This was a great watch! I tend to layer in samples to my kit as well for recordings. But for drum covers and social media, this works really well. Would love to get the kit to sound fuller without samples!
Check out my Instagram for plenty of examples. I never use samples. hahahaha YES! Brandon is a great dude. It was a blast working with him earlier this summer. And thanks so much for the high praise. You the man, Jace!!
I totally agree. You gotta balance it between the different musical elements in an arrangement, but if a final mix is soft in mids, it just doesn’t feel right to me!
@@timbofromkenoAbsolutely! I used to manage the SW store here in town for many years... too many years.... But anytime another drummer would come in the store, it was an instant bromance 😂. I can talk with other drummers all day! Gear, influences, practice tips, on and on. 😁
You should have tried to match the EQ settings between the stock and waves plugins to better show the difference. Also, in your own mixes, do you actually rely mostly on presets? Or do you EQ and compress manually?
The EQ settings were similar, but the compression settings (and other shaping features on the CLA plugin) are difficult to match. I could've better matched the overall output of the Logic plugins mix and the Waves plugin mix, but I also think the loudest that comes with those paid plugins has more character than the utilitarian sound of the Logic compressors and limiters. Regarding presets, I certainly start with presets very often (especially in an unfamiliar room with an unfamiliar setup). It just gets me up to speed quickly without wasting time. But when I get into the details, I dial in sounds further by modifying each plugin's settings for sure.
