Ford DPF fluid, PAT fluid replacement

- Engine light was on on a 1.6 diesel focus. The code said MIL fluid low which is also known as PAT fluid. Bought some fluid and a filling kit from euro Car parts. Lots of them on eBay as well.

Did this procedure help/work for anybody??
I got the same car, had engine system failure come up and engine light in amber too, RAC checked it said it needs this fluid, were did you buy it from?

I had a liter put in at ford about 16 months ago at a cost of 350 quid. They had to diagnose the fault then put the fluid in and reset the engine malfunction light and upgrade the old engine management software to the latest version. So my question is can you just top this up your self when it's getting low but hasn't caused any faults to show up. Or will topping it up cause any issues.
You can do yourself. Nothing will hapened.
I topped a focus up today, it was showing engine malfunction on the display, I put a litre in and cleared the codes and fault was gone, £350 sounds a rip off

Hi, what is the process of resetting the codes after you have done this? Fuel cap and ignition key system.
alwillkill I just used a code reader to clear the codes.

if no lights on dash to indicate dpf fluid needs refill. then you need forscan and modified elm327cable to reset dpf learned values. any stored codes can then be deleted reset. basic code reader wont reset values
Hi I've had mine filled two years ago then twice this year... Don't seem right as you said a litre does 70 k miles my mechanic said depends on how you drive it and round town or it injects to clean dpf?? Can you give me some advise as there's no leaks thanks in advance.
Stephen King I was just guessing when I said a litre. I thought a litre would fill it but I think the tank is bigger actually. It’s hard to see how big it is.
It’s about 2-3litres. It should need refilling every 30-40k.
The way it works is when you refill fuel, the car sees when you’ve open the fuel flap, takes a measurement of the current fuel level, takes a new measurement when you close the flap and works out the difference.
Then once it’s worked out how much fuel you’ve put in, it’ll inject a few ml of this fluid into the fuel tank.
What it does is basically the carbon and soot produced by the engine and caught by the dpf, when this fluid burns with the fuel it creates a soot that burns off at a lower temperature then just standalone fuel, making the regeneration process easier for the dpf.
It will work fine without the fluid, but you will have a fault message on the dash for the empty tank, so you do need the fluid topping up.
