The hands off mode is only available on highways which have been identified to be compatible. You can see the compatible highways highlighted in green if you go to the map, select 'suggestions' and then the 'availability'. Here in SK, almost all of the major highways don't support it (yet) and the availability hasn't changed in the 10 months I have owned my 2024 X5. You would think #1 highway would be compatible, but it's currently not.
thanks for the guide. I can’t get it to pop up in my 2024 X5M with ultimate package and assistant driving pro package.. so far I tried in the DVP, 404, and 400. Guess I’ll have to continue troubleshooting
The system will chirp at you in progressively more annoying ways, culminating in it turning on the hazards and braking in waves until the car comes to a stop.
So on the new X5 with driving assistance you get adaptive cruise control? Or do you need driving assistant pro package? BMW don’t make this clear. The previous x5 had it as standard. You could see the buttons on the wheel
Very informative video! I'm planning on ordering the 2024 5 series when it's available. One question, are these features controled by subscription services or are they actually considered paid for in the 75k+ purchase price?
Iv'e got mine couple weeks ago. It's a built-in optional feature and no subscription however BMW said it will be permanently disabled 8 year later. I don't know why but this feature is awesome and feel like I am riding a jet coaster! I was interested in a Tesla auto pilot but not yet ready for full EV so this i8 drive DA Pro feature changed my life.
@@tigeraki555 Thanks for the feedback! Based on many of the reviews I’ve read, I don’t think Tesla’s system is unique anymore in its sophistication. Mainstream manufacturers like BMW have closed the gap. You’ve made a really good decision, imho. ☺️
@DenverCoutu fingers crossed this Highway Assistant becomes available to more BMW models! Does the system keep the vehicle confidently centered in its lane even on sharper curves on the freeways?
it was pretty confidently staying in the lanes. BMW will work this tech onto lower models over the next couple of years. new tech also come first on the high end cars then works it was down over time.
nice video and presentation. i ordered an i4 about a month ago and just got into production. i ordered it with the active driving assist pro. would the pro allow me hands free driving? i believe the i4 has the idrive 8?
For Canada, the i4 does not have the highway assistant so it cannot be hands free up to 130km. It should have the traffic jam assistant and be hands free up to 60km
I have a 2023 BMW 430 with driving assistance package professional, The totally hands-free portion of my system imworks only up to 40 mph. Will there be any over the air update that would enable my system to go up to 85 miles per hour? It would appear all the equipment necessary is already on my car. It's just simply limited by software to 40 mph..
@@DenverBMW And, umm, how do you know which highways BMW has mapped? I''ve yet to see this hand-free under 40 stop and go maybe driver assist hand-free ever engage in over 2,500 miles.
I just bought the ix50 and highway assist is VERY quirky. Works on some roads, not others. Constantly asking me to put my hands back on steering wheel which kinda defeats the whole purpose of hands free and tough to trust the system when there are cars all over the place zooming in and out of lanes. Not working all that great for me.
Having driven 2023 Teslas and owning a 2024 440, idrive8 and BMW's FSD is where Tesla was in 2014-2015. The 440 that I have is at best quiry and very rudimentary at best. the 440s only allow "hands free" under very limited conditions, and a max of 45 mph is one of them. Not bad for $1,700 US. The 3d view and backup assistant are pretty cool through
Hi! do you know why always the SUVs get the good drivers assist technology. In Australia we have the driving assistant professional package which I have on my 2020 330e, so thats ACC with steering assistant but it doesn't have the lane change assistant or enhanced hands free driving. However a little while ago it was announced that all X5, X6 and X7 models can use the lane change assistant with their driving assistant pro, mean while every other model that was physically capable of the upgrade are not receiving it. Even on my 2023 330e LCI that I will be receiving in a few weeks won't have the function only the regular driving assistant professional, do you know why this is the case?
Please make sure to watch the whole video. I made note for all requirements needed. If you have then it may be the road you are driving on is not mapped for the feature.
@@PedroOjeda the other system is not hands free. You are supposed to have your hands on the wheel. It checks to see if your hands is on the wheel every 15 seconds.
@@PedroOjeda And it only applies to certain 2024 models. Make sure you ask before you buy! My 72k USD 440 has a version of this that is not useable and im my opinion, not safe to use.
Very cool. A few years ago I used the drivers assist technology in the 5-series in Europe on highways over the course of 3 weeks. It worked quite well but I had to touch the wheel about every 15 seconds. One thing I noticed in this video is that when he activated the turn signal it immediately changed lanes and it scared him because it basically went into the red car's blind spot. I don't change lanes when there's a car in the next lane over because they might change lanes at the same time and then you have a possible accident. I think the driver's assistance should read two lanes over to alleviate that risk.
@@DenverBMW If another driver makes a mistake then you have nowhere to go. Thanks for the video. I wanted to buy Porsche Cayenne but porsche don't have these sort of advance features so now leaning towards new X5 50e
The person in the red car was being annoying, I hate when other drivers buzz around me like flies around a pile of you know what. He should have kept on going or stayed well behind, not just pulled up next to and hovered. So many people do this dangerous stuff everyday
