That's just another reason why I don't have a TV in my reloading room or a radio or talk on the cell phone. I'm glad that you're showing other reloaders how easy things can happen and being humble enough to admit it. Love watching your content!
You have to give the good with the bad as well as take it. I trained apprentices in automotive, and the lessons they remember the most are the ones where I showed them how I screwed up. Well done Erik, good luck.
Had One of those "why didn't I think of that" moments in regards to the bullet puller. Great idea. As always thanks for the knowledge. Good luck next weekend!
Read this and tell me if you think it's still a good idea! www.shootersforum.com/threads/inertial-bullet-puller-warning.50347 I tried it with a dummy round and it rattled around a lot, which I found annoying!
Thank you so much. Being so humble and honesty is highly appreciated. I screwed up last time, ended up with a blown primer and a very, very stiff bolt. I was lucky I did not get hurt. No more phone calls or people around me when reloading. Cheers & stay safe, Sir!
Erik, you're a genius! The shell holder trick is a great idea. Like many great answers, simple! Thank you for sharing your major mistake regarding powder charging. Most people would not be big enough to reveal to the world such a dangerous and embarrassing mistake. Good for you! Thank you.
oh my goodness that shell holder trick is worth the like on its own! Good luck to you on shooting, setbacks are a fact of life and it's not what happens its how we react to it that matters.
Okay so that trick with the shell holders is brilliant!! My young sons are learning how to reload and we use the bullet pullers a lot but those rubber band bushings are worn out. Thanks for the tip!
I did just the opposite this spring. No powder! That really sucked. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it will keep someone else for doing the same Erik. 🤞🏻👍
G'day, Impressed that you shared your mistake, it is not easy to do. I was reloading 357 mag on Sunday. The powder dispenser count was one higher than what I finished with in my loading trays, When I did my standard "look inside the case" to check for powder, before putting the pill in, guess what I saw? A double charge in one case. Just goes to show the value of good procedures, checks and balances. Before putting powder in, all my cases are "Primer up" in the loading block.
On the ear muffs, if you find a good brand that is compatible, they make replacement pads for pilots that are awesome. You can even get them on Amazon in gel, memory foam, suede, pleather, lycra, just about anything you want and trash the cheap plastic OEM pads. When they're on your head all day you have to be comfortable. Happened to talk to my buddy today and he has an original set of those dies Speedy made for him. Even he didn't know the 'S' stood for Speedy.
Yep, man that sucks. I did this years ago with a 308 winchester. The recoil was most impressive. Blew the primer. At the time I was nervous, but after i got home and thought about what had just transpired I was sick. If you are having one of those days were the phone is ringing, visitors or just an off day, don't load! Catch a calm day, it could save your face! Just saying ! Great tips by the way! Good luck at your match! May you have the smallest groups, all day long!
Outstanding tip on using the shell holder with the bullet puller, thanks for sharing that. Also, it takes a big man to admit his mistakes, and an overcharge can happen easy when you get distracted. Depending on how warm your working load is, those extra 4 grains could have been exciting. Glad to see it was just blowing primers. Cuidado!
Hey Eric I had a tip I thought I might share in the lid of the Lapua bullet box there is a grid with circles in it . It is made to come out of the lid and snap into the middle of the box to hold the cartridge upright which you probably already know just wanted to share with the shooting community. I wanted to add that I am really enjoying patreon thank you for the content
I loaded for a match last weekend and forgot to prime my brass before powder... lol It was my first match and even a week before I was super nervous! Good luck at your match!
I've been reloading pistol for fifteen years but just now moving into the realm of rifle. I was watching panhandle precision videos then heard about yours. Lots of great information and you have an affable disposition so I'm enjoying your videos and learning a lot.
I've always gone from the dispenser to the balance beam for throwing powder. I use a Lyman 1200 and just don't trust it 100% of the time. The balance beam always confirms it. GREAT idea on the bullet puller!!
Very glad you didn't get injured. Please keep the videos coming. They are GREAT! ....loaded with useful tips/tricks and excellent information. ( Thank you! ). Looking forward to new F-class videos too
Erik I followed you from somewhere else 😉where you made the comment "if you know, you know" Like the way you deliver your content and how you aren't afraid to share the mistakes. Good luck shooting!
I learned two things today and I appreciate the lesson, First shoot the short ones first! something so obvious yet I never thought of it. Two always, always pay attention while reloading because all of us are capable of making mistakes. Thank you for the reminder.
Showing the good with the bad, that’s integrity right there. You are setting the benchmark for teaching and sharing your knowledge with us. Thank you for another fantastic video sir!
Erik, you have recently become one of my heroes. I was a construction manager in my work life and you preach some of my work principles. Also concrete is one of passions. I also really enjoy shooting and reloading. No I'm not a competition shooter, but I like what you say and how you say it. I love your honesty and humility. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing and kudos on the ownership. In aviation, it’s easy to throw rocks and say “pilot error, I would never do that!” But human error is real; no one is perfect.
Erik, I have been reloading for 45 years. I have made some mistakes as well. Luckily I was never hurt. Fortunately, you weren't hurt either. I have always learned from my mistakes,. Sometimes we can learn more from the bad things, than we learn from the good things. Thank-you for sharing your story. It took a good, honest man to admit what happened. To me, this makes your videos even more credible than ever. I will start triple checking my powders charges from now on. Maybe you didn't get the necessary development and testing done, but you are still in one piece. That's what matters.
Love the honesty. It's good to know that even pro's make mistakes occasionally. When loading I leave all devices upstairs BUT that doesn't mean distractions still don't happen. (dogs need to be let out/in etc) The device part is about to change though. Just got my V3 autotrickler. (this is going to be such a godsend compared to how I was doing my powder charges) Could run it from the scale buttons but it's so much easier from the phone when bumping charges. ;-) Good luck with the match!
I'm going to have to try the clr cleaner, never thought about that even though I use it for engine cooling systems. You're exactly right about focusing on what you're doing, I put my phone in the fridge turn the radio on then start setting cams, valves, injectors, pump timing etc. Making someone mad for not answering the phone is cheaper than blowing up a high dollar engine!
That is what I like about this channel not only do we get information but there is a human eliminate to it as well. Keep up the great work really appreciate all that you do!
After you set up everything for loading. Check your load data again. Primers, bullets, brass, and verify powder charge. Use a load card, either out of berry ammo boxes ect. or make your own on business cards.
First big props to you admitting you made a mistake! In the gun community we act like we never make mistakes when it comes to safety but it's not ture. You figured it out and fixed it. We strive for your best but we are not perfect. Now the shell holder in the impact puller brings back memories. I was doing load development on a Winchester 270 with a Sierra 130 gn Game King on with IMR 4831. Full box loaded up, it was 5 round strings with 7 loads so , fucking dropped it! That is when I figured out the standard shell holder thing! Real quick! It works great.
Jesus christ that shellholder trick is epic, why have I never thought of that? I've been loading for like 10 years and got collets for every caliber. But I prefer the hammer because it doesn't mark the bullets. You rock dude.
I do a ton or reloading and shooting. I like that you are realistic. Things aren't always rainbows and gumdrop smiles when it comes to finding loads and working on rifles. I am glad you show even the bad experiences. Those are what you learn from. Good video.
Show me a man who doesn’t make mistakes and I’ll show you a man who doesn’t do anything. Erik I’m sure you’ve made mistakes that have helped you learn more to help us all shoot better. Thank you for the coaching and counseling to be safely diligent. I love the shop videos and your attention to detail. I’m sure that’s why your products are so popular too. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
For rifle cartridges, I still use a balance scale for every round. Hand scoop 90% of target powder weight, finish with a powder trickler (or hand scoop). Visually verify all rounds by looking down the neck. A big batch is 50 rounds for me.
Thanks so much for the shell holder tip!!! I’ve always dreaded using mine. Now I’m feeling stupid again for not thinking of something that smart. Appreciate your generosity of time. Joe Maloney
Here's a tip for you Erik I keep my load data on the computer as an XL file after i have hand written everything through load development. I print a copy of the current data referenced by serial number of the rifle. ( I have three rifles in 6mmXC that can interchange brass as the chambers are within .002" of each other) So when I go to do my loading session i do not rely on memory. I pull out the folder, open to the page with the data for the rifle I'm making ammo for and go from there. this way there is less chance of a simple mistake like this happening. Write everything down
I have a spreadsheet on my phone that does the same thing. I keep data on each barrel. I have no idea how I did it, but I did it. Brain fart is all I can think of.
Thank you for your videos. I always seem to take away at least one tip or trick that you put in your videos. I really appreciate you putting the information out there and helping to grow the sport! Keep up the amazing work!
Just found your channel an it’s great learning a lot an what I like is you are down to earth if you make a mistake you will say it probably most other loaders would prolly never say they made a mistake Thank you James
I look forward to your video/ vlogs, really looking forward to the “Load Development” series.. An old timer at my local range told me that if your load is stringing up and down, that is your powder charge, and if it is stinging horizontally, then it’s your seating depth... Is that correct?
Don’t get distracted! Best advice for hand loading. I had a brown-pants moment once that wasn’t due to distraction. +200 FPS in SIG 357 😵💫 It was a process error. Stopped immediately and didn’t go forward until I figured out what the problem was.
Okay I had to subscribe. This was a very real video and it’s nice to know that even the pros mess up sometimes. Thanks for making this amateur feel a little better about the reloading game
I was starting to think I'd made a mistake building a 6BR (after only plinking with my dads 6PPC) Looking forward to anything on the 6BR. Great tip on the bullet holder.
You can bv also use CLR and Lime Away in your pressure washer if you live in the country and your water well has hard water.I run it thru mine when Im done to clean it out..It saves the pump.
The fact that you owned up to your mistake and showed it, as well as the way you handled it makes me like this channel even more. Very respectable
Shell holder tip is a good one!
I agree!
"Mess"
Dude if my bench was that clean, I'd be stoked. Lol.
😂
Ditto, but I know exactly where everything is, ( on my bench).
You should have seen my reloading bench after our big quake up here in AK last November. 😜
That's just another reason why I don't have a TV in my reloading room or a radio or talk on the cell phone.
I'm glad that you're showing other reloaders how easy things can happen and being humble enough to admit it.
Love watching your content!
Good luck on your match Eric. Slow down, and be careful. As Johnny would say, "Don't blow your face off!"
You have to give the good with the bad as well as take it. I trained apprentices in automotive, and the lessons they remember the most are the ones where I showed them how I screwed up. Well done Erik, good luck.
What a great tip on the kinetic Hammer, thanks!
Had One of those "why didn't I think of that" moments in regards to the bullet puller. Great idea. As always thanks for the knowledge. Good luck next weekend!

Like that primer my mind is blown on using the shell holder in the hammer. Thanks for the awesome tip!!
Great teacher, humility is rare today. Thanks for sharing this video.
So glad you decided to get more into making more videos man. Your smart feller and is in the community are glad to have you helping us!
Wow!! A shell holder in place of the rubber band holder. How smart.
Great tip . Thanks
I have made a lot of bad mistakes in my life but to date I have never made a good mistake. Keep up the good videos Eric.
oh my goodness that shell holder trick is worth the like on its own! Good luck to you on shooting, setbacks are a fact of life and it's not what happens its how we react to it that matters.
Love the cattle passing through the firing line! Lol
Okay so that trick with the shell holders is brilliant!! My young sons are learning how to reload and we use the bullet pullers a lot but those rubber band bushings are worn out. Thanks for the tip!

This was worth watching for many reasons, but my favorite thing was the shell holder trick for the kinetic puller.
That’s what makes this hobby great. It takes focus. Thanks for sharing. Pulling bullets sucks 😩

I have shared the shell holder tip(crediting you) in a few places and you are getting an ever increasing heap of appreciation for it.
Yaaasss! Can’t wait for the 6mm BR reloading series... looking forward to learning from one of the best! Thanks Erik ✌🏽
Thanks Mr. Cortina for showing the bullet puller with the shell holder trick. That is a great idea
Mate - I know how time consuming it is to do a video. So deep appreciation that you do this for us! Thanks.
Ahhhh... a soul crushing mistake that ruins a shooting session. Unfortunately I'm well acquainted.
Thanks for the tip on the o ring. Good video and information
I loaded for a match last weekend and forgot to prime my brass before powder... lol It was my first match and even a week before I was super nervous! Good luck at your match!
I did this last year. Same situation. I think I was distracted by a text and started loading. Never again.
Yeah, don't you love that when you pick that brass up and it spills all over the place fff____k 🤣

Glad you didn't get hurt
You need to get Demo involved with PRS too.
I use CLR for my my titanium suppressor parts, it does work great.
thank you for that awesome bullet pull trick... I hate trying to squeeze a bullet through with that band. great videos thank you sir!

I appreciate your honesty a lot of guys would have deleted the blown prime segment
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I appreciate you letting us learn from your mistakes.
Glad the end result was not worse. Thanks so much for sharing and giving us all a heads up. Stay well.

Really awesome you showed this. Thanks Erik!
You actually blew my mind with the shell holder on the kinetic puller! Can't believe I never realized that, such a good idea!
Thanks for keeping it real. Showing mistakes helps all of us to learn.
Shell holder tip was mint, cheers from New Zealand.
There's only two kind of shooters: those who don't reload and those who have made reloading mistakes we got lucky weren't worse.
Good luck for the weekend Erik... and thanks for the bullet puller tip.
Thanks for sharing Eric! Good luck next weekend!
That is what I like about this channel not only do we get information but there is a human eliminate to it as well. Keep up the great work really appreciate all that you do!
wow thats a great idea with the shell holder in the bullet puller hammer! Thanks for the tip!
Oh my f×#&! Thank you! That trick for the puller is gold. I will never have a shell pull through that stupid rubber band thing again
After you set up everything for loading. Check your load data again. Primers, bullets, brass, and verify powder charge. Use a load card, either out of berry ammo boxes ect. or make your own on business cards.
Awesome video Erik! Not many folks would admit, much less confess on camera a mistake like that ... looking forward to your future videos.

WOW.. Thank you Erik Cortina for the shell holder and Hammer trick . thank you from Italy
Great video the shell holder trick for the kinetic hammer genius I hate using those 3 jawed one keep breaking no matter what.
Great video thanks for showing that mistakes can happen to even the best of us, and it's great you are willing to show that.
Learning so much! Cheers.
Glad I’m not the only one that makes mistakes. Good tip on using shell holder. In the bullet puller.
Genius! Great tip on the shell holder in the impact puller..
Thanks Erik for the sharing enjoyed it much.

That is a real time saver on pulling bullets thanks I never thought that shell holders would fit the kenntic killers. Like your vids

It happens to the best of us ay. Appreciate your honesty, it's the only way to learn.
@@ErikCortina Yep. been there done that.
8:30 Erik: "Don't do anything while you reload, stay focused"
ME: " Now I can't watch EC vids as I currently sit here reloading"
Awesome video!
Thank you for your videos. I always seem to take away at least one tip or trick that you put in your videos. I really appreciate you putting the information out there and helping to grow the sport! Keep up the amazing work!
Great tip on the bullet puller. And, BTW, your tuner will be here Saturday.
Did the same last week. Thanks for the tip about the kinetic hammer too.
Just found your channel an it’s great learning a lot an what I like is you are down to earth if you make a mistake you will say it probably most other loaders would prolly never say they made a mistake
Thank you James
I discovered the shell holder trick a couple of years ago. I mostly use a collet puller now.
Great. Thanks nice trick with the shell holder
I appreciate your candor. Best wishes. J.
Thanks for the tip on the puller with a shell holder...
I look forward to your video/ vlogs, really looking forward to the “Load Development” series.. An old timer at my local range told me that if your load is stringing up and down, that is your powder charge, and if it is stinging horizontally, then it’s your seating depth... Is that correct?
No
Don’t get distracted! Best advice for hand loading.
I had a brown-pants moment once that wasn’t due to distraction. +200 FPS in SIG 357 😵💫 It was a process error. Stopped immediately and didn’t go forward until I figured out what the problem was.
Oooh "Smokey eye" lol, dang that's some complicated work, but y'all got it down to an art...
Thanks for the bullet puller tip!
