Great video and approach!! I’ve been Ez drummer 2 for about a year now and this was a whole new approach for me. Thanks !!!!
That’s awesome!! It’s taken me years for this idea to really become second nature. In the early days - I’d use this technique and my sounds would be great and then somehow totally forget to do it the next go round.
Big shout out to Bobby Huff’s channel - he does a lot of amazing breakdowns on the lengths that other producers have went to to shape their sounds. He’s covered this kind of stuff before too - so be sure to check his channel out if you liked this stuff! Cheers mate.
Thanks ...i must try
Thanks for sharing. I love it
Yeah mate! Of course! Cheers!
Great Job Bro!!
Thanks brotha! Hopefully it made sense throughout the video - the concept of of using sounds to blend.
If you haven’t checked out Bobby Huff’s channel, certainly give it a go. He has a ton of examples of pro’s blending the sounds like this.
Great guy and great channel!
Great video man! I've used Ez drummer for years now for writing as I'm so used to it. I'll use Trigger after the fact to pull in what samples I want after I have my basic grooves.
That’s awesome man! Thanks for watching brotha!
Cool tips
I wish you could multi out from instruments within Luna, it would really help with layering drums. Great video, great channel - thanks!
I just add more vsti’s now.. not even a problem 😂🤣
Great seeing you in Puckett’s last night. Great channel you have created!
Total legend! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi! Great to meet you!
Thank U mabradah ...
sick video
It’s funny - I remember I found out a long time ago, how big industry people had been supplementing their drum sounds with samples - but took years for it to really sync in 😂.. I always had kept forgetting about the technique while I learned the fundamentals.
It’s super handy!
Cheers dude!
Great video!! Do you have a video on EZ Drummer and how to get those good hard rock and metal tones?
Nothing specific on drum tones, a lot of my videos are more on the technical side of using the software, and little tricks, and stuff here.
I try to stay out of “get xyz tone” because that implies there’s a right way and a wrong way to get to a tone. So the topic becomes hard to fairly discuss.
Ez has a number of great expansions on metal - and I’d likely augment them with the same approach as in this video.
Cheers mate!
Hey brotha great video love it....I tested the ezdrummer and it great....cheers brotha
Tim! You the man! Thanks for swinging by, cheers mate!
Hey brotha….what’s up I want to know how can we mix and song loud and export it without clipping
I had this question since when I started music production….I will love to learn from you. Cheers brotha….
@@timdaniel7745 this is hard for many...
It’s a combination of having good arrangements, good sounds while tracking, good mixing and balance, bus compression, saturation, & good limiting.
No major shortcuts or secrets. Although - a lot of the heavy lifting is in saturation & limiting.
Which is why Luna rules because the saturation with the summing extensions are super musical. And sound awesome!
@@TheSteveKinney hey brotha say your guitar amp video it’s amazing but I do not know to play a guitar
I couldn’t comment In that video it’s not working so I trying in to comment in this video I have sent a audio file tried to mix my self came out good except the loudness please do check out and I couldn’t find your insta I D please do check…
Cheers brotha…
@@timdaniel7745 insta should be at my website - insta is @thestevekinney
Thank you Steve. I just started with ez drummer 3. As a professional drummer l know how much time and money you need to spend if you want to have good studio with acoustic drums. I think Toontrack is game changer now about drums.
They have been! Their stuff has been amazing for years now.
Truly - we’ve hit the turning point with samples. No real need to mic up kits.
Maybe dub some cymbals and spend time getting good cymbal Samples.
And also mic up a hi hat. But shell passes with ez for sure!
Nice. Your most views are in your vocal plugins 👍🏼👍🏼 waiting on some more UAD plugins for mixing demos. I know how to get my demos sounding pretty rad, but what do you use for your quick jot down demos?
Plenty more to come - truthfully, I don't like to demo as I don't spend time writing my own stuff anymore, usually people come to me with ready to produce material or ready to mix... however, when I do like to build out stuff for fun, I usually will just act as if I'm building it for radio... unless it's just in the moment to where I need to save the idea - then I usually don't care what sound I have, cause it's just simply for me to remember - as long as I can remember it - that's good enough for me.
Cheers mate!
Nice tip. I’ve been doing this with automation, but this seems to be quicker and opens the possibility of changing drum samples fast. Liked and subbed 🙏
Cheers mate! Appreciate ya!
Great video again ....
Wish to buy apollo but too expensive 😁
What about Antelope Zengo compare to Apollo solo?
Thanks for the support!
I haven’t used an antelope and the software plugins are proprietary like UAD - so I haven’t used or heard them!
From everything I’ve seen - it’s a solid interface! I don’t think their client support is as good as UA. Those guys are all over the web supporting their clients.
I’d also be willing to bet the UAD plugs certainly sound better. But again the meat and potatoes of the interface are gonna be a solid alternative.
Cheers!
@@TheSteveKinney thank you much👍
Great idea👏👏👏
Do you add just a kick drum and a snare drum at additional level?
Depends on my goal with the samples. Sometimes it’s a layer of three sounds. Blended to taste.
@@TheSteveKinney thank you mate👍
What is the ez drummer kit you are using as your base kit before samples are added? It sounds class. Great video
I use a ton of post rock and the indie rock kit.
And then I use some of hard rock - the one that’s basically nickelbacks sound.
Totally my favorite. The new gospel one is absolutely incredible.
And you can bet your ass I’m getting ez drummer 3 - day. Of. Release.
Cheers!
Is it best to have all percussive tracks to be mono without reverb then modify the tracks using various plug-ins?
I mean. Pretty much most of the time. Yeah.
Kind of in an “as needed” basis for stereo processing. For example - side chaining - bus compression etc.
Hi Steve. How do you get Luna to recognize Ezdrummer? For some reason it's not in my instrument menu.
Should be straight forward.
Add new instrument track and scroll through the list at the bottom will be non UA instruments.
@@TheSteveKinney thanks. I tried again and figured it out - you have to have it set as a stereo channel or it won't show up. Thanks as always.
@@jayl5941 AH! That’s tricky. I would have never thought of that.
Sean Kinney's technical cousin.
Hashtag trashtag
I'll donate if you pronounce the two t's in "button".
Well. At least it’s for A good cause. Ha
I like EZ Drummer but it annoys me that I can't separate the toms!
Ahhhh. You could totally separate them out. It requires getting creative though.
Mute the other toms midi. Bounce to wav.
Mute the exported toms midi. Bounce to wav.
Mute both toms midi. Boom.
Cheers!
Steve Kinney yes but it's a real pain in the butt. Even the very simple and free MT
Powerdrummer allows for separation of all the drums to different tracks!
@@officialWWM Get Superior Drummer 3 if you want more control, it takes this to the next level.
Eirik Hasselberg yes, maybe I'll take a look at it. It's a lot more expensive though :/
@@officialWWM It cost a little bit, but... It cost about the same as one full price UAD plug-in. And the options at hand are endless. You can even take a crappy drum recording done with a single room mic, drag it into the program, extract the midi, quantize and replace all sounds with recordings from the legendary George Massenburg. Or get a cheap e-kit and get going. And you can do entire mixes with several drum buses, effects and what not inside the program that can be run as a stand alone without a DAW. For what you get I do not think the cost is high at all, even though it can seem expensive at first glance.
