What if a baby began to say words like “mama” at 9 months old then as time went by, she no longer spoke? What if said child is 2 years old now and doesn’t say any words but babbles and makes cooing sounds? But nothing verbally? Is this autism or a sign of interruption in language development?

I see autism regression in myself, I isolate myself a lot more than I used to, am becoming antisocial, having more sensory overloads, obsessing with things like crazy like when I was 12

Our child was on track in most areas during the first two years of life. She was even ahead in counting (or repeating me anyway), the repeating songs, etc. Could've been parroting but she stopped even doing that. She went from a vocabulary that was partially verbal and partially sign language...to only using a handful of signs and muttering a few words when in distress. This happened around 2 years old. It was sudden and gradual after that. Other than school not many people in our lives bother socializing with our child. Family is not child friendly I've discovered lol. Especially if the child is too "shy/inhibited". If she doesn't reply right away they feel it's a waste of time. Sadly public school was the same way. I still feel stuck. Her inappropriate habits create an extra difficult time socializing. (Rejected a lot in public).
The doctors never looked at her brain, blood, or anything physical at all until she had to see a psychiatrist at age 7 (for self harm). And all they did was a blood panel.
Doctors will hardly help us at the ER in one of the" best hospitals"in the country. They tell us she's too uncooperative. An autistic child just died in the UK because of this. It's terrifying.
I'm more motivated into looking into these problems, I appreciate it so much. I'm less severely autistic and it's been a massive struggle to fight how we have in the medical arena and to feel it's worth it to keep trying ...can be dismal.
She's regressed so many times it's always depressing. We've been pushed around in the schools so much and with doctors. She looks so "normal" (and pretty) so I think a lot of people don't feel sympathy and it's easier to just categorize her as one of the unsavories of society so there's little help. It's an attitude from most kind people of "well let her just languish". Too many times I feel like I'm the only one trying.
Just attended an IEP conference and it's opened my eyes to the if it's not working after x time then revise. She's had the same goals for years and more regression than progress.
I'm overwhelmed but not giving up yet.

My daughter is 5 and after doing some new research on apraxia and communication disorder, I feel like over the last few years there’s been a lot I/we’ve been told not to do. Like the why questions. It’s been more so just getting her to say a work. I’m so glad I am not standing at just the basic words because it’s not enough. She’s very vocal and now requesting along side her continuous singing. I know she has it in her but struggling to put too much together. I’m London, UK

My son started speaking at 3.5 and got diagnosed with Asperger (mild to moderate Autism) at 6. He did not show typical signs and we though his speech delay was caused by the middle-ear problems, because the first assessment with a child psychologist came as 'nothing to worry about'. When he started speaking he developed really fast, but then covid came and being stuck at home and no school (online only) did not help. So this winter I decided to go back to speech therapy. He has a lot of echolalia, high level receptive language and productive high considering how late he started. But he sticks to one or two sentences unless corrected. The speech therapy is going really great in therapy, but he does not seem to transfer this good work from her office to real life. I have read a lot about aba and it seems very controversial and I don't know if we should do it. Also, since here in Kuwait (as I suppose everywhere) these services are so expensive, we are running out of money. So I really can't estimate whether we should quit the speech and search other therapy because it's been six months and I have not seen progress outside the therapist's office, where he is doing excellent. PLease advise.

I think he is progressing in more expressing his feelings then more being so verbal so he is less aggressive because he can express himself a little more about how he feels. I am trying to get him potty trained and to brush his teeth which is so hard. He does have a low level of lead because he likes putting things in his mouth the doctor told me to bring him in in 3 months to checkout his lead levels and to give him vitamins.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for coping with regression as an adult? 1999: 1 in 500
    2009: 1 in 88
    2019: 1 in 59
At this rate, in a few decades it will be 1 in 4

Vaccines have been proven to not cause autism. Increase diagnosis is due to more information n evaluations of children. In the past only "low functioning autism" was evaluated. Now more mild signs are known. Also, autism is linked to parental age, as older parents especially fathers have a higher chance of having children with autism. And people are having children at increasingly older ages compared to before. These have stronger evidence for the increase in diagnosis than vaccines.
