The Flute does more than just drain the water to enter the seventh dungeon. It allows you to warp to any dungeon you have completed and it weakens digdogger.
Along with clearing that body of water, the recorder item is used in some dungeons. well he not really "modeling" everything he's get the 3D models online and sometime slightly alters them with a few exceptions (Edit: I made this comment over a year ago and I've realized since then that I was wrong, my confusion came from when he would take models from online in other videos and the fact that he's not really modeling but rather using voxel, which is practically 3D pixel art. To anyone who continues to reply to this comment, I will not respond, as you're "beating on a dead horse".)
the whistle does 3 main things . It opens a dungeon, it makes digdogger easier to kill and it summons a whirlwind that pick up link In single frame of fire and warps him to different dungeons based on what direction link faces when at a dungeon entrance. There is a fourth sword model . If you have the wooden sword when you get the red bracelet, it's palate changes. Cool idea over all
You did more for Zelda's 35th anniversary than Nintendo did for it's own franchise. Edit: You still did more for Zelda's 35th Annivarsary this year after watching the Nintendo Direct! Good god Nintendo! Show some love to your other franchises other than Mario when it's their turn for christ's sake.
The flute is used to weaken the Pol's Voice Enemy and to summon a whirlwind that takes you to any dungeon entrance that you have already conquered. Excellent Job! I can't believe how close you are to completing the full game.
Now we need duck hunt. edit: Cody is the only doing stuff for legend of Zelda’s 35 anniversary because Nintendo decided to neglect it. edit 2: thanks for 80 likes
This is so charming, even though I never played Zelda, maybe it’s about the choppy animation that only has 3 frames, he should really do a full playthrough of this game
The flute, or as it's called in the game, the recorder, actually has another purpose. Aside from revealing the entrance to level 7, it can also warp link to different previously completed dungeons.
Heh seeing Mario like that just makes me immediately think of the excellent and often overlooked "Super Paper Mario" on Nintendo Wii. Instead of a turn based RPG it was an action RPG that played like a side scroller "Metroidvania". The unique gimmick of the game is being able to "flip" from 2d side scrolling to a sort of 3d perspective. This made for some truly great creative gameplay. I absolutely love that game and i wish more ppl were aware of it.
The amount of attention to detail and the completeness of this project is nothing short of amazing. You rebuilt an entire game years ago it took an entire team to do. Great work and highly entertaining watch down memory lane. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
@@CodyCantEatThis im sure u were already told by someone. the recorder(flute) allows link to quick travel via tornado to a dungeon he has already beaten. and there is a mathematical equation to one of the 4 facings when u use it. it also shrinks the giant eye boss in a dungeon. as a huge zelda fan, this is kick ass!! i was hyped when nintendo did the 3ds remake of a few titles of zelda. absolute joy that i had from watching your video. keep up the great work.
This is an excellent remake into 3D, staying very true to the original. I'd suggest you also make a realistic version too. For example, make the trees look like real trees, but don't clone them over and over. Make each tree look different, maybe by rotating each tree 90 degrees on its vertical axis. The cycle will repeat every 4th tree, but I doubt anyone will notice. And make barriers taller so we can't see over to another area. I tried to turn the map view of Zelda 2 into something realistic 10 years ago, but my computer couldn't handle it. Each block was a very large space so a whole village would still occupy only 1 block. And I wasn't going to use the same enemy encounter as the map world, they'd become rendered as I approached like GTA.
You've probably been told this before, but a lot of these levels are already drawn out via tile maps. I highly recommend creating a level parser to read the tile maps so that you can save a lot of unnecessary ctrl+c & ctrl+v work, as well as free up time to allow you to focus on the fun stuff like AI and boss behavior. As a fun bonus side effect, it will also open up the path to allowing users to see their own custom maps generated in your game!
@Holden Mcgroine We are talking about different things now. Any company can claim ownership and take legal action out of 'mere resemblance' if they own the IP rights. And YES, if game companies really wanted to they could force take downs on Twitch as well (obviously this would be a REALLY bad idea for business, but it's technically a legal right). What I am talking about is just parsing levels from 2D data. With a proper parser he doesn't need to copy and paste things repeatedly (like he explained he was already doing in the video). This would also allow him to easily 'reskin' his models and maintain level layouts without having to re-work as much.
Or put it on a flash card and accidentally dropped it while out and someone randomly found it. Like, accidentally dropped it on a friend, who later accidentally dropped it on their friend, and some 6 friends later that person accidentally drops the card in to a computer and the files just accidentally drops themself in to something like, I don't know, a torrent, maybe, and on many different torrent site with very many torrent trackers on it and then it's just out there, accidentally.
Include an unlisted video with "random" torrent links in the comments to people who donate 10 bucks because they like his sense of humor. Also u can freeze the comments section if "totally not your alt accounts" keep posting torrent links to your awesome games.
He could publish it for free, but he is probably just being careful. Even though it's an old property Nintendo could argue he is making money from their property and that's all that matters.
It is, indeed impressive... However, he uses tools that aren't useful in actual game design. Super Voxel World is way to limited, so those skills won't translate into job experience.
HOLY, SANTA CLAUS BALLZ...! Now if we could just get someone to make a new console that will play all these homebrews and remakes.. Like an actual gaming system. Fantastic job on this reimagining of an ole classic.
This is the coolest rendition of Zelda 1 ever! I have a suggestion though, could you perhaps add some towering peaks to the Death mountain range to add to the environment. It will also look similar to the start-up screen and the concept art.
*Fun fact:* The _Legend of Zelda_ was inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's "explorations" as a young boy in the hillsides, forests, and caves surrounding his childhood home in Sonobe, Japan where he ventured into forests with secluded lakes, caves, and rural villages.
The "bit trip" track that plays in these videos is driving me nuts, because that main melody is taken from something and I can't place what it is, except something that burned into my head when I was younger.
At least i think it's bit shift, based on the list of another video, but it played again at the end of this one so now I'm not sure the tracks are listed in order. Anyway it plays twice in this video and is playing at the very end.
I’ve been waiting for this and boy. I would sell my soul to play this rendition of this game. It’s unfortunate that you can’t release it because I would buy it in a heartbeat. But still, it looks amazing! And you know, I think I might try doing some of my own voxel art. It probably won’t be any good but I bet it will be fun.
Something just like this was made back in 2016 known as the zelda 30 year tribute, and it was playable up until the first or second dungeon or something. Unfortunately it was taken down by Nintendo, as usual.
NES Zelda works so well in this kind of 3D! You did such a great job creating this! I know you might not be able to release this, but do you think Nintendo would accept this if you were to approach them with it? Lots of Zelda fans would love a 3D pixelated version and you've already done so much of the work that Nintendo would be silly to pass it up.
I find the Japanese game studios tend to be very insular and if the idea doesn't come from in house from a senior designer they aren't interested. Personally Zelda and Mario franchises for me are always very safe games for existing demographics and as a result never really entice me to play them. The latest Pokemon game is a good example. Having said that this is a very loving remake of this game and I agree it would be awesome to see something like this get released in the Nintendo arcade on Switch
Isn't this in the realm of an emulated game that's been massively changed from the original? like the black edition of Mario Kart back in the day... Hard to monetize, but certainly enjoyable to the masses... release it on a pen name? Either way, thanks for the video.
This brings me back so many memories !!! I was 6 years old when I played Zelda snd loved it !!! If you were my son and had showed me that you made this, I would had giving you anything for two simple reasons ! The first one is essy because you re-created a masterpiece so I would be so impressed and proud ! The second reason is because you would had touched my childhood memories which is very hard to re-remember this vividly !!! Thank you for this young man !!!
That's why I canceled my complete conversion mod of NWN1 into Zelda 1 many years ago. After spending hundreds of hours writing custom scripting to get NWN enemies to behave like a retro 8 bit game, I realized that it was just going to get removed from the NWN vault anyways if I uploaded it.
Anti-Consumer is not the right term. I get what you meant, but branding is everything to corporations. They LOVE Consumers, they hate COMPETITORS. its legal distinction, but that's how they have to look at it. Anything hsing their IP must be given attention, and or action. The best way to avoid this is by researching and using the right ways to communicate your fan work/art online. Creative Commons is a good start and searching fair use laws and parody laws will help also. CYA - cover your @$$. peace
It's amazing that I know stuff that you don't know how to do, and you did stuff that I don't know how to do. Like I don't know how to use Unity, or how to artistically create the voxel renditions of everything. But then you did weird stuff like copying and pasting every bush by hand, rather than writing a program to extract the bush information for you. I would have approached it a way less labor intensive way. But I also would have given up early or quit before I started. Great job btw!
Anyone can learn to program, all you have to do is think logically, and learn the programming language. In the programming language of C, declaring a variable (a thing that stores a number) is as simple as “int a = 5;”. This basically means: Integer (int/number) “a” is now the value 5. Programming was made to be as easy as possible, if it was as hard as you think it is, your average joe wouldn’t even be able to learn it (because they would think that it’s impossible). So try programming, and try to learn it with confidence.
Every video project you make is so entertaining and inspiring! I'm not even super into nostalgia and remakes, but your takes on old games are refreshing and fun to look at on a game-dev perspective. Great job!
Actually the flute also has the cool mechanic of making a tornado take Link to the entrance of one of the dungeons he's already done, besides draining the water at Level 7 entrance

the whistle does 3 main things .

The flute has another purpose as well-it generates a tornado on the overworld that quick-warps you to dungeon entrances.
The flute is used to weaken the Pol's Voice Enemy and to summon a whirlwind that takes you to any dungeon entrance that you have already conquered. Excellent Job! I can't believe how close you are to completing the full game.

35 years later, and the game they were trying to make back then has finally been created by some guy on he internet.

Oh no that would be a terrible accident. Let's hope this never happens.
Or oh no my google drive was hacked with all the files and uploaded
Include an unlisted video with "random" torrent links in the comments to people who donate 10 bucks because they like his sense of humor.
Also u can freeze the comments section if "totally not your alt accounts" keep posting torrent links to your awesome games.
He could publish it for free, but he is probably just being careful. Even though it's an old property Nintendo could argue he is making money from their property and that's all that matters.

NES Zelda works so well in this kind of 3D! You did such a great job creating this! I know you might not be able to release this, but do you think Nintendo would accept this if you were to approach them with it? Lots of Zelda fans would love a 3D pixelated version and you've already done so much of the work that Nintendo would be silly to pass it up.
if the past is any indication, Nintendo is silly so they might just send a cease and desist letter
Nintendo keeps their characters to themselves.
I wouldn't be surprised if the game didn't get accepted.
It's just a low chance.
You clearly overestimate Nintendo
Isn't this in the realm of an emulated game that's been massively changed from the original? like the black edition of Mario Kart back in the day... Hard to monetize, but certainly enjoyable to the masses... release it on a pen name? Either way, thanks for the video.
