I had sent away for tickets for the 1980 81 tour of America and then that fateful day. I started listening to the Mighty ZEPPELIN in 75 and still listen every day. LED ZEPPELIN THE GOAT!!!
I was there. I was 16 years old and went to Knebworth for 4 days with 3 mates. We slept in a shop doorway in Stevenage on the first night and a bus shelter on the second night, and in a field the night after the gig. I remember it like it was yesterday, I kept the ticket, the programme and the T-shirt for about 20 years afterwards but after several house moves i now can't find any of it (gutted). Still a mad Zeppelin fan at age 52. This brings back so many amazing memories. Love it.
I was 16. This was the first concert by a major artist that I had been to. I was blown away. My love for Led Zeppelin has never waned. I met Robert Plant briefly in the 1990's. I was impacted by his humility and self awareness. So unusual for a rock star of his standing.

I was there too. I was 18 and had just finished A levels. We came across from Bristol. I remember being in the field next to the gig field where everybody was playing zep and lighting camp fires by their cars ,,, and getting in at about 4am when some kids broke the fence down. It was a long day, getting more cramped as the field filled. Had to pee in cider bottles because we couldn't get to the toilets. I remember Todd Rundgren and Chaz and Dave :-). I went on to teach myself to play the guitar, eventually I ended up enjoying a semi professional career as a lead guitarist for the best part of 20 years, mainly playing pubs and clubs, biggest audience was opposite the Old Red Lion in Stevenage Old Town to about 10,000. The music and the rapport with the Crowds are the drugs.... okay, much mention is made of drug and alcohol use by the Band members but I just can't see any point in dissecting every last note that Jimmy played, I mean, I defy anyone to stand on a stage in front of well in excess of a quarter of a million people and pull off such outstanding performances such as this. Led Zeppelin were the best thing to ever happen to the World of Rock Music, they raised the bar to a level that has yet to be matched (indeed they more than proved they were unbeatable in 2007, with Jason channelling his Dad's talent, passion and fury beautifully and way,way beyond any expectations) and I know that all Musicians on this thread will agree with this. The very fact that they are still the subject of so much discussion proves just what a phenomenal contribution they made. They weren't just a Band, they created a Philosophy to live by! On a personal level, if I hadn't discovered Led Zeppelin then I wouldn't be blissfully married today, now there's a perfect indication as to the power of Music and how it can enrich your life!
Love your story man! Best band ever! got me into guitar as well and i can play almost all their songs and live versions. JPJ showcased that shit alembic bass, that fucking thing had no balls, compare it's sound to the MSG shows on the original SONG REMAINS dvd. Great talent, but that late 80's bass he played was a 5 string joke. He sounded like TARZAN on the 4 string fender, like JANE on the alembic.

By 1980, after knebworth, the band was starting to get it back together, somewhat. Zep was the greatest rock band in my lifetime, but they did not age well - what i mean is, they did not take care of themselves physically. Had Bonham not passed, I believe we would have seen much like these knebworth shows except sharper. The LZ of the 60's to mid 70's we'll never see/hear anything like it again, not even the "REAL" Zeppelin could sound like the original 1968 outfit. Even on the off/sloppy nights, like the above show, there's not too many acts that can touch THEE Led Zeppelin. Peace.
I'm surprised he can even hold that guitar up. Looks like it weighs more than him. Plant sounds spoiled and tired on this. Regardless, they did, do, and always will ROCK.
thnx for post.idk why the august 4th gig is rare but it seem's to be - Trampled Under Foot is so damn good here - you just gotta wait for it but it's worth it.
I love how this video starts with the British audience singing along to "Tuesday's Gone" from Skynyrd. Kinda cool and erie too because this concert at the time was held almost two years after Ronnie, Steve Gaines and his backup singing sister Cassie and roadie manager Dean Kilpatrick sadly died at the height of their success in the plane crash.
Bonham is the biggest influence for me, also. I first saw his drum solo in the concert film The Song Remains The Same when i was 6 years old. I knew immediately that i wanted to be a drummer. 13 years later, at 19 years old, I'm still a drummer and I still cite John Bonham as my main influence.
ZEP started with Rock'nroll, i was there, blistering hot day, best ever gig I have ever seen or shall. 3 hr 45 mins. Jimmy should have worn the dragon suit.
Sorry Will, but they opened up with TSRTS. Rock and Roll was the first encore. I seem to remember that Nicky Horne (DJ on the day) played 'Rock and Roll' as part of the canned music during the day.
To me hands down, this should have been remastered on the 2004 DVD. I was waiting for this version to be officially put out there, but it didn't happen.
@@Zeppelinlv2007 It wasn't for the desire. As the story goes, the amp that Jimmy plugged the B-Bender into wasn't mic'd properly resulting it the multi-track of the guitar being unsalvagable. When they did the DVD, everything was remastered from the multi-tracks. There isn't a sinister reason, just that they couldn't do a proper mastering of the track with the missing guitar track. At least we have the 2-channel stereo mix that *has* the guitar.
@@ayhamshaheed7740 i actually really like the way the guitar collage sounds in ten years gone here with everything Jimmy Page and JPJ are doing it’s truly fascinating and amazing
at least a best of earls court similar to what they did on the 03 DVD. My fave show overall is 5.18. I'm sure they have a SB multi track of all the nights and as we know the video of the 24th and 25th
Plant has said on many occasions that this was a s--- gig for him. He was very nervous after 2 years away from live concerts. That said, he admits that Achilles on the 4th is one of their best ever. That's why that one made the cut for the DVD. These songs were not deemed good enough for the DVD.
The show the following week was better but this one is still good. I did miss Nobody's Fault But Mine. The following week they played it and just before Over The Hills And Far Away, my favorite part of the whole concert. God bless Robert for getting back on that horse because I think he learned and improved from this show. He, Jimmy and everyone else seemed more awake and into it and it's my favorite UA-cam concert to watch. Good on you boys :)
Looking at this again, it looks like Jimmy was having a problem w/it too. In fact, they all looked as if they were struggling a bit. I love the song anyway so who cares, right?!
@@kimberlywalker3970 no the following show was awful, so bad in fact you can hear fans chanting “jimmy sucks” and “Jimmy’s a drunk”. Page was so wasted he could barely play Achilles that night
Yeah, I could tell especially on August 4th. I saw both the 4th and 11th shows and the 11th is a vast improvement from the 4th, especially the first thirty minutes. Yeah, not performing for two years is going to have an effect on your overall performance but. I stand by what I said. It's okay if Robert disagrees w/me. I didn't think the Earl's Court Performance was all that good. At least I had fun watching the 11th. I'm sure they had better concerts than and they've probably had ones that were worse. Either way it's a matter of opinion.
just spent the last three weeks listening to LedZep month on SiriusXM and felt no real urge to switch away from the channel the whole time (well, The Football Show on ch 157 in the morning anyway...). And during that time the one thought was that Zeppelin were a progressive rock band just like ELP or Yes or King Crimson. Shocker, eh? Hard, heavy, blues-based - can confirm. But consider all the convoluted melodies and tones and lyrics, that they had acoustic moments, that no two Zep songs sound the same. I could add more, but I'd be writing here quite a while. so, Discuss...
Poor you....at least you missed the 11th. This is not great, they were long past it. I saw them 1975 Earls Court and they still had it, if in retrospect one can see they were better from roughly 1969 - 1973.
I was there and the guitar sound on this is much better than we got halfway up the hill. All the distortion is intact on this, it sounded too clean on the day. I don't know if they were maybe mixing the amp sound with a DI signal and we were getting too much of that. Some of his, er, less precise bits sounded a bit sloppy - not a criticism, still a great night.
What on earth did people expect? Wait until you get to Achillies Last Stand. I went to both weekends and was as trashed as everyone else, but the bands BRILLIANCE shone through!
I remember those 2 gig 4-11 august 1979 by radio(no MTV) Wow Zep on the road and 20 august they release 'in through the out door' my first reaction 'why they dress new wave'
If a tribute played that set they would be told to get off the stage
8 років тому+3
Monsters on stage....they still held presence and aura and mystery....those first few years of amazing creativity and peak talent set them up for the decade, for life....they were still very good here but their magic in a bottle had gone...age, time, fame and 8 years at the top of the mountain tends to do that
A tribute couldn't touch the real deal.Trust me I've seen both.Tribute bands, cover bands sound like shit. Not even a tenth as good.So unless you have seen both, shut your fucking mouth.
Hi there David, thanks a lot for posting this show, and in the best quality I've seen yet! Would you please care to state the source for this??? Thanks in advance.

Who needs drugs to get high when you can just listen to Zeppelin. Their music is very euphoric.

To me hands down, this should have been remastered on the 2004 DVD. I was waiting for this version to be officially put out there, but it didn't happen.
Frank Hernandez it sounded really nice other than the bits with whammy on them. If page had just not used whammy It would’ve sounded excellent
Llama Lulu true. I love it as well, but I didn’t rly like the use of the filter-y sound just before the main guitar theme
Wow this is good....Bonham is a God......................
Indeed! John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham is the greatest rock drummer ever!

who the fuck don't like that ?!
Me. They declined throughout the late 70's, no doubt about it.
Georgians don't notice?
Just classic. Thanks for sharing ;)
at 12:56 when Plant stopped singing and the crowd sang the look on his face is priceless
fantastic concert absolutely love these rock gods
would it kill them to put out CD's of the Earls Court and Knebworth shows...?
if I remember correct Robert hits a few bum notes (I forgot where)
at least a best of earls court similar to what they did on the 03 DVD. My fave show overall is 5.18. I'm sure they have a SB multi track of all the nights and as we know the video of the 24th and 25th
Best sound quality of this concert.
I could add more, but I'd be writing here quite a while. so, Discuss...
i was there
paul doherty god i so much wish I was Paul bet it was awesome
Poor you....at least you missed the 11th. This is not great, they were long past it. I saw them 1975 Earls Court and they still had it, if in retrospect one can see they were better from roughly 1969 - 1973.
Towards the end Jonesy kept it all together. All four of them so,so special.

Really, really thanks indeed! Muchísimas gracias :)
Jimmy played a different Guitar for the Aug 11 Knebworth show for misty mountain
hop
38 years ago today...I was there :))))
wish i could hear some thundering bass on some tracks especially black dog -- it's like page is all alone there.
Bass was not functioning properly during first 3/4 songs due to technical problems
@TJ Spot on!
@@johnsonapioras8697 you mean JPJ's Alembic bass... SUCKED.
40 years gone. Then as it was, then again it shall be.
I went to both weekends, I was as much messed up as everyone else but come on, this band are still the greatest ever, whatever their faults.....
Bonham was really great !!
The best ever.
Super verlos otra vez después de 38 años en vivo
IN CONCERT AND BEYOND "LED-ZEPPELIN"!!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Real Live Oldies...And Goodies !...
Led Zeppelin 💚💜💙☮👸
Robert Plant, particularly from 11:57 to 12:17, is all-universe. It still ignites me out of my mind. Love it.
Yeah, that scream is pretty amazing!
Все Мастера, все с большой буквы. Как по мне - группа №1 в мире ! ! !
This version of Black Dog made my heart freekin stop as Plant sticks those hips...holy shit his wife got lucky that night damn!!
😉
If a tribute played that set they would be told to get off the stage
Monsters on stage....they still held presence and aura and mystery....those first few years of amazing creativity and peak talent set them up for the decade, for life....they were still very good here but their magic in a bottle had gone...age, time, fame and 8 years at the top of the mountain tends to do that
George Grubetic I agree George - the aura was there but the essence had gone
James Joyce that is true.
A tribute couldn't touch the real deal.Trust me I've seen both.Tribute bands, cover bands sound like shit. Not even a tenth as good.So unless you have seen both, shut your fucking mouth.
Went to this 1st one of 2 when just 19. Motorcycled up from devon.
Listen man it should be obvious page is giving all he can and that is the point this is freaking far out livin I mean this is cool
the coolest thing in the world
Jimmy muthafuckin Page
WOW. Page's solo on Stairway to Heaven was so much better at this show than it was 1 week later.
Why has this concert never been officially released?? You would think they would want to give it to their fans.
at 10:30 the band was playing 'Out on the tiles' but robert started singing 'Black Dog' 😂😂 the way they changed was awesome!!
It’s the litte/big things that make Led Zeppelin amazing
Hi there David, thanks a lot for posting this show, and in the best quality I've seen yet! Would you please care to state the source for this??? Thanks in advance.
Cool and thanks! My friend from high-school had a bootleg copy that sounded like shit but I still enjoyed it!
FUCKING BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!
on voit jimmy grimacer sous heroine , Jimmy rate des solos , c'est le déclin mais y a des moments ou jimmy est vraimebt bon , sur stairway,.no quartier
best of best
This is Jonesy's time. Then come the cavalry . perfect.
There were two shows but so many different mixes from the shows
