals are for your collection. Repro can be an easy way to complete something, be it a weapon, accessory, or even new stickers, so that your items look closer to complete/new. But like you, it really gets me when folks try to pass repro off as original and scam unknowing collectors. That's another reason why people should watch your videos & research using the sites you promote, so they know what's legit and what isn't. Knowledge truly is key, especially when you're shelling out big bucks. I keep trying to think of a question to ask for your future videos, maybe I'll think of one sometime soon. Until then, keep up the great work and keep having fun my friend.
Thanks for the comment Mopar, again, your thoughts and what you think are always added value and I hope more people read your comments. I really enjoy them. And yes, when you think of a question I’ll read that first lol.
Thanks for using my question Joey! While I'm not a completist and actually love many different late 70s toy lines, SW is by far my favorite! I would grab the Blue snags, give away the General Madine and embrace the Han Bespin that my mom got for me back in 1980 (re-glued head and a proper Han Blaster included) Never understood why they had a bespin blaster?!? Always loved the aliens & robots from the SW toy line! I bought the Smith Lord Creations R2-D2 and C-3p0 from DROIDS line...and they look great on the card in my display case! But still the thrill of the hunt would not stop me from buying original if the price was right! Knowledge will always pay off when purchasing vintage plastic! What other non SW toy lines would you collect if price (or space) wasn't an issue? Are there any toy lines you would like to see come back? Vintage style or otherwise? Good day to you TPC!!
Thanks Frak! I would love to do a series on the Voltron G1 toys and do a deep dive into the history. Also I would love to do a transformers first wave G1 run
I’ve bought from Stan Solo, and I had a good buying experience. His name is Chris Smith (I believe his son’s name is Stan and that is where the name comes from). He used to own another company Sith Lord Creations but he sold that a good while ago. I don’t go in for the remakes he does but the Slave Leia, Oola, Rebel Fleet Troopers and the figures we never got back in the eighties he has done as all pretty good.
Any one of the wish list you named for vintage figures could've replaced that frankly stupid Purple Pope we got, especially Tarkin. Why they didn't make a figure of a major speaking character baffles me to this day! Perhaps they thought they'd met their quota of 'Old White Dudes'? 😂🤣👍 I have the collectors edition of the Patrol Dewback that I got in the 90s simply because the original was never released in the UK, presumably because of Palitoys 'cherry picking' strategy to cut costs, the reason we never got the all plastic Death Star and other changes made to the Kenner releases for the UK Market. The reason I took up collecting again in the 90s was to fill in those irritating gaps! Great video Joey! 😁👍
You should do a video on what insurance is out there for collections and what plans do you have in place. That would be pretty cool to hear. Great content. I just picked up the 1st 21 with a blue snaggletooth w/dent and the 1st release for empire. It was like someone opened the carded figures and put them in a case and didn’t touch them again.
I totally agree, repro's should be totally obvious and not an effort at counterfeiting. And yes, every one of us gets to decide for ourselves how and what we collect. I don't even collect Star Wars toys, but I love the nostalgia of seeing all these great figures, vehicles, and playsets again! TY sir!
If you don't add a t-shirt for the Belching Beavers in your merch shop, I'm going to withdraw by support of your channel! LOL Another great episode. Thanks for sharing your research/knowledge with us.
I'm still surprised that to this day no one has ever made a remote control mouse droid, it would be so cool 😎 slave Leia would've been nice 👌 😍i wish they would've made a ship scanning crew figures. I don't like any repros or customs, but don't mind if it never was made. I actually like the collectors box better for the Landspeeder, colors look nicer. Nice video my Padawan 😉
Thanks for doing this episode. I'm not much for Stan Solo figures, but I think the only reason I would get SS figures is to do vintage style customs. I will NOT customize a vintage figure. To me, that is absolutely wrong, especially if it's a figure that is rare or was produced in a much lower number like POTF. I would love to have a slave Leia figure, but the thing is, money spent on a repro figure is money I could've had for a Kenner figure. Thanks for the video :)
You know once I saw the three collector series together I realized something. All three only appear in the first film and no others. Maybe that is why they were put under the brand.
Regarding the repro debate, i think repros are fine but agree they should be obvious. I recently completed a vintage figure run, not including variants or the last 17, and many of the figures i picked up are missing accessories. I bought a pack of repro accessories which i plan to clearly mark with a sharpie or something when i match them to figures. There's certainly no way to find vintage accesories for every loose figure out there because so many were lost forever to vacuum cleaners and back yards. So i dont mind the repro, but i definitely want to know that its repro.
What is your opinion on the Friar Tuck Robin hood figure and the Gammorean guards. For me he belongs in Jabba’s diorama with the Gamorrean Guards. Someone has to make the mead for the boys. He is also a great conversation piece.
Interesting that you threw the Hoth Rebel soldier under the bus. That was my go to Red Shirt for the rebels (as we never got the Fleet Trooper from the Tantive IV). The Rebel Commando was OK but he always reminded me of Smith from Alias Smith and Jones, which diminished his credibility in my young eyes.
I have to admit that I'm a bit torn on the repro vs custom debate. I don't like Hasbro or others making 'approved' conterfeit figures (like Yak Face) which the ordinary beginner collector doesn't even realize they want..I feel they are making them to screw old time collectors (like me) who have invested plenty of time and money in gaining these collectibles. Customs though, I love those. I have the Slave leia from Stan Solo , and its a treasure. So yes, customs are great, counterfeits are not.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial i always wanted one but as far as I know it was never made so I made one myself, looks pretty cool, shame you can’t show pictures on UA-cam
Great episode as usual! Question for next time: have you ever knowingly grossly overbid, and did you learn anything from it, such as techniques to discipline yourself? 😅
The only thing I must say is that a custom is made by a artist one time, once it’s replicated and made in a factory or mass produced it’s a product, Stan solo are not customs they are a product in the retro style, customs are one off not mass produced in a factory, with respect Joey always your brother
I really enjoyed listening to your answers to these questions and I think the same way that you do regarding repro and customs, it just wouldn’t sit right with me knowing that my vintage collection isn’t 100% original, I’m all about keeping it real when it comes to Star Wars vintage collecting 👍
I used to be pro repro weapons but lately I have been going back and getting original weapons for all my figures. Luckily most of them are original. I love stan solo and next 17, but only the customs. Not a fan of the repro figures. In case of emergency I'm grabbing my palitoy playsets and the uzay and toptoys figures.
Looks like an SLC stamp on that Blue Snaggletooth. That is Smith Lord Creations, which is the precursor to Stan Solo if I am not mistaken.
Hey Darth! Yes you are correct. That is before he sold the company

I’ve always wanted to get the Oola figure!
Fantastic video. The comments you made about repro, I feel the same way. None of us want to be a gatekeeper collector. Thank you my friend!
Thanks Mike! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🙌🏼

There's a Retro Tarkin included in the new release Escape from the Deathstar game.

Great question, I have done the research on this and consulted a lawyer on this and will answer in the next Q&A

I had to pick one, and funny enough the Rebel Commando was the next on my list!
One has to wonder,if so many figures were made, why are prices so high?
Do you think there will be a future collector market in hard to find repro's ?

Stan Solo produces most of the last 17 figures. He should go ahead and do them all.
How about Kenner making a proper hairy Tauntaun 👍
