I found the move immediately even though mato said not to pause. all I had to do was think "what move makes absolutely no sense to me but is really aggressive?" and I saw it. highlight of my day.
"We have reached a critical position in the game..white to play killa move...and please don't pause, its very hard to find that move" :D :D You rock Mato
The best thing about him is that he didnt settle for the good move, he was always looking for the brilliant one, and is that condition what make his play so admirable!
Jean Reno That's just it, almost every one of Tal's recorded games has a brilliant, inspiring combination. Today a lot of chess has to do with studying theory. While that's important, I'm of the opinion that studying openings into the 17th move (!) takes away from the spirit of the game. Tal embodied the spirit of chess like no other.
The problem is people weren't making the best moves against his sacrifices. Chess masters like Paul Keres, who was extremely precise, tended to always beat Tal who was too aggressive.
At the people saying they found the killer move in two seconds or with their eyes closed. You would have NO idea what to do next. You only guessed (correctly) what the move was and that's only because Mato said there is a killer move. Even then, you would still have no idea how to continue the attack
Well, Mato said guess the killer move. So it had to be a sacrifice. I only saw two possible sacrifices, this being the "more logical" one. The deduction is obvious but only when asked to find a sacrifice. Nobody here would find this move in a normal game. I paused the game myself, thought about the move in question, and had no idea how to make any kind of attack out of it. Should have known it would involve like three sacrifices, not one. I think the genius is not just finding some magical move. It's actually playing out the sequence in your head. Who would even think to do that sacrifice and not just go "Skip" in their head at the first move in the sequence? To think about it as an actual possibility and think it through to its conclusion? And on top of that, planning for the sacrifice and placing the key pieces into their positions so he can actually go for the kill. Such as the rook. This sacrifice was many moves in the making prior to the knight move.
@@briankarcher8338 That's just like you said it was. Tal saw not just the victim but the whole combination. Kasparov once said: "Tal did not justify the combinations, Tal saw it!"
Couldn't agree more my friend! You can only imagine the pressure sitting in the opposite chair, where every move has hidden danger. Only the very best could withstand that sort of mental pressure. A wonderful player, and a delight to watch a man who loved chess for the joy of playing.
Hi Mato! I wanted you to know that I started playing chess three years ago, because my beloved partner plays, and he immediately introduced me to your channel, and the Tal vs. Fischer "Absolutely Fantastic Chess Game". I was totally mesmerized, and also really enjoyed your very instructive and entertaining narration. I have been watching your Tal videos ever since, and am understanding his thinking a bit more all the time. Tal's play is fascinating, creative, aggressive, and often brilliant. And your narration of his play is rich with enthusiasm and vitality. This makes your Tal videos especially compelling. Please make more Tal videos Mato! :)
Tal is so beloved for whoever watch his games and know his personality. His games are so exciting like very hot football game. He is very creative genius with broad imagination. He doesn't stay in his room tons of hours to study, but naturally artistic. He had the vitality and craziness of youth all his life despite his sickness. He is adorable character, modest and has magic smile. He is a descendant of very well-educated family and he himself had very high IQ. I never seen more enjoyable games more than Tal and Alekhine. Absolutely we adore him, despite we did not live with him. We see his spirit hovering over us in each game!
Mato I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the videos!! They are amazing, you explain everything brilliantly and you are a brilliant commentator. Thanks so much.
Tal would lose against Carlsen but not because of opening theory, but because Carsen choses openings, like Giuoco Piano, that already when Tal played suited a tactical player badly. It isn't opening theory that has advanced and made players like Tal "obsolete", its middle/endgame theory (Middlegame is where Tal won his games). Fisher Random doesn't solve this, because that theory still applies in Fisher Random and Tal would still get crushed.
Absolutely amazing. I LOVE Tal's sense of piece value (or lack there of :). He instinctively knew how to use pieces to rip apart an opponent's defenses.
To be unknown in the match against Tal is good hehehe ..But against Polugaevsky it was pretty hard to win with his famous unsound sacrifices ...All in all Misha was a genius but for me Bobby was and still is best chess player ever ... Bobby was also a great sportsman and gentleman ....this is confirmed at Curacao tournament 1962 when he visited sick Tal at hospital and played few games with him while his Soviet colleagues did not care much for Tal ...This gesture touched Tal deeply ...
Evelyn Cecilia yes what about them? They are brilliant chess players and perhaps greater in stature as chess player than any other player but they do not have the style of Tal in playing chess which make him different from the rest. Imagine he even defeated Fischer in many of their games with moves which is like chess tricks or magic.
@@karloabutay1963 Bobby Fischer came to hate how chess evolved into memorizing theory, etc. He wanted badly to transition competitively chess to focus more on creativity and 'thinking on your feet'.
that was the best game i ever saw in my life. Thank you for that. Haven't played chess for 10 years and now i want to play because of you. Pozdrav iz Hrvatske.
Brilliant game! Your videos are a perfect length to enjoy - they have just enough information without the waffle in other chess videos. You have made me a subscriber!
Yea I thought that as well, but the thing with Tal's sacrifices is that most of the time you are force to take it. Either its check and only option is to take or he has crazy position afterwards if you don't.
Mato I left playing chess 8 years ago, by fortune I watched your videos of Mikhail Tal, and now I've started playing chess again. I really enjoy watching the magic chess from the Riga's Magician. Please continue doing videos, are very instructive. Greetings from Spain.
immediatly after Mato saying please do not pause the video, i did it, found the move, in quite a bit of time, studying Tal's games this move is to be expected, followed by a mad attack, absolutely beautiful game, ty Mato !

I've been able to get the 'critical moves' correct on so many videos, I just don't know the logic behind it! Great videos Mato. You are now my unofficial Chess coach thanks to your brilliant videos.
This is so amazing, there are so manny forcing or semi forcing moves that is understandable that the move can be found, but most people (ME INCLUDED!!!) simply dosen't look for them, your videos are amazing!, i started subscribing yesterday!
Hi Mato, I have the impression that Tal, more than any other chess player, makes you crazy, is it so?? Tal, for me, is pure poetry, his moves are like music.. you have the impression that his pieces dance on the chessboard, having fun… just an artist
Your Sicilian defense videos are top shelf, also love the fried liver attack analysis. Please keep it up, you should be getting paid by rich parents, but instead you are teaching us, we appreciate it.
I have seen this game before but it remains an awesome, awesome display of triumphant chess proficiency...if such a thing exists. Wonderful. Thanks Mato.
One thing is finding a move when Mato tells you to... another thing is the style of play in the entire game... took me 20 minutes to catch my breath... ;O)
ahahahahaha first time i here Mato saying with is sweat voice: "please don't pause...because this is extremely difficult to find...." :O I think we have the answer to the question in the title ;P Tal is actually both lmao!!! in one word, GENIUS

I found the move immediately even though mato said not to pause. all I had to do was think "what move makes absolutely no sense to me but is really aggressive?" and I saw it. highlight of my day.
Interesting...
Same here. Although I didn't pause, I knew the next move would be the one that would make no sense to me.
tal always sacrifices the knight xD
That's how I find the killer moves in videos about Tal.
same here
The other day my new girlfriend said to me: thank you for this wonderful evening. I faked Mato's voice and replied: Mmmm... Is it.. really for free?
LOL. You are funny. Thank you for your comment.
MatoJelic mato your videos are amazing could you make a series of A alekhine games please??
and your girlfriend would say (in Mato accent) : Bye for now !
aryan galaxy Alekhine Playlist is on the menu in 2015. There will be at least 30 of his games
you are the best thank you

He is like the Mike Tyson of chess, always seeking a knockout in the first round.
Tal actually typically uses standard openings by the book. Doesn't usually do anything weird or crazy until the beginning of the mid game.
People will probably disagree with me, but I think Tal was the greatest ever.
The best thing about him is that he didnt settle for the good move, he was always looking for the brilliant one, and is that condition what make his play so admirable!

What a wonderful game, and nicely explained. Tal really controlled the flow of the game and was inside his opponents head!
I'm starting to think Tal is the most brilliant player ever, because his moves are unpredictable yet strong.

Tal continues to facinate. Even strong players of today can appreciate his ferocity. Thanks for good analogy of excellent Tal example game.
An uncastled King against Tal, usually not the best approach.
Randy Bailin but I think the castled one is worse :)
neither is castled XD
the king was the only thing he could see. he had an affinity for opponent king
