  • In this weeks video we take a look back at Goldeneye 007 in a retrospective review to see if the game has held up as good as we remember.
In the history of 007, in the history of bond games, nothing has ever been able to live up to Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, or N64 for you 90s cool cats.
When first person shooters were thought not to work on the console platform Goldeneye proved otherwise taking the James Bond 007 license and turning it into an FPS that would inspire and influence for decades to come.
Join me for this retrospective review of a legendary classic, Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64.
Goldeneye 007 was developed by RAREWARE and published by Nintendo, it is only available for the Nintendo 64 and whatever emulation software you prefer.

Hey everyone! Thank you for checking out this weeks video! The only reason this came about is because my brother found an N64 at a garage sale with a copy of Goldeneye for like $10, and so I figured "screw it, let's do a Goldeneye vid!" Its honestly been well over a decade since I've played this and this game and I gotta tell ya, Goldeneye whooped my ass, in a good way of course.
Remember if you enjoyed this video please hit that subscribe button and shoot me a like, it is a HUGE help for this channel.

Very nice review! It was shared on my Discord server and I checked it out.
I only want to say that about the controls, you didn't expand to all the options GoldenEye offers, being one of the most customizable games back in 97 even allowing you to use dual stick controls - although I don't recommend that, the 1.2 control scheme is the smoothest as you control your aim with the stick and move with the C buttons, super accurate and don't even need autoaim if you have a nice original controller.
And a small correction about XBLA, it wasn't canceled due to Nintendo Japan as they do not own any rights to Bond or GoldenEye, it was canceled simply because Rare/Microsoft had no permission to work with the Bond license, actor likeness, and doesn't follow the new MGM guidelines they applied after its success back in 97.
In other words, it's impossible to re-release this game, and Nintendo plays no role in that.
Again, very nice review! The XBLA thing is just a nitpick I have as it's a common misconception due to rumours.

See now that I've played through Goldeneye I really want to get my hands on Perfect Dark. That's a game I haven't played in over a decade.

I never get tired of watching Goldeneye reviews and 'history of's'. And in every video (and i've watched sooo many) there's always something new to learn. Like this video, I didn't know about the cancelled remake.

Not sure if you've kept up with the news, but it's downloadable and playable. From a fellow GoldenEye die hard to another, PLEASE do yourself a favor and play it. I felt like a kid again.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that Remaster to come out some day. The Perfect Dark Remaster was absolutely fantastic, and seeing that level of care put into Goldeneye would be ace.

I have to imagine someone behind the scenes is working to get it out there. I mean obviously a release like that would be very successful in this little "retro remaster" boom we're in. But also it's crazy to think a game that had as much impact as Goldeneye did is basically locked to the N64 and emulation.

They did make a remaster for the 360, but it could not be released due to the license agreement between Activision, Rare, and Nintendo.
      Only screenshots remain

Goldeneye Eye did get a 360 port but screenshots didn't just remain. The entire game was done and ported over. In fact, you can play it by modding your 360 and downloading it there. Even the multiplayer works. I know Kirk and @Eric are probably never going to bother with this comment but it's still good to inform anyone else who checks this out.

Goldeneye was our Saturday night multiplayer fix in our 20s. It was an absolute blast. I still preferred PC for solo FPS campaigns but split screen Goldeneye and then Perfect Dark later on was a joy.
We had so many hilarious moments: Me trying to hide with the flag in the bathroom stall in the facility but then noticing in my friend's view that the flag was sticking out of the closed stall door, one hit slappers, rocket duels at close range ("I'll take you all with me!" BOOM!), one hit kills and killing my friend with the grenade by hitting him in the face with it-and THEN it explodes! Fantastic times!

Switch the controls to "Solitaire 1.2" and then take your left and and place it on the far left handle of the controller, and place your right hand in the middle. The D pad now works for forward and backward movement as well as strafing, and the R hand controls looking and aiming as well as shooting. It's the closest thing to modern FPS controls. TRY IT.

It wasn't Nintendo that blocked the remaster of Goldeneye. It was MGM.

Okay so, I know the stun from shots in annoying but It also feels kinda genius. 1: It gives a much more intense feel to being shot compared to just "oh no my health go down" since it means your defense is limited to evasion until the stun is over, and 2 It feels so good when you run into a room with a bunch of dudes and use carefully paved shots to keep all of them stunned long enough to clear the whole room out. No other games but these Rare DPS gives me that feeling.

  • @winlover37
    @winlover37 Рік тому +1

Fun fact: In Bunker 2 you can get away with using the KF7 "quietly" if you single tap your shots. Due to an oversight in the AI they will only swarm your location if you obviously trip the alarm, or if they hear sustained fire from your KF7.

Goldeneye one of the best game out there for speedrunning. It's so old that everyone has played it to the point where anyone can remember the level layout and missions. Those controls are godlike when you know what you're doing. Nintendo was out of their mind when they let this game on their console, but man it hasn't been the same since

Can you please review Turk 1-3, and/or Winback Covert Operations? Winback has a weird glitch emulating n64 where a grey rectangle swims around the screen that I was never able to solve. But the PC version is probably better anyway. Same for Turok 1&2, except Turok 3 (my favourite) was n64 only.
By the way why does this video have so few views/likes?

The thing that Nintendo Japan stopped it is a common misconception due to rumours, the reason is that Rare had no rights to work with James Bond's IP or likeness. Nintendo does not own any rights to GoldenEye nor Bond either.

The evolution was a long hard road: throwing poop, throwing ourselves at enemies or predators, throwing food and sticks or dropping branches, throwing rocks( blunt then sharpened). Slings for your rocks next. Then came throwing bee and hornet hives, small spears, then real long spears. Then came early arrows that went through thousands of years of iterations, blow darts ( eventually with poison), later bow and arrow concepts in recent centuries, early repeater "bow dart" weapons, bolas, short spear throwers, greek fire "shooters", early "grenades", early proto "Canon" and firework launchers followed centuries later and eventually crossbows. Then came more "advanced" smaller canon type weapons, then more portable ones that were much smaller and the early "guns", followed by the actualy arquebusses and blunderbusses later on. Then early ship canons to bigger ones, guns got better though still single shot with black powder roughly 400 years ago, to the flintlocks, and pistols, rifles, shotguns over the last 200 years that then lead to semi and full auto machine guns or larder caliber and ammo capacity. Then GOLDENEYE! And in roughly the same 20 years span before and afterwards early laser, rail gun, microwave and sonic tech which is still being experimented on today, but is supposed to be banned by the Geneva convention against cruel and over powerful weaponry. And finally the scathing troll meme! The deadliest weapon of all! GREAT VID! lol Sorry for going on with my nonsese. Its cause I like your channel :P

Gonna do a video for Perfect Dark? The Remaster on Xbox 360, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X is great. Honestly, Perfect Dark is better than Goldeneye 64, but I did enjoy both.
Really bums me out that Nintendo torpedoed the awesome Goldeneye 64 Remaster by Microsoft.

I F'IN loved that game and the multiplayer was sooo BOMBBB!! I had so much fun, I did like Perfect dark better because of the more in depth multiplayer and the addition of bots and it was soo customizable. But even in PD the classic levels were some of the best!!

I still remember the time one of my friends decided to fire a rocket off when everybody was in close quarters on the Complex map and killed us all, and got the first quad kill award any of us ever saw. I didn't get to play with 4 players very often, so I think that's the only time I ever saw it happen.
I tried to play it again about 7 or 8 years ago, and it was rough. I still had some fun with it, but it's definitely not a game that's aged well. I do like some of the cheats you can unlock that still make the game fun, and I wish modern games still did that. The Uncharted series is the only one I've played in several years that has anything quite like it.
Goldeneye is at least partly the reason I'm a James Bond fan today. I probably would've gotten into Bond anyway, as I like a lot of spy fiction, but Goldeneye sped the process up.

When this game came out I was impressed with the graphics but I wasnt a fan of the control scheme! After a short time I loved the controls me and my buddy beat this game and moved on to torok! When the duel sticks came out it was over well after you got use to it! Come on Nintendo we need the 64 mini!
