I would have never though about the danger of what the hammock is attached to, falling on you. Thank you for sharing your story so people can be aware.
Mother and daughter in my neighborhood were on a hammock between two trees. Tree snapped, fell on the, mother broke her pelvis, daughter died. Be very, very careful where you place a hammock.

It doesn't matter if the hammock is tied to the chimney does it though? I mean clearly it did matter lol but, still the hammock was/is not the issue. So the warning should be to check that whatever youre tying it to, is secure. Now leave that poor hammock out of this...😂😂😂😂
Well she has family to take care of her, and excellent medical care, and now she's living on disability payments, so just imagine if the same accident happened to anyone else who doesn't have all those golden parachutes.
The man she’s engaged to wasn’t even her boyfriend. They had just had a few dates. Not too many men like him out in this world we live in. God bless both of them ❤
Hammock that come with its own standalone frame has been fine. Just hanging a hammock on an unknown pillar that could be unstable is where the danger lies.
I had a broadcasting professor in college whose wife was killed when a tree that was rotted fell on her while she was laying in a hammock. Just a sad freak accident.
An actual hammock stand is the only way I will use one. I’ve had my hammock stand for years, never had an issue. And even if it falls, the stand is not tall enough to crush an adult.
I know of one other girl who was quadriplegic because of the porch pillar her hammock was attached to collapsed on her, followed by part of the porch roof. She felt lucky to be alive, her doctors said two inches forward and her skull would’ve been crushed and she would not be here. Please heed the warnings and try to prevent these types of injuries.
It's very humbling and saddening to realize that one small decision can completely change our life for the better or for the worse. Life is so fragile. Sometimes we get away with things that should've hurt or killed us, while other times we do something so seemingly insignificant and our whole life is completely changed.
I’ve lived through a stroke after I woke up I couldn’t move my body. So I figured out how to use my phone with my nose. I now can use my hands and fingers. I've heard of so many hammock accidents by now, I'm pretty sure I'll never use one ever again, no matter how safe it looks.
Or use a hammock in a hammock stand. You wouldn't hang your bedroom bed to two trees, so why do it to a hammock?
