Elden Ring is still a game about skill rather than RPG numbers. I would also highly recommend glintblade phalanx on any greatsword. It's great for creating openings and punishing passive play due to its very high poise damage. If you're specialized into intelligence, it also does a considerable amount of damage to boot.
I agree that phalanx is good but only really in a small arena and it tends to force the opponent to play even MORE passive because you now have priority as long as the glint blades are active.Thats assuming a smart and patient player. If youve got the time to wait for the opponent to go on the offensive, it has the potential to be s top tier AOW. If anyone reading this is interesting in learning more about incorporating Claymore’s combo in your gameplay, I highly recommend Omega’s video on the topic. He showcases setups and strategies regarding claymore, and is generally one of the very best players in the game. Additionally, on the topic of chasedowns: I’ve found that one of the very best offhands for greatsword is a dagger. Running R2 true combos into an L1, and you can reaction rollcatch with the L1 in general. Great for wake ups and I always pull it out for passive opponents. The rR2 also has great range and momentum, and free aiming it is very useful. Hope all this helps someone.
@@Garvey-vm3qt yea 1h rr1-r1 is a tc. You also wouldnt be “reaction roll catching” with a true combo, cuz, you know… they arent rolling, theyre stunned. You can offdagger AFTER you get the rr1-r1 tc as a roll catch, but you know
@@Rust_BKT yeah I meant reaction rollcatch after the true combo. It does more damage combined that a neutral r1 in my experience. Better status buildup too. Only loses to unreactable monkey mash
Right now I'm having a lot of fun invading with a greatshield w the bash and a greatsword. With frost on both its been going rather well, but this video is gonna help. Great watch
Hope to see other guifes for other weapon types, even weapons that are of a weapon class but function mostl different than that weapon class, like how the naginata is different than most spears
Yo thats actually a really good point. Im brainstorming a few ideas but i never want to release a detailed guide without being able to confidently speak to what the topic is, so for each one ill have to do quite a lot of research and colabs. You never know what you dont know, you know?
5:31 I think the Level 2 hitstun lasts for 25 frames instead of the 24 stated in the video (being able to roll out on the 26th frame) because it started the count at frame 0 :)
I think that if youre counting from 1 action to the next its still 24 frames. Target gets stunned on the 18th frame of your attack, that 18th frame is frame 0 of the stun, follow up is 24 frames after the 18th. If youre 1 frame late, you dont connect. I think that still checks out.
This video is supercool to be honest, thank you for the video. I would LOVE to have the greatsword become just a little more meta but it's okay anyway I guess. Thank you again, very interesting
Great information. I can only assume that armor setup is tactical, because anyone coming in for a duel must do a double-take when they see that and get thrown completely off for the rest of the fight.
Ill keep it in mind but i wont be able to fit that in anytime soon. Im not very knowledgable on them and id want to do right by them if i were to do a similar style of guide
@@Rewdy04 tossing between some ideas, i dont have a lot of time to produce several videos at a time otherwise the one im looking into rn is the topic of movement principles including block cancels, wavedashing, negative spacing, and priority. As far as a weapon video goes, i theres a few i want to learn, but a deep dive in HTS would probably be first up. you missed two true combos with kgs uncharged r2 -> early hit r1 jr2 -> early hit r1 iirc both of these are also frame perfect so freeaim is necessary for consistency
@@Rust_BKT i haven’t actually checked uncharged r2 in a long time so i could be misremembering, but jr2 r1 is a true combo if you’re somehow able to hit with the last frame of the jr2 hitbox and the first frame of the followup r1, there are 0 frames of leniency. it’s not realistic to always hit with the final active frame of jr2 but it is possible to force a tc
Impaing thrust you have to delay to catch a panic roll, and it doesnt go as far and i have better success free aiming it than locked on. For piercing fang, you queue it immediately after a hit and it will roll catch if they panic roll away. I like piercing fang more just because it provides another neutral close option.
I am eternally trying to decide what affinity to set these greatswords to on my str/fth build. Heavy+electrify(w/ godslayers ofc)? Or Just sacred or flame art and save the fp? Or just use inseparable and use dexterity talisman to make up the stat requirements, and just cry over the short range? Use banished knights for heavy infusion and KGS for faith infusion? I've got a 34/35+2 spread for str/fth stats.
I actually really like inseparable sword. Its a bit short but the damage is nuts.it sounds like youre going a faith route, id suggest that if youre meeting soft cap break points on faith, youre probably best going holy infused for pvp. You could try the buff stacking route and go flame art but i dont think many people will let you buff that much in arena to make it worth it
Update after testing on a beastman (equal holy and physical negation): Banished knights is superior in virtually every way. Better AR as either sacred or heavy plus sacred order (I did factor in sacred blades buff on inseparable as well when comparing) outdamages inseparable depending on the stat investment. It has better aow scaling, better range, and is infusable. The only thing inseparable has got is bonus against undead enemies. Tested levels of str and faith between 34 and 60 using stat boosting equipment.
JR2 literally does less damage than your JR1 since the JR1 true combos into a follow up R1, plus the JR2 has a significantly higher recovery time and a narrow hitbox, making it very easy to punish. Sword dance is backstab fodder, the poise damage on it is split, so if someone strafes, even if they est the first hit, they can avoid the second and land a free backstab, or roll backstab it, since the recovery on it is so long. But, if it works for you, go for it
Iron greatsword is very short with the worst overall moveset, making it incredibly difficult to maintain pressure with psuedo combos. It may have high damage, but it requires heavy prediction and mistakes by your opponent
Ive thought about it, but the only thing that really changed was hyperarmor values and the fact that you get squished by anyone running full bullgoat now. Maybe when dlc comes out and enough changes about the weapon
GSs have same scaling with str and dex. Can I make good GS build on dex? I would have much more weapons to chose from. Like katanas and GSs and spears. As I understand pure GS build must have like 50 str 50 dex for better dmg scaling. Maybe I don't know smth? Plz help :D
@@jekabro7435 you want to avoid split scaling damage in most cases. With the way how defenses apply, even though your AR is higher on paper, your opponent ends up taking less damage overall. You can bolster that by using fire tear in your physic and flame grant me strength, but youre sacrificing alot of defenses by not using crab and a defensive tear in trade of a modest amount of damage.
I actually really enjoy twinblades, i might have to do that. It will probably be a while though, i have some other projects i want to work on atm and i dont have the time to do several videos at a time

I find that chase down is a weakness with the majority of weapons in ER. It really is a failure of the game that is definitely part of why I refuse to PvP anymore. Cool guide, though.
If you're actually going to sit there and practice jumping at the perfect angle unlocked so that your janky glitchy hitbox FORCES a true combo into existence, GGs, you win Elden Ring. I'ma just keep spamming R1 myself, but cool valuable info nonetheless

@@Rust_BKT if you have the time and interest, I'd definitely would love to see your thoughts on CGS!
in the meanwhile, I gotta go check out your other stuff. great content!
PERSONALLY i tend to walk straight into them just to get it out of the way because im bad at the “who will get bored first” game. So theyre GREAT against me 🤣
I wish your channel to become bigger and more popular, because this is one of the best Elden Ring PvP channels that I have seen! Thank you for so much useful information! Community needs organised guides like this.
Btw if you accept any feedback, I don't think you actually need to follow your speech with your character gestures. That's not bad, but I just don't think a viewer needs it. And you can save your time and energy.
Thanks for the compliment!
I appreciate the feedback too, i know it can be a little cringe and it takes fucking ages to script the animations together, and it would save me hours of work, but for now atleast, i feel like it helps me show some personality where i normally have a pretty dry and monotone voice. Im still working on how to show my identity and personality without coming off as just a audiobook, you know? But if you have any ideas im all ears!
@@Rust_BKT I don't actually have any Ideas, so the only thing I can say is that you voice is totally good, clear and nice already.
But also, if something bothers you about how your voice is on video, you can try not to change anything or try to be less monotone, but just buy better microphone. I can say depending on my own experience that just having a good microphone can make your audio track be much tasty without any other effort on your part! That's pretty pleasant feeling when you're talking into good microphone and on the record you're hearing like the better version of your own self, more confident, loud, clear, with tasty and nice sounding speech.
Anyway, you can easily ignore me, I just trying to say actually that you're super good and keep it up!
@@flower-py naw thats a good point and i think thats the next step for me. Trying to cut out the spikes in the audio or rerecord over them is brutal.
@@flower-py i personally actually quite like the gestures and think the complete removal of them would lessen the enjoyability of the vids. Although i would agree maybe there are a couple too many on occasion lol

I love fighting people that use this sword. They try to trade damage but get absolutely annihilated by rusted anchor warcry
i am the guy that gets annihilated by rusted anchor warcry, hi, can i have my teeth back? i left a few on the floor
Rr1 tc with r1, why would you do l1 for less damage?
@@Rust_BKT rr1 to r1 on claymore? And mostly for the reaction rollcatch to finish off low health.
Hold up, im dumb and been tying rr1 this whole time, rr2-r1 tc. Mb
hell yea, love chase. u almost got me with that
Nice video!!! I love my great swords, regardless of their shortcomings
Can't wait for the movement video!
I hope your channel blows up my friend. You make quality content. Easy sub, cheers 🍻

Right now I'm having a lot of fun invading with a greatshield w the bash and a greatsword. With frost on both its been going rather well, but this video is gonna help. Great watch
🌞 thank you for this video
🙏
Glad you like it! 😄
Great video man 👍
Remember how good greatswords were in ds3? Those were the days…
Indeed. Take your time, love the content
This is insane, best guide I have seen.
Thanks for the high praise!

@@Rust_BKT I see it now, thanks
Very good video dude
Damn this what I needed and it appeared in my recommended 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Glad you found it!
This video is supercool to be honest, thank you for the video.
I would LOVE to have the greatsword become just a little more meta but it's okay anyway I guess.
Thank you again, very interesting
Yessss finally 🙌🙌
I read this title in Phil's voice from the animated Hercules 😅
This channel is simply amazing
Thanks 😄
Great information. I can only assume that armor setup is tactical, because anyone coming in for a duel must do a double-take when they see that and get thrown completely off for the rest of the fight.

Thats a great idea 😂 and thanks, ill keep doing my best
Can you do a guide for curved greatswords?
Ill keep it in mind but i wont be able to fit that in anytime soon. Im not very knowledgable on them and id want to do right by them if i were to do a similar style of guide
@@Rust_BKT which weapon is next?
@@Rewdy04 tossing between some ideas, i dont have a lot of time to produce several videos at a time otherwise the one im looking into rn is the topic of movement principles including block cancels, wavedashing, negative spacing, and priority. As far as a weapon video goes, i theres a few i want to learn, but a deep dive in HTS would probably be first up. I actually really want to learn ps katanas, halstoc, and single gspear, but i want to be well informed before i make an informative video on them.
I'm watching all your videos in the playlist (The Road to get Gooder) right now.
these videos so professional unfortunately people like me who don't speak English very well couldn't understand everything specially with all specific numbers you were mentioned.
i really love your work and videos but i wish the next videos will be simpler for people like me.
I'm sorry if i bothered you with my comment forgive me but I'm really interested in your instructions.
i love your work and videos.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos! Im sorry that its difficult to understand, i will try to keep in mind that some of my viewers dont speak english as their primary language, but i will admit, i think it will be difficult for me to achieve. Ill see what i can do
you missed two true combos with kgs
uncharged r2 -> early hit r1
jr2 -> early hit r1
iirc both of these are also frame perfect so freeaim is necessary for consistency
I believe both of those are 1 frame off of true. Its been a while since i double checked but im almost certain
@@Rust_BKT i haven’t actually checked uncharged r2 in a long time so i could be misremembering, but jr2 r1 is a true combo if you’re somehow able to hit with the last frame of the jr2 hitbox and the first frame of the followup r1, there are 0 frames of leniency. it’s not realistic to always hit with the final active frame of jr2 but it is possible to force a tc
jr2 doesnt TC, no@@ThisIsOurParadise
@Rust_Bucket can you speak to the differences between using piercing fang versus impaling thrust for GS rollcatch combos?
Impaing thrust you have to delay to catch a panic roll, and it doesnt go as far and i have better success free aiming it than locked on. For piercing fang, you queue it immediately after a hit and it will roll catch if they panic roll away. I like piercing fang more just because it provides another neutral close option.
great vid, ugs version pls
I definitely am looking at it, it wont be for a little while but thats one i definitely want to do
Good video :^)
Would love to see a dagger handbook
You could try the buff stacking route and go flame art but i dont think many people will let you buff that much in arena to make it worth it
Update after testing on a beastman (equal holy and physical negation):
Banished knights is superior in virtually every way.
I use sword knight great sword on pvp all the time .
Isn't this the sequel to 3 games that where all a metaphor for depression
Hi could you say something about Banished KGS?
Its not as pretty as KGS
Doesn't the banished great sword have the same moveset as the knights great sword? Banished seems to do more damage in a strength build
Banished does a few extra points of damage but its shorter, making roll catches and wiff punishes less consistsnt
Man that Notkjell guy seems like the type of guy to like kjelly
factual
Thx for video 🙏❤️🩹
I like to wait for a window of opportunity, then I do a jump R2.
If my opponent in rushing at me, I'll use sword dance to combo them.
But, if it works for you, go for it
@@Rust_BKT I meant to say RB, I play on an xbox one
@@Brute_Studios ahhh that makes sense
Where do you find the weapon frame data at 1:46 ?
er-frame-data.nyasu.business/
Any difference between KGS and BKGS? I mean, both have same moveset but idk if any of the parameters change.
BKGS is shorter but a few extra AR of damage. and its uglier
@@Rust_BKT you take that back 😤
Average KGS Enjoyer
bro, stop telling them our secrets wtf 😢 great video as always
Bro no one’s gonna start using it 😭 gotta be dedicated
what about the iron greatsword? it has the highest damage
Iron greatsword is very short with the worst overall moveset, making it incredibly difficult to maintain pressure with psuedo combos. It may have high damage, but it requires heavy prediction and mistakes by your opponent
It would be wonderful if you could make a 1.10 update to this video :)
Ive thought about it, but the only thing that really changed was hyperarmor values and the fact that you get squished by anyone running full bullgoat now. Maybe when dlc comes out and enough changes about the weapon
This is just a flex.
No this is a flex 💪
GSs have same scaling with str and dex. Can I make good GS build on dex? I would have much more weapons to chose from. Like katanas and GSs and spears. As I understand pure GS build must have like 50 str 50 dex for better dmg scaling. Maybe I don't know smth? Plz help :D
You can, but you lose out on defenses from going strength
@@Rust_BKT yeah I got it. If I want pure GS build that must be full str with fire
Got over 1000 hours with claymore, only reason I play er.
1h Halberd does 125 poise damage not 91 right?
124 poise damage, you need 125 to tank it. Yep. Did i say 91? If so, my bad. Ill need to fix that
Thank you rust bucket, KGS forever

ANY opponent who abuses light rolls and running away is unbeatable for almost every weapon type, only spears have a chance
Pretty much yep
Ok but i want to use the golden order greatsword. Sigh.
whats stopping you?
Well nothing. Was just a comment for emphasize how much my beloved Golden Order Greatsword lacks of good things and i can't use mostly anything combo speaking of this (great!) video with that. Oof.
dont let optimization stop you from using something you enjoy
That's why i use it 😉@@Rust_BKT
I really hate passive players, I feel like I'm forced to use HTS just to be able to rollcatch anything.
Passive play is very strong in this game. Its boring as shit but its the best option to go for

I find that chase down is a weakness with the majority of weapons in ER. It really is a failure of the game that is definitely part of why I refuse to PvP anymore.
Cool guide, though.
Katars, halberds, hts, single gspear, thrusting sword, spears
But at the end of the day, youre right. If soemone decides they dont want to get hit and they have inifinite space to run, theres not much you can do
If you're actually going to sit there and practice jumping at the perfect angle unlocked so that your janky glitchy hitbox FORCES a true combo into existence, GGs, you win Elden Ring. I'ma just keep spamming R1 myself, but cool valuable info nonetheless
Tbh, its really not that hard, and jump strafing is valuable against many weapons with anti air anyway. Either way. Theres always claymore.

I was trying to suggest your channel to a friend of mine, but we realized that when searching for Rust_Bucket or even rust_buckest 4549, youtube doesn't offer it among the search results.
It's a bit sad, maybe you should give the channel a more unique name.

I didnt give the channel the numbers, thats just a default youtube thing. But rust_bucket has alot of backstory, so im really not inclined to change it
The damage on a greatsword is high. It’s slower than katanas, or straight swords. Just slow as fuck, and has poise to it.
