This is going to be the nicest Volvo 122 on earth. The craftsmanship that went into this car is insane
Thanks - there's a lot of nice 122's out there. I just hope to be in that group.
These couldn’t have come out any better! Beautiful work as always
Thanks - it was a bumpy ride from time to time as the metal shaping was a lot harder than I thought. 16 ga...what was I thinking!
Love your attention to detail. Legendary.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow, just wow! No question, you are raising the bar for the local car community!
Just keeping up with the Jones's.
Local?! LOL For any car builder anywhere!
I could imagine the original designer of that grille would be very pleased with what they see... no bean counters to spoil the details!
Top notch work
I'm glad that even though I changed the dimensions, it managed to come out looking balanced. I hope the original designer would be pleased.
The small details are 10% of the job but 90% of the work. They are also the difference between a job well done and a job half arsed. You've done a tremendous job with the grill, it probably looks better now than the original. You're right to knock out the tedious jobs first then the rest won't be as big of a chore. I admire your dedication to this project.
Thanks - so very true. I've got to keep going on these little jobs that I know will kill progress.
They definitely look professional, awesome work as always. they look amazing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to have you back! Grill looks awesome, nice to hear your happy with it too
Thanks 👍 I'll do my best to not drop off the map for quite so long.
You do amazing work on everything! How you muster the patience, nobody will ever know.
Thanks - I just try to do the best I can.
What a great episode! Thanks for being back!
Glad you enjoyed it! There is video in that set starting in October! I should be on my normal schedule for the next bit.
Wow, you should be very proud of what you've done, they look fantastic!! 🏁
Thanks
Spectacular results from using some fairly simple tools and processes. Congratulations on a job well done!
Thanks - I really appreciate it. You've been such an inspiration over the years.
Time and patience is the key to a beautiful finish, perfection is never achieved but beautiful workmanship and detailed fitting produces a beautiful finish.
Can not wait to be able to see the volvo finish and in my sunlight.
She is going to look beautiful and sleek.
I sure do hope so. I tend not to stand back and look at things when I'm working on them. I try to laser in on the task.
Way to persevere! I can’t believe how amazing they look.
Thank you so much! I'm very pleased with the result.
Those grills look amazing, and a while lot of work. Hats off to your persistence ;)
Thanks Mate...you're a tough act to follow.
It won't be a Volvo, but The Volvo.
Beautiful work as usual.
Well, I'm not that bold.
Totally worth the wait... Your workmanship is incredible, the grill looks awesome!
Your videos are refreshing to watch and entertaining. Look forward to more great content.
Thank you very much!
They look brilliant! Well done that man!
Thanks!
Hello Sir
That's looks Amezing ! Can't wait to see the finish Car 👍👌🤙
Thanks! One more step closer.
And you're still faster than the British Marque!
But their car runs and drives!
Stunning. Well done. I can't fathom how long that took but as I work on my stainless exhaust I totally get it. Tough stuff but worth the effort in the end.
I had no idea how long it would take. I knew it would take a while, but not this long.
Jigs are great if someone down the line needs the part you just made, having the jig to make new parts is gonna save you time and time is money
True.
Excellent work! I definitely align with the ludicrous rabbit hole of making exactly what you want. If along the way you gain new skills and tools, then who can say it wasn't worth it.
Exactly.
Really nice work! Worth the time.
Thanks a lot!
Heavy weight champion of the Garage, M'Comma Dolly... 🙂 Nice work as usual, glad to see you're still making progress.
LOL - I was sure I wouldn't break the nice dolly - but the cheap one (which I've had since high school) had the most savage hammer polish I've ever put on a tool. Maybe next time I try a little 20 gauge - these things are pretty bomb proof.
So nice to see these finished! Your work ethic and attention to detail remain a source of inspiration for me. I have just finished a frame off/frame surgery/suspension replacement on my project that had a similar long detour due to unforeseen issues, so I feel your pain and also share your excitement in getting a difficult part of the project DONE.
It's never an easy road, but once you break through the blocks and see the progress, it's very satisfying.
Craig, as always you've gone wayyyyyy over the top! I so admire your willingness to get it right rather than just OK. Ask me how I know.
Thanks Alan. I have to keep that Canadian car building reputation going.
Wow. That trim and grille looks really nice.
Thanks
Absolute art work!
It did feel a bit like an art project as I was making it all work.
What a journey!. Beautiful! Thanks :-)
Thanks - a lesson in being exceptionally stubborn.
Really nice work. Always enjoy your videos and learn something new. Thank You.
Thanks, Glad to hear it!
Beautiful, great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work as ever there must be some secret patience powders in The Canadian water
Just a lot of snow - though it's been mild lately.
The grills look incredible
Thanks
Amazing craftsmanship! Gonna be an amazing 122 for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I've not had a Volvo for a few years now but I would drive HOURS to get to a meet and see this car in person.
I'm looking forward to driving it that's for sure.
Nicest looking grills I've ever seen!
Thanks!
You're a trooper.
Thanks
I love how the grills came out. Now there is a problem -> I want a pair of those to my 1963 Amazon station wagon. :D Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks...sorry I can't make you a set.
Well done! Keep up the crazy good work!
Thanks!
Not nice work, more like magnificent!
Enjoyed every minute, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Simply brilliant! 😮
Thank you! Cheers!
It looks absolutely amazing ! A huge 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Been a while. Those turned out awesome!!
Sorry about that - I'll try to get back on my regular schedule.
@@ThrottleStopGarage No worries man, love watching your stuff whenever it pops up!
Always fun and educational! I've always found polishing to be difficult (It took me longer to polish the clear coat on my carbon fiber/live edge table than it did to make the wooden pieces).
Finding the right process is hard. Then again, if I just wanted it to shine, you can polish earlier and not worry about a few scratches.
Awesome work! Those look amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to see you back and yes your right absolutely right it takes time lot's of Time and patience. Australia
The "little jobs" that turn out to be not that little. I always say craftsmanship is the gift you give yourself. If I'm the only one that smiles every time I see the finished car, it was worth it.
Absurdly fantastic job really nice 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much!
Dang, it is a thing of beauty! Congrats 🥃
Yup - I'm still grinning at how it all turned out.
Beautiful work sir.
Thank you kindly
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (the bugs will be blinded by the shine and reflection and won't even realize they been hit 😂) I was worried about you since you've been missing for so long. Now we know why - and it was totally worth it 👍👍😎👍👍 Keep after it!
Sorry for the absence. I was quite sick for almost a month just after Christmas and the rest took the time that it took. It's going to be a few weeks until I complete the next project that is hanging up the project. There are quite a few little projects to come.
@@ThrottleStopGarage - No apology needed - it was totally worth the wait. Being ill is never fun. Glad you’re feeling like your self again. One of the things I am always reminded and appreciate from watching you work is how to be MORE patient. Quality is not a race. Enjoy the challenge and never compromise your integrity. And thank you for honestly showing us this in every episode (at the same time not torture us, as you say, with the actual time it takes 😉)
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
This man is a craftsman at another level ..thank you sir
Wow, thanks
Amazing results Looks stunning. You can pat yourself on the shoulder and poor yourself a celebratory beverage. 💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks...now on to the next project.
Glad to see you back at it.
It's nice to wrap this part of the project up.
Fucking spectacular, man. Your "OCD 121" is going to be the best in the world, hands down. My 121 is cowering in a corner, afraid to show its aging face after seeing this.
Thanks. I'm chuckling at the thought of your car cowering. They're all beautiful in their own way.
Amazing result. Wow
Thank you! 😊
Hey Bud, great video as usual! I did say it months (or even years?) ago but i feel the need to say it again:
I love your channel! I didnt know that this car even exists before i found out about you and honestly, i dont really like the look of the car, but what i like is cars (and the technic and culture) behind it. Even if somebody would make a project about the "uglyiest" car on earth, i would like it because he is doing something!
The love, money, time and nerves you invest and show in this project are stunning!
I cant wait for the next video!
And to your worries that something could happend to the grill (i.e. a car crash), that is only the case you ever get to finish the project🤣
Keep it up und tell us if you need something we could help with!
Thanks, much appreciated. The make of a car is not important to me either. It's the community you find and the interesting projects that keep me at it.
Those are amazing.
Thanks!
you sound like AvE. Great work!
Two Canucks trying to bring a bit of levity to UA-cam.
I made a Kustom stainless steel radiator cover for my GMC SUBURBAN. It came out better than I thought it would looked store bought. The one's they sold were chrome plated. I didn't want chrome plated because it pits after after a while being under the hood. I like how you sand and buff the stainless out to make it look like chrome.
A friend of mine redone all his stainless trim in his 1959 impala sanded and buffed all his trim to look brand new on a freshly painted car. That was my first time ever seen it done. Takes plenty of time to not bend anything in the buffer.
There were a few moments when buffing . You have to concentrate and make sure you don't mangle the part.
Utterly amazing work
Thank you! Cheers!
Oh, but I admire your patience...that grill is just smashing.
Has it been 2 years since you made those panels...man I hope I live long enough to see this one to completion.
Thanks for sharing!!
That makes two of us. The pandemic has slowed the project down a lot.
Re the surface of your beautiful polished SS grills, you might look into a clear protectant (not a paint) called Nyalic. I'm not 100% sure if this is the right use case, but I've certainly used it with great luck (against air contaminants & long term corrosion) on raw metal surfaces - from aluminum to steel & electrocoated surfaces. It's often used on metals in marine environments.
Looking it up now - that's a great idea. I have to passivate the part yet, no need to show that process.
Looking forward to see this car featured in sema and jay leno
Not sure Jay will care - but people that work with him might like it. California is a long way from Alberta, but I hope to take the car on a little tour when it's done.
Really nice. Looks better than OEM.
Thanks - I really can't wait to get on to the point where I can look at these things on the car for real.
number 1
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
I wish i was you. Thanks for sharing.👍
Any time!
madness. in a good way, obviously.
I like to think so.
If you use solar flux type b on the back of the stainless, you won't need a purge block.
I couldn't get it in small quantities! I'm going to have to order some.
@Throttle Stop Garage I usually get small quantities on ebay. They sell pouches of a few ounces.
@@jasonhughes1156 Ordered - thanks for the tip.
your grill looks great - I couldn't find what thickness your stainless was - you have inspired me to try thanks
The bars are 18 gauge and the surround is 20 gauge. It wasn't easy, but it was fun.
💯
top job.
Thanks
Make sure you paint either the carbon fiber or the aluminum anywhere the touch. Painting both would be better and painting a bit more than just the footprint where they touch. Galvanically they do not do well together.
Yes, it is all getting painted and the epoxies isolate the fasteners from the carbon. I hope it all works out.
I can't Tig quickly due to my poor hands, so I often get too hot, using a pulse setting really helps and lay wire it.
I should have switched the pulse on for sure.
nice wok
Thanks
👍
Thanks
I found it funny too. Lol
Thanks.
3D printing would have been a good candidate for the tool and die
I wish I had tried that...now I've got to store the dies!
Great job!!
You have inspired me to make a number of parts for my Austin Healey.
I’m just North of Toronto I hope I can ask where in Canada are you?
I'm glad the video helped. I'm in Alberta.
I would never drive that car near other cars.
I just hope to drive it period!
ROME WASENT BUILT IN A DAY EITHER 😂
Ha, ha...we used to use that saying when I worked construction. My standard response what that I was not the foreman on that job. My boss loved my sense of humour.
If you ever plan on making P1800 parts, i'll be first in line.
Thanks, 1800's have pretty decent parts support these days.
@@ThrottleStopGarage True, but not much for carbon fiber.
I didn't know, that you could polish stainless steel to such an amazing shine.
I bet, that if you can polish a Tesla Cybertruck to that shine, a video about that would immediately go viral and get hundreds of millions of views and likes, earning you more than enough money to pay for the car several times over. 😄
But then I'd have a polished cybertruck! Stainless takes a wonderful shine and it stays that way.
Project Binky has been MIA for 6+ months? And you're worried about 3 months!
I worry about 3 weeks normally. I'm always working, that never stops.
Grill done what’s next Sir. 1 month later
I'm working on hinges for the trunk/hood and at this point...they're winning the battle. It's been weeks. Hope to be done this week.
@@ThrottleStopGarage do a video of your thinking and challenge on the hinges. It’s content and builds the algorithm.
@Michael Evans Spring is just around the corner. We'll see if I can get back on track with video production. I normally show the thought process, but my philosophy is to get content out when it's got some value, not just because the algorithm needs it. I'll never hit 100K subs and it doesn't bother me.
excelent work!
Thank you.
