Excellent Paul! You did this spontaneous piece proud. Several wonderful techniques demonstrated. Thanks so much for the kind shout out too!
Thanks Steve - always enjoy your channel!
The Bridge Works Beautifully…. A touch of realism…PERFECT!
Very kind - thanks!
The bridge was the perfect finish to a great spontaneous landscape. Thanks again, Paul.
Many thanks!
What fun! At one point looked like an underwater coral reef.
Great to hear - thanks!
The bridge just adds that finishing touch
Thanks so much!
This is great, especially with the addition of the bridge!
Glad you enjoyed it!
With, but add the look of a waterfall. So much fun! Thank you so much for sharing your marvelous talent.
Thank you very much!
That looked fun. Definitely, loved the bridge addition.
Glad you enjoyed it!
With the bridge!!! It’s genius idea ! … as long as you don’t ask me to walk on it 😱.
You encourage us to make a mess, exactly what’s forbidden for grown people.., thank you so much for that great experience!
Love that! - thanks!
The bridge is perfect! It looks like a floating forest with a path to a cave.
Great to hear - thanks!
It is lovely with or without the bridge. This style of painting allows the imagination to soar. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thank you so much 😀
Love this! Each painting tells a slightly different story. Both are beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Absolutely with the bridge. It gave it a completed feeling.
Thanks so much!
Lovely
Steve mind of watercolor is so immensely talented.
Looks like his brush is his wand.
Agree with that!
Yep... bridge adds unity to the composition I feel. Nice work Paul 👍
Thanks for listening
Lovely sky reminds me of Northern lights. I feel the bridge tied it together. Wonderful.
Great to hear - thanks!
Before you added the bridge I thought of a jungle, the light being a waterfall. The bridge makes the picture. Beautiful.
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful spontaneous landscape! Team bridge! 👍🏻
Go team Bridge!!!
So happy to added the bridge! Although it would be very scary walking across it! Off to try this now…thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
I like it with the bridge and even imagine a nice waterfall running below...thank you Paul!! amazing atmospheric work!
Glad you enjoyed it
These remind me of the beautiful flying islands in Avatar-gorgeous colours-thanks Paul.
Very welcome ... yes, see what you mean!
Danke für die wunderbare Anregung 🤗 und die Brücke passt perfekt 👍
Danke!
That was fun. I love both paintings but I think I like the one without a bit more :)
Thank you! Cheers!
The sky reminds me of the northern lights. Lovely! And very nice to call out Steve Mitchell & his Mind of Watercolor channel. I’m learning a lot from both of you! 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Looks brilliant. The bridge brings it all together, in my eyes😮
Many thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
as always it was amazing and perfect🌹thank you Paul
Thank you too!
Love the bridge! Beautiful painting.
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the bridge and thank you for resisting filling in the bottom corners with paint. It has an other worldly feel to it. I am afraid of heights and will not go across the bridge!
Thank you so much!
With the bridge gets my vote. It makes the picture seem more real... like a fantasy of a place that has inhabitants somewhere. Yours turned out beautiful. Mine was trash... but fun! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for voting! - have another go ... it took me 3 attempts!
Enjoyable experience watching your painting evolve!
One commenter called adding the bridge a "story waiting to be told." Indeed, the rope bridge could be telling my story, the tale of how I, a city kid, used to spend summers with my grandparents who lived in the Appalachian mountains in a narrow valley (or hollow/holler) between two high hills rising on either side of the road that ran up the hollow and the creek that ran down it. At times when an exceptionally heavy and long summer storm would happen, the rushing water carrying logs and such from higher up the hollow would cascade down the valley and take out the bridge, and we were all stuck on our side of the creek until the waters receded low enough for the bridge to be restored. It was exciting for the grandkids, but trying for our grandfather, I'm sure. Our grandparents were rather self-sufficient with gardening, chickens, and such, so we were never in any danger of starving. After university, I've traveled widely in the world, but my fondest memories are of the sweet times in that narrow valley doing things like wading in the creek catching crawdads until my feet looked pickled, and I'm a girl! Sorry to be long-winded again, but it had been some time since I remembered how exciting it was to sit on the porch and watch the creek rise until something came along and crashed into the bridge. Thanks for the memories!
Really interesting memories. Thank you for sharing!
I would read this book or watch this film. You have a gift for story-telling
i;m a newbie here. Addicted to tyler childers, lol. so looking forward to following Mr. Clark tho.
Lovely comment - thanks so much for sharing!
I love doing loose landscapes like this and have found that putting one thing in that is clearly identifiable, like the bridge, brings the whole thing together. I love the bridge.
Many thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
Good afternoon, dear Paul! These spontaneous paintings are a real challenge, they only look simple in interpretation on Master's hands (like yours). In reality it is not this simple, you have to define a good pre-plan before starting. And to have a great imagination, what is also an ability not for everyone 😊 great tutorial as always! Thank you. Greetings from Moldova, Lilia
Many thanks Lilia!
Lovely! The bridge is a delightful finishing touch. 😎🎉🥰
Thank you! 😊
I’m in love with your demonstrations….. You’ve re awakened my Love of Water color…. Thank You 🙏🏻
Wow, thank you!
I love the way the rope bridge "forces" the eye to see an embankment in the middle of the painting--without changing anything else. Very well done! I learn so much by watching--and painting along with--your videos.
Great to hear - thanks!
You certainly have a way to make Watercolor Wednesdays interesting !!! 😊 I also watch "MOW", Steve Mitchell, another great teacher!!! Ok, Sir Paul, I liked it best without the bridge!!! For me, this is a wonderful way to just play with watercolor... no plan... maybe to view my favorite colors! Thank you for sharing from an inspired California Gramma❤ God bless you!!!
Thank you! Cheers Ann
I love the spontaneity of this landscape . Watching the ink run and bloom was fascinating and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing so many techniques.
Really enjoy your spontaneous paintings. I felt like I was in a beautiful dreamlike valley, while I watched your brush work its magic. It is so beautiful. ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Definitely the bridge is IN. Love this effort Paul, so exciting to watch it unfolding. Thankyou once again😍😍😍
Glad you enjoyed it
Definitely with the bridge! It has an almost Japanese silk print, feel to it. ❤
Great to hear - Many thanks!
Definitely with the bridge, it looks lovely.
Thanks so much!
Love the bridge it finishes it off and makes it look like something you roamed across out in the Amazon!! Gorgeous
Thanks so much! 😊
Your T shirt looks like you just played ‘ Holi’ an Indian festival of colours. Keep up the good work!
Lol! - yes, good point!
You're a wonderful teacher and it's such a pleasurable experience watching your videos. You think of the whole experience for your students/audience, including stunning music to match. Thank you!
Very kind - many thanks!
Incredible how the painting slowly took shape literally from nothing. I like to imagine a huge waterfall in the background. Beautiful and you make it look so easy, as always. Super!
Thank you so much 😀
I also envisioned a waterfall! Will get to painting soon...we'll see if I have the nerve to add a waterfall!
Thank you, Paul! It’s so refreshing to just (as you say) relax and experiment!! It appears so freeing because it just evolves as you paint! I’m going to try this one soon!!
You are so welcome
Love the change in technique
Spontaneous, intuitive and fun
Glad you enjoyed it!
So beautiful. Love the bridge. Thank you
Thank you too
Paul, I love it with the bridge!! Bring on more of your abstract tutorials for inspiration.
Thanks, will do!
Can't wait to play with this one!
Have fun!
Beautiful!! Wish I had an imagination...The bridge is a perfect addition..pulled it all together..
Thank you! Cheers!
I do love your spontaneous paintings. This one definitely has an ethereal atmosphere. The bridge completes it. Love the colours. I will definitely have to try this and introduce it to my painting group. One artist has benefitted from the last spontaneous demonstration and think would like to see this one. Great imagination Paul, great tutorial too, as usual. 👍
Thank you so much 😀 - hope your group enjoys!
A beautiful result, thank you Paul ... very inspiring and yes with the bridge!
Glad you enjoyed it
That bridge was the perfect touch!!!
I've been practicing spontaneous painting like Steve does it's fun! And I finally got one I like LOL!
Just stunning Paul… the bridge lovely touch!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your spontaneous paintings. Thanks ❤
Glad you like them!
Just Brilliant ❤
And of course with the bridge it looks complete 😊
Thank you so much 😀
I see the Aurora Borealis in the background and I prefer the painting with the bridge. It’s a small detail that really works. Beautiful color choices and painting. Thank you.
Cool, thanks!
hello Paul I have been a fan of Steve's and yours for over 3 years , thank you I have learned a lot from you both . Iv only been painting 3 plus years.
Great to hear and happy to help!
I immediately thought of this as an underwater scene, perhaps a magical cave - then came the bridge. I love both. I think it must be such fun because you do what want and you choose the colours you like. A bit of light relief! Thanks very much, Paul. 🙃😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful painting! I love it without the bridge…its like looking up into the spaces between the trees from a distance. Always enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you so much 😀
Hello Paul! I love the bridge idea; an impressive way of describing you're in the rain forest. Thank you! as usual you nailed it.
Glad you enjoyed it
This is absolutely stunning. The skies remind me of the Northern lights. A great thing about abstract is being able to see what you want to see. Fantastic Paul. Thank you xx
Thanks so much!
Love the one without the bridge - a little voice in my head was screaming " you've got to know when to stop" !😂🤣
Lol!!! - good point!
Brilliant as always Paul I was picturing a waterfall the bridge was my favourite
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow!! I didn’t see it coming. I could not figure it out. Great Job, and a great artist 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
The bridge adds an element of suspense, as if I'm reading a novel. I want to know the story behind the bridge! Beautiful painting, Paul.
Thank you very much!
Lovin' the tee shirt!! lol
Great to hear - thanks!
This is really magical, a fabulous tutorial! I prefer it without the bridge, it sort of stops my eyes from wandering into the wildness. Better without anything man made as it’s too beautiful to spoil! 😌. Thank you for this and everything Paul. ☺️
Thank you so much!
Looking on your tutorials on my tv where I unfortunately can’t comment. However, there fantastic! Love the humorous, but still serious way of teaching watercolours. So nice that you add how to mix colours, perspective, ‘mixed media’, composing… etc. Thanks for all inspiration-earlier I was only painting in acrylics, now I love the living watercolours.
Kim from Sweden
Awesome, thank you Kim!
Definitely keep the bridges! I love it! Abstract has always terrified me but the more I watch you the braver I am becoming. I think I am what is referred to as a tight painter. I’m going to give it a go! Thank you!!! Blessings!!!
You can do it!
Fabulous painting! I think both versions are wonderful. But looking at the bridge turns my knees to jelly. 😂 love your spontaneous paintings, and this one is special for sure. Will def have a go! Thank you!
Thanks so much! 😊
Your spontaneous painting is beautiful. Loved your creativity with this one.
Thank you so much 😀
That is utterly Gorgeous, Paul. IMHO - the Bridge is a Beautiful finishing touch - it gives the painting even more depth, a feeling of balance AND a flavour of Japan.
I Love it! You are a genius!
Thank you for this Fabulous tutorial.
Love, Mel in Devon 🍰🌻
Thanks Mel from Devon!!!
It started looking more snd more as an underwater seascape, and once I saw it I couldn't unsee it😅 Even the birds became fish and the bridge the skeleton of a submerged ship. I've tried the spray bottle but need to seriously downsize. Yes your painting is amazing 😍
Thank you so much 😀
Wonderful, atmospheric view of a hidden, quiet place only disturbed by the brief sound of circling birds.
Love it. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it
I love this style of painting the bridges completes the painting.
Thanks so much!
Love this Paul..mmm..maybe without the bridge. Watched a podcast yesterday of Will-I-Am being interviewed and he said that as soon as you start to be concerned about what others think of your work, you stop being a creative person. This video today is truly in keeping with just being your best creative self. Thanks so much Paul.
My pleasure and thanks for the great comment!
Before the bridge, I felt I was under the sea! Love this!
Many thanks!
Thank you Paul and when I hear your "good morning, afternoon and evening to lovely lot" it's filled my day❤️. Really enjoyed the video and now it's time to start with some spare papers 😁. Also thank you very much for correction of the birds mistake, I'm also in that group 😬.
Glad you enjoyed it and the into - was worried folks where getting tired of it!
I love them both, but the addition of the bridge makes it feel more romantic somehow!
Great to hear - many thanks!
When I first saw this tutorial pop up, I honestly didn't think I'd be into it. I LOVE it! And definitely with the bridge! I will be trying this one soon.
Awesome! Thank you!
Loved the bridge addition. At first I was like wow where is this going and then out of the mess a beautiful landscape!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was so much fun! I love the little bridge but there’s lots of room for imagination in both versions. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Definitely with the bridge.
I was painting along with you and the result was totally different. But yes! I had a wonderful time.
Wonderful! Great to hear - thanks!
Very very very beautiful painting
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the bridge!
Great to hear - thanks!
That is really lovely Paul. It was absolutely fascinating to watch a beautiful coherent painting emerge from the washes.
Your book arrived from Amazon tonight, so now I'm going to switch off and bury my nose in your book for now.
Glad you enjoyed it
I like with. I personally think this is the best idea how to practice colour characteristics with more or less water as well as with acrylic ink. Your relaxing approach to teaching watercolour is really easy to memorize and utilize in my learning how to paint.
Great to hear thanks!
Gorgeous and magical. As a control freak this scare me! But, I will try!!
You can do it!
A stunning job Paul!! Love the bridge and the birds, you always Amazed me how your bring life to a sheet of paper.
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome painting , definitely a very beautiful scenery and that bridge looks so dangerous. 😊 Thank you for all the tips and tricks .
Many thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
I thoroughly loved watching this evolve and getting the feeling of the atmospheric foliage falling from the mountain sides. I do like the bridge it gives that extra depth. You make it look so easy, I’ll keep trying, but not yet archived a good painting. Easier said than done 👍🖼️ thanks Paul
So glad you enjoyed it ... and give it a go!
I was subscribed about a year ago when I did a couple of your tutorials, the seagulls and the snow scene with red telephone box at Bamburgh. I really enjoyed them but my painting went downhill and I gave up. Now I feel is the time to try again and re subscribed today and this tutorial dropped into my announcements. What a mad idea (in a really good way) as no one can say if you got it right or not so I will be having fun, and probably wasting a few sheets of paper but who cares😊. I have a lot of catching up to do on your excellent tutorials but I have the rust tractor prepped and ready to paint. No idea what it will turn out like but I will never know unless I get those brushes wet again.
With regard to the rope bridge. I think it works well with or without. With the rope bridge there is an implied context to the picture, before the rope bridge I saw the light area as a waterfall so it works both ways for me. Many thanks and glad to be back🙏
Thanks so much Graham - great comment!
Turned out nicely again! Definitely with the bridge. Thankyou! XXX
Many thanks!
It's turned out so beautiful.. Like the valleys in the movie Avatar 😊 lovely and to the left looks like a cave. like it without😊
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful! Bridge - yes! :)
Yes! Thank you!
This is such a mess in the best possible and beautiful way ❤ I loooved the bridge idea because it makes you think about the painting more
Great to hear - thanks!
Wow, this is exactly the kind of painting I want to get into and get lost in.
It's just superb!
At the 10:50 mark, it took on an aquatic feel. Like a beautiful coral garden. I love it! Bravo Paul.
Thank you! Cheers! ... ye I can see that!
